Aever-evolving landscape of management
consulting—a seasoned Senior Engagement
Manager at Arthur D. Little who considers strategic
prowess paramount standing at the crossroads of
growth, cost reduction and transformative change.
Akshay steps in here armed with a wealth of experience
spanning close to 10 years of work experience in
management consulting covering traditional mobility
and new mobility services such as Electric vehicle,
decarbonization strategy, and alternate fuel study.

expertise in Opportunity Assessment and Feasibility
Analysis reflects a commitment to sculpting strategies
for enduring success in today’s dynamic corporate
landscape.
Let’s explore the nexus of growth and transformation,
where Akshay is crafting success stories for businesses in
collaboration!
Revolutionizing Mobility
Akshay shares insights into his diverse project portfolio
spanning both new and traditional mobility. He notes,
“I’ve tackled projects covering the entire value chain, be it in
the realm of new mobility or the conventional one.” In the
dynamic landscape of new mobility, he emphasizes the
significance of initiatives related to Electric Vehicles
(EV), decarbonization, circular economy, and alternate
fuel strategies.
Delving into a specific project, Akshay illuminates the
challenges faced during the commercial and business
due diligence of a local LiB OEM in Southeast Asia. He
observes a growing trend of regionalization in the LiB
battery supply chain posing hurdles for new entrants.
Akshay highlights the difficulty of penetrating a market
dominated by established players, especially in the
mobility sector.
Reflecting on a particularly challenging experience,
Akshay recounts the struggle to convince the target
company to adjust their original business plan. “It wasn’t
just about convincing them of their ‘aggressive plan, but
also offering a viable alternate strategy,” he remarks. The
proposed strategy involves a focus on customized
mobility and niche applications along with leveraging
non-price differentiators to gain market traction.
The project’s success lies in the client’s acceptance of
key recommendations, marking a rewarding experience
for Akshay. He stresses the importance of strategic
planning, foresight and risk management in navigating
such complex scenarios. As he succinctly puts it, “The
learning was multiple but broadly around strategic planning
and foresight and risk management.”
Collaborative Mantra
Akshay is a professional, navigating diverse industries
and finds intellectual stimulation in the convergence of
topics. He shares, “It allows me to see client issues from a
different perspective and gain insights into adjacent
industries.” Tackling these ‘convergence topics’ demands
an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach
fostering learning from colleagues across practices.
Akshay emphasizes, “I rely on a collaborative mantra to
address complex client problems.” The key is maintaining
clarity on client issues and engaging relevant experts,
both within and outside the firm for effective
brainstorming and optimal solution identification. This
collaborative ethos not only enhances problem-solving
but also contributes to ongoing professional
development. Akshay’s approach serves as a practical
guide for those navigating complex challenges in the
dynamic landscape of diverse industries.

stark contrast to the
original plan’s prolonged
timeline. Akshay’s strategic recommendation
showcases the adaptability crucial for success in the
ever-evolving landscape of electric mobility providing a
valuable lesson for industry enthusiasts and decision-
makers alike.
Innovative Approaches
In the service and knowledge industry, Akshay notes,
“Our contribution to the client is led by discussions
determining the scope of work.” Market analysis varies
based on this scope and client needs emphasizing the
identification of key segments, their size, growth
potential, and customer and competitor insights. In E-
mobility, regulatory analysis is crucial due to dynamic
regulations. Akshay underscores, “Risk analysis is
imperative for uncertain topics like E-mobility.”
When advising clients, he prioritizes a comprehensive
understanding of their requirements. “The foremost area
is focusing on understanding client needs for customized
recommendations.” This approach ensures tailored
solutions, a pivotal factor in the landscape of service
and knowledge industries. Akshay’s insights provide a
clear guide for professionals navigating diverse client
landscapes emphasizing adaptability and a client-
centric approach in delivering effective
recommendations. In addition to this, other aspects to
consider are:
Ÿ Tailor-made approach: This has become extremely
important as each client is different having their
own requirements and differences in terms of
readiness hence one size fits all approach doesn’t
exist.
