ANY LIGHT BANTER
BETWEEN CP JOSHI
& RATHORE?
CONGRESSMEN
STILL WAITING
FOR RAHUL’S VISIT
Jaipur: The Election
campaign is at its
peak in Rajasthan but
where is senior Congress
leader Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul has not come to
Rajasthan
since last
40 days.
Rahul last
came to
Jaipur on
23
September and ad-
dressed the workers’
conference in Mansar-
ovar. Since then,
Congressmen are still
waiting for Rahul’s visit.
Rebel BJP MLA
Chandrabhan Aakya
is contesting as an
independent after not
getting BJP ticket. There
was gossip in political
circles of some light banter
between CP Joshi &
Rajendra Rathore. But now
sources related to Joshi
denied any such incident.
“No such conversation took
place between Rathore &
CP, who is a simple
hearted person. Therefore
no question of quarreling
with anyone arises. This is
only a product of media,”
said sources.

NARPAT RAJVI ON CHITTORGARH SEAT!
Bikaner: In a big news related to Bikaner
politics, political friendship between former
minister Devi Singh Bhati and Union Minister Arjun
Meghwal has revived.
Devi Singh Bhati's
grandson and BJP
candidate Anshuman
Singh reached MP Seva
Kendra. Former head
Jaiveer Singh Hadla was
also present. He is meeting with Union Law Minister
Arjun Meghwal and after that meeting with Devi
Singh Bhati was also fixed. Actually, Rural District
President Jalam Singh Bhati played an important role
in this patchup. The enmity between the two leaders
was going on for a long time. Laxman Raghav
Chittorgarh: About why BJP rebel MLA Chandrab-
han Aakya didn’t get the party ticket from Chittor-
garh, informed sources reveal that Aakya’s ticket was
cut to ‘adjust’ Narpat S Rajvi, who has already contested
elections from Chittorgarh. When this time Rajvi could
not get the ticket from Vidyadhar Nagar in Jaipur, the
question arose, where should he be ‘adjusted’? It did not
seem appropriate to cut Rajvi’s ticket on the occasion of
the birth centenary of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat that is
why ticket was given to Rajvi on the old seat Chittorgarh.
Aakya is now contesting as an independent.

iwali or Deepav-
ali is the “festival
of lights.” One
reason why light
is so significant
in human life is the way our
visual apparatus is made. For
other creatures, light simply
means survival. But for a hu-
man being, light is not just
about seeing or not seeing. The
rising of light in our life signi-
fies a new beginning and,
above all, clarity. Most crea-
tures exist by instinct, so they
have no issues of confusion as
to what to do or not to do. A
young tiger never sits around
and asks itself, “Will I become
a good tiger, or will I end up as
a housecat?” If it just eats well,
it will become a good tiger.
You may be born as a human
being, but to become a good
human being, you have to do so
many things. And even then,
you still will not know where
you stand. In comparison, you
may think you are better than
someone else. But by yourself,
you do not know where you
stand. Human intelligence is
such that if you do not organize
it properly, it causes more con-
fusion and misery than those
creatures that have a millionth
of your brain will ever experi-
ence – they seem to be crystal
clear. An earthworm or insect
simply knows what to do and
what not to do – a human being
does not. It takes a certain intel-
ligence to be confused. Human
struggle is due to our own cer-
ebral capability.
Instead of being a tremen-
dous possibility, intelligence
has become a problem for a
whole lot of people. They may
give their suffering different
names, calling it stress, anxiety,
depression, madness, or mis-
ery. But essentially, it means
their intelligence has turned
against them. If you are suffer-
ing by yourself, without any-
one poking you, it means your
intelligence is working against
you. This being the nature of
human existence, clarity is of
supreme importance. That is
why light is important. Light
means clarity. Diwali is impor-
tant because it is a festival
dedicated to clarity, to bringing
down the murkiness in you.
On Diwali, you will see eve-
ry town, city and village is lit
up with thousands of lamps
everywhere. But the celebra-
tion is not just about lighting
lamps outside – an inner light
has to come. Light means clar-
ity. Without clarity, every other
quality that you possess will
only become a detriment, not a
gift, because confidence with-
out clarity is a disaster. And
today, too much action in the
world is performed without
clarity. On a certain day, a
rookie policeman was driving
for the first time through a
town with his experienced part-
ner. They got a message on the
radio, which said that there was
a group of people loitering on
a certain street, and were asked
to disperse them. They drove
into the street and saw a group
of people standing at one of the
corners. As the car came close
by, the new policeman rolled
his window down with great
enthusiasm and said, “Hey, all
of you. Get off that corner!”
The group looked at each other
in confusion. Then he yelled
louder, “Didn’t you hear me? I
told you to get off that damn
corner!” They all dispersed.
Then, pleased with the effect
that he had on people when
performing his first official
task, he looked at his experi-
enced partner and asked, “Did
I do well?” His partner said,
“Not bad at all, considering
that it was a bus stop.”
Without the necessary clari-
ty, whatever you try to do will
be a disaster. Light brings clar-
ity to your vision – not just in a
physical sense. How clearly
you see life and perceive eve-
rything around you decides
how sensibly you conduct your
life. Diwali is the day when the
dark forces were put to death
and light happened. This is also
the predicament of human life.
Like the dark clouds which
brood in the gloomy atmos-
phere, not realizing that they
are blocking the sun, a human
being does not have to bring
any light from anywhere. If he
just dispels the dark clouds that
he has allowed to gather within
himself, light will happen. The
Festival of Lights is just a re-
minder of that.
NON-SERIOUS BUT
ABSOLUTELY INVOLVED
If you approach everything in
a celebratory way, you learn to
be non-serious about life but
absolutely involved. The prob-
lem with most human beings
right now is, if they think
something is important, they
will become dead serious about
it. If they think it is not so im-
portant they will become lax
about it – they do not show the
necessary involvement. When
someone says, “He is in a very
serious condition,” that means
his next step is you know
where. A lot of people are in a
serious condition. There is only
one thing that is going to hap-
pen to them which is of any
significance. The rest will by-
pass them because with any-
thing that they think is not seri-
ous, they are unable to show
involvement and dedication.
That is the whole problem. The
secret of life is in just this –
seeing everything with a non-
serious eye, but absolutely in-
volved – like a game. That is
the reason the most profound
aspects of life are approached
in a celebratory way so that you
do not miss the point.
The idea of Diwali is to
bring that aspect of cel-
ebration into your life.

in a year. The idea behind
this was to make our whole
life into a celebration. Today,
maybe only thirty or forty
festivals remain. We are not
able to celebrate even those
now because we have to
go to office or do something
else daily. So, people usually
celebrate only around eight
or ten festivals annually. If
we leave it like this, the next
generation will not have any
festival. They will not know
what a festival is. They will
just earn and eat, earn and
eat – they will go on and on
with just this. It has already
become like this for many
people. A festival means they
give you a holiday, and you
wake up only at noon. Then
you just eat more, go for a
movie or watch television at
home. And only if they take
some external stimulants, will
these people dance a little.
Otherwise they will not sing
or dance. It was not like that
before. A festival meant that
the whole town would gather
in a place, and there would be
a big celebration. A festival
meant we got up at four in the
morning, and very actively,
lots of things happened all
over the house. To bring back
this culture in people, Isha
celebrates four important
festivals: Pongal or Makar
Sankranti, Mahashivratri,
Dussehra and Diwali.
LIFE AS A
CELEBRATION
I
LET THERE
BE LIGHT
Without the necessary
clarity, whatever you try to
do will be a disaster. Light
brings clarity to your vision
– not just in a physical
sense. How clearly you see
life and perceive everything
around you decides how
sensibly
you conduct your life.
