2. Pre-proposal
Tell me in no more than 20 words, what is your FMP idea? A scene from a film where two people travel back in time.
Why have you decided to make it? I want to create a film because that is the area I am interested
in for the future. I think this idea is a good way that I can show
some editing and visual effects to help get a good grade. I think
that it will also help to strengthen my skills and confidence in
premiere pro because it will be quite challenging to make
successfully.
What about your project makes it important to you? I am interested in making films in the future and this will be the
first time I can make something practical in this area. I look
forward to putting some of the camera and editing techniques I
have learned in theory into practice. This project will also give
me the opportunity to learn from mistakes and strengthen skills
that I will need for the future.

3. Pre-proposal
Outline some of the initial influences on your idea/work and some
potential research targets (remember, research isn’t just a paper based
activity)
One of my inspirations has been the Netflix tv show stranger things. I
found, whilst watching, that it has some really interesting and
captivating use of editing transitions which is something I would like to
put some focus on in my own project. This is because it’s something that
I like paying attention to when watching TV and I like the effect that it
has to viewers. This is why it is something that I would like to try
emulate myself.
For my research I want to practice using the camera again because I’ve
only used them twice and it was a little while ago. I also need to do
some experiments in premiere pro to practice some more potential
effects. This will help give me more comfort using the software before
starting production.
What effect do you want to have on your audience when they see your
project?
I want the film to be exciting and fun for the audience. I also want there
to be an element of mystery as this makes the film more enticing to an
audience.
Describe the tone/mood/style of your project [which production
techniques/characteristics are you employing?]
It will be fantasy/adventure film. It will have quite a fast-editing style as
well as match on action cuts etc. I want it to have a light hearted tone
that doesn’t have many heavy moments. It should be easy and
enjoyable to watch as the audience.
Why have you decided to make your project in this style? I think that think will be a good way to show some of my skills in order to
get a good grade. I will have the opportunity to try some interesting and
complicated video effects that I haven’t tried before. This means that it
will help strengthen my knowledge from the experience this will give,
allowing me to move forward with more skills and confidence.

Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
There is repetition of bright lights and colours to represent the time travel aspect. There is also
repetition of costume style which depicts the time that they will be traveling back to and the style
of clothes they will change in to.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
My mood board will help me with my final product because it can help give me inspiration for
production and planning. It will also give me guidance when I start writing down my ideas. It can
also help me capture the tone that I want to create when I start production because I will have
something to refer to when I get stuck.

11. Influence/Inspiration
Edgar Wright
Edgar Wright is a film director who has made films such as Hot Fuzz (2007), Baby
Driver (2017), Shaun of the Dead (2004), The Worlds End (2013) and Scott Pilgrim vs.
the world (2010).
Edgar Wright is know for taking a non conventional genre breaking approach to
filmmaking. This started early on with his film dead right. He liked dong these parodies
as a way to show his appreciation for the films that he loved to see himself. They often
have unique and jarring cuts and transitions that give the films a fast paced, quirky
tone.
He starts the process with script roadmaps to begin the world building and story. He
would also look into the genre conventions that he was looking to subvert to start
creating his signature style.

12. Influence/Inspiration
When writing baby driver, He was heavily inspired by the music. He wouldn’t write
scenes until he had chosen the song beforehand. He would then progress with writing
the scene. He liked the idea of soundtracking your life and so built a film around this
concept.
He also likes to use dramatic cuts in many of him films. A lot of the time this will be to
add comedic emphasis. He will often use wipes and whip pans between cuts.

There are many tools available on premiere pro. I can edit the audio by changing things
like the reverb. There are also many video effects like distortions. These effects can also
be animated by created key frames. There is also keying which can enable you to use a
green screen.

A common problem I face is not knowing how to do certain effects. I can use tutorials to
strengthen my knowledge and help me when I'm stuck.

You can select an instrument to play along on the track. You can then use the
musical typing keyboard to play different notes for the instrument chosen. You
can then add more tracks with different instruments to layer underneath other
ones and create songs. You press R and It will begin recording and, depending on
weather you select it, a metronome with start counting the beat. You can edit the
instruments you’re playing along the bottom by adjusting delay, reverb, tone, etc.

Finding the best instrument to use can sometimes be quite difficult especially
since there are so many different ones you can choose from. I also often struggle
finding where other options are to have pre-set beats and sounds.

17. Why are you making this project?
I would like to create a product to get practice in the area that I want to go into in the
future. It will also be useful to have for my portfolio to send to universities because it
shows my skills and that I have had practice creating films. This will show that I have
experience using cameras, creating scripts and storyboards, using video editing
software and using garage band to create sound effects. I also want to get more skill
practice to help me going forward. I will be able to gain more confidence with camera
work and video editing and I will also be able to strengthen my creative thinking skills.
I will also get the opportunity to learn more camera and editing techniques to take
with me going forward. It is important for me to get a lot of practice so that I can learn
from mistakes and create stronger projects in the future.

18. Hopes for the FMP
For the FMP I would like to create something that has good editing and shows
interesting visual techniques and effects. I would like it to be technically challenging so
that I can show my skills and improve techniques by learning new video effects and
using different editing software. I would like to carry out some detailed research and
experiments to allow me to get practice before starting production. I want to try out
lots of different techniques and effects before hand so that I can decide how to make
the final product. This will help me with creating a strong idea that can showcase the
best of my abilities.

19. Strengths and Limitations
One strength that I have is experience in being able to use premiere pro for video
editing. This means that I don't have to learn a new skill as I am already confident in
using it. I am also good at creating detailed plans which will help guide me through
production, making sure it goes smoothly. I am also good at managing my time well
and so I will be able to make sure that I give myself enough time to complete all areas
of my work.
One limitation for this project will be figuring out how to make the characters look like
they are time travelling in premiere pro. This is something that I do not already know
how to do so, if I want the effect to look good, it will take a lot of experimenting
beforehand. This will then allow me to calculate how much footage is needed to make
the effect work and look as good as possible.
