Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the enhanced counseling intervention focusing on identity, safer sex skills, and regular HIV testing or the standard program. The effectiveness of the enhanced intervention will be evaluated based on whether it reduces sexual risk behavior more than the standard program based on behavioral assessments at 6 and 9 month follow ups.

The program is based on models of information, motivation, and behavioral skills, and uses motivational interviewing techniques over multiple sessions to help participants set and achieve risk reduction goals in a supportive environment. Preliminary research found the program increased participants' sense of agency regarding their sexual health, social support systems, and confidence making healthier choices.

AACO states the most vulnerable population is young men who have sex with men of color (MSM) between the ages of 15 and 25. This young population makes up for 56% of all new diagnosis of in the city (AACO, 2012). It is imperative for Philadelphia Fight to stay innovative with their approach to tackling sexual health issues that face this city. One major way Philadelphia Fight is addressing is epidemic is through opening the Youth Health Empowerment Project (Y-HEP). Hi52Hlth: Using Mobile Technology to Access Healthcare for Teens
Hi52Hlth is a mobile application (app) created to engage adolescents and young adults in the search for resources in the Houston area. The app allows the user to search for locations of clinics and community organizations with directions, articles and videos on HIV/AIDS, ability to ask questions directly to health avatars ("Tiff" and "Ty"), PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) information, and a frequently asked questions section.

Many older adults experience some form of abuse (psychological, physical, and sexual) that often goes unreported. Elder abuse is associated with morbidity and premature mortality. This review examines the effectiveness of interventions for preventing elder abuse in the home, institutions and community settings. Findings of the review suggest there is uncertainty in the effectiveness of educational interventions to improve knowledge of caregivers about elder abuse and uncertainty on its effect of reducing abuse. This webinar will examine the effectiveness and components of interventions that prevent elder abuse.
Urinary Tract Infection in Children
This document discusses barriers to teaching addiction medicine in residency programs and strategies for overcoming them. It describes how a private foundation called MERF partners with family practice residencies to provide faculty development support through educational conferences and scholarships. This helps improve faculty expertise and attitudes, and allows for better integration of addiction curriculum that increases screening and treatment of substance use disorders. The study demonstrated that social media can effectively deliver HIV prevention interventions to at-risk groups.
Stress Less About Sex: A Peer-Led SMS Model to Increase Access to Sexual Heal...
Stress Less About Sex, a peer-led text messaging program to increase access to sexual health and family planning services for youth in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, has reached 150 youth in its year of implementation in a neighborhood with some of the highest youth pregnancy and STI rates in the city. Through a focus on ongoing participant empowerment and feedback, the project has evolved beyond its original scope to include a youth-generated social media component as well as supplementary funding to convene a group of young men to discuss how to better engage young men in managing their sexual health needs.
This presentation will include best practices garnered from a year of implementation and will focus on how agencies can integrate a peer leader model into their text message outreach and recruitment strategies.
Providing inclusive care for LGBTQ patients at SBHCs
National studies have demonstrated that LGBTQ adolescents are disproportionately impacted by negative health outcomes including STDs, HIV, and unplanned pregnancy. In 2014, Essential Access Health surveyed LAUSD school-based Wellness Centers; gaps in current knowledge and practice related to inclusive clinical care of LGBTQ patients were identified. In 2016, we implemented staff trainings to improve LGBTQ-inclusive services. Based on training evaluation, areas for further technical assistance were identified, and used to develop online training resources. This presentation will discuss tools and best practices for implementing trainings on inclusive care.
BANPH CB
The Bay Area Network for Positive Health (BANPH) works with 12 organizations in the Oakland/San Francisco area to link HIV-positive individuals to medical care and help them stay in care. Through outreach workers and linkage specialists, BANPH has engaged over 600 individuals and linked over 400 to care. BANPH found that many HIV-positive people face barriers like homelessness, addiction, mental illness or lack of transportation that prevent them from accessing care, so they recommend being flexible and developing trust with individuals before pressuring them to engage with care. Building relationships with an individual's social network can also help support ongoing care.

This study examined multilevel factors that influence women's engagement in HIV treatment and care. Researchers interviewed 33 HIV-positive women and analyzed their care experiences. They found that women who were consistently engaged in care generally had more positive healthcare experiences like supportive providers and prompt linkage to care. Women who were inconsistently engaged in care faced some challenges like negative provider interactions and barriers to medications. Women who were detached from care most often had negative healthcare experiences, challenges accessing housing and medications, and substance abuse issues. The presence of supportive services and relationships helped facilitate engagement for some women.