Ÿ Long to mid-term perspective: Developing
strategies with a slightly long-term perspective or at
the very least few months beyond the project.
Ÿ Stakeholder engagement and buy-in: It is extremely
important to engage with different stakeholders
from the client side and not only the immediate
counterpart. In such cases, Akshay usually
volunteers to present the Project findings not only
to the immediate team but to other members so that
a general alignment and consensus exist within the
client.
Ÿ Pilot/market testing: If possible, one should also
consider a pilot testing or success-based fee
approach if feasible in the project to ensure a ‘skin in
the game’ approach to the client.
Building Trust, Delivering Value
In the realm of strategy consulting, Akshay asserts,
“Building and maintaining strong client relationships is
paramount.” Strategies employed include a blend of
strategic acumen, effective communication and a
general commitment to exceeding client expectations.
This approach proves essential, especially when
engaging with high-level client counterparts. Akshay’s
concise wisdom encapsulates the key pillars for success
in strategy consulting—strategic insight, clear
communication and a commitment to client
satisfaction.
To ensure they over-deliver client expectations, some
steps taken include:
Ÿ Understanding Client Needs: As previously
mentioned, a thorough understanding of client
business, industry, objective, and needs is essential.
This is usually done with comprehensive discussion,
stakeholder interviews, etc. Sometimes it does
happen that a project is conceived but the client also
does not understand their ‘key requirement’. In such
cases communication is key.
Ÿ Clear communication: Effective communication is
at the core of client relationships. Akshay always
tries to be transparent with my clients throughout
the engagement ensuring clients are informed about
project progress, challenges and updates.
“I try to build a
collaborative
environment where
the client counterpart
and team feel like a
valued partner in
developing the story of
their solution.”
Ÿ Regular Check-ins: As part of the project plan, we
do have ‘regular check-ins’ which are crucial to
keeping clients in the loop and gathering feedback.
These interactions go beyond project updates
providing Akshay an opportunity to understand
evolving client priorities and adjust the work
accordingly.
Ÿ Anticipation of Needs: These direct interactions
with clients through regular check-ins not only
benefit getting project feedback but also a deeper
understanding of client ‘real issues’ and
‘requirements.’ This in turn helps to anticipate client
needs on a more proactive basis. He is always
sharing news, articles and ideas with the clients
even outside or beyond the project so that clients
can always recall he remembered them. This further
showcases a forward-thinking approach which
clients today prefer as they don’t want to work with
advisors but ‘trusted advisors’ and helps to showcase
‘value demonstration.’ One should not only offer such
insights or knowledge when there is a project but
even during other times because this only deepens
the relationship with clients.
Ÿ Responsiveness and Accessibility: At a personal
level, Akshay is highly responsive and accessible
which is a non-negotiable with respect to his clients.
Clients need to feel assured that their concerns or
queries will be addressed promptly. This includes
being available for impromptu discussions and
maintaining an open line of communication.
Ÿ Collaborative Approach: Collaboration is
something he emphasizes not only with my
colleagues but also with the client. Akshay shares, “I
try to build a collaborative environment where the client
counterpart and team feel like a valued partner in
developing the story of their solution.” This involves
seeking their input, integrating their expertise and
jointly celebrating achievements whenever possible.
Ÿ Post-Project Follow-up: Lastly after a project
concludes Akshay engages in post-project follow-
ups with the client to assess the long-term impact of
the strategies. This is not possible all the time but
whenever it is it provides valuable feedback for him
personally but also demonstrates a commitment to
the client’s ongoing success.
The Rise of Regionalization
“E-mobility is disrupting the automotive industry,” declares
Akshay, emphasizing dynamic developments across the
value chain. Notably, advancements extend beyond LiB
technology with a shift towards solid-state and sodium-
ion technologies to diversify from China’s LiB
dominance. Akshay identifies a trend he terms the
‘Regionalization of LiB supply chain,’ as major countries
strive for independent LiB cell manufacturing
capabilities.
Additionally, non-traditional players are entering EV
production diversifying the market. Charging
infrastructure evolves, with battery swapping gaining
traction in emerging markets. Akshay foresees a surge
in innovative business models and service providers
entering the automotive value chain, expecting
accelerated collaboration trends among technology,
energy companies and startups in the years to come.
