Child soldiers are defined as those under 18 years old who are involved in armed forces, whether regular or irregular. Approximately 250,000 child soldiers exist worldwide, with 30% being girls who are often used for sexual purposes or marriage. While some join voluntarily to support their families, most are forced through drug addiction, abuse, or poverty. Non-profit and non-governmental organizations work to help former child soldiers reintegrate into society through education, job training, and advocacy, but more must be done to address the root causes of poverty, religion, abuse, and their links to related issues like child marriage and labor.
