ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND SALUTATION
On behalf of the whole Shalom family in Uganda, I warmly greet all our
friends and partners, the churches, and especially the children’s sponsors.
We thank God for all that He has provided for the running of Shalom. We
are grateful to all stake holders for their continued support since the start
of the year.
PRIORITIES & OBJECTIVES
Our priorities are unchanged. There are:
1. To ensure all our children are properly fed, clothed, healthy, educated
and following Jesus.
2. To hold a parents’ workshop
3. To visit all the foster families in the community
4. To visit all our children’s schools and churches
5. To work at growing crops on the new land

ACHIEVEMENTS / SUCCESSES
Education
We thank all sponsors for their faithful giving. We do not take this for granted;
we know that the recession is hard on you too. Yet we were able to pay all
school fees on time. Shalom children mostly did well academically. The school
reports are encouraging, not just the marks, but the teachers’ comments about
positive attitude and discipline of our children.
Church / Spiritual growth
We also continue to receive positive reports from the pastors of the churches
that our children attend. Both Shalom House residents and those living in the
community normally attend church each week. The older ones get involved in
church programs such as leading groups in worship and prayer, and the little
ones attend Sunday school. This includes the children from Muslim families. Our
Social Workers have been encouraging these children to look to Jesus as their
caretaker and provider. Their families too are being touched by the Gospel which
enables their children’s faith to grow. During our schools’ visits we make sure
the staff know that Shalom is a Christian charity. These actions have resulted an
all-round increase in trusting Jesus, and as a result of this exam marks have
improved. Many of the children give testimony of Jesus helping them through
their studies.
Health
We praise God that in the last five months we have not experienced any serious
illness amongst the beneficiaries. Supplying mosquito nets to every child has
greatly reduced the number of cases of malaria.
Fostering and family visits
The social work team has been very vigorous in visiting the new foster families in
their homes, having meetings with the children, their families, and their pastors.
We have seen the newly placed children adapt well to their new community
environment, and all placed children are responding well.

Parent’s workshop
The parenting seminar this year was a success. The core attendees were
caretakers of fifteen of our children, and some staff and some older children also
attended. This instruction has been seen to have been put into practice, and the
caretakers are handling their children diligently in a Godly and a properly
parental manner.
Cultivation on the new land
In the last school holiday, both staff and children engaged in agricultural work,
planting vegetables, maize and beans. This helps the children to develop
farming skills and their mostly show interest and aptitude.
After several thefts from the land we have hired a security caretaker by the
name of David Byekwaso. He will ensure general safety. His wages are
100,000/= (about £30pm). We have covered this locally so far but now we will
need someone to sponsor him.
General Welfare.
Because we have prioritised food and education, a serious need has developed
for new shoes for all the children, and new bedding for the Shalom House
residents.
We have been good stewards, having shoes repaired again and again but
children are hard on shoes and they desperately need new ones. In the same
way, the last time we replaced any mattress covers, sheets and blankets was

January 2011. We have repaired these many times, but now they urgently need
replacing. However the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas boxes which arrived on the
18th May made the children smile:
CHALLENGES
We trust God for everything, bringing our needs before Him each Monday during
our team devotions, and also as needs arise.
We have used every technique to manage within what we are given, postponing
this, making do with that, but the truth is that we are very short of funds to
carry on the mission.
The kitchen stove which enabled us to save on charcoal has broken down and we
cannot afford to have it repaired. And when Juliet comes to the UK she visits
schools and churches and brings in valuable funding, both one-off and regular.
But her air fares and visa costs still have to be paid.
CONCLUSION
We couldn’t have achieved what you have just read about without God’s gracious
provision.
Nor could we have done it without you, our partners. On behalf of the team here
and the children of Shalom we thank the UK volunteers of Project Shalom, and
your churches, the Church of the Living God, Farnham Common Church, and MCF
Community Church.
Well done, it is a good work that you do.
Until September when I will write again, may God
richly bless you all.
