Are there ever times when it's okay to lie? Read Exodus 1:19-21; Joshua 2:1-6 with Hebrews 11:31 & James 2:25; 1 Samuel 20:4-29. Why do you think honesty is so important to God? Is there anyone to whom you should apologize for lying? If so, make a plan.
God teaches each of us using sometimes intensely painful circumstances to inculcate profound and powerful lessons. Such was the case with Jacob, the deceiver, who spent 20 years with his uncle Laban being on the receiving end of deceitfulness. Everyone, Jacob and Laban, Leah and Rachel, and Zilpah and Bilhah learn life's lessons in God's classroom, known as Genesis 29.
This is a study of just how much Jesus loved children. There is much more to be collected, but this is enough to make the point clear that children are precious to Him.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Loving God involves more than warm fuzzy
feelings.
It involves an outward display in our actions.
Jewish people use objects as reminders of this
truth.
3. NIV One of the teachers of the law came
and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had
given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the
commandments, which is the most important?”
answered Jesus,
4. NIV Hear, O Israel: The LORD our
God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your strength. These commandments that I give
you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them
on your children. Talk about them when you sit at
home and when you walk along the road, when you
lie down and when you get up. Tie them as
symbols on your hands and bind them on your
foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your
houses and on your gates.
5. Home Schooling (Teaching Children)
Behold, children are a gift of the LORD.
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
NIV Children are a heritage from
the LORD, offspring a reward from him.
6. The first commandment recorded in scripture --
be fruitful and multiply.
NIV God blessed them and said to
them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill
the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the
sea and the birds in the sky and over every
living creature that moves on the ground."
Dedication of children to God,
doing the best we can do.
7. The arrival of children affects life
A mother's Clothing
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes
as soon as your doctor confirms your
pregnancy.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as
long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your
regular clothes.
8. The Babies Clothing
1st baby: You pre-wash your newborn's clothes,
color-coordinate them, and fold them neatly
in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the
clothes are clean and discard only the ones
with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?
9. Pacifier
1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you
take it home and wash and boil it.
2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor,
you squirt it off with juice from the baby’s
bottle.
3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it
back in.
10. At Home
1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just
gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of every day watching
to be sure your older child isn't squeezing,
poking, or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a part of everyday hiding
from the children.
11.
12. Moral breakdown of the culture
I don’t think you need me to list all the ways
immorality has taken over our world.
Read your bible, God’s Word, then turn on the
TV & it will be obvious.
The Devil’s definitely working hard &
accomplishing a lot!
13. We can Pass on the baton of faith to children;
it involves
Building Relationships -- Spending Time
14.
15. Quality and Quantity Time
Being Responsible -- Live Your Faith
“Don't do as I do, do as I say.”
Not sinless perfection but consistency
Model the life before them -- making disciples
begins at home.
16. If we want our sons to love their wives as Christ
loved the church -- Dads, model it.
If we want our daughters to love their husbands,
Moms model it.
If we want our children to practice morality --
turn off immoral TV, etc.
If we want our children to pray -- parents pray;
study; serve; etc.
17. Bringing Repetition -- Teach Diligently
(with repetition)
In 1800, President T. Jefferson commissioned a
national survey to determine the level of literacy
in America. The survey found that more than
97% of Americans could read and write. The
stated reason was that American fathers
practiced daily bible reading with their children
around the breakfast table.
18. Fathers used to work with their sons on the
farm or in family businesses.
Mothers used to work with daughters in the
home.
Each would have time to talk and teach their
children.
Today we have a different world -- find creative
ways to connect with children and ultimately
teach them who God is and how to love Him.
19.
20. Impress them on your children. Talk about
them when you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down and when
you get up. Tie them as symbols on your
hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write
them on the doorframes of your houses and on
your gates.
21. NIV So if you faithfully obey
the commands I am giving you today—to love
the LORD your God and to serve him with all
your heart and with all your soul— then I will
send rain on your land in its season, both
autumn and spring rains, so that you may
gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. I
will provide grass in the fields for your cattle,
and you will eat and be satisfied.
22. Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn
away and worship other gods and bow down to
them. Then the LORD's anger will burn
against you, and he will shut up the heavens so
that it will not rain and the ground will yield no
produce, and you will soon perish from the
good land the LORD is giving you. Fix these
words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie
them as symbols on your hands and bind them
on your foreheads.
23. Teach them to your children, talking about
them when you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down and when
you get up. Write them on the doorframes of
your houses and on your gates, so that your
days and the days of your children may be
many in the land the LORD swore to give your
ancestors, as many as the days that the
heavens are above the earth.
24. NIV The LORD said to Moses,
"Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The
first offspring of every womb among the
Israelites belongs to me, whether human or
animal." Then Moses said to the people,
"Commemorate this day, the day you came out
of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the
LORD brought you out of it with a mighty hand.
Eat nothing containing yeast. Today, in the
month of Aviv, you are leaving.