Diwali is the day when the
dark forces were put to
death and light happened.
This is also the predica-
ment of human life. Like
the dark clouds which
brood in the gloomy atmos-
phere, not realizing that
they are blocking the sun,
a human being does not
have to bring any light from
anywhere. If he just dispels
the dark clouds that he has
allowed to gather within
himself, light will happen.
The Festival of Lights is
just a reminder of that.

FIRST INDIA SUNDAY SPECIAL

IS BJP TOP LEADERSHIP READY FOR CASTE CENSUS?
othing is permanent in politics.
BJP, which has always defied the
collective voices of Opposition on
caste census, has now decided to change
its strategy. Congress has continuously
raised the demand for OBC rights and caste
census, especially Rahul Gandhi has con-
nected its ends and has also prepared a
road map for the 2024 elections. So, to delay
Rahul's decision, BJP top leadership may
agree to conduct caste census in the winter
session of Parliament and most importantly,
its report can also come in just three months
i.e. by February. BJP top leadership plans
to put a twist in it i.e. sub-caste census can
also be included in the caste census. BJP's
own estimate is that 'it can get the benefit of
division among the main castes in the elec-
tions of 2014.' For example, keeping in mind
the dominance of Yadav votes in Bihar, BJP
has nominated Nand
Kishore Yadav, Ram
Kripal Yadav, Nityanand.
Many Yadav leaders
like Rai were always
given preference, but the
Yadavs of Bihar considered Lalu Yadav and
his family as their leader. For example, BJP
wants that ‘in states like Bihar-UP, Yadav
sub-castes should also be identified and
brought to the fore, so that there can be a rift
in the Yadav vote bank.'
N
‘MAT CHUKE
CHAUHAN’
he words of
Shivraj Singh
Chouhan,
who made BJP’s senior
Chanakya and Chandragup-
ta learn the political lesson
by heart, are different.
There were preparations to
‘cut him to size’, but no mat-
ter how the wind changed
in the state, Shivraj’s
helicopter
was not stop-
ping. Early in
the morn-
ing, Shivraj
leaves for the
election cam-
paign in his
helicopter. He takes the BJP
candidate whose meeting is
to be held with him, under-
stands the mathematics and
geography of the area on
the way and in his speech
talks about the same lo-
cal issues. The meeting
ends, the candidate from
the place where the next
meeting is to be held now
stands beside Shivraj, then
the story replays. Seeing
their candidate landing
from the CM’s helicopter,
the general public gets
overwhelmed that ‘Our
leader is so close to the
CM, if we win, he will defi-
nitely become a minister.’
And the same script is
repeated again and again.
Due to this, in Shivraj’s
meetings, crowd also gath-
ers and enthusiasm remains
among the people.
T
elhi is preparing to gnaw on TMC MP
Mahua Moitra and the Ethics Committee
has submitted its report to the Lok Sabha
Speaker in the ‘Cash for Query’ case. Mahua has
also prepared to challenge this report in the Su-
preme Court. In response to this, the govt supporters
say that ‘It is clearly mentioned in Article 122 of the
Constitution that the court cannot investigate the
proceedings of the Parliament so she cannot chal-
lenge the proceedings taken here in the court.’ But
in the recent times, these accepted traditions have
been openly violated. The decision of the Speaker in
Maharashtra Assembly has been challenged in the
court and soon the court is going to give its decision
in this matter. So, Mahua has also almost decided
that ‘if the Speaker’s decision is unfavorable in her
case, she will challenge it in the Supreme Court.’
Anyway, the leaders of the opposition parties who
were part of the Ethics Committee claim that in just
two and a half minutes the report was approved, but
the committee members were not even heard. In this
report, it has been said that Mahua took cash and
gifts from time to time. Sources claim that industrial-
ist Darshan Hiranandani, who made this allegation
against Mahua, did not appear before the commit-
tee, rather BJP MP from Godda Nishikant Dubey
appeared with Hiranandani’s affidavit and replied
on his behalf. By the way, according to the law,
Darshan should have told when and where he gave
this money to Mahua. When the Speaker orders,
CBI and ED will attack Mahua.

It is said in Delhi Con-
gress circles that Ashok
Gehlot works as a paral-
lel Congress President
while staying in Jaipur.
What do you think about
this claim?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra:
Absolutely. He does not
only get decision regard-
ing Rajasthan done from
Jaipur, but he gets deci-
sions on other states done
too. He is de-facto Mall-
ikarjun Kharge. Rather I
would go on to say that
he is more powerful than
Kharge. He is more ar-
ticulate than Kharge.
What you have said has
been said in the past as
well thatAshok Gehlot is
in a role of a parallel
Congress President.
If Congress does form
government in Ra-
jasthan post election,
then who will lead the
government as Chief
Minister?
See, for the past fifteen
years since I have been
part of the media, I have
always been saying that
in Rajasthan, Congress
means Gehlot and till
the time Gehlot is alive,
by God’s grace, Gehlot
will always be the CM.
And this has come true
till now. In spite of the
rebellion of September
25, Gehlot continued to
remain CM. Now the
question is who will be
CM if the government is
formed now? My belief
is that if Congress be-
comes successful in
forming government,
then Gehlot will be
Chief Minister.
What was Sachin Pi-
lot’s role in this entire
ticket distribution? Was
he satisfied with the can-
didates fielded? Has the
Gehlot-Pilot conundrum
finally got solved?
There is a senior journal-
ist Sanjeev Srivastav
who says that their is-
sues have not ended
rather on the surface
there has been an under-
standing. Both the lead-
ers have got tickets for
their supporters. Pilot
has got about two dozen
tickets for his supporters
which has been a face-
saving for him Gehlot
gave ninety percent tick-
ets to his supporters.
Well as far as their tussle
is concerned, that will
come to light when there
is a chance of getting
power. As of now there
is no power with either
of the leaders and when
after election, if situa-
tion becomes that Con-
gress may come to pow-
er, then the real power
struggle will start and it
will be known if their is-
sues have been settled. It
will be premature to say
that today.
But still Pilot camp
and high command
sources stress that if
Congress goes on to
form government, then
Sachin Pilot may be the
Chief Minister.
They have been thinking
on these lines but this de-
velopment does not
come to pass. In fact
there came a time when
preparations were made
for swearing in, but it did
not come to pass. I have
heard that in these past
five years. Promises
were made. Although
Priyanka Gandhi says
that Sachin was never
promised CM’s chair but
was told that the high
command will take care
of him. Perhaps others
thought this was meant
about CM’s chair. So
what will happen now in
the assurances given to
Pilot will be known on
the day government is
formed but the most im-
portant aspect is that Pi-
lot’s horoscope should
also be right. He came
close to being CM twice.
Once was when he re-
belled at his group
reached Manesar but at
the last minute Ahmed
Patel came as a heaven
sent angel for Gehlot and
took three Pilot support-
ers with him. Had those
three not backed out, Pi-
lot would have become
CM. His horoscope
would reveal that in spite
of high command’s
blessings if he can, or if
Gehlot surrenders, which
to me does not seem to
be happening because
then he could say that
2024 election are round
the corner hence he
should be made CM to
project Congress’trust in
leaders. But even if he
surrenders, does Pilot’s
horoscope say that he
will become CM? I be-
lieve that if such a situa-
tion arises, and Ashok
Gehlot gives his resigna-
tion under an emotional
environment in favour of
Pilot, then too he would
establish a mechanism
that Pilot does not be-
come CM rather some
other should become.
Definitely, Pilot has
waited for a long time
and he is young and the
new generation should
be given a chance, but at
least his horoscope
should also reflect some-
thing positive for him.
