WELCOME
My artistic focus this year for the Darwin
Symphony Orchestra is “Celebration”.
2009, therefore, promises to be a very
upbeat year for the Orchestra, as we
celebrate from the beginning to the end!
The Orchestra begins its Season, under the baton of
anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn, one of the most

A FASCINATING TWENTY YEAR STORY!
2009 marks the 20th Anniversary of the
Darwin Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and to
celebrate, this year’s program will offer
audiences of the Northern Territory’s only
symphony orchestra a variety of concerts
across three major series.

In 2009, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra
will work closely with Charles Darwin
University’s Centre for Youth Music (CYM)
to bring some of the DSO’s visiting guest
artists to the the Darwin Youth Orchestra
(DYO) and local schools.
Teachers at selected Darwin public and private schools will be
given background information to help make their preparation

In 2008, Ros Bracher AM (Patron and

bursaries to students who may one day

This generosity has helped to support secondary and
tertiary students in the development of their orchestral
practice, through individual lessons and attendance as
trainee performers at a limited number of rehearsals and
were expected to continue with their existing ensembles as
recipients to maintain a strong musical connection with their

SEASON 2009 WELCOME My artistic focus this year for the Darwin Symphony Orchestra is “Celebration”. 2009, therefore, promises to be a very upbeat year for the Orchestra, as we celebrate from the beginning to the end! The Orchestra begins its Season, under the baton of anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn, one of the most Good Friday, and then again in November, to help celebrate The DSO is helping to celebrate the ‘Darwin 200 Year ’internationally, by commissioning the fourth work Transmutations in a series of works by English composer Age of Wonders — a work in four the UK during the year, and the fourth part will be premiered Of course, there will be other things for us to help celebrate ‘Birthdays ’there will some surprises too!
