2. JIMMY CARTER
29TH PRESIDENT OF THE
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Carter joined the United States Navy
and served on submarines. He left the
Navy in 1953 to return to his home
state Georgia, where he worked as a
peanut farmer. He is distantly related
to Richard Nixon and Bill Gates.
He studied engineering in Georgia
before joining the Naval ROTC
program to continue his engineering
studies at the Georgia Institute of
Technology. He was later chosen for
the nuclear submarine program and
did graduate work in reactor
technology and nuclear physics.
3. ALFRED HITCHCOCK
FILM DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER
Alfred Hitchcock was the controversial
director and filmmaker who brought
us films such as Psycho, Rear Window
and Rebecca. He was a 5 times
Academy Award winner for Best
Director as well as countless other
awards and nominations.
However, before he entered the world
of film-making, Alfred was actually a
qualified engineer. He attended the
London County Council School of
Engineering and Navigation in Poplar,
London and then worked as a
draftsman with an electrical cable
company.
4. SCOTT ADAMS
CREATOR OF ‘DILBERT COMICS’
The cartoonist who created the famous and hilarious Dilbert Comics worked as a
programmer and software engineer (even though he was actually qualified in
economics and held an MBA). He published his first Dilbert comic strip in 1989.
5. HERBERT HOOVER
31ST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Herbert Hoover was a professional
mining engineer. Upon graduation he
took a job with Louis Janin, an expert on
western mining, which led him to work at
gold mines in Western Australia. Between
1902 and 1907, Hoover and his family
circled the globe five times during his
employment.
In 1908, Hoover became an independent
mining consultant and started his own
engineering consultancy and eventually
earned a small fortune exceeding $4
million.
He was inaugurated as President of the
United States on March 4, 1929.
6. NEIL ARMSTRONG
ASTRONAUT
The man who first set foot on the
moon on July 21, 1969 was an
engineer! Neil Armstrong studied
aeronautical engineering at Purdue
University. He also completed a
Master of Science in Aerospace
Engineering at the University of
Southern California. He was a
member of the National Academy of
Engineering.
7. ROWAN ATKINSON
ACTOR AND COMEDIAN
The hilarious comedian who was best known for his roles as Mr Bean and Blackadder is
a qualified engineer. He attended Newcastle University, where he received a degree in
Electrical Engineering, and later he received a MSc in Electrical Engineering from Oxford!

ACTOR
Before attending the London
Academy of Music and Dramatic Art,
Donald Sutherland actually graduated
from Victoria College, University of
Toronto with a double major in
engineering and drama. He quickly
changed his mind about becoming an
engineer, and left Canada for Britain
in 1957 to pursue acting.

BUSINESS MAGNATE AND 108TH
MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY
Michael Bloomberg graduated from
Johns Hopkins University in 1964 with
a Bachelor of Science in Electrical
Engineering.
He immediately embarked on an MBA
at Harvard Business School, which
started his path towards becoming
the 108th Mayor of New York City on
January 1, 2002
10. JEFF BEZOS
CEO OF AMAZON
Jeff graduated from Princeton
University with Bachelor of Science
degrees in electrical engineering and
computer science.
He founded Amazon.com in 1994
which is now valued at over $US140
billion. On July 27, 2017, Bezos briefly
become the world's richest person,
with an estimated net worth of over
$90 billion.
11. TERI HATCHER
ACTRESS
Teri Hatcher is the daughter of
computer programmer and a nuclear
physicist and electrical engineer.
She herself studied mathematics and
engineering at De Anza College
however quickly moved into acting
where she became one of the highest
paid television actresses in the US.