Similarly, Gehlot’s horo-
scope should also hint at
forming government and
Congress should come
out victories only then
will all these variables
will come into play and
hence there will be a sus-
picion on this question
over Pilot.
You said that if the
Congress government
comes then Ashok Ge-
hlot will be the Chief
Minister. But suppose
that Congress govern-
ment came and for some
reason he was not given
the role of Chief Minis-
ter, then what would be
the role of Gehlot?
Then see, one thing will
happen that he will have
to go to Delhi. And this
means that it is natural
that the post of General
Secretary is kept for him,
perhaps he should be ap-
pointed in place of Venu-
gopal and given the
charge of Treasure. But I
think the bigger thing is
that he could have be-
come the Congress
President. But Kharge
has gone much further
and is handling issues
like Opposition Unity
and India Alliance.
But if such a situation
arises, then Ashok Ge-
hlot can be the Prime
Ministerial face of Con-
gress. The reason is that
Rahul Gandhi is a reluc-
tant bride and even if the
party asks him, he will
say that no, I am not
ready to take any direct
responsibility. So, the fu-
ture of Ashok Gehlot in
Congress is that in that
situation, he will be So-
nia Gandhi’s eyes and
ears in Delhi and his
mind will be focused on
Rajasthan too. He will
come here a few days a
week and he will be the
backward class face of
Congress for the post of
Prime Minister.
What do you feel that
after what happened
on August 25, 2022
and Gehlot did not be-
come Congress Presi-
dent, was he right in do-
ing so or is his
current
role bet-
ter?
My assessment is that it
was a strategic mistake
of Ashok Gehlot. He
should have opted for
party presidency. At that
time Rahul Gandhi’s
Bharat Jodo Yatra was
going on. If at that time,
Ashok Gehlot had be-
come the President, Ra-
hul Gandhi, KC Venugo-
pal, Priyanka and others
would have walked in
theYatra passing through
Rajasthan, then you can
imagine the added en-
thusiasm would the Con-
gress workers have had
in their journey! In the
mind of any Congress
worker, becoming the
President of the party is
the epitome. So he
should not have lost the
opportunity either in the
conflict with Pilot or in
the allurement of the
post of Chief Minister,
but he lost it. And again,
he was the most loyal
leader of the party, and
loyal to Sonia Gandhi.
No one could have ex-
pected that when Ashok
Gehlot was the CLP
leader, there could be a
rebellion in the team and
a rebellion against the
orders of the high com-
mand. And Ashok Ge-
hlot himself went and
said that Madam, I am
sorry and it was my re-
sponsibility because I
was the leader and I
could not get it done.
Even on the day the re-
bellion was taking place,
Ashok Gehlot told Ma-
hesh Joshi at 1 o’clock in
the night that everything
is fine but what would
Sonia ji be thinking? So
they had a relationship of
trust and confidence? It
was broken once.
Whether it was restored
later is a different matter.
Sonia’s confidence was
so much that when all
this happened andAshok
Gehlot came apologiz-
ing, he was still offered
the opportunity to be-
come the President.
Someone told me that at
8:30, then at 11:30
and then at
1:30 the
high Com-
m a n d
p h o n e d
G e h l o t
and said
l e a v e
whatever
h a p -
p e n e d ,
come to
D e l h i
and become the Presi-
dent. But he did not like
it. But today I can say
that if the government is
not formed, and Ashok
Gehlot would mull on
this aspect, he may come
to conclusion that it
would have been better if
he had gone somewhere
else, then neither would
he be accused of rebel-
lion or breach of trust.
The only thing that re-
mains is that he remained
the Chief Minister for
one and a half years. I
said that revenge is the
cause of death. Their
people have such a
strong sense of venge-
ance against Pilot and the
feeling of enmity be-
tween the two camps is
so great that they felt that
if he was no longer the
Chief Minister, his sup-
porters would absolutely
come to ransom. So all
those supporters ran to
Gehlot’s house and cre-
ated pressure that some-
thing bad may happen.
So all of them went and
explained to Gehlot.
Otherwise there was a
moment when Ashok
Gehlot had called Ma-
hesh Joshi and said that
if you have received a
call from Delhi, then
make a proposal of one
or two lines that you trust
the command. But the
supporters who were
afraid of Pilot got this
decision changed. So I
believe that it would
have been better if Ge-
hlot had become the
party president. Now
who can read the destiny,
so let’s see.
So if BJP government
is formed in the State,
who will be the contend-
er for the CM’s chair?
This is a relevant ques-
tion since majority of
surveys are saying that
BJP will come back to
power. As far as CM is
concerned, the natural
choice in this party was
Vasundhara Raje. I have
used the word ‘was’ in
addressing this question
in relation to Raje. Had it
been the case that she
would have been project-
ed and contest would
have been fought on Nar-
endra Modi’s face and
Amit Shah’s strategy,
then the chances of win-
ning the elections would
have been more. Al-
though BJP is claiming
that it will get 140 seats.
So Raje would have be-
come CM as natural
choice. However, as of
today and according to
the prevailing situation,
Raje is not the front run-
ner for CM. As of today,
Gajendra Singh Shekha-
wat is the choice for CM
and I have been saying
this for the past four
years that the high com-
mand has groomed him
over these years for Ra-
jasthan as shadow Chief
Minister or as leader of
opposition. And second-
ly, as far as Raje is con-
cerned, it is high com-
mand’s policy decision
that they have replace old
guards with second gen-
eration. They are looking
for leaders that are young
who can rule for 10-15
years and Shekhawat
falls in that bracket. But
if one has to name one
can name Ashwini
Vaishnaw, or Arjun Ram
Meghwal or Diya Ku-
mariorRajendraRathore.
But I believe that Shek-
hawat is the natural con-
tender who has been
groomed by the party for
four years.

zWill Gehlot form his
government in Ra-
jasthan once again and
fulfil his wishes of be-
coming CM for the
fourth time?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra:
Today Will Gehlot form
government and become
CM for the fourth time is
a question, whose answer
will be known only on
December 3, but it is cer-
tain that, as of this mo-
ment, Gehlot is totally
confident that he will
form the government. It
is his analysis that as of
now, Congress has
around 82 seats within
the next week or ten
days, the situation will
change, such is their
claim, and that the Con-
gress will touch the 100
seats required. But the
betting market and the
surveys are terming it to
be BJP’s victory. Pha-
laudi betting market is
claiming that it would be
120-130 seats in favour
of BJP and Congress
would be around 65-70
seats. Apart from that
ABP, India Today and
other similar institutions
have done surveys, which
say that BJP would get
anywhere between 115-
125 seats and Congress
would be between 62 to
85. Gehlot’s analysis is
also on the same lines.
There is only one survey
in the nation that has
claimed that Congress
would get around 110
seats and BJP would get
about 82 seats and that
institution claims that it
had done survey in Kar-
nataka and said that Con-
gress would get 135 seats
which proved to be true.
They had said Congress
would get 45 seats in
Himachal and Congress
got 40 seats. Hence, they
are hopeful that Congress
government will be
formed in Rajasthan. But
the majority of surveys
hint at BJP government.
But perhaps the most im-
portant parameter of this
election and if Gehlot
will form government
again is if this election is
being fought on the face
of sitting legislators or on
Ashok Gehlot’s face. If it
is being contested in the
face of MLAs, then any-
thing can happen and
Congress can get stuck at
40 odd seats too. The rea-
son for this is that there is
immense anger and dis-
gruntlement against
MLAs because there are
complaints of interfer-
ence in transfers of Pat-
waris, Collectors, SHOs
and SPs, interference in
routine administration,
corruption complaints
and thus it is being said
that during this govern-
ment, legislators had
been behaving like re-
gional CMs and even CM
himself was compelled
and although he too ac-
cepted that it was not
right, but what could be
done, it was his political
compulsion. There were
two problems. Firstly, he
had to keep the flock to-
gether so that they do not
shift to the Pilot camp
and secondly, he had to
send money to AICC as
well like any other CM
for any other party. Due
to both the reasons, the
administration was hit in
the field. In fact, Gehlot’s
own slogan of good gov-
ernance was hit and I can
bet on it that when he
would sit at night and
mull on things, he must
feel sad on the situation.
