the country and is one of the prime stations of technological development of India. The city is
historically very rich due to the existence of some ancient and legendary landmarks. This is the
former diamond trading centre of the country and is the prime location of the most beautiful
mosques in India. Another facet of Hyderabad is its beautiful temples, that are symbols of the

amazing temples, known for its art and architecture. Hyderabad has some of the oldest temples in
Hyderabad, which were constructed during the Mughal and Nizam rule. One of the oldest known
temples in the city is said to be Akkanna Madanna Temple in Moghalpura, Kala Hanuman
Temple in Attapur and Yadagirigutta Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple; and the most popular
temples in Hyderabad is Sanghi temple, built by the Sanghi group of industries. It is dedicated to
Lord Venkateshwara and is a major spot for film shooting. Another famous temple known for its
grand architecture is the Sri Ramachandra Swamy temple, Ammapali Village and Ratnayalam

1. Narasimha Swamy Temple In Hyderabad: The temple is nestled on a small hillock on
the Vemulawada - Karimnagar highway. It is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Lakshmi
Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol was carved out of the rock around
which the temple was built. The visitors have to walk a few hundred steps that lead to the
top from nearest the parking area at bottom. The climb is little steep may take up to 15
minutes.
One the way to the Narasimha temple, there is a temple for Naga Devatha. The temple
was built in a model of Snake. Visitors can enter the shrine through the snake's belly - a

long, winding tunnel. There are statues depicting the story of Prahalada and
Hiranyakasipu. At the end of the tunnel, the statue of Lord Narasimha killing the demon
Hiranyakasipu is present. There are also a few ancient idols of Naga Devatha. At the
entrance of the temple, one can find a statue of Lord Narasimha breaking his way out of a
pillar.
Located in the outskirts of Hyderabad, in Toopran, this 6000 year old temple is calm and
peaceful. The Lord is said to be powerful, and the temple is neatly organized. It is located in a
cave, which is situated on a beautiful hillock. The temple also gets it to name from Nacharam
gutta, named after a devotee called Nacharam and is one of the best temples in Hyderabad
outskirts.

3. Birla Mandir:

Undoubtedly the most beautiful temple in Hyderabad, the Birla Mandir is one of the most
recognized temples in the country. It is more than 200ft high and was constructed in the 19th
century by a swami of Ramakrishna Mission. The temple is located on a hillock called Naubath
Pahad, and its construction took about 10 years to complete. It was named after Birla
Foundation, who constructed the temple with more than 2000 tons of white marble. Dedicated to
Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala Tirupati the marble was brought from Rajasthan for building
this temple. Located on the top of a hill of 280 feet, also known as Naubat Pahad, Birla Temple
stands magnificently, drawing admiring glances from every passerby. Birla mandir one of
the Top 10 tourist places to visit in Hyderabad. There are various Birla Mandir which have been
built all over the country. These have been constructed by the industrialists Birlas and are thus
popularly known by the the family that undertook the task. The architectural style of the
temple is a blend of North Indian and South Indian styles of temple architecture. The temple
tower or the ‘Gopuram’ exhibits the salient features of South Indian temples. The Jagadananda
Vimanam built atop the sanctum sanctorum resembles the Oriya style of temple architecture. It
took 10 years of dedicated and hard work of sculptors and artisans to complete the construction
of this temple.
The flagstaff of the Birla Mandir which has a height of 42 feet is made of brass. Scenes from the
epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata are intricately carved on the walls and ceilings of the
temple. The statues of deities belonging to Hindu mythology can be found from the entrance up
to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

4. Jagannath Temple:
Jagannath temple Hyderabad displays the contemporary Indian temple architecture and is one of
the most beautiful temples in the city. Being constructed by the Odia community, the Jagannath
Temple is dedicated to the Hindu god, Jagannath. It is a popular and sacred site for celebrating a
number of festivals. It has earned quite a fame due to its exact resemblance to the famous temple
of Puri. It is built in the year 2009, in an area of 3000 sq, yards using 600 tons of sandstone
sourced from Orissa.

5. Shyam Temple:
This beautiful temple is dedicated to Lord Shyam, who is believed to be one of the many
reincarnations of Lord Krishna. This temple is of special significance to the Indians. The
architecture of the temple attracts thousands of devotees every year. One of the unique features
of this temple is that the temple authority organizes night-long bhajans during the festivals. The
temple was opened in 1996 by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy and spreads over 30,000 sqft.

6. Venkateswara Swamy Temple Hyderabad: Chilkur-Chilkur Balaji Temple, popularly
known as "Visa Balaji Temple'', is an ancient Hindu temple of Lord Balaji on the banks
of Osman Sagar in Rangareddy District. It is one of the oldest temples in Hyderabad Dist earlier

now in Rangareddy Dist. built during the time of Madanna and Akkanna, the uncles of Bhakta
Ramadas.
This temple has no hundi and neither accepts any money from devotees.[2]

The only other such temple is
the Jalaram temple in Virpur (Rajkot), Gujarat. This temple fought and won the right to stay out
of government control. The only another such temple is "Ramanuj Kot", a temple in Jodhpur,
Rajasthan.
During a visit the devotee goes through the usual rituals of prayer, including
11 circumambulations of the inner shrine, and makes a vow. Once the wish is fulfilled devotees
then walk 108 times around the sanctum sanctorum. The majority of wishes by devotees
are visa related, thus Chilkur Balaji is also referred to as 'Visa' Balaji. The 11 circumambulations
represent the secret of creation — 11 means "1 soul and 1 body" — uniting both with devotion
and full determination to fulfill wish, dedicate on the lord; there is no second, everything is god.
In the 108 circumambulations, 1 represents the Existence, Almighty, God (Paramathma, Balaji in
the minds of the devotee), 0 represents Creation (Illusionary World, Jagath) and 8 represents the
time Human Body takes to come to this universe-8 months (Jivatma).
This is one of the very few temples in Indian that strictly avoid monetary donations. The only
source of the temple’s income is a magazine published in the name of the temple which costs
only 5 Rupees (INR). The Lord is also known as Visa Balaji, and it is common to see devotees
offering him 108 pradakshinas after attaining a visa.

