Your actions may be more powerful
than you think.

Your words may affect people in
ways you won’t see.
Until its too late…

Think about your actions and how they make you look
Think Before You Act
 If you say something mean

to someone it will stay with
them much longer than you
can remember it.

 Give good, keep the bad.
 Don’t spread rumors or

gossip
Think Before You Act
In “Thirteen Reasons Why”
Hannah was judged due to
various stupid rumors, that
turned even her friends against
her. She admits that “every
single event documented here
may never have happened had
you, Alex, not written my name
on that list. It’s that simple.” Truly
it is that simple, one rumor, one
list dragged a young girl down
so much that her only escape
was suicide. We need to think
before we act and if something
is funny to us think how it would
feel if the shoe was on the other
foot and someone did this to us.
Put Yourself in The Victim’s Shoes
 Before you want to intentionally

hurt someone, put yourself in
their shoes. How may you feel
if someone spread rumors
about you or purposely tried to
cause you pain?
 In “Thirteen Reasons Why”
Hannah had a pretty unique
way to get people to
understand what it was like to
be in her shoes. Through her
various downfalls she makes
the bullies understand what
exactly they did to her.
You Never Know…
 What people are going through can be hidden

well
 Never judge, or make fun of someone because
you don’t know the load they carry.
Don’t Judge Too Quickly…
 Never judge too quickly without

knowing the truth
 Various rumors which caused
thirteen reasons
 People treated her differently without
knowing what truly happened
 Boys based their opinions on her
and the way they treated her on the
rumors they had heard. Just like
when the boy at Blue Spot smacked
her butt. He had no right to violate
her body, but because of this “list” he
felt he could do whatever he wanted
to her.
You Don’t Know Them…
 Just because you’ve heard the

rumors does not mean you know
the person. All you know is what
you’ve been told and didn’t your
mother tell you not to believe
everything you hear?
 Bryce took complete advantage of
Hannah’s mental instability the
night of the hot tub incident. He
thought he knew what Hannah
wanted because of the rumors, but
in reality he didn’t know she was
giving up. He was her last
chance, and he blew it.
Don’t Be a Bystander
 You don’t have to believe in rumors or

spread them to be a bystander. By not
helping when it is aware someone is
being hurt, you are being a bystander.
 When Hannah met with her
teacher, she could have been
persuaded to keep going with life.
Instead, he ignored her cries for help
and danced around her true problems.
He told her “to move on” which isn’t
what a suicidal person needed to
here, and in the end hindered more
than helped.