So let’s see what happens
in the days to come.
zWhy does Sonia Gan-
dhi have so much trust
on Ashok Gehlot? Why
did she give complete
free hand to him in ticket
distribution?
The trust is there because
of an emotional bond
since the time of Rajiv
Gandhi as she considers
him like family. Truth be
told, the trust Sonia Gan-
dhi has on Gehlot is more
than she has on Rahul
and Priyanka, the situa-
tion says so. Look at the
developments on Sep-
tember 25, all his crimes
were forgiven. It hap-
pened in Jaipur and in a
way, we can say that it
was a rebellion of sorts
when High Command’s
orders were not followed.
When Maken left Ge-
hlot’s residence, he had
to call up Sonia Gandhi
and apologise for being
unable to get the state
unit to follow High Com-
mand’s directive. He
merely had to take a one-
line proposal that the
state unit gives all rights
to the High Command on
selection of new Chief
Minister i.e. Pilot’s chris-
tening. But that couldn’t
happen and look at the
time since then, Ashok
Gehlot is secured at his
place. He apologised and
everything ended. So,
Gehlot and Sonia’s rela-
tion is beyond decoding
and perhaps that is why
some people say that
there may be a secret un-
derstanding between the
two that if push comes to
shove, she will always
stand behind Gehlot.
zAmong his three trust-
ed lieutenants, why
could Gehlot get ticket
only for Dhariwal and
not the other two as well
i.e. Mahesh Joshi and
Dharmendra Rathore?
Do you think Gehlot did
not use his veto for both
of them?
See, veto is not used for
everyone. Veto itself
means for one and for the
remaining individuals
recommendations can be
made. There is word in
political circles that since
Dhariwal’s candidature
was kind of like prestige
point for Gehlot, there
may have been some deal
of-sorts that has been
made. But Gehlot estab-
lished his credibility by
getting a ticket for Dhari-
wal and gave message
that he is the ‘Boss.’Dha-
riwal’s situation is differ-
ent from these two. The
Screening Committee
had recommended giving
ticket to Dhariwal at the
initial stage, but Dhari-
wal was not ready to con-
test. He wanted that tick-
et be given to his son, but
Gogoi said that ticket
will not be given to sons
or relatives, although at a
later stage they did give.
After this, the Screening
committee meeting hap-
pened and perhaps some
individuals, may be from
Pilot camp, complained
to Sonia Gandhi that
Dhariwal’s ticket has not
been cut. So just as the
candidature was dis-
cussed, Sonia asked if
‘he is the same man’.
Then after multiple ses-
sions and deliberations,
Gehlot came out to be the
ultimate winner and Dha-
riwal was given ticket.
As far as the remaining
two are concerned, they
are Gehlot’s trusted lieu-
tenants and were there in
the September 25 rebel-
lion, but this time around,
Gehlot could see through
Dhariwal only and not
the other two.
zSo what is Mahesh
Joshi and Dharmendra
Rathore’s future in Con-
gress because there was
word that Joshi could
join BJP also?
Discussion was held on
Joshi joining BJP, but it
was not to be, perhaps
over some conditions
that he may have had.
See, Joshi is a loyalist in-
dividual. He is loyal to
Gehlot, is a calm and col-
lected person and takes
everyone along. This
time around, some situa-
tions arose and cases
happened that the matter
went out of hand.And the
three men, Dhariwal,
Joshi and Rathore, who
were considered accused
of rebellion, one of them,
Dhariwal, was let go and
these two were not. But
now I do not think that he
will be heading to BJP
since its too late now. So
what next then? If Gehlot
comes back to power,
then he would be reha-
bilitated. As far as Dhar-
mendra Rathore is con-
cerned, it does not matter
to him, if he has not been
fielded since he is Ge-
hlot’s ‘Hanuman’ and
when Gehlot comes to
power, Rathore always
shines. He is Gehlot loy-
alist and is executioner
for him. So, I see their
rise with Gehlot’s rise.
zQuestions were raised
on Assembly Speaker Dr
CP Joshi during the re-
bellion. What is your
take on it?
It was not during the re-
bellion but during the
discussions on ticket dis-
tribution when question
was raised on fielding
Dhariwal, Joshi and
Rathore. During that
time, some individuals
made themselves heard
before the High Com-
mand, albeit in a hushed
manner, that these three
were identified but there
was a fourth individual
also. When the High
Command enquired, it
was told that the strategy
to give resignations, as
part of rebellion, was
forged at Dr CP Joshi’s
residence and when they
could not understand
what could be done, they
approached CP Joshi and
it was him who showed
them the way forward.
This was the complaint
that was made before the
High Command. How-
ever, CP Joshi’s image is
a credible image and he
has his own individuality
before the High Com-
mand. It is believed that
he is a powerful speaker
that he wouldn’t have
done so. Thus, Joshi re-
ceived the benefit of
doubt. Interestingly, Ge-
hlot has even announced
that Joshi is his natural
ally if he becomes CM
the next time, he will
make CP the Assembly
Speaker yet again.
zIt is said that Rahul
and his team had decid-
ed on cutting 50 percent
tickets of sitting MLAs,
but it did not happen.
How did Gehlot get So-
nia to overturn this deci-
sion of Rahul’s?
It is true that a decision
was made based on sur-
veys that ticket of half of
sitting legislators would
be cut. In the beginning,
the party was of the
thought that since there
were several complaints
against the legislators
and there was immense
anti-incumbency against
MLAs, thus, they should
not be fielded. Therefore,
half the tickets were to be
cut. Hence out of 113,
half of the tickets were to
be cut, but it didn’t hap-
pen and merely two doz-
en tickets were cut. So
the question is why did
the Party not cut tickets?
When CEC met, Rahul
Gandhi saw the list and
said that this is the same
old list and questioned
the motive behind hold-
ing the meeting and dis-
cussing it. So, Rahul was
of the idea that tickets
must be cut. Any ways,
that meeting was can-
celled and rescheduled
after which Gehlot
brought a new theory
saying that there is lack
of good candidates in the
field and there may be a
rebellion as well. Rahul
Gandhi was convinced
with Gehlot;s word and
said that if we have to
loose, then we may con-
test the same leaders.
This would also mean
that if we lose then the
gap of votes would be
less. Moreover, I have
said in the past too that
when tickets are stalled
till last moment, those
tickets are given by Ge-
hlot only. This is because
his home work is so
strong that if any issue
comes up, then that seat
ultimately goes in Ge-
hlot’s kitty only. So now,
the question is who actu-
ally dominated the ticket
distribution? Rahul Gan-
dhi and a few others
asked for certain MLAs
to be given ticket, but on
the contrary, the ticket of
all these MLAs were cut.
As far asAshok Gehlot is
concerned, he has his
own mathematics regard-
ing politics. I would go
on to say that after Amit
shah, if there is another
leader who is the second
most successful Home
Minister too, it would be
Ashok Gehlot since he
also has the Home port-
folio. His intelligence
and surveillance system
is at par with Amit Shah
and I feel that if he had
been in BJP, he would
have been a major part of
Modi-Shah team. So on
the basis of that intelli-
gence team, Gehlot won
against Pilot. So as far as
cutting tickets is con-
cerned, ultimately ‘mag-
ic’ happened!

