With lots of research and the same forecasts the big retailers use, our team designs promotional products that reflect what you'll be seeing in stores, on the street and when you're shopping online. Here's a peek behind the curtain so you can see the 5 key trends that inspired our new products.
We’ve collected a whole year of Mindshare "Point of View" articles to give you a complete picture of how the industry has evolved in 2017. All POVs are written in the moment and were correct at the time of writing. Things change fast in this industry, so we’ve also given you some trends to look out for in 2018 that we think will matter to your business.
In our ninth annual report, we see how consumers are both welcoming and resisting technology's growing omnipresence in our lives. For many, technology serves as a gateway to opportunity and an enabler of hyper-efficient lifestyles, but those who are most immersed are starting to question its effect on their lives and their privacy. One result is that more people are trying to find a balance and lead more mindful, in-the-moment lives.
Our forecast also puts a spotlight on the growth of immersive experiences; the accelerating shift to a visual vocabulary; the new appeal of imperfection; and the rise of telepathic technology, which will enable brands to better understand minds and moods and react in a very personalized way.
The full report-in which we cover each trend in detail, highlighting what's driving the shift, how it's manifesting and what it means for brands-is available at www.jwtintelligence.com

The Future 100 - trends and change to watch in 2016; cultural shifts that affect businesses and consumers alike, by the J. Walter Thompson Intelligence.
For 2018, we’ve selected cultural shifts in our 2018 Trends Brief that will emerge or continue to shape our behaviors, capture our aspirations and impact industries across culture.
These trends represent some of the most important influences in the coming year ahead. Our research took us on a roller-coaster journey where polarization, accelerating technological advancement, and evolving social norms constantly intersect to play an outsized role in the year ahead.
In a world where our perceptions of reality are challenged with the blurring of truth and fake, trends such as Truth Labs have far-reaching impact across culture. The walls that withhold biases and discrimination are more visible than ever, intensifying polarization, filter bubbles and creating tensions as we adjust to evolving social norms, such as with the trends of Detoxing Masculinity and the 67% Movement.
A polarized world is also fueling a desire to better understand ourselves, as we seek to quantify the very essence of humanity. This is seen in trends such as Stunt Math, Mind Rights and Armour Therapy.

With a booming global population that has an insatiable appetite for new fashion styles, the fashion industry is under pressure to deliver at speed, but it doesn't have to be at the expense of our natural environment.
“How about the insanity of a business model that chooses to put out monthly collections and then monthly 70% off sales? What other industry is doing that?” says Adam Derry, creative director of Ekocycle for Will.i.am and the Coca-Cola Company.
This will be the year of digitally – driven transformation – with a twist. New checks and balances will come into play to reign in the runaway train as we hurtle towards a new era in marketing, media and corporate reputation.
It will be the year marketers get real with AI – and get to grips with Blockchain. New rules of engagement will put the brakes on the fakes. Government will lead a Tech Lash against the power of new Net States. Digital media models will merge in the social space, and store managers will morph into marketing managers in the retail space. Increasingly political brands will champion social change, emboldened by consumers who, disillusioned with government, look to stand with brands that stand for something instead.
In 2018, change is the only certainty. Standing still is not an option. This is what to expect.
22 years: the average age of Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. 22 years of growth frenzy, combined with the upheaval brought about by the Internet to our businesses, our lives and our civilization.
With over 300 billion euros in cumulative revenue, a productivity rate three times the average, and a customer base covering nearly 50% of the connected population, GAFA have become, in less than twenty years, the four superpowers of the new economy. "Search engine","e-commerce", "smartphone","social network" are the common nouns they have added to the of the 21st century dictionary.
But beyond this disruption in our daily habits, GAFA have fundamentally changed the established rules of business strategy: they ignore classic concepts of market, competition, positioning or plain goods. Instead, they have achieved a Copernican revolution that truly places the customer at the center of their strategy.
With our study you will:
- identify the key success factors of these fantastic four,
- understand how to conduct your business strategy in the era of GAFA,
- develop a dashboard to measure and to start thinking about your business the GAFA way, by simply starting from your customers.
“GAFAnomics” will help you see your industry through GAFA's eyes: understand their vision of the world and align this analysis with your strategic actions - at a digital pace.
The "GAFA Framework"
To achieve this, we completed our analysis with a framework, a simplified reading grid of their business models and value creation levers. We are convinced that the best key to your digital transformation is understanding and applying this “GAFA framework".
This framework can be replicated in any industry: in the customer value creation field, every business can compare itself to GAFA. Our framework shows the necessity to organize and grow around the unwavering ambition to make a positive change to the customer’s daily life.

Gerry McGovern - Earth Experience Design (Camp Digital 2022)Nexer Digital
Gerry McGovern is the author of World Wide Waste, and an expert on sustainability and digital.
In his keynote 'Earth experience design' Gerry talks about digital as a world of short-term thinking focused on selling superficial wants, and killing our planet.
"We need wisdom, truth, ethics and an understanding of worth that measures the impacts of our designs at an ecosystem level. We must become champions of maintenance and reuse, rather than this constant, relentless and planetary destructive cool newness and innovation cults. We can design great things with so much less of the earth’s energy. We can be part of highly efficient organizations while using so much less data. Let us not go down in history as Generation Waste, the designers whose proudest moment was to fashion the final nail. If we designed our way into this mess, we can design our way out of it."

Como escribe Simon Sticker, “Transmedia is about the story, not the tools” (el Transmedia se refiere a la historia, no a las herramientas).
