- 5. נדרים התרת Annulling vows and promises
- 6. -RELATIVES CAN BE PART OF THE BEIS DIN -The one trying to annul his neder needs to understand what he is saying – he should say it in English if he doesn't understand the Hebrew
- 7. Which vows are being annulled? Any good and positive action he did with the intention to continue this action indefinitely is considered a vow. Like if he took out the garbage one time to help his Mom, and was thinking that he’d do it every night Additionally, if he did this virtuous practice 3 times, even without thinking it would continue, it needs נדרים התרת
- 8. SO THERE ARE 3 CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH WOULD NECESSITATE נדרים התרת 1)He actually promised to do a positive deed 2)He did a positive deed once, thinking he would continue 3)He did a positive deed 3 times, even if he never thought this would continue
- 9. The judges must know the difference between a פתח and חרטה What IS the difference? These are the 2 “excuses” a person would use when he wants to be ‘matir neder’
- 10. LETS SAY HE MADE A NEDER TO GO TO THE MIKVEH, WHICH WAS SOMETIMES VERY COLD… A פתח is an ‘opening’ – he never would have made the neder had he realized how cold it was חרטה is ‘regret’ – he knew it would be cold, but he thought he could handle it. Now he regrets the neder.
- 11. And this year, we use the same beis din we assembled for נדרים התרת to write a… פרוזבול What’s that? Pruzbul
- 12. The Torah says that all outstanding loans (money you owe someone) are cancelled at the end of the shmitta year That would mean that you don’t have to pay back the guy you borrowed money from So people started being hesitant to lend money, thinking they may never get their money back
- 13. But this wasn’t right, because the Torah says explicitly NOT to have this worry! So Hillel established the פרוזבול (pruzbul) document It essentially transfers all of your loans to beis din, and loans that are under the jurisdiction on beis din AREN’T subject to the laws of השמטת כספים – debts becoming cancelled
- 14. Fast day….but just 1/2 Mincha is last tefillah of the year! Make it count! Visit Jewish cemetery – preferably tzaddikim (they should intercede, not ח"ו that we are davening to them)
- 15. Mikve h Haircu t …Why ? Special Yom Tov Clothing (but not too fancy, its judgment day…)
- 18. Order: 1) Make a bracha (obviously only one העץ and one (האדמה 2)Taste a little of the food 3)Say the appropriate רצון יהי
- 20. THE 3 PARTS TO SHEMONEH ESREY ON ROSH HASHANA:
- 21. Add 4 additions: זכרינו... כמוך מי... וכתוב... חיים בספר... And change one bracha now - הא-הקדוש המלך הקדוש ל ….and one bracha right after Rosh Hashana – for all of תשובה ימי עשרת המשפט המלך ומשפט צדקה אוהב המלך

If you remember immediately, before saying Hashem’s name in the next bracha, go back and say them If you already said Hashem’s name – and certainly if you are already much farther in shemoneh esrey – don’t go back
- 23. הא-הקדוש המלך הקדוש ל What happens if you forgot these additions? If you… a) Are within 3 seconds of when you made this mistake, you can go back and say the correct ending b) If you already started the next bracha, you have to restart shemoneh esrey
- 24. המשפט המלך ומשפט צדקה אוהב המלך What happens if you forgot these additions? If you… a) Are within 3 seconds of when you made this mistake, you can go back and say the correct ending b) If you already started the next bracha, it’s o.k. – because you really said the words המשפט המלך within the mistaken ending!