As parents to our pets, it is
our duty to make them feel
secure and comfortable dur-
ing the festive season. Some
simple tips can be a big help.
Provide a safe and quiet
place- a room or a crate will
also do, you can keep it in the
bathroom if there is no other
area. Put on a dim night light,
windows and doors closed,
keep their food and water
bowls and their blanket and
bedding plus a favourite toy.
Go to them occasionally to
pet them and give them a treat
or two, lest they get anxious.
Keep them away from
lights and crackers, it can be
dangerous. If your pet is very
excited and anxious, ensure
that they do not leave home
as they might get lost in run-
ning away, in extreme cases,
ask your vet for a calming
device for the pet in advance.
Finish the evening walk on
festive days before the sun
sets.
Also, be as compassionate
for street dogs. If they take
refuge in your garden or be-
low your car, allow them.
Post the name and number of
your local animal welfare
Helpline in the colony and
friends Whats-app groups, so
that in case anyone sees a hurt
street animal, they can imme-
diately call for help. We, the
humans, are supposed to be

CONGRESSMEN STILL WAITING FOR RAHUL’S VISIT Jaipur: The Election campaign is at its peak in Rajasthan but where is senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Rahul has not come to Rajasthan since last 40 days. Rahul last came to Jaipur on 23 September and ad- dressed the workers’ conference in Mansar- ovar. Since then, Congressmen are still waiting for Rahul’s visit. Rebel BJP MLA Chandrabhan Aakya is contesting as an independent after not getting BJP ticket. There was gossip in political circles of some light banter between CP Joshi & Rajendra Rathore. But now sources related to Joshi denied any such incident. “No such conversation took place between Rathore & CP, who is a simple hearted person. Therefore no question of quarreling with anyone arises. This is only a product of media,” said sources. DEVI SINGH BHATI & ARJUN MEGHWAL REVIVE FRIENDSHIP, JOIN HANDS! AAKYA’S TICKET WAS CUT TO ‘ADJUST’ NARPAT RAJVI ON CHITTORGARH SEAT! Bikaner: In a big news related to Bikaner politics, political friendship between former minister Devi Singh Bhati and Union Minister Arjun Meghwal has revived. Devi Singh Bhati's grandson and BJP candidate Anshuman Singh reached MP Seva Kendra. Former head Jaiveer Singh Hadla was also present. He is meeting with Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal and after that meeting with Devi Singh Bhati was also fixed. Actually, Rural District President Jalam Singh Bhati played an important role in this patchup. The enmity between the two leaders was going on for a long time. Laxman Raghav Chittorgarh: About why BJP rebel MLA Chandrab- han Aakya didn’t get the party ticket from Chittor- garh, informed sources reveal that Aakya’s ticket was cut to ‘adjust’ Narpat S Rajvi, who has already contested elections from Chittorgarh. When this time Rajvi could not get the ticket from Vidyadhar Nagar in Jaipur, the question arose, where should he be ‘adjusted’? It did not seem appropriate to cut Rajvi’s ticket on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat that is why ticket was given to Rajvi on the old seat Chittorgarh. Aakya is now contesting as an independent. PM Modi during his public meeting in Udaipur had accused Cong govt of sympathising with terror- ists. “Rajasthan has be- come a model state in the last five years and the Prime Minister is afraid and troubled by it. Be- cause the PM is not left with any other issue, that’s why ED and CBI are sent,” said Ramesh. • 4. iwali or Deepav- ali is the “festival of lights.” One reason why light is so significant in human life is the way our visual apparatus is made. For other creatures, light simply means survival. But for a hu- man being, light is not just about seeing or not seeing. The rising of light in our life signi- fies a new beginning and, above all, clarity. Most crea- tures exist by instinct, so they have no issues of confusion as to what to do or not to do. A young tiger never sits around and asks itself, “Will I become a good tiger, or will I end up as a housecat?” If it just eats well, it will become a good tiger. You may be born as a human being, but to become a good human being, you have to do so many things. And even then, you still will not know where you stand. In comparison, you may think you are better than someone else. But by yourself, you do not know where you stand. Human intelligence is such that if you do not organize it properly, it causes more con- fusion and misery than those creatures that have a millionth of your brain will ever experi- ence – they seem to be crystal clear. An earthworm or insect simply knows what to do and what not to do – a human being does not. It takes a certain intel- ligence to be confused. Human struggle is due to our own cer- ebral capability. Instead of being a tremen- dous possibility, intelligence has become a problem for a whole lot of people. They may give their suffering different names, calling it stress, anxiety, depression, madness, or mis- ery. But essentially, it means their intelligence has turned against them. If you are suffer- ing by yourself, without any- one poking you, it means your intelligence is working against you. This being the nature of human existence, clarity is of supreme importance. That is why light is important. Light means clarity. Diwali is impor- tant because it is a festival dedicated to clarity, to bringing down the murkiness in you. On Diwali, you will see eve- ry town, city and village is lit up with thousands of lamps everywhere. But the celebra- tion is not just about lighting lamps outside – an inner light has to come. Light means clar- ity. Without clarity, every other quality that you possess will only become a detriment, not a gift, because confidence with- out clarity is a disaster. And today, too much action in the world is performed without clarity. On a certain day, a rookie policeman was driving for the first time through a town with his experienced part- ner. They got a message on the radio, which said that there was a group of people loitering on a certain street, and were asked to disperse them. They drove into the street and saw a group of people standing at one of the corners. As the car came close by, the new policeman rolled his window down with great enthusiasm and said, “Hey, all of you. Get off that corner!” The group looked at each other in confusion. Then he yelled louder, “Didn’t you hear me? I told you to get off that damn corner!” They all dispersed. Then, pleased with the effect that he had on people when performing his first official task, he looked at his experi- enced partner and asked, “Did I do well?” His partner said, “Not bad at all, considering that it was a bus stop.” Without the necessary clari- ty, whatever you try to do will be a disaster. Light brings clar- ity to your vision – not just in a physical sense. How clearly you see life and perceive eve- rything around you decides how sensibly you conduct your life. Diwali is the day when the dark forces were put to death and light happened. This is also the predicament of human life. Like the dark clouds which brood in the gloomy atmos- phere, not realizing that they are blocking the sun, a human being does not have to bring any light from anywhere. If he just dispels the dark clouds that he has allowed to gather within himself, light will happen. The Festival of Lights is just a re- minder of that. NON-SERIOUS BUT ABSOLUTELY INVOLVED If you approach everything in a celebratory way, you learn to be non-serious about life but absolutely involved. The prob- lem with most human beings right now is, if they think something is important, they will become dead serious about it. If they think it is not so im- portant they will become lax about it – they do not show the necessary involvement. When someone says, “He is in a very serious condition,” that means his next step is you know where. A lot of people are in a serious condition. There is only one thing that is going to hap- pen to them which is of any significance. The rest will by- pass them because with any- thing that they think is not seri- ous, they are unable to show involvement and dedication. That is the whole problem. The secret of life is in just this – seeing everything with a non- serious eye, but absolutely in- volved – like a game. That is the reason the most profound aspects of life are approached in a celebratory way so that you do not miss the point. The idea of Diwali is to bring that aspect of cel- ebration into your life. SOURCE: WE CONVEY OUR GRATITUDE TO ISHA FOUNDATION (HTTPS://ISHA. SADHGURU.ORG/) FOR ENRICHING ARTICLE Sadhguru The writer is Yogi, Mystic, Visionary & Founder of Isha Foundation D SIGNIFICANCE OFDIWALI The secret of life is in just this — seeing everything with a non-serious eye, but absolutely involved — like a game THE n the Indian culture, there was a time when there used to be a festival every day of the year – 365 festivals in a year. The idea behind this was to make our whole life into a