This study aims to analyze the hydrological characteristics as a result of changes
in land use with the help of the SWAT hydrological model and can provide
recommendations on the best land use in the Koto Panjang Electric Power catchment
area. Based on the results of the analysis using the SWAT hydrological model, it was
seen that there were effects of land use changes in 2011 and 2014 on hydrological
characteristics; yield of water (WATER YLD) of 2,413.38 mm, and 1.008, 65 mm,
runoff coefficient (C) of 0.19 and 0.063 respectively, and river regime coefficient
(KRS) of 11.449 and 12.212, respectively. The best land use to be developed in
agricultural cultivation areas as a recommendation to maintain water stability in the
Koto Panjang hydropower catchment area is a simple and complex agroforestry
pattern in scenario III, which is run together with hydrological characteristics in the
form; water yield (WATER YLD) of 1.038, 41, surface runoff coefficient (C) of 0.023,
and river regime coefficient (KRS) of 11.13. The hydrological characteristics in
scenario III are far better than 2014 land use characteristics (existing).

Application of Remote Sensing Techniques for Mapping Shifting Cultivation
Shifting cultivation is an ancient and primitive method of cultivation, also referred to as ‘slash and burn’ or ‘rotational bush fallow agricultural system’. The practice mainly involves removal of the forests by primitive slash and burn technique followed by mixed cropping for short period before abandoning the site. Tribals all over India are known to follow the practice of shifting cultivation with some regional variations. The present study has been undertaken to estimate the spatial distribution of podu cultivation in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh by using remote sensing techniques. Results of the present study indicate that an estimated area of 10,491.857 acres of the forest area is under shifting cultivation in Srikakulam district. Shifting cultivation has caused a great deal of environmental degradation. Remote sensing techniques with repetitive coverage and synoptic view provide database for assessing environment degrading practices. Mapping of shifting areas is important not only from ecological point of view but also for management purposes.

Desde el 16 de marzo del 2017 el Programa Nacional de Conservación de Bosques para la Mitigación del Cambio Climático (PNCBMCC) del Ministerio del Ambiente de Perú (MINAM) viene implementando una metodología para la detección de alertas tempranas de la pérdida de cobertura de bosques húmedos tropicales de Perú, la detección se hace cada semana usando imágenes de Landsat 7 y 8 calibradas a reflectancia al tope de la atmosfera (TOA). La cobertura de nubes, neblina y sombra son enmascaradas de las imágenes y para la detección de la pérdida de cobertura de bosque se desarrolló una técnica de análisis de mixtura espectral (SMA) que denominamos desmezcla espectral directa (DSU), el modelo de desmezcla espectral fue construido a partir de los endmembers de bosque primario y la pérdida de cobertura de bosques. Se detectó hasta un 25% de pérdida de cobertura de bosque dentro de un pixel de Landsat. Hasta el 25 de diciembre del 2017 se usaron 500 imágenes Landsat y se detectaron 137 142.99 ha de pérdida de cobertura de bosques húmedos tropicales, esta pérdida incluye la deforestación por expansión agropecuaria, actividades extractivas ilegales o informales, que puede incluir la apertura de caminos para la tala selectiva, se detecta de igual forma las pérdida natural de bosques producida por vientos huracanados, deslizamientos de tierra en áreas montañosas con fuerte pendiente, entre otros. Los resultados fueron verificados con imágenes satelitales de alta resolución espacial, sobrevuelos y trabajo de campo. La evaluación de la exactitud se realizó utilizando un método de muestreo estratificado aleatorio, obteniéndose una alta precisión de usuario y productor. Application of Remote Sensing Techniques for Mapping Shifting Cultivation
Shifting cultivation is an ancient and primitive method of cultivation, also referred to as ‘slash and burn’ or ‘rotational bush fallow agricultural system’. The practice mainly involves removal of the forests by primitive slash and burn technique followed by mixed cropping for short period before abandoning the site. Tribals all over India are known to follow the practice of shifting cultivation with some regional variations. The present study has been undertaken to estimate the spatial distribution of podu cultivation in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh by using remote sensing techniques. Results of the present study indicate that an estimated area of 10,491.857 acres of the forest area is under shifting cultivation in Srikakulam district. Shifting cultivation has caused a great deal of environmental degradation. Remote sensing techniques with repetitive coverage and synoptic view provide database for assessing environment degrading practices. Mapping of shifting areas is important not only from ecological point of view but also for management purposes.

