Adam Chee - The Role of Big Data, BCM & Cloud in HealthcareHoi Lan Leong
Big data, cloud computing, and business continuity management (BCM) can help transform healthcare by enabling predictive analytics, maximizing asset utilization, and providing a foundation of availability. Healthcare data exists across the continuum of care but often in silos without interoperability. Cloud computing can help resolve physical interoperability issues, while standards help with syntactic interoperability. BCM is important for healthcare to ensure critical functions remain available. The role of these technologies is to revolutionize healthcare through increased efficiencies, better outcomes, and more personalized care.

In order to alleviate medical staff from time consuming manual labour, GoDataDriven and the cardiovascular department of the University Medical Center Groningen teamed up, to apply deep learning to MRI data for automated inpainting of the left- and right- heart chambers and the heart muscle. The deformation of the heart regions during a heart beat is indicative for deciding for a pacemaker, or assessing the outcome of medicine usage. Automating the image segmentation task and the extraction of characteristic metrics of the heart function would therefore be extremely useful.
We have implemented the deep U-net model that is used for image segmentation in Python and Keras, and deployed this in an API on Google Cloud Platform for large-scale usage. This work is part of a new ongoing initiative from GoDataDriven called ‘Medicx.ai,’ with which we strive to accelerate the data-driven way of working in the healthcare industry.

Reduction of Ultimate Strength due to Corrosion - A Finite Element Computatio...CSCJournals
Bridge safety is of paramount importance in transportation engineering and maintenance management. Corrosion causes strength deterioration and weakening of aged steel structures. Therefore, it is a vital task to estimate the remaining strength of corroded steel structures in order to assure the public safety. Due to the economic constraints and increase of number of steel highway and railway bridge structures, it will be an exigent task to conduct tests for each and every aged bridge structure within their bridge budgets. Therefore, this paper proposes a method of evaluating the residual strength capacities by numerical approach and compares the non-linear FEM analyses results with their respective tensile coupon tests. Further, since it is not easy to measure several thousands of points, to accurately reproduce the corroded surface by numerical methods and to predict their yield and ultimate behaviors, a simple and reliable analytical model is proposed by measuring the maximum corroded depth (tc,max), in order to estimate the remaining strength capacities of actual corroded members more precisely.

Artificial intelligence in Healthcare by Dr. Laila AzmiLaila Azmi Maqbool
Artificial intelligence has become an important topic in healthcare. AI can help improve preventative care and make people healthier. It allows for easier decision making by having a digital "friend" to assist. While human intelligence has advantages like creativity and emotion, AI offers benefits like high-speed information processing and built-in memory. AI can be applied in traditional and complementary medicine for tasks like lifestyle management, diagnostics, purification procedures, and herbal medication formulations. However, AI also faces challenges like concerns over job loss, an inability to provide human care and empathy, and issues around data privacy and security. Overall, AI has great potential to transform and improve many areas of healthcare if these challenges can be addressed.
