2. The Setting
You and the four members of your group are the only survivors of a
plane crash. Your location is a remote island in the Caribbean. The
island is relatively small and is uninhabited. You were able to
salvage some items from the plane before it was engulfed in flames
(see next slide).
Your Task
As a group, you must decide how you will survive until you are
rescued. The rescue could take several weeks. You must decide
upon rules dealing with
the rationing of food and water,
safety for the group,
how to make contact with the rescuers
any other issues that you feel need to be looked after.
You must, therefore, draft a “Survivor Island Legal Code” that will be
used to govern your “society” until you are rescued (that is, if you
are rescued).
3. SUPPLIES LEGAL QUESTIONS
2 cases of water (70 x
500-mL bottles)
first-aid kit
2 blankets
box of matches
5 chocolate bars
24 snack-size bags of
peanuts
some dishes (2 plates,
3 cups, a small
stainless steel pot, 4
knives, and 2 forks).
Who will be in charge?
• What are the actions
that the group will take
to survive? What will be
the order of completing
these tasks?
• How will the rules be
enforced?
• What will happen if
someone violates one
of the rules? Who will
determine any
punishment?
