I .OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of: East Asian literature as an art form inspired and
influenced by nature; relationship of visual, sensory, and verbal signals in both literary and
expository texts; strategies in listening to long descriptive and narrative texts; value of literal and
figurative language; and appropriate grammatical signals or expressions suitable to patterns of
idea development.
B. Performance Standard
The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a brief and creative entertainment
speech featuring a variety of effective paragraphs, appropriate grammatical signals or
expressions in topic development, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.
C. Learning Competency: Employ the appropriate communicative styles for various situations (intimate and casual)
D. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Identify the difference between intimate and casual styles in various situations;
b. Create short conversations out of the given communication situations using casual and
intimate styles;
c. Value the importance of intimate and casual communicative style in real life situations.

IV. PROCEDURES
Preparation/Classroom Routine: (2 minutes)
 The class will start with a prayer to be led by the assigned prayer leader.
Afterwards, greet the students, let them arrange themselves accordingly and let

them observe proper alignment of chairs and cleanliness of respective areas.
Ask the classroom secretary to check the attendance and report the names of
the students who are not around.

A.. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new
lesson
Students will give a recap about the previous lesson. (3 minutes)
(Conditionals in expressing an Arguments)
Possible questions to be asked:
1. Who can give me a short recap about our previous discussion?
2. How do you use conditional in an argument?
 Expressed using the if/when structure.
3. What is the importance of conditionals in expressing arguments?
 It helps us express things that may happen in the present and future.

B.. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
ACTIVITY 1: PICTURE ANALYSIS (5 minutes)
 The teacher will show picture on the screen and let the learners list down all
their observation on the picture.
Questions to be asked:
1. What can you see in the image?
2. What do you think they are doing?
3. What about the bubbles that come out from their mouths? What do they
symbolize?
 Afterwards, introduce the topic and present the objectives of the lesson.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1
Presentation of the topic using PowerPoint presentation (10 minutes)
Casual style is also known as Informal Style. This communicative style is used in
conversations between friends and people who have something to share and have shared
background information. This type does not follow any structure unlike Formal Style. There
is free and easy participation of both speaker and listener. It allows the use of ellipsis,
slang, profanity and unconventional English words.
This style is usually used in phone calls, everyday conversation with classmates or
friends, chat, and text messages.
This type of communicative style is used in conversations between people who are
very close and have known each other quite well because they have the maximum of
shared background information.
Uses personal language codes, non-verbal communication such as gestures, facial
expressions, and eye contact.
Targets multiple intelligences.
Targeting COT indicator #1
and COT #8.
Indicator #1 applied
knowledge of content within

CASUAL COMMUNICATIVE STYLE

Usually used in couple talking about their relationship goals, family sharing things
about each other, and best friends sharing secrets, special moments and so on.

ACTIVITY 2: RANK ME IN (2 minutes)
 The teacher will present different situations on the screen.
 The learner will rank the level of formality of the 5 situations.
____1. A boy animatedly telling a story to friend.
____2. A lady asking for a lawyer’s opinion.
____3. A man asking for a direction from a vendor.
____4. A principal giving an inspirational message.
____5. A girl saying “I miss you” to his boyfriend.

F. Developing mastery
(leads to Formative Assessment 3
ACTIVITY 3: LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION (10 minutes practice, 5 minutes
presentation)
The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups. Each group will be given different scenario
depending on the scenario they picked randomly. They will think of what they will say to this
person depending on the present situation. Maximum of six dialogues only. They will be given
10 minutes to do their task. Afterwards, they will be asked to present their output.

ACTIVITY 5: TRUE OR FALSE (5 minutes)
Directions: Write True if the statement tells the correct information and False if it
does not tell the correct information. Write your answers in your answer sheet.
False_1. The word " love" is a jargon which means a score of zero for tennis,
badminton and some other sports and also an example of Casual communicative style.
True 2. Slang words are often used in the speech of the young and somewhat isolated
groups like students and military recruits.
True 3. Casual Communicative style is an informal language used by Peers and
friends,
False 4. Colloquialisms are words or phrases that are formal and are not used in
ordinary or familiar conversation.
False 5. Blogs are not examples of Casual Communicative style.

Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of: East Asian literature as an art form inspired and influenced by nature; relationship of visual, sensory, and verbal signals in both literary and expository texts; strategies in listening to long descriptive and narrative texts; value of literal and figurative language; and appropriate grammatical signals or expressions suitable to patterns of idea development. B. Performance Standard The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a brief and creative entertainment speech featuring a variety of effective paragraphs, appropriate grammatical signals or expressions in topic development, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior. C. Learning Competency: Employ the appropriate communicative styles for various situations (intimate and casual) D. Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: a. Identify the difference between intimate and casual styles in various situations; b. Create short conversations out of the given communication situations using casual and intimate styles; c. Other Learning Resource www.wikipedia.com IV. PROCEDURES Preparation/Classroom Routine: (2 minutes)  The class will start with a prayer to be led by the assigned prayer leader. Afterwards, greet the students, let them arrange themselves accordingly and let
  • 2. 2 them observe proper alignment of chairs and cleanliness of respective areas. Ask the classroom secretary to check the attendance and report the names of the students who are not around. encourage learning by preparing the learners environment that is conducive which promotes fairness, respect and care. A.. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson Students will give a recap about the previous lesson. (3 minutes) (Conditionals in expressing an Arguments) Possible questions to be asked: 1. Who can give me a short recap about our previous discussion? 2. How do you use conditional in an argument?  Expressed using the if/when structure. 3. What is the importance of conditionals in expressing arguments?  It helps us express things that may happen in the present and future. LOTS and HOTS questions targeting COT indicator #3. B.. Establishing a purpose for the lesson ACTIVITY 1: PICTURE ANALYSIS (5 minutes)  The teacher will show picture on the screen and let the learners list down all their observation on the picture. Questions to be asked: 1. What can you see in the image? 2. What do you think they are doing? 3. What about the bubbles that come out from their mouths? What do they symbolize?  Afterwards, introduce the topic and present the objectives of the lesson. Motivates learners with activities that promotes critical thinking through analysis of pictures that develop vocabulary skills and numeracy skills through time consciousness during the activity. Targeting COT indicator #2. Indicator #6 and #8 -showing picture that maintains learning environments that promote fairness, respect and care to encourage learning. C.. Presenting examples/Instances of the new lesson Questions to be asked: 1. What did you see in the illustration? In this part COT indicator #2 is targeted to enhance learner achievement in literacy and numeracy skills. Cot #9- Used strategies for providing timely, accurate and constructive feedback to improve learner

How will you maintain a good conditions of your body?  Afterwards, introduce the topic and present the objectives of the lesson performance. Cot#1- Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1 Presentation of the topic using PowerPoint presentation (10 minutes) Casual style is also known as Informal Style. This communicative style is used in conversations between friends and people who have something to share and have shared background information. This type does not follow any structure unlike Formal Style. There is free and easy participation of both speaker and listener. It allows the use of ellipsis, slang, profanity and unconventional English words. This style is usually used in phone calls, everyday conversation with classmates or friends, chat, and text messages. This type of communicative style is used in conversations between people who are very close and have known each other quite well because they have the maximum of shared background information. Uses personal language codes, non-verbal communication such as gestures, facial expressions, and eye contact. Targets multiple intelligences. Targeting COT indicator #1 and COT #8. Indicator #1 applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas. CASUAL COMMUNICATIVE STYLE INTIMATE COMMUNICATIVE STYLE
  • 4. 4 Usually used in couple talking about their relationship goals, family sharing things about each other, and best friends sharing secrets, special moments and so on. E.. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 2 ACTIVITY 2: RANK ME IN (2 minutes)  The teacher will present different situations on the screen.  The learner will rank the level of formality of the 5 situations. ____1. A boy animatedly telling a story to friend. ____2. A lady asking for a lawyer’s opinion. ____3. A man asking for a direction from a vendor. ____4. A principal giving an inspirational message. ____5. A girl saying “I miss you” to his boyfriend. The teacher started with different group activities to prepare each learner for the individual tasks promoting higher chances of success. Developing mastery (leads to Formative Assessment 3 ACTIVITY 3: LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION (10 minutes practice, 5 minutes presentation) The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups. Each group will be given different scenario depending on the scenario they picked randomly. They will think of what they will say to this person depending on the present situation. Maximum of six dialogues only. They will be given 10 minutes to do their task. Afterwards, they will be asked to present their output. Relevance-10 Clearness -5 Presentation- 15 Total- 30 points Scenario #1- A family sharing experiences Scenario #2: A lover expressing their love The teacher started with different group activities to prepare each learner for the individual tasks promoting higher chances of success. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living ACTIVITY 4: TELL ME MORE (5 minutes) 1. How do you assess our lesson for today? 2. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson Questions to be asked: (3 minutes) 1. Are the communicative styles presented are important? Why? 2. In a family setting, how an intimate communication helps the family relation? Cot #1 -Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas. Cot #3- Applied a range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative thinking, as well as higher- order thinking skills. I. Evaluating learning ACTIVITY 5: TRUE OR FALSE (5 minutes) Directions: Write True if the statement tells the correct information and False if it does not tell the correct information. Write your answers in your answer sheet. False_1. The word " love" is a jargon which means a score of zero for tennis, badminton and some other sports and also an example of Casual communicative style. True 2. Slang words are often used in the speech of the young and somewhat isolated groups like students and military recruits. True 3. Casual Communicative style is an informal language used by Peers and friends, False 4. Colloquialisms are words or phrases that are formal and are not used in ordinary or familiar conversation. False 5. Blogs are not examples of Casual Communicative style. The teacher designed an assessment tool that measures the amount of learning among the students which are aligned with the set of objectives and activities. Targeting COT indicator #9.