7. Chennakesava Swamy Temple:
This self-manifested temple is believed to be one of the oldest temples in India. The temple is
located in a hillock in Keshavagiri. Presently this temple is under the supervision of Government
of Telangana and is another famous temple in Hyderabad district. It is told that the temple was
built during the Vijayanagara dynasty and is believed to be more than 600 years old. It has a 28
pillared mandapa and takes about 200 steps to reach the temple.

8. Karmanghat Hanuman Temple:

The temple was constructed under the supervision of the Kakatiya monarchs during the 11th
century. It is said that this historic temple is more than 800 years old and falls in the list of the
oldest temples of India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to the local
people, Lord Hanuman is one of the most powerful gods ever. Every year numerous devoted
worshipers visit this temple. As per history, it is said that a Kakatiya ruler was resting in this
place and heard someone chant the name of Rama and found the idol of Hanuman.

9. Peddamma Temple:
This temple is very famous among local people. Because of its architectural beauty, people all
over the country admire this temple and are attracted to this temple. The word ‘Peddamma’
means ‘Mothers of Mothers’ or ‘The Supreme Mother’ who is a Village Deity and has many
forms. Although there is no written history about this temple, it is said that the shrine dates back
to atleast 150 years. In the year 1993, the raja gopuram was constructed and ever since then, is
flocked with devotees round the year.

This temple is located in Jiyaguda, a place in Hyderabad. The temple is believed to be 400 years
old and is also one of the oldest temples of the country and is a famous temple in Hyderabad. IT
is constantly buzzling with the activities of devotes, who occupy themselves listening to the
pravachanams and taking part in the bhajans.

11. Ashtalakshmi Temple:
The Astalakshmi Temple is one of the most significant temples in Hyderabad. This temple
houses the magnificent statue of Devi Lakshmi. The speciality of the temple is the eight sub-
shrines of various forms of Laxmi Devi, which is quite rare to be located in one single place. The
temple was constructed in 1996 and is built under Kanchi Kama kotipeetam.

12. ISKCON Temple Hyderabad:
ISKCON is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is known as the International Society for Krishna
consciousness. It is located in Abids, Hyderabad and is beautifully maintained by the temple
trust. It is opened for the public on all days and the temple premise air resonates the bhajans of
Lord Krishna. This majestic golden temple, which has its nearly 40-feet main Gopuram (gatehouse tower)
decked up with gold plating. About 4.5 kg of gold was used for the purpose. Special artisans and sculptors
have been working on the temple transformation project, which is being executed at a cost of Rs15 crore,
Likewise, the Gopurams of other temples, including those of Sri Panchajanyeshwara Swamy, Sri Garuda, Sri
Radha Govinda and Sri Anjaneya Swamy in the complex, have also been given a plating of gold. The cynosure
of the temple would be the Jala Garbha Narayana Shali Grama, a fossilized shell, which is an iconic symbol
and reminder of Lord Narayana.

13. Lord Shiva Temple In Hyderabad:
Keesargutta houses a famous temple in Hyderabad that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is 90
minutes from Ameerpet. The temple is well maintained and is peaceful for you to pray. To warn
you, there are monkeys around here in the temple. Be careful when you circumvent the holy
space. The temple was named after Hanuman who is also known as Kesari. It is said that the
lingam in this temple is Swayambhu as well as Ramalingeswaram, the one installed by Lord Ra,
himself.

15. Sun Temple Hyderabad:
Sri Surya Devalayam is another famous temple in Hyderabad located in Tirimulghery. Sri
Suryasarandas Maharaj built this temple in 1959. The temple has a serene atmosphere with well-
maintained gardens and greenery.

It is dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara and is a major spot for film shooting. It is more than 200ft high and was constructed in the 19th century by a swami of Ramakrishna Mission. The temple is located on a hillock called Naubath Pahad, and its construction took about 10 years to complete. It was named after Birla Foundation, who constructed the temple with more than 2000 tons of white marble. Dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala Tirupati the marble was brought from Rajasthan for building this temple. It is located in Abids, Hyderabad and is beautifully maintained by the temple trust. It is opened for the public on all days and the temple premise air resonates the bhajans of Lord Krishna. This majestic golden temple, which has its nearly 40-feet main Gopuram (gatehouse tower) decked up with gold plating. About 4.5 kg of gold was used for the purpose. Special artisans and sculptors have been working on the temple transformation project, which is being executed at a cost of Rs15 crore, Likewise, the Gopurams of other temples, including those of Sri Panchajanyeshwara Swamy, Sri Garuda, Sri Radha Govinda and Sri Anjaneya Swamy in the complex, have also been given a plating of gold.