25. When the LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and
Jebusites—the land he swore to your ancestors
to give you, a land flowing with milk and
honey—you are to observe this ceremony in
this month: For seven days eat bread made
without yeast and on the seventh day hold a
festival to the LORD. Eat unleavened bread
during those seven days; nothing with yeast in
it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast
be seen anywhere within your borders.
26. 8 On that day tell your son, 'I do this because of
what the LORD did for me when I came out of
Egypt.' This observance will be for you like a
sign on your hand and a reminder on your
forehead that this law of the LORD is to be on
your lips. For the LORD brought you out of
Egypt with his mighty hand. You must keep
this ordinance at the appointed time year after
year.
27. NIV These are the names of the sons
of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with
his family: Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah;
Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; Dan and
Naphtali; Gad and Asher. The descendants of
Jacob numbered seventy in all; Joseph was
already in Egypt. Now Joseph and all his
brothers and all that generation died, but the
Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied
greatly, increased in numbers and became so
numerous that the land was filled with them.
28. Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant
nothing, came to power in Egypt. "Look," he
said to his people, "the Israelites have become
far too numerous for us. Come, we must deal
shrewdly with them or they will become even
more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join
our enemies, fight against us and leave the
country." So they put slave masters over
them to oppress them with forced labor, and
they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities
for Pharaoh.
29. But the more they were oppressed, the more they
multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to
dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly.
They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in
brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the
fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked
them ruthlessly. The king of Egypt said to the
Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and
Puah, "When you are helping the Hebrew women
during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see
that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let
her live."
30. Between Eyes
NIV This observance will be for you
like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your
forehead that this law of the LORD is to be on
your lips. For the LORD brought you out of
Egypt with his mighty hand.
31. Lives are dictated by memory or lack of.
Have you ever been part of the great
“Here-after?”
You get up from your chair,
go into the next room and ask,
"What am I here after?"
32. God urges us to remember
NIV Remember your Creator in the
days of your youth, before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say, "I find no
pleasure in them"—
Lord's Supper
Eyes can help or hurt by what we “see”
& cause us to live in the here and now.
The 10 spies feared the giant warriors their eyes saw
& did not trust in the power of God to defeat them.
Eve saw the delicious forbidden fruit & believed a lie
desiring to have the knowledge of God NOW.
33. OR, we can look beyond to Jesus.
NIV Therefore, since we are
surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the
sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with
perseverance the race marked out for us,
34. Renew Minds via the Word
NIV Therefore, I urge you, brothers
and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to
God—this is your true and proper worship. Do
not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God's
will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
35. One Part was Worn on the Arm
(Action is required)
Danger of Tefillin -- Outward Only -- Trust in
article rather than God
Dr. George Faull noted in one of his newsletters
how easy it is to fall into this kind of thinking.
He said he'd heard that if you ate a Snickers
Candy bar (that's filled with calories) but then
you drank a diet cola (with no calories)... the
diet cola canceled out the calories of the candy
bar.
36. Faull went on to say that there are many
Christians who reason that way about their
faith.
Telling lies is cancelled out by attending church.
Being an abusive spouse can be balanced out
by teaching Sunday School.
Immoral behavior can be canceled out by giving
a gift (sizable gift) to the church.
Gossip is canceled when you give a check to
support a missionary.
37. When you refuse to forgive an enemy you can
cancel that out by being kind to the poor.
If you hate someone who's done you wrong...
you cancel that out by loving Jesus.
If you're a mean spirited and critical person...
you can cancel that by your love of worship
Silly isn't it? But there are people who do things
like that. They'll put their faith in little boxes that
they touch once in a while to assure themselves
they're being religious. But in the meantime,
they dishonor the Jesus they say they love.
38. A Symbol Designating the House as a
Holy Place
A Reminder to the Residents
A Declaration to those Outside
Faith is critical.
Faith is internal and external in practice.
39. Back in the 1800's there was a young man who
had a profound sense of admiration for his
father. His father saw to it that the life of the
family revolved around the religious practices of
their faith. In his teen years, however, the boy's
family was forced to move to another town in
Germany. The life of the community revolved
around the Lutheran church; all the best people
belonged to it.
40. Suddenly, the father announced to the family
that they were going to abandon their Jewish
traditions and join the Lutheran church.
When the stunned family asked why, the father
explained that it would be good for his
business.
The youngster was bewildered and confused.
His deep disappointment soon gave way to
anger and a kind of intense bitterness that
plagued him through his life.
("Developing the Leader Within You" by John Maxwell)
41. He became a parasite on society, a heavy
drinker, an adulterer (he never even went to his
wife's funeral) and two of his children
committed suicide.
He himself died bankrupt and in despair.
He accomplished nothing of any lasting
significance with his life... except for one book
that he wrote. It was entitled "Das Kapital".
In it he declared that "religion is the opiate of
the people".
42. The man was Karl Marx.
And his book "Das Kapital" became the
foundation of communism, and led to the
destruction of countless lives.
