Inter Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSR) markers were utilized to identify the levels of heritable varieties and patterns of the populace structure among the five populaces of Pteris biaurita, a natural fern in India. A comprehensive examination was directed in three replicates at 2013-14 seasons in the Western Ghats, South India. Five wild P. biaurita, accessions (maiden hair) were assessed for genotyping studies. Results demonstrated a pivotal discrepancy among genotypes for they were characterized in view of this uniqueness in four groups by the genetic cluster examination. In this trial, ISSR primers amplified 63 polymorphic groups. In view of the genetic identity data, genotypes were figured and differed from 0.5714 to 0.6984. The percentage of polymorphism indicated predominant genotype that may be utilized for the conservation of species. DNA barcoding help to recognize the plant based on short, gene sequences in a rapid, accurate, and cost effective manner. Current focus is on the investigation of phytomedicinals and herbal product integrity and authenticity through DNA barcoding with the goal of protecting consumers from potential health risks associated with product substitution and contamination. Recent reports reveal that DNA barcoding can be used for the assignment of unknown specimens to a taxonomic group, authentic identification of phytomedicinals, and in plant biodiversity conservation. Research indicates that there is no single universal barcode candidate for identification of all plant groups. Hence, comparative analysis of plant barcode loci is essential for choosing a best candidate for authenticating particular medicinal plant genus/families. Currently, both chloroplast/nuclear regions are used as universal barcodes for the authentication of phytomedicinals. A recent advance in genomics has further enhanced the progress in DNA barcoding of plants by the introduction of high-throughput techniques like next generation sequencing, which has paved the way for complete plastome sequencing that is now termed as super-barcodes. Hence, current focus is on the investigation of phytomedicines and herbal product integrity and authenticity through DNA barcoding with the goal of protecting consumers from potential health risks associated with product substitution and contamination. These approaches could improve the traditional ethnobotanical and scientific knowledge of phytomedicines and their safe use.

This study evaluated 4 grafting methods for their ability to transmit apple proliferation disease (caused by 'Candidatus Phytoplasma mali') from infected plants to healthy indicator plants. Whip and bark grafting were most effective for transmitting the disease from infected apple trees to healthy apple rootstocks. Chip budding successfully transmitted the disease from infected to healthy periwinkle plants. Surprisingly, the disease was also transmitted from infected apple material directly to about 60% of healthy periwinkle plants, though symptoms took longer to appear. Whip and bark grafting of infected apple material to healthy apple rootstocks is recommended as the most suitable method for biological indexing of apple proliferation disease.

Poster on microtube bacterial encapsulation
This study encapsulated the atrazine-degrading bacterium Pseudomonas sp. ADP in electrospun polymeric microtubes for long-term atrazine removal. In consecutive batch experiments over 2 years without an external carbon source, the encapsulated bacteria continuously degraded atrazine and produced ammonium. Analysis showed the bacterial community shifted from pure P. sp. ADP culture to include other species, likely enabling long-term degradation. The microtubes maintained a stable bacterial population for atrazine bioremediation.

Purfication and isolation of Bricole phage
Researchers isolated and purified a bacteriophage from a soil sample collected in Virginia Beach, VA. Through enrichment techniques and multiple purification methods including streak tests, titer assays, and lysate preparations, they believe they have isolated a single lytic phage. Electron microscopy of the purified phage showed tails approximately 300nm in length. The next steps are further DNA analysis through restriction enzyme digestion and gel electrophoresis to characterize the phage genome.
AUA DNA Barcoding 2018 Group 1
DNA barcoding was used to identify plant species collected from Mount Obama in Antigua. DNA was successfully extracted from 15 plant samples using a plant DNA extraction kit. PCR amplification using rbcLa primers was successful for 6 samples as shown by bands on an agarose gel. The 6 samples were sent for sequencing and the sequences matched to 6 plant species in the NCBI database: Morinda pubescens, Mimosa pudica, and Turnera ulmifolia. This demonstrated that DNA barcoding can be used to identify plant species found on Mount Obama.
Group 2 AUA DNA barcoding project

Purfication and isolation of Bricole phage
Researchers isolated and purified a bacteriophage from a soil sample collected in Virginia Beach, VA. Through enrichment techniques and multiple purification methods including streak tests, titer assays, and lysate preparations, they believe they have isolated a single lytic phage. Electron microscopy of the purified phage showed tails approximately 300nm in length. The next steps are further DNA analysis through restriction enzyme digestion and gel electrophoresis to characterize the phage genome.
AUA DNA Barcoding 2018 Group 1
DNA barcoding was used to identify plant species collected from Mount Obama in Antigua. DNA was successfully extracted from 15 plant samples using a plant DNA extraction kit. PCR amplification using rbcLa primers was successful for 6 samples as shown by bands on an agarose gel. The 6 samples were sent for sequencing and the sequences matched to 6 plant species in the NCBI database: Morinda pubescens, Mimosa pudica, and Turnera ulmifolia. This demonstrated that DNA barcoding can be used to identify plant species found on Mount Obama.
Group 2 AUA DNA barcoding project

The author isolated and identified the pathogen from infected pigeonpea plants collected from fields in Madhya Pradesh, India.
