This document discusses adultery from a biblical perspective. It provides passages from Genesis establishing God's design for marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman. Additional passages condemn adultery as a betrayal of the marriage covenant and a sin against one's own body. While adultery is not permissible, the document notes it can be forgiven for those who repent and turn from sin through faith in Jesus Christ. The overall message is that God's plan is for married couples to honor their vows and flee temptation by focusing on spiritual growth and fulfilling their duties to one another.
The document discusses the biblical concept of atonement. It notes that atonement literally means "at-one-ment", meaning to be made one or brought into unity. Several Bible passages are presented showing how Jesus and the Father are one in works and purpose. It is suggested that true atonement involves humanity also being brought into unity with God and each other through participating in the works of ministry and mercy that Jesus and the prophets engaged in. These works involve healing, uplifting, and helping the oppressed, poor, and suffering.

Can You know for sure you will make it to Heaven? You can Know!
In this course, I’m going to take you step-by-step through a success formula which will not leave you the same person. Nor will it leave you standing on the outside of Heaven’s gates when this thing is all said and done.
No my friend! This course is going to show you the narrow way to life. Life without discovering life is not success, is it? By no means!
So, the first step: We’re going to talk about “having ears to hear.” This is necessary if you are going to make a right assessment regarding who you are, why you are here and where you are going. The only personal transformation which will matter in the end is a new creation! I’m going to show you how to get there and I’m confident you will have the ears to hear as we go over, together—this all important information for those who have ears to hear.
The second step involves changing your mind. Any person who is truly wise understands from where this wisdom comes. They adjust their thinking in order to be aligned with this wisdom. In step 2, let’s celebrate wisdom together as I encourage you to change your mind regarding its important aspects.
Once we get into Step 3, it will be time to get serious about your soul to make sure you are not gambling with it. Did you ever here, “craps!” Well, if you have or haven’t, you don’t want to come up short and bust out when it comes to your soul. You will be encouraged in this step to make the right decision—regarding your soul—in this formula of success.
Step 4 brings you to a place of reality-checking. We look over what is required to have success in the way of transformation and heaven. Taking a leap of blind faith isn’t required when you have good, solid evidence and reasons to take an active step of trust. You do it every day and in this step, you will be encouraged as I get into the trenches with you so you can surface, shining like gold!
Finally in Step 5, we’re going to make sure you proceed in a manner which will guarantee your success. Success involves victory and having a game plan. This step will give you that game plan.

Jesus tells Pilate that he is indeed a king, having been born for that purpose. He says he came to bring truth to the world, and that all who love the truth will recognize his words are true. The passage then describes a poll finding that most Americans are familiar with Christian teachings but their beliefs are unlikely to change. It then describes Jesus' encounter with a Samaritan woman at a well, where he reveals details of her personal life and tells her he can give her living water to satisfy her deepest needs.
Jesus rested by a well in Sychar, Samaria where he spoke to a Samaritan woman who came to draw water. They discussed her marital history and religious beliefs. Jesus revealed to her that he was the Messiah, and that true worship does not depend on location but is defined by spirit and truth. The woman then told others in her town about Jesus.
The document discusses resisting evil and the devil based on passages from the Bible. It describes the devil as a deceiver who tempts humans to sin and doubts God. The devil's goal is to steal, kill and destroy. However, Christians have power over the devil through faith in God and by putting on spiritual armor like truth, righteousness, salvation and prayer. Believers can stand against the devil and attack his strongholds through prayer and godly action.

The woman of Samaria meets a stranger at the well. Their conversation reveals to her that this man is the Christ but also reveals why many of us are blinded to recognizing him.
Jesus teaches that adultery begins in the heart with lustful intentions and desires. Merely looking at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in one's heart. To avoid sin, one must deal radically with whatever causes them to stumble, even if it is as precious as an eye or a hand. True righteousness comes not by following rules externally but by having a transformed heart through faith in Jesus Christ.

This document contains a collection of Bible passages and teachings from the Leader Olumba Olumba Obu of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star. It discusses the importance of abiding in truth and avoiding sin. Several passages warn of "false brethren" who claim to follow Christ but do not obey his teachings. The Leader emphasizes living according to the teachings of the Holy Spirit rather than identifying as a member of any church. He advises choosing partners who share one's way of life and character, and spreading the teachings about God that have been revealed to members.
The document discusses Jesus' teachings about the Holy Spirit from the Gospel of John. It examines passages where Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit/Advocate will come after he departs, to guide the disciples into truth and remind them of Jesus' words. The document analyzes the roles and meanings of "Advocate," "Helper," and "Comforter." It also discusses how John depicts the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost as Jesus breathing the Spirit onto the disciples, and the implications of this imagery.
The document contains several Bible verses that describe God's love for humanity and how those who believe in Jesus Christ are made new, chosen by God, and given eternal life. The verses discuss being born again of water and spirit, doing good works prepared by God, having all needs supplied by God, and finding comfort, forgiveness of sins, and redemption through Christ.