celebration. Today, maybe only thirty or forty festivals remain. We are not able to celebrate even those now because we have to go to office or do something else daily. So, people usually celebrate only around eight or ten festivals annually. If we leave it like this, the next generation will not have any festival. They will not know what a festival is. They will just earn and eat, earn and eat – they will go on and on with just this. It has already become like this for many people. A festival means they give you a holiday, and you wake up only at noon. Then you just eat more, go for a movie or watch television at home. And only if they take some external stimulants, will these people dance a little. Otherwise they will not sing or dance. It was not like that before. A festival meant that the whole town would gather in a place, and there would be a big celebration. A festival meant we got up at four in the morning, and very actively, lots of things happened all over the house. To bring back this culture in people, Isha celebrates four important festivals: Pongal or Makar Sankranti, Mahashivratri, Dussehra and Diwali. LIFE AS A CELEBRATION I LET THERE BE LIGHT Without the necessary clarity, whatever you try to do will be a disaster. Light brings clarity to your vision – not just in a physical sense. How clearly you see life and perceive everything around you decides how sensibly you conduct your life. Diwali is the day when the dark forces were put to death and light happened. This is also the predica- ment of human life. Like the dark clouds which brood in the gloomy atmos- phere, not realizing that they are blocking the sun, a human being does not have to bring any light from anywhere. If he just dispels the dark clouds that he has allowed to gather within himself, light will happen. ANI WILL MAHUA BE EVICTED FROM THE HOUSE? By Tridib Raman The author is a journalist and political commentator and views expressed are his personal FIRST INDIA SUNDAY SPECIAL Mirch Masala IS BJP TOP LEADERSHIP READY FOR CASTE CENSUS? othing is permanent in politics. BJP, which has always defied the collective voices of Opposition on caste census, has now decided to change its strategy. Congress has continuously raised the demand for OBC rights and caste census, especially Rahul Gandhi has con- nected its ends and has also prepared a road map for the 2024 elections. So, to delay Rahul's decision, BJP top leadership may agree to conduct caste census in the winter session of Parliament and most importantly, its report can also come in just three months i.e. by February. BJP top leadership plans to put a twist in it i.e. sub-caste census can also be included in the caste census. BJP's own estimate is that 'it can get the benefit of division among the main castes in the elec- tions of 2014.' For example, keeping in mind the dominance of Yadav votes in Bihar, BJP has nominated Nand Kishore Yadav, Ram Kripal Yadav, Nityanand. Many Yadav leaders like Rai were always given preference, but the Yadavs of Bihar considered Lalu Yadav and his family as their leader. For example, BJP wants that ‘in states like Bihar-UP, Yadav sub-castes should also be identified and brought to the fore, so that there can be a rift in the Yadav vote bank.' N ‘MAT CHUKE CHAUHAN’ he words of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who made BJP’s senior Chanakya and Chandragup- ta learn the political lesson by heart, are different. There were preparations to ‘cut him to size’, but no mat- ter how the wind changed in the state, Shivraj’s helicopter was not stop- ping. Early in the morn- ing, Shivraj leaves for the election cam- paign in his helicopter. He takes the BJP candidate whose meeting is to be held with him, under- stands the mathematics and geography of the area on the way and in his speech talks about the same lo- cal issues. The meeting ends, the candidate from the place where the next meeting is to be held now stands beside Shivraj, then the story replays. Seeing their candidate landing from the CM’s helicopter, the general public gets overwhelmed that ‘Our leader is so close to the CM, if we win, he will defi- nitely become a minister.’ And the same script is repeated again and again. Due to this, in Shivraj’s meetings, crowd also gath- ers and enthusiasm remains among the people. T elhi is preparing to gnaw on TMC MP Mahua Moitra and the Ethics Committee has submitted its report to the Lok Sabha Speaker in the ‘Cash for Query’ case. Mahua has also prepared to challenge this report in the Su- preme Court. In response to this, the govt supporters say that ‘It is clearly mentioned in Article 122 of the Constitution that the court cannot investigate the proceedings of the Parliament so she cannot chal- lenge the proceedings taken here in the court.’ But in the recent times, these accepted traditions have been openly violated. The decision of the Speaker in Maharashtra Assembly has been challenged in the court and soon the court is going to give its decision in this matter. So, Mahua has also almost decided that ‘if the Speaker’s decision is unfavorable in her case, she will challenge it in the Supreme Court.’ Anyway, the leaders of the opposition parties who were part of the Ethics Committee claim that in just two and a half minutes the report was approved, but the committee members were not even heard. In this report, it has been said that Mahua took cash and gifts from time to time. Sources claim that industrial- ist Darshan Hiranandani, who made this allegation against Mahua, did not appear before the commit- tee, rather BJP MP from Godda Nishikant Dubey appeared with Hiranandani’s affidavit and replied on his behalf. By the way, according to the law, Darshan should have told when and where he gave this money to Mahua. When the Speaker orders, CBI and ED will attack Mahua. • 9. It is said in Delhi Con- gress circles that Ashok Gehlot works as a paral- lel Congress President while staying in Jaipur. What do you think about this claim? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Absolutely. He does not only get decision regard- ing Rajasthan done from Jaipur, but he gets deci- sions on other states done too. He is de-facto Mall- ikarjun Kharge. Rather I would go on to say that he is more powerful than Kharge. He is more ar- ticulate than Kharge. What you have said has been said in the past as well thatAshok Gehlot is in a role of a parallel Congress President. If Congress does form government in Ra- jasthan post election, then who will lead the government as Chief Minister? See, for the past fifteen years since I have been part of the media, I have always been saying that in Rajasthan, Congress means Gehlot and till the time Gehlot is alive, by God’s grace, Gehlot will always be the CM. And this has come true till now. In spite of the rebellion of September 25, Gehlot continued to remain CM. Now the question is who will be CM if the government is formed now? My belief is that if Congress be- comes successful in forming government, then Gehlot will be Chief Minister. What was Sachin Pi- lot’s role in this entire ticket distribution? Was he satisfied with the can- didates fielded? Has the Gehlot-Pilot conundrum finally got solved? There is a senior journal- ist Sanjeev Srivastav who says that their is- sues have not ended rather on the surface there has been an under- standing. Both the lead- ers have got tickets for their supporters. Pilot has got about two dozen tickets for his supporters which has been a face- saving for him Gehlot gave ninety percent tick- ets to his supporters. Well as far as their tussle is concerned, that will come to light when there is a chance of getting power. As of now there is no power with either of the leaders and when after election, if situa- tion becomes that Con- gress may come to pow- er, then the real power struggle will start and it will be known if their is- sues have been settled. It will be premature to say that today. But still Pilot camp and high command sources stress that if Congress goes on to form government, then Sachin Pilot may be the Chief Minister. They have been thinking on these lines but this de- velopment does not come to pass. In fact there came a time when preparations were made for swearing in, but it did not come to pass. I have heard that in these past five years. Promises were made. Although Priyanka Gandhi says that Sachin was never promised CM’s chair but was told that the high command will take care of him. Perhaps others thought this was meant about CM’s chair. So what will happen now in the assurances given to Pilot will be known on the day government is formed but the most im- portant aspect is that Pi- lot’s horoscope should also be right. He came close to being CM twice. Once was when he re- belled at his group reached Manesar but at the last minute Ahmed Patel came as a heaven sent angel for Gehlot and took three Pilot support- ers with him. Had those three not backed out, Pi- lot would have become CM. His horoscope would reveal that in spite of high command’s blessings if he can, or if Gehlot surrenders, which to me does not seem to be happening