English Language Skill Needs of the Secretarial StudentPremier Publishers
This study explored the perception of Secretaryship and Management students about English Language generally; identified their skill needs in the subject and suggests strategies for improving those skills. A descriptive survey research design was adopted and involved 60 participants. Using the systematic random sampling technique, 20 students were selected from each level of study (Level 100 –300) in the Higher National Diploma in Secretaryship and Management Studies Programme at the Wa Technical University. A total number of 60 questionnaires was administered and the same number was retrieved and used in this study. The data were analysed using Microsoft Excel with the results presented in frequency tables and graphs. The study found that participants perceive English Language as a difficult subject; nonetheless, it is indispensable in their academic and professional lives. They affirmed writing, speaking, reading and listening skills as the most important skill needs and identified speaking as the most challenging skill to acquire. The study also found that surprisingly, majority (57%) of the participants was not conversant with email and related applications in English relevant to the modern secretary. The study recommends the regular practice of speaking, writing, reading, and listening as some of the measures to help improve upon the English language skills of the students. They should also be equipped with some basic knowledge in the use of modern information technological tools like email and PowerPoint to enhance their professionalism.
Reconsidering english language teaching in vernacular medium schools of india...Atiya Khan
Although there have been recurring reforms in the policy of Indian government towards the teaching and learning of English and currently English is taught as a compulsory subject in all schools, students from vernacular-medium schools suffer as apart from total unfamiliarity with the language, the pedagogies used to teach English do not enable them to speak the language fluently. Albeit, the demands in India for better teaching and learning of English are not being met meaningfully in vernacular-medium schools. Vernacular-medium students in India mostly leave school speaking a language that would not be recognised in the job market. This paper is a review of related literature to suggest a reconsideration of English language teaching in vernacular-medium schools of India with an emphasis on employability.

based on the fact that functional writing is an area faced with challenges. The main objective of the study was to
examine the influence of functional writing skills on students‟ performance in Kiswahili. Theoretical framework
was based on Jane Emig‟s Process Theory of Composition writing (1971). The study employed descriptive
research design and data was collected using the questionnaire, observation schedule and document analysis.
The area of study was Elgeyo-Marakwet County. The target population included form four students and teachers
of Kiswahili in 37 out of the 122 secondary schools. From this population, stratified, purposive and simple
random sampling was used to get a sample. There were 9852 Form Four students in secondary schools in
Elgeyo –Marakwet County as at October, 2020. During the entire study 579 students in Form Four class and 35
teachers of Kiswahili participated. The study used both primary and secondary data. Lecturers in School of
Education at the University of Eldoret determined the validity of the research thesis instruments. Reliability was
tested using test-retest method in four secondary schools in Uasin Gishu County. Questionnaire was the main
source of primary data. Data from the questionnaire was presented in frequency tables and percentages using
descriptive statistics, narrative and verbatim. The research established that inappropriate style and structure,
incorrect use of language, negative attitude of learners as well as poor teaching strategies of functional writing
skills have a major impact on students‟ performance of Kiswahili in secondary schools. The findings will be
used for reference by other researchers and it will also give guidance on how to improve in the writing of
functional essays. The study recommended that teachers should emphasize on the style and structure,
appropriate choice of vocabulary when teaching and evaluating learners on functional writing.

This document summarizes a paper presented at the 8th International Conference on Language and Development in Bangladesh in 2009. The paper explores the importance employers in Bangladesh place on English language skills when hiring. It finds that English ability is often used as a screening mechanism in recruitment and is considered a prerequisite for employment, especially in government jobs and organizations that work internationally. While English skills can provide opportunities, they also function to exclude many without access to English education. The paper examines literature showing graduates in other countries also struggle in jobs requiring English communication skills.
This document summarizes a study that investigated teaching and learning strategies for writing among English teachers and secondary school students in Jordan. The study aimed to understand the strategies used by teachers and students when writing, identify their attitudes towards writing, and identify challenges students face. Data was collected through questionnaires given to 10 teachers and 30 students. The findings showed that students struggled with writing in English and often had negative attitudes towards it. The study concluded that more effective teaching strategies are needed to better support students' writing skills development.

Analysis of the effectiveness of Teaching Strategies of Functional Writing on...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT : Functional writing has been given prominence in the Secondary school Kiswahili syllabus in
Kenya. This paper reports on study that was undertaken in 2020 that investigated the influence of functional
writing skills on students‟ performance of Kiswahili in Elgeyo-Marakwet County. The need for this study was
based on the fact that functional writing is an area faced with challenges.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Literature
English Proficiency
Taken the definitions from dictionaries, English proficiency is the ability of
English as a language. Proficient users are said to have a good command of
the language, i.e., they can understand the language without difficulty,
express a range of ideas clearly in speech and writing, and interact with
other speakers comfortably (Renadya, W. A., 2018).
8. CHAPTER II Review of Related
Literature
English Proficiency Assessment
There are several frameworks that describe language proficiency level. A
well established and internationally recognized is CEFR (Common
European Framework of Reference) (Renadya, W. A., 2018). In the other
hand, there are 5 standardized English proficiency test in Indonesia
which are TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, Graduate Admission Management Test
(GMAT), Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (Wiruma, T. A., 2012). Five
performance indicators are usually used to assess language proficiency,
i.e., accuracy, fluency, complexity, appropriacy, and capacity (Richards,
2018).
9. CHAPTER II Review of
Related Literature
English Proficiency in Indonesia
According to English First (2019) which use CEFR method in taking online
worldwide test, for English proficiency, Indonesia ranks at 61 of 100
countries - a low proficiency rating. A study conducted by Nurweni and
Read (1999) provides some information level of Indonesian learners of
English. Can be taken from the study that the overall proficiency level of
the college students in the Nurweni and Read study probably did not
meet the expected standard.

Employability
• Core definition describes employability as ‘the individual ability to fulfil a variety of
functions in a given labour market’.
• Broader definition defines employability as ‘all individual factors that influence the
future positioning in a given segment of the labour market’.
• Comprehensive definition describes employability as ‘all individual amd context-
related factors that will influence the future labour position in a given labour market.
In simple terms, employability is about being capable of getting and keeping fulfilling
work.
Forrier A. And Sels L. (2003) in their study of “The concept employability: a complex
mosaic” brought Thijjsen’s classification of employability as:
11. CHAPTER II Review of

Employability in Indonesia
Employability skills is a number of skills and attributes are required by
graduates to meet up the eligibility criteria of prospective employers
typically highlighted in job advertisements (Suwarta, I M., et al. 2018.).
Suwarta then breaking out the top five of the generic skills most
frequently requested in the job advertisement as Communication
skills, Self-management skills, Teamwork skills, Creativity and
innovation skills, and Problem-solving skills.
12. CHAPTER II Review of
Related Literature
English Proficiency as Employability Skills
Among the soft skills, communication skills have received more
attention in the context of employability. Maria L.S. et al. (2014) state in
their study that in the 21st century, the English study goal should be to
help students develop the kind of English proficiency that will enable
them to function in the globally connected workplace. Kirubahar, et.al.
(2010) claim that high English communication competence has strong
relationship with the employability. Even the high unemployment rate
among graduates is often attributed to their lack of English proficiency
and communication skills (Ting, S-H, et al. 2017).
