This 3-unit course provides an introduction to sustainable development and will cover topics such as the environmental, social and economic pillars of sustainability. It will examine the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals and analyze issues like overuse of resources, population growth, and ensuring economic growth is sustainable. The course aims to familiarize students with concepts of sustainable development and have them articulate major environmental issues and initiatives in the Philippines to achieve sustainability. It includes 6 chapters that will address topics such as planetary boundaries, sustainable agriculture and energy, cities, and environmental laws and policies in the Philippines. Student assessment will be based on tests, papers, discussion participation, and a research project.