because then he could say that 2024 election are round the corner hence he should be made CM to project Congress’trust in leaders. But even if he surrenders, does Pilot’s horoscope say that he will become CM? I be- lieve that if such a situa- tion arises, and Ashok Gehlot gives his resigna- tion under an emotional environment in favour of Pilot, then too he would establish a mechanism that Pilot does not be- come CM rather some other should become. Definitely, Pilot has waited for a long time and he is young and the new generation should be given a chance, but at least his horoscope should also reflect some- thing positive for him. Similarly, Gehlot’s horo- scope should also hint at forming government and Congress should come out victories only then will all these variables will come into play and hence there will be a sus- picion on this question over Pilot. You said that if the Congress government comes then Ashok Ge- hlot will be the Chief Minister. But suppose that Congress govern- ment came and for some reason he was not given the role of Chief Minis- ter, then what would be the role of Gehlot? Then see, one thing will happen that he will have to go to Delhi. And this means that it is natural that the post of General Secretary is kept for him, perhaps he should be ap- pointed in place of Venu- gopal and given the charge of Treasure. But I think the bigger thing is that he could have be- come the Congress President. But Kharge has gone much further and is handling issues like Opposition Unity and India Alliance. But if such a situation arises, then Ashok Ge- hlot can be the Prime Ministerial face of Con- gress. The reason is that Rahul Gandhi is a reluc- tant bride and even if the party asks him, he will say that no, I am not ready to take any direct responsibility. So, the fu- ture of Ashok Gehlot in Congress is that in that situation, he will be So- nia Gandhi’s eyes and ears in Delhi and his mind will be focused on Rajasthan too. He will come here a few days a week and he will be the backward class face of Congress for the post of Prime Minister. What do you feel that after what happened on August 25, 2022 and Gehlot did not be- come Congress Presi- dent, was he right in do- ing so or is his current role bet- ter? My assessment is that it was a strategic mistake of Ashok Gehlot. He should have opted for party presidency. At that time Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra was going on. If at that time, Ashok Gehlot had be- come the President, Ra- hul Gandhi, KC Venugo- pal, Priyanka and others would have walked in theYatra passing through Rajasthan, then you can imagine the added en- thusiasm would the Con- gress workers have had in their journey! In the mind of any Congress worker, becoming the President of the party is the epitome. So he should not have lost the opportunity either in the conflict with Pilot or in the allurement of the post of Chief Minister, but he lost it. And again, he was the most loyal leader of the party, and loyal to Sonia Gandhi. No one could have ex- pected that when Ashok Gehlot was the CLP leader, there could be a rebellion in the team and a rebellion against the orders of the high com- mand. And Ashok Ge- hlot himself went and said that Madam, I am sorry and it was my re- sponsibility because I was the leader and I could not get it done. Even on the day the re- bellion was taking place, Ashok Gehlot told Ma- hesh Joshi at 1 o’clock in the night that everything is fine but what would Sonia ji be thinking? So they had a relationship of trust and confidence? It was broken once. Whether it was restored later is a different matter. Sonia’s confidence was so much that when all this happened andAshok Gehlot came apologiz- ing, he was still offered the opportunity to be- come the President. Someone told me that at 8:30, then at 11:30 and then at 1:30 the high Com- m a n d p h o n e d G e h l o t and said l e a v e whatever h a p - p e n e d , come to D e l h i and become the Presi- dent. But he did not like it. But today I can say that if the government is not formed, and Ashok Gehlot would mull on this aspect, he may come to conclusion that it would have been better if he had gone somewhere else, then neither would he be accused of rebel- lion or breach of trust. The only thing that re- mains is that he remained the Chief Minister for one and a half years. I said that revenge is the cause of death. Their people have such a strong sense of venge- ance against Pilot and the feeling of enmity be- tween the two camps is so great that they felt that if he was no longer the Chief Minister, his sup- porters would absolutely come to ransom. So all those supporters ran to Gehlot’s house and cre- ated pressure that some- thing bad may happen. So all of them went and explained to Gehlot. Otherwise there was a moment when Ashok Gehlot had called Ma- hesh Joshi and said that if you have received a call from Delhi, then make a proposal of one or two lines that you trust the command. But the supporters who were afraid of Pilot got this decision changed. So I believe that it would have been better if Ge- hlot had become the party president. Now who can read the destiny, so let’s see. So if BJP government is formed in the State, who will be the contend- er for the CM’s chair? This is a relevant ques- tion since majority of surveys are saying that BJP will come back to power. As far as CM is concerned, the natural choice in this party was Vasundhara Raje. I have used the word ‘was’ in addressing this question in relation to Raje. Had it been the case that she would have been project- ed and contest would have been fought on Nar- endra Modi’s face and Amit Shah’s strategy, then the chances of win- ning the elections would have been more. Al- though BJP is claiming that it will get 140 seats. So Raje would have be- come CM as natural choice. However, as of today and according to the prevailing situation, Raje is not the front run- ner for CM. As of today, Gajendra Singh Shekha- wat is the choice for CM and I have been saying this for the past four years that the high com- mand has groomed him over these years for Ra- jasthan as shadow Chief Minister or as leader of opposition. And second- ly, as far as Raje is con- cerned, it is high com- mand’s policy decision that they have replace old guards with second gen- eration. They are looking for leaders that are young who can rule for 10-15 years and Shekhawat falls in that bracket. But if one has to name one can name Ashwini Vaishnaw, or Arjun Ram Meghwal or Diya Ku- mariorRajendraRathore. But I believe that Shek- hawat is the natural con- tender who has been groomed by the party for four years. Dr JagDeesh ChanDra, CMD Editor-in-Chief THOUGHT OF THE DAY Postal Reg No. JPC/004/2022-24 Jaipur, Saturday | November 11, 2023 www.firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia zWill Gehlot form his government in Ra- jasthan once again and fulfil his wishes of be- coming CM for the fourth time? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Today Will Gehlot form government and become CM for the fourth time is a question, whose answer will be known only on December 3, but it is cer- tain that, as of this mo- ment, Gehlot is totally confident that he will form the government. It is his analysis that as of now, Congress has around 82 seats within the next week or ten days, the situation will change, such is their claim, and that the Con- gress will touch the 100 seats required. But the betting market and the surveys are terming it to be BJP’s victory. Pha- laudi betting market is claiming that it would be 120-130 seats in favour of BJP and Congress would be around 65-70 seats. Apart from that ABP, India Today and other similar institutions have done surveys, which say that BJP would get anywhere between 115- 125 seats and Congress would be between 62 to 85. Gehlot’s analysis is also on the same lines. There is only one survey in the nation that has claimed that Congress would get around 110 seats and BJP would get about 82 seats and that institution claims that it had done survey in Kar- nataka and said that Con- gress would get 135 seats which proved to be true. They had said Congress would get 45 seats in Himachal and Congress got 40 seats. Hence, they are hopeful that Congress government will be formed in Rajasthan. But the majority of surveys hint at BJP government. But perhaps the most im- portant parameter of this election and if Gehlot will form government again is if this election is being fought on the face of sitting legislators or on Ashok Gehlot’s face. If it is being contested in the face of MLAs, then any- thing can happen and Congress can get stuck at 40 odd seats too. The rea- son for this is that there is immense anger and dis- gruntlement against MLAs because there are complaints of interfer- ence in transfers of Pat- waris, Collectors, SHOs and SPs, interference in routine administration, corruption complaints and thus it is being said that during this govern- ment, legislators had been behaving like re- gional CMs and even CM himself was compelled and although he too ac- cepted that it was