BGC Contracting was awarded a $450 million contract to perform civil and earthworks for the Roy Hill Port landside development in Port Hedland, Western Australia from August 2013 to June 2015. The scope of work included clearing, grubbing, topsoil removal, ground improvement, construction of 5km of rail and road embankments, stockyard facilities, and site infrastructure over soft ground and tidal areas. Major tasks were to move 5.5 million cubic meters of earth, pour 45,000 cubic meters of concrete, install 6,000 meters of cast-in-situ piles, and mobilize a workforce of 500 people and heavy earthmoving equipment.