The document discusses how God is always working and Jesus worked in accordance with God. It provides examples from the Bible of how God worked through people like Moses to accomplish his purposes. God prepares people and works on them spiritually before working through them. The document encourages readers to ask God to show them where he is working and to participate in spiritual education and service.
Let us pray
All: O God, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the death of the Cross, and by his glorious resurrection delivered us from the power of the enemy, grant us, your servants, to die to sin and to live for righteousness, that, meriting your favor by the way we live, we may be worthy to come to the paschal feast with minds made pure; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
This document discusses the need for adjustments in life and obedience to God. It provides examples from the Bible where people had to make adjustments, such as when Jesus called Peter and Andrew to follow him and "be fishers of men". It also discusses how obedience to God can be costly, as Paul outlines the hardships and sufferings he endured for his faith. The document emphasizes total dependence on God and letting go of other things to fully follow and devote oneself to God.

Mary Magdalene went to the tomb on Easter Sunday and found it empty. She informed Peter and John, who went to the tomb to investigate. They saw the burial cloths but did not understand that Jesus had risen from the dead. Mary stayed at the tomb weeping and encountered the risen Jesus, who called her by name. Jesus told Mary to share the news of his resurrection with the disciples and that he would ascend to the Father.

This document discusses two parables from Luke that teach about the importance of persistent prayer. The parable of the bad friend shows that God is more willing to answer prayers than an unwilling friend, and calls believers to ask, seek, and knock. The parable of the unjust judge illustrates that believers should always pray and not lose heart, as God will surely answer His elect who cry out to Him day and night. The document emphasizes that bold persistence in prayer should be based on knowing God's willingness to answer and avenge, though His timing may be long, and that righteous prayer within God's will is powerful.

When we pray, we will see that everyone seems to have a different object of prayer. Some people pray to God the Father, and some people pray to Jesus Christ. It seems that they are all gods, and it seems to be the same as whoever prays.
Now we will study whether there is any difference between them from the scriptures of the Bible. We will see the roles of each other from the three-in-one God and their mutual connection. In this way, when you pray, you will not pray to the wrong object
1) Marriage is meant to picture Christ's relationship with the church.
2) In the Bible, divorce breaks this picture, except in cases of adultery, where the marriage no longer depicts Christ and the church.
3) Paul provides guidance for Christians regarding marriage, divorce, and remarriage. He instructs that it is better to remain single if possible, but if married, spouses should not separate except in cases of adultery or an unbelieving spouse initiating divorce. Remarriage is acceptable in these cases.
This document discusses what the Bible says about divorce. It notes that marriage is intended to be lifelong, but that divorce is allowed in cases of adultery or abandonment. It also suggests abuse could potentially justify divorce by extending the abandonment principle. The document advises that in a struggling marriage, one should be Christlike through sacrifice, be prayerful, and be resolute in their commitment through challenges.