Desde el 16 de marzo del 2017 el Programa Nacional de Conservación de Bosques para la Mitigación del Cambio Climático (PNCBMCC) del Ministerio del Ambiente de Perú (MINAM) viene implementando una metodología para la detección de alertas tempranas de la pérdida de cobertura de bosques húmedos tropicales de Perú, la detección se hace cada semana usando imágenes de Landsat 7 y 8 calibradas a reflectancia al tope de la atmosfera (TOA). La cobertura de nubes, neblina y sombra son enmascaradas de las imágenes y para la detección de la pérdida de cobertura de bosque se desarrolló una técnica de análisis de mixtura espectral (SMA) que denominamos desmezcla espectral directa (DSU), el modelo de desmezcla espectral fue construido a partir de los endmembers de bosque primario y la pérdida de cobertura de bosques. Se detectó hasta un 25% de pérdida de cobertura de bosque dentro de un pixel de Landsat. Hasta el 25 de diciembre del 2017 se usaron 500 imágenes Landsat y se detectaron 137 142.99 ha de pérdida de cobertura de bosques húmedos tropicales, esta pérdida incluye la deforestación por expansión agropecuaria, actividades extractivas ilegales o informales, que puede incluir la apertura de caminos para la tala selectiva, se detecta de igual forma las pérdida natural de bosques producida por vientos huracanados, deslizamientos de tierra en áreas montañosas con fuerte pendiente, entre otros. Los resultados fueron verificados con imágenes satelitales de alta resolución espacial, sobrevuelos y trabajo de campo. La evaluación de la exactitud se realizó utilizando un método de muestreo estratificado aleatorio, obteniéndose una alta precisión de usuario y productor. In forestry sector, the remote sensing technology hold a key role on forest inventory and
monitoring their changes. This paper describes the algorithm for detecting deforestation and forest
degradation using high resolution satellite imageries with knowledge-based approach. The main objective
of the study is to develop a practical technique for monitoring deforestation and forest degradation
occurred within the mangrove and swamp forest ecosystem. The SPOT 4, 5, and 6 images acquired in
2007, 2012 and 2014 were transformed into three vegetation indices, i.e., Normalized Difference
Vegetation Index (NDVI), Green-Normalized Difference Vegetation index (GNDVI) and Normalized
Green-Red Vegetation index (NRGI). The study found that deforestation was well detected and identified
using the NDVI and GNDVI, however the forest degradation could be well detected using NRGI, better
than NDVI and GNDVI. The study concludes that the strategy for monitoring deforestation, biomass-based
forest degradation as well as forest growth could be done by combining the use of NDVI, GNDVI and
NRGI respectively.

The participatory management plan is a technical, legal and social device that joins the objectives of biodiversity conservation and the socio-economic needs of local populations. This research work aims to evaluate the impact of Wari-Maro classified forest management plan implementation on the structure and specific diversity of vegetation types. The methodological approach followed is based on the comparison of the dendrometric parameters and plant diversity parameters before and after the management plan implementation. The phytosociological and dendrometric database before the management plan was compiled with data from the forest inventory conducted by PAMF project in 2004 and others work. The forest and phytosociological inventories were carried out on the plots (70) from the forest inventory of PAMF project (2004) following the same methodological principles. The Shannon diversity index decreased from 3.35 ± 0.57 bits in 2004 to 1.98 ± 0.73 bits in 2014. The average density of dbh trees ≥ 10 cm decreased from 740.37 ± 269 , 86 stems / ha in 2004 to 184 ± 100 stems / ha in 2014. The results of the 5% sample matched t-test reveal a non-significant difference between the Shannon Diversity Index of 2004 and of 2014. On the other hand, the results of the sample t-test matched at the 5% threshold, reveal a significant difference between the average density value of 2004 and 2014 for all vegetation types except shrub savannas, fields and fallows. Most of the plant species found before the management plan are still present despite the decreased in individuals’ density.

crop land, 1.778% of the area is covered by dry deciduous forest, 1.38 % of mixed plantation, which is very threatening to the
environmental stability of the forest, future plantation site has been mapped. With the use of latest Geo-informatics technology proper
and exact condition of the trees can be observed and necessary precautions can be taken for future plantation works in an appropriate
manner