not right, but what could be done, it was his political compulsion. There were two problems. Firstly, he had to keep the flock to- gether so that they do not shift to the Pilot camp and secondly, he had to send money to AICC as well like any other CM for any other party. Due to both the reasons, the administration was hit in the field. In fact, Gehlot’s own slogan of good gov- ernance was hit and I can bet on it that when he would sit at night and mull on things, he must feel sad on the situation. So let’s see what happens in the days to come. zWhy does Sonia Gan- dhi have so much trust on Ashok Gehlot? Why did she give complete free hand to him in ticket distribution? The trust is there because of an emotional bond since the time of Rajiv Gandhi as she considers him like family. Truth be told, the trust Sonia Gan- dhi has on Gehlot is more than she has on Rahul and Priyanka, the situa- tion says so. Look at the developments on Sep- tember 25, all his crimes were forgiven. It hap- pened in Jaipur and in a way, we can say that it was a rebellion of sorts when High Command’s orders were not followed. When Maken left Ge- hlot’s residence, he had to call up Sonia Gandhi and apologise for being unable to get the state unit to follow High Com- mand’s directive. He merely had to take a one- line proposal that the state unit gives all rights to the High Command on selection of new Chief Minister i.e. Pilot’s chris- tening. But that couldn’t happen and look at the time since then, Ashok Gehlot is secured at his place. He apologised and everything ended. So, Gehlot and Sonia’s rela- tion is beyond decoding and perhaps that is why some people say that there may be a secret un- derstanding between the two that if push comes to shove, she will always stand behind Gehlot. zAmong his three trust- ed lieutenants, why could Gehlot get ticket only for Dhariwal and not the other two as well i.e. Mahesh Joshi and Dharmendra Rathore? Do you think Gehlot did not use his veto for both of them? See, veto is not used for everyone. Veto itself means for one and for the remaining individuals recommendations can be made. There is word in political circles that since Dhariwal’s candidature was kind of like prestige point for Gehlot, there may have been some deal of-sorts that has been made. But Gehlot estab- lished his credibility by getting a ticket for Dhari- wal and gave message that he is the ‘Boss.’Dha- riwal’s situation is differ- ent from these two. The Screening Committee had recommended giving ticket to Dhariwal at the initial stage, but Dhari- wal was not ready to con- test. He wanted that tick- et be given to his son, but Gogoi said that ticket will not be given to sons or relatives, although at a later stage they did give. After this, the Screening committee meeting hap- pened and perhaps some individuals, may be from Pilot camp, complained to Sonia Gandhi that Dhariwal’s ticket has not been cut. So just as the candidature was dis- cussed, Sonia asked if ‘he is the same man’. Then after multiple ses- sions and deliberations, Gehlot came out to be the ultimate winner and Dha- riwal was given ticket. As far as the remaining two are concerned, they are Gehlot’s trusted lieu- tenants and were there in the September 25 rebel- lion, but this time around, Gehlot could see through Dhariwal only and not the other two. zSo what is Mahesh Joshi and Dharmendra Rathore’s future in Con- gress because there was word that Joshi could join BJP also? Discussion was held on Joshi joining BJP, but it was not to be, perhaps over some conditions that he may have had. See, Joshi is a loyalist in- dividual. He is loyal to Gehlot, is a calm and col- lected person and takes everyone along. This time around, some situa- tions arose and cases happened that the matter went out of hand. And the three men, Dhariwal, Joshi and Rathore, who were considered accused of rebellion, one of them, Dhariwal, was let go and these two were not. But now I do not think that he will be heading to BJP since its too late now. So what next then? If Gehlot comes back to power, then he would be reha- bilitated. As far as Dhar- mendra Rathore is con- cerned, it does not matter to him, if he has not been fielded since he is Ge- hlot’s ‘Hanuman’ and when Gehlot comes to power, Rathore always shines. He is Gehlot loy- alist and is executioner for him. So, I see their rise with Gehlot’s rise. zQuestions were raised on Assembly Speaker Dr CP Joshi during the re- bellion. What is your take on it? It was not during the re- bellion but during the discussions on ticket dis- tribution when question was raised on fielding Dhariwal, Joshi and Rathore. During that time, some individuals made themselves heard before the High Com- mand, albeit in a hushed manner, that these three were identified but there was a fourth individual also. When the High Command enquired, it was told that the strategy to give resignations, as part of rebellion, was forged at Dr CP Joshi’s residence and when they could not understand what could be done, they approached CP Joshi and it was him who showed them the way forward. This was the complaint that was made before the High Command. How- ever, CP Joshi’s image is a credible image and he has his own individuality before the High Com- mand. It is believed that he is a powerful speaker that he wouldn’t have done so. Thus, Joshi re- ceived the benefit of doubt. Interestingly, Ge- hlot has even announced that Joshi is his natural ally if he becomes CM the next time, he will make CP the Assembly Speaker yet again. zIt is said that Rahul and his team had decid- ed on cutting 50 percent tickets of sitting MLAs, but it did not happen. How did Gehlot get So- nia to overturn this deci- sion of Rahul’s? It is true that a decision was made based on sur- veys that ticket of half of sitting legislators would be cut. In the beginning, the party was of the thought that since there were several complaints against the legislators and there was immense anti-incumbency against MLAs, thus, they should not be fielded. Therefore, half the tickets were to be cut. Hence out of 113, half of the tickets were to be cut, but it didn’t hap- pen and merely two doz- en tickets were cut. So the question is why did the Party not cut tickets? When CEC met, Rahul Gandhi saw the list and said that this is the same old list and questioned the motive behind hold- ing the meeting and dis- cussing it. So, Rahul was of the idea that tickets must be cut. Any ways, that meeting was can- celled and rescheduled after which Gehlot brought a new theory saying that there is lack of good candidates in the field and there may be a rebellion as well. Rahul Gandhi was convinced with Gehlot;s word and said that if we have to loose, then we may con- test the same leaders. This would also mean that if we lose then the gap of votes would be less. Moreover, I have said in the past too that when tickets are stalled till last moment, those tickets are given by Ge- hlot only. This is because his home work is so strong that if any issue comes up, then that seat ultimately goes in Ge- hlot’s kitty only. So now, the question is who actu- ally dominated the ticket distribution? Rahul Gan- dhi and a few others asked for certain MLAs to be given ticket, but on the contrary, the ticket of all these MLAs were cut. As far asAshok Gehlot is concerned, he has his own mathematics regard- ing politics. I would go on to say that after Amit shah, if there is another leader who is the second most successful Home Minister too, it would be Ashok Gehlot since he also has the Home port- folio. His intelligence and surveillance system is at par with Amit Shah and I feel that if he had been in BJP, he would have been a major part of Modi-Shah team. So on the basis of that intelli- gence team, Gehlot won against Pilot. So as far as cutting tickets is con- cerned, ultimately ‘mag- ic’ happened! TO BE CONTINUED... As parents to our pets, it is our duty to make them feel secure and comfortable dur- ing the festive season. Some simple tips can be a big help. Provide a safe and quiet place- a room or a crate will also do, you can keep it in the bathroom if there is no other area. Put on a dim night light, windows and doors closed, keep their food and water bowls and their blanket and bedding plus a favourite toy. Go to them occasionally to pet them and give them a treat or two, lest they get anxious. Keep them away from lights and crackers, it can be dangerous. If your pet is very excited and anxious, ensure that they do not leave home as they might get lost in run- ning away, in extreme cases, ask your vet for a calming device for the pet in advance. Finish the evening walk on festive days before the sun sets. Also, be as compassionate for street dogs. If they take refuge in your garden or be- low your car, allow them. Post the name and number of your local animal welfare Helpline in the colony and friends Whats-app groups, so that in case anyone sees a hurt street animal, they can imme- diately call for help. We, the humans, are supposed to be the most intelligent life on Earth, let us take care of oth- ers! Happy Deepawali!