An expository sermon on what Jesus and the Bible teaches about divorce. Main text is in Mathew 5:31 and 32. This is a continuation of the sermon on the mount series
The document discusses Jesus' teachings on lust, immorality, and divorce from the New Testament. It addresses His statements that lustful looking is akin to adultery, and advises disassociating from tempting situations even if metaphorically "cutting off" body parts. Jesus affirms the permanence of marriage, only allowing divorce for adultery. He notes that not all can live as celibate "eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven," and dedication is required for that lifestyle choice. The presentation provides context and interpretation for Jesus' challenging words on sexual purity and marriage.
Unscrambling the egg 1 Corinthians 10:17Ed Sullivan
What does the Bible say about divorce and remarriage? A study of 1 Corinthians 10.Know that divorce is not the unpardonable sin. Divorce proofing your marriage.
Stealing is wrong because it goes against God's commandments. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit, it showed their willingness to take what was not theirs. Various forms of stealing mentioned in the Bible include theft, dishonest business practices, withholding wages, and finding and keeping lost property. To remedy stealing, one must make restitution, stop stealing and work honestly, and seek God's forgiveness and salvation. Ultimately, we should store our treasures in heaven rather than on earthly possessions that can be stolen.
Divorce was uncommon in India historically but has been increasing in recent years. The main causes of divorce include infidelity, growing apart, personality clashes, lack of communication, addiction issues, and domestic violence. Divorce can negatively impact children physically, emotionally, and socially according to research. Jesus taught that divorce should only occur in cases of adultery, in contrast to the more lenient views of the Pharisees at the time who allowed divorce for various minor reasons.
The document discusses Jesus' teachings on lust, immorality, and divorce. It addresses how desire turns to sin if not kept in check, and how to "disassociate" from sinful circumstances through figuratively "cutting off" offending parts. Jesus forbids divorce except in cases of adultery or pre-marital fornication, establishing marriage as a lifelong commitment. For those unable to receive this teaching, dedicating oneself to celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom is recommended.
This document discusses biblical views on divorce and remarriage. It presents the following key points:
- Marriage is a covenant that can be broken through intentional and continuous breaking of promises. The wronged party can end the covenant if it is broken beyond repair.
- God divorced Israel as an example, acknowledging the covenant was already broken by Israel's adultery, not by God. Divorce is acceptable when one party breaks the covenant.
- Jesus allowed for divorce in cases of adultery. Paul added divorce is allowed if an unbelieving spouse abandons the believer.
- In Jesus' time, Jewish views ranged from only allowing divorce for abuse/abandonment to allowing it for any reason
The document discusses the three angels' messages of Revelation 14:6-12. It explains that the remnant of God's church will keep the commandments of God and have faith in Jesus. In contrast, the beast power will worship the antichrist and break God's commandments. It also discusses how the new covenant written on the heart by the Holy Spirit will enable God's end-time people to obey his commandments through love.
Based upon the book "The Sacred Search"
What if i's not about WHO you marry, but WHY?
Join the sacred search to find the right person after knowing the reasons and purposes of your marriage life which is to please God and work in pro of the kingdom.
This document discusses adultery and sexual immorality from both biblical and modern perspectives. It explores what the Bible says about these topics, how Jesus fulfilled yet expanded the biblical commands, and how believers should live in response to God's faithfulness and commands regarding purity.
1. Paul discusses marriage and sexual relations, saying it is good for a man and woman to be married and fulfill their marital duties to each other to avoid sexual immorality.
2. He gives instructions on remaining married or reconciling for believers with unbelieving spouses, and says marriage should not be dissolved for believers except in cases of abandonment by an unbeliever.
3. Paul counsels that both married and unmarried believers should remain in the situations they were in when called by God, whether married, unmarried, slave or free, and to not let their status trouble them.
The Beatitudes - Matt.5:1-48
2 This is what he taught them:
3 “God blesses those who realize their need for him,*
for the Kingdom of Heaven is given to them.
The document discusses God's design and purpose for marriage. It asserts that marriage is God's idea, established before sin, as a symbol of Christ's relationship to the church. God's plan for marriage involves a man leaving his parents to be united with his wife, becoming one flesh in a lifelong covenant. Biblical roles of marriage include companionship, enjoyment, worship, protection, procreation, and completeness between partners. The document urges upholding marriage as God intended through mutual love and submission between spouses.
The document discusses the commandments of God and contrasts them with the commandments of man. It argues that the Ten Commandments were given by God to the Israelites after delivering them from slavery in Egypt. However, the Israelites were a stubborn people and repeatedly broke their covenant with God. The New Testament established a new covenant where God's law would be written on people's hearts rather than on tablets of stone. True followers of God are described as keeping God's commandments out of love for Him through the power of the Holy Spirit working within them.
Teaching About Divorce
10 And he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.
2 And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” 5 And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ 7 ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,[a] 8 and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
This document is a slide presentation on keeping love alive. It discusses loving your spouse as Christ loved the church, references scripture passages about God's covenant with Israel and how their love grew cold, and examines passages about loving God, neighbors, and fellow believers. The presentation encourages examining one's own faith and maintaining love as the foremost commandment.
The document discusses what the Bible says about sexual sins. It provides several passages from the books of Galatians, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Ephesians, Colossians, 1 Timothy, and Thessalonians that condemn sexual immorality, adultery, incest, homosexuality, and lust. Punishments mentioned in Leviticus for various sexual sins include death. Matthew and Mark discuss Jesus' teachings on divorce and marriage. Ezekiel uses metaphorical language to condemn prostitution. Overall, the document asserts that the Bible prohibits unlawful sexual behavior and warns that those who engage in it will not inherit God's kingdom.

