Newton’s Laws of Motion
are three physical laws that establish the science of kinematics. These
laws describe the relationship between the motion of an object and the
force acting on it. Theyare essential because they are the foundation of
classical mechanics, one of the main branches of physics. It was Isaac
Newton whoestablished these laws, and he used these laws to explain
manyphysical systems andphenomena.
Newton’s First
Law: law of
Inertia
Is a fundamental principle that describe the behavior of
objects in the absence of external influences. Every
object will continue to do what it is doing if it at rest it
will remain at rest and if it is in motion, it will be stay in
motion
Newton’s First Law of Motion
“An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in
motion unless acted on by a net external force”
Explanation of Newton’s First Law
This means that motion cannot change or decrease without the effect of an
unbalanced force.
That is, if the resultant force is zero, then the velocity of the object is
constant. When we say that the velocity of an object is constant, we mean
that both magnitude and direction are constant.
An object at rest stay at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same
speed and same direction unless acted upon by unbalanced force.
Force are balanced
Object at rest
V=0 m/s
Stay at rest
Object in
uniform motionv
not 0
Stay in motion
Same velocity
and direction
Law of inertia
To understand inertia, we need to look at the first law of motion again and this means the
objects tend to keep on doing what they are doing; the natural tendency of every object
to resist change in their state of motion. If they are at rest, they would prefer to remain at
rest also if they are moving in constant velocity they would want to continue doing .
This tendency of object is called inertia.
When the car stops suddenly, driver fall forward.
