- 4. Set Runner – entry level position within TV – looking after cast and crew (fetching tea, organizing proper etc.) Office production assistant – one tier up from a runner, but basically a set PA. Their job is to make sure that the technical post- production on a film or TV programme is completed on schedule and is within budget. Part of their role is to ensure they are maintaining clarity of information between all major parties involved in the film, such as the supervising sound editor, the producer and the facilties companies (CGI studios etc) This job can be stressful, so it requires empathy and an ability to make difficult decisions under pressure. There are large amounts of money involved, and because most of the film’s budget is spent during production, managing finances during the post-production period can be challenging. They have to work with the production accountant and supply accurate information on cost reports, which are prepared every 3-4 weeks to show how actual expenditure compares to the original budget. They may be involved in a number of films at one time and are employed on a freelance basis by the producer for a fixed term period. They will need to be able to work to tight deadlines and make tough decisions under pressure. They usually work independently, but may employ an assistant. They will continue to work on the production until all the elements needed for the production are in place.