The document discusses the importance of knowing God and being known by God. It explores what it means to truly know God through personal dealings with Him, involvement in one's relationship with Him, and experiencing His grace. True knowledge of God is mutual understanding between God and humanity. God knows His people intimately just as a shepherd knows his sheep. Christians are called to listen to God's voice and follow Him in response to His initiative to draw people into a saving relationship through Jesus Christ.
The document contains a passage from Jeremiah 31 describing a new covenant God will make with Israel where he will put his law in their minds and write it on their hearts so they will all know him. It then shares a sermon from C.H. Spurgeon where he argues that the proper study of God's elect is God, and contemplating the divine nature humbles the mind while expanding it and providing consolation. Spurgeon encourages devoting time to meditating on what is known about God's attributes and applying it to oneself in order to clarify one's vision of God and allow his truth to have its proper impact.
This document provides an overview and analysis of key aspects of understanding the Book of Revelation. It discusses:
- The book's intended meaning and time frame, noting it was meant to be understood by early Christians facing persecution.
- Two common approaches to interpreting Revelation (historicist and futurist) and arguments for understanding it in its original context.
- Important symbols and their meanings, either explained directly in the text or through comparisons to other Bible passages.
- Features like repeated themes of judgment, paired opposites representing good and evil, and the need to solve Revelation like a puzzle rather than view it as a mystery.
The document discusses salvation through faith in God and Jesus Christ. It emphasizes that salvation is a gift from God and not by works or observance of religious laws, so that no one can boast. Faith is shown through love for God and others by obeying God's commands to love him and your neighbor. God's grace and mercy, not human righteousness or deeds, are what lead to eternal life.
The document discusses the life journey of John Newton, including that he was born in 1725, went to sea at age 17, became a slave trader in 1744, underwent a spiritual conversion and became ordained as a clergyman in 1748 and 1764 respectively, wrote hymns in 1773, and opposed the slave trade later in life until his death in 1807 at age 82. It emphasizes his dramatic transformation from an "infidel and libertine" who worked in the slave trade to preaching the gospel that he had once tried to destroy.
This document discusses the biblical uses of the word "Amen" in three sentences or less:
The document explores different biblical references to the word "Amen", which is used to affirm that what was spoken or written is reliable, as well as its use by Jesus 75 times in the Gospels and by King David's advisor Benaiah to agree that Solomon should be king after David. It also mentions Jesus saying he is coming quickly and John's response of "Amen, come Lord Jesus" in Revelation 22:20.
The document discusses several biblical figures' acknowledgement of their sinfulness before God, including Isaiah, Job, David, a tax collector, and the prodigal son. These figures express feelings of unworthiness, ruin, and being unclean due to their sins. However, they also find forgiveness, atonement, or justification from God through humbling themselves and acknowledging their sin.
Jesus was cursed, rejected, oppressed, and shamed for our sins. He was scourged and crucified on the cross to redeem us, cleanse us from sin, and provide salvation. Through faith in Jesus as the Son of God, we can overcome the world, receive sonship with God, and live together with Him for eternity.
King Jehoshaphat of Judah faced a vast invading army. He proclaimed a fast and gathered the people to seek help from God. God assured them that he would fight for them. When the armies met, God caused the invading forces to turn against each other, and Judah was delivered without even entering the battle. The kingdom was then at peace as God had given them rest from their enemies.
The document provides biographical information about Paul, originally known as Saul. It describes that he was born in Tarsus and trained under Gamaliel in Jerusalem. It mentions that Saul took part in the stoning of Stephen and that he later had a conversion experience where he embraced Christianity and changed his name to Paul. The rest of the document focuses on Paul's missionary work, preaching of Jesus, theological focus on grace and faith, and his faithful service until his death.
The document discusses the concept of sin and forgiveness. It acknowledges that all people are sinners and have sinned. It references biblical passages about God forgiving sins and His provision of atonement and mercy for sinners. The document highlights that forgiveness is received through faith as a gift of grace from God.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

2 Peter 3: Because some scriptures are hard to understand and some will force them to say things God never intended, Peter warns us to take care.

