iBeacons
What are iBeacons?
iBeacons are an Apple
standard for bluetooth
beacons - low energy
bluetooth devices that
can trigger events in
mobile apps or
operating systems
detected nearby.
How do iBeacons work?
iBeacons transmit a
unique identifier which
can be picked up by
mobile apps.
This allows devices to be
tracked and contextual
messages to be triggered
at varying distances from
the iBeacon.

Why might iBeacons be important?
iBeacons provide the
potential to target
consumers with
hyper-local,
contextual and
personal messages.
If used poorly,
consumers can
remove apps or turn
bluetooth off to block
unwelcome
communications.
