Teaching requirements analysis REET 2014 at RE2014Luisa Mich
Teaching requirements analysis to computer science and information system students raises a number of challenges. One of the most critical is the gap between skills needed to deal with software requirements and those necessary to grasp the business problems. To bridge that gap in teaching requirements analysis students would have to carry out an assignment of analyzing requirements for a non-trivial, term-sized project. Here we analyze the gap and propose a framework for student projects which integrates a model of the computer based system as a solution to business challenges into a template for a business requirements document. The first model comes from information systems literature and the second from an object oriented analysis approach for business analysis. A CASE (computer aided software engineering) tool to support UML (unified modeling language) modeling is also used and we give some guidelines to reduce risks of premature requirements modeling due to students’ tendency to start modeling, even if business analysis and requirements elicitation have just started. The proposed framework has been defined in many years of teaching and allowed to overcome some of the limitations of a traditional UML-focused course. Student projects of different academic terms – in different courses and different degrees – showed improved requirements models and better comprehension of the role of requirements in the later terms. Moreover, the students appeared to have greater interest and motivation towards this area of software engineering.

Thank you for agreeing to be a mentor for a College student..docxtodd191
Thank you for agreeing to be a mentor for a College student. Our professionally-focused academic programs count on professionals such as yourself to help guide and open our students up to incredibly valuable real-world experiences. This guide was created to help you understand baseline expectations of being a mentor, and to provide specific contact information should you have any questions.
Baseline Expectations of Mentorship
You are being asked to work with a student in a professional setting that you are familiar with, and help them: 1) gain valuable real-world experience in an area of their choosing, and 2) help the student successfully reach a set of predefined Essential Learning Competencies, or learning goals. The student approaching you is enrolled in the course MGMT-470: Business Management Capstone which is the final course in the B.S. in Business Management degree program at College. This is their culminating academic experience and for most, their last course before graduation. We’re asking students to utilize their learning in the program and prior experiences to develop a capstone project that proves their competence in at least five of the aforementioned essential business competency areas.
The Learning Contract
These essential competencies are defined in a Learning Contract the student will fill out with your help. By the time the student approaches you s/he will have anywhere from 4-6 weeks to complete their fieldwork experience in-full. The final product of their fieldwork experience is a written capstone paper which will detail their experience, learning, and competence.
First, the student should have approached you with an initial idea they are interested in, and that you are familiar with. This idea may be a bit vague at first but, together, you can work to hone-down the idea into an actionable plan. There are a series of steps we are asking you to take with the student over the next few weeks, and to also sign a Learning Contract with the student (which will be provided).
Second, In the Learning Contract you will clearly identify the following (the Learning Contract has a pre-filled example if you need some clarity):
1. The five Essential Competencies the student wishes to focus on (the complete list and explanation of each competency will be provided to you);
2. The Learning Objectives to reach those competencies (what, specifically, the student wants [and needs] to learn);
3. The Strategies and Resources required to meet the learning objectives (how, specifically, the student will learn? What will they be doing?);
4. The Evidence to be presented as proof of their learning (how will they demonstrate that they’ve learned?); and
5. The Criteria for Evaluation and means of validating their learning (how will the student’s performance be evaluated?)
Third, please know that strategies and resources really come down to identifying a set of tasks and/or actions that you (or someone you appoint) can walk the stud.

MBA Capstone Project Guidelines
Throughout your MBA program, you have worked to develop as a practitioner-scholar to meet the needs and future challenges as a business leader. Your program culminates in the capstone project, which forms the primary focus of MBA6900, the final course you will take in the program. The capstone project is intended to provide you the opportunity to demonstrate your MBA program outcomes by:
· Planning and executing the strategic and tactical elements of a comprehensive project.
· Integrating and demonstrating skills and techniques you have learned throughout the MBA program.
· Communicating project outcomes both in written form and in a formal presentation.
· Completing your MBA program with an experience that reinforces and integrates the components that have preceded it.
The following information outlines the requirements and work associated with the capstone project for MBA6028 and MBA6900.
Capstone Project Examples
Examples of project types that might be proposed to meet these requirements include but are not limited to:
· Preparation of a strategic plan for an organization.
· A strategic analysis of all or a selected part of an organization.
· Development of a case study of all or a selected part of an organization.
· Development of an intervention, such as a workshop or training activity, that is broad- based enough to demonstrate the program-level outcomes.
· Development of a consulting report on a problematic issue within an organization, provided that the issue is broad-based enough to demonstrate program-level outcomes.
You may propose other structures for the capstone project so long as you are able to identify how the proposed project satisfies the requirement of demonstrating the program-level outcomes. When choosing your topic, keep in mind that your capstone project must result in recommendations, next steps, or some other type of actionable, evidence-based take-aways for the reader or subject of the project.
Capstone Project Requirements
The capstone course project must demonstrate your achievement of the MBA program outcomes. The following table is taken from the proficient column of the final capstone grading rubric. It outlines the expectations for demonstrating each program outcome.
Program Outcome:

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Project Guidelines for Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration
1. Understanding the significance of a Project Report
Many learners underestimate the significance of a project report and make a mistake of thinking
that excellent marks can be scored by simply producing a good lay-out.
This is fundamentally not the case as many projects are graded well below their potential because
of an indifferent or poor write-up. In order to acquire the right balance, a learner should consider
the aim behind making a good project.
It provides the opportunity for a learner to demonstrate independence and originality, to plan and
organize the project work, and to put into practice some of the techniques a learner has been taught
throughout the program.
2. Meaning of a Project
A project can be defined as a temporary endeavour undertaken to achieve a particular aim or it is a
study of factual information for comprehending and applying the various concepts of the course
into practice. In simple words, a project can be understood as mentioned under:
• It is a practice of verification or demonstration of concepts or hypotheses or processes
learnt.
• It is also a technique of self-learning, learning by doing. It has a practical value.
• The purpose of project is not to generalize but to study the situation with a practical
orientation.
3. Application of Research Methodology to Project Work
SCDL allows learners to take up any topic of their interest and choice for project work.
However, learners should bear in mind that project topic should be relevant in their area of specialization.
For example, the learners of PGDBA (Marketing) should carry out their project work only in the functional
areas of Marketing. Although an illustrative list of the topics is being given at the end in order to give an
idea about project topics or titles of the project, learners are nevertheless advised not to restrict themselves
2. EV-GL-01
only to the topics specified. If the learner submits a project which is not relevant to his/her specialization,
then the project will not be evaluated and the learner will be treated as fail. SCDL gives the liberty to the
student to choose any topic relevant to a learner’s specialization.
Steps in Research Process are as follows:
• Defining the problem and Project Objectives
• Designing Project Plan
• Collecting Data
• Analysis of Data
• Interpretation and reporting the findings
4. Project Guide
Projects can be guided by any Post Graduate degree holder with / without a Doctorate Degree working in an
academic institution (preferably teaching MBA / Management course) or a person working in the
managerial cadre in any industrial / business / IT organization. Learners must take advice and suggestions
from their guides from time to time.
5. Technical specifications of the project report
• Paper: A4 size Bond Paper only (11"x 8.5")

6. Instructions for the preparation of hard copy of the project report
• The title of the project-report should not be the same as the objectives, as there can be more
than one objective for a particular study.
• Each objective will have at least one or more findings and suggestions.
• Each objective must have relevant questions in the questionnaire and/or interview schedule.
• Learner must ensure adequate coverage of the topic in general and objectives in particular.
• Coloured figures/diagrams/graphs/tables will add value to the presentation of the report.
• Every table and diagrammatic representation should have a serial number and a caption.
3. EV-GL-01