4. Genesis 2:18-24 NIV The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
5. Genesis 2:18-24 NIV But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man."
6. Genesis 2:18-24 NIV For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
7. Matthew 19:3-9 NIV Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
8. Matthew 19:3-9 NIV "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
10. Malachi 2:13-16 NIV Another thing you do: You flood the Lord's altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. You ask, "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.
11. Malachi 2:13-16 NIV Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. "I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.
12. Proverbs 2:16-17 NIV Wisdomwill save you also from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words, who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God.
19. Matthew 5:27-30 NIV You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
21. John 8:3-11 NIV The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
22. John 8:3-11 NIV When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
23. John 8:3-11 NIV Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."
26. 1Corinthians 6:18-20 NIV Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
28. 1Corinthians 7:1-5 NIV Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.
29. 1Corinthians 7:1-5 NIV Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
31. 1Corinthians 6:9-11 NIV Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Editor's Notes
8th lesson in Ten Commandments; 7th commandFew words, many implications:Exodus 20:14 NIV "You shall not commit adultery.Bible not prudish about sexualityOne book devoted to beauty of sexual love (Song of Solomon)Man & woman designed as sexual creaturesSexual relation to be governed by CreatorAdultery in text refers to unlawful sexual relations on the part of someone who is marriedSin against the marriage of a fellow citizen — it destroys the homeLaw of Moses distinguished between adultery (death penalty) & sexual contact with a young woman (monetary fine & usually marriage if father willing)So it distinguished fornication and adulteryBoth were sins, but the significance of each was differentIn ancient world this is often referred to as "the great sin"We make a big issue about sexual purity of people who are not marriedThis is to married people about importance of fidelity in marriage
Our culture favors adulteryTelevision glamorizes it; magazines glorify itSociety gives lip service to the Ten CommandmentsSociety favors laws against killing, stealing & perjuryYet most regard sexual choices as a private matterTo most, my sexual relations are my private affairThis ignores that society is made up of familiesStrong families require strong marriagesStrong marriages require strong commitments
What the 7th command forbids is not all it is aboutIt forbids adultery, but it is about marriage.Marriage goes all the way back to creation.
Woman was not created so man could have sexShe was not created for procreationWoman was God's answer to lonelinessThe relationship was intended to be permanentIt is not a contract, but a covenant.Genesis 2:24 NIV For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
Jesus on marriage:
From the beginning, the principle was "unite"The key scripture word for marriage is "covenant"
God created marriage for partnershipHe cemented it in a covenantThe world tells us to define our decisions by the possibilities of the momentThe Bible tells us to define our decisions in terms of a past commitment
The Biblical word for the sexual relationship is “know”Man is the only creature that relates sexually face-to-faceGod is not concerned that two bodies come together, but two beingsThe sexual relationship is the symbol of the covenantAdultery takes the symbol and abuses it
Because it is bestial? Not the Biblical reason
Because it is not for procreation? Not the Biblical reason
Because it causes pain & heartache? That is true, but it is not the Biblical reasonIf society removed the pain & heartache, it would still be wrong
Rather, God is against adultery because it destroys the covenant it was intended to cementOur society has lost sight of the fact that marriage is a covenantHaving relationships with everyone & a covenant with no one is wrong
Physical adulteryOccurs when a man has sexual relations with someone who is not his wife, or a woman with someone who is not her husband. Why would someone want a relationship outside of marriage? In a covenant, we share & give.In an encounter, we grab & take & throw away.It is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord to use a person like a thing.
Mental adulteryLust is dwelling on the possibilities of an encounter. We think it is not bad. Why does God think it's so bad?How does it hurt your wife? Dwelling on thoughts about breaking the covenant does not make it stronger, but weaker.
Legal adulteryLegality & morality are not always the same. The Jews wanted to know about legality. Jesus answered with morality. They said: "The court invalidated the contract." Jesus answered: "We're not talking about a contract before a court, but a covenant before God."We need to affirm that marriage is for life. The purpose of this sermon is not to inflict pain on those who never desired divorce.Jesus gave adultery as the only grounds for divorce, but he did not make divorce obligatory. Some decide to get out, then they stop loving & giving until they drive their mate into the arms of another, then they say: "Gotcha".If God can forgive your spiritual adultery, why can't you forgive another's physical adultery? Adultery does not necessitate divorce.Consider a story from the Gospel of John
There is adultery in the church. Likely, in this church. Why is it not confessed?I would say to the church: "Throw a stone only if you have not sinned" and I'm not just talking about this sin.I would say to the sinner, as Jesus: "Neither do I condemn you, go and stop sinning."
First, fulfill the Lord's design for your marriage.Your body is not your own. You were purchased by the Lord & given in covenant to your mate.
Giving your body to the wrong person
Keeping your body from the right personSome drive their mates away by using their body as a weapon
Second, flee the world's attacks on your marriage. It is a form of adultery to give your husband or wife what's left over after the world has had all it can use.Don't trifle with impurity. The Bible says flee sexual immorality. Don't flirt with it.The Lord will keep his word. You keep yours.Pray: Father, help us. We know what's going on. It fills us with awe to know that the relationship between husband and wife depicts the relationship between Christ & the church. Help us to show covenant loyalty to the world.
Adultery is not permissibleAdultery is forgivable if washed in the blood of Jesus.