Transparency, Recognition and Growth
Effective leadership is quite important as a Senior
Manager in the consulting industry as one is balancing
the expectations of the senior (Partner, Principal), the
needs of the client and the requests of team members
in terms of professional development.
Akshay’s approach to inspiring and motivating the team
is focused on a few leadership principles listed below:
Ÿ Open and Transparent communication:
Transparent communication is essential for building
trust within the team and Akshay ensures that
information flows freely providing the team with
context and updates while acknowledging both
successes and failures.
Ÿ Recognition and appreciation: Recognizing and
appreciating the effort of any team member is
critical for motivation. Hence whenever possible
and budget permitting Akshay tries to celebrate
accomplishments with the team (big or small)
through project dinners etc. fostering a positive
team culture.
Ÿ Clear expectations and results: During the project,
Akshay aims to build a clear expectation with
tangible outcomes and milestones so that the team
has full clarity of what’s needed. In cases when
support is needed or a matter needs to be escalated,
Akshay regularly encourages members to speak up
so that no undue pressure is felt with the team or
loss in time or efficiency due to a lack of
understanding of expectations. Lastly, the work
expectations are aligned mutually so that they are
justified.
Ÿ Continuous feedback loop: Akshay states, “I engage
in regular check-in and informal feedback-sharing
sessions where the focus is not only giving feedback but
also receiving feedback so that the work plan of the
team can improve continuously.”
Ÿ Mentoring and professional development:
Although Akshay’s firm has a formal track of
mentorship for all my team members, he is always
willing to support them on an informal basis
regarding any aspect of professional development
where they are seeking guidance, training, or any
kind of informal support.
Wheels of Change
With extensive experience in E-mobility in India and
Southeast Asia, Akshay shares his notable distinctions.
“In India, the E-mobility revolution is driven by startups like
Ola and Ather, while in Southeast Asia, State-Owned
Enterprises take the lead,” he notes. India’s substantial
population creates an inherent demand, unlike
individual Southeast Asian countries leading to a more
collaborative approach. Akshay emphasizes that
Southeast Asian SOEs are open to strategic
partnerships globally. India’s existing automotive
brands provide a solid foundation, lacking in Southeast
Asia where government reliance on foreign companies’
strategies is prominent. While Vinfast emerges in
Southeast Asia fostering more regional brands is
crucial.
Akshay anticipates a unique challenge in Southeast
Asia attracting global tier 1 component suppliers
compared to India. “India’s massive demand base may
draw global suppliers for local manufacturing, serving
Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa posing a potential
challenge for Southeast Asia.” Akshay’s insights provide a
nuanced perspective on navigating the diverse
landscapes of E-mobility in India and Southeast Asia,
emphasizing collaborative opportunities and regional
nuances.
Strategies for Success
Initiating collaborative efforts, Akshay emphasizes,
“Arthur D. Little organizes activities like dinners, fostering
camaraderie and stronger interpersonal relationships.”
Clear communication is paramount, with Akshay
focusing on establishing very clear communication
channels accommodating different preferences.
Regular check-ins during projects and business
development activities allow for progress updates and
issue resolution.
“The role of a consultant
is now more of a
strategic advisor,
focusing not just on
recommendations but
on implementable
solutions.”
Akshay’s global exposure and Dual Masters’ degree
from esteemed institutions like the London School of
Economics and Yale School of Management contribute
to his cultural sensitivity. This sensitivity proves
invaluable in managing a diverse team leading to
enhanced problem-solving, improved client
relationships and the attraction of top talent seeking
inclusive environments. Akshay’s strategies highlight
the significance of collaboration, effective
communication and diversity in fostering innovation
and client satisfaction within the consulting landscape.
The Modern Consultant
In the contemporary consulting landscape, Akshay
asserts, “The role of a consultant is now more of a strategic
advisor, focusing not just on recommendations but on
implementable solutions.” This shift is particularly
pronounced in E-mobility, driven by the emergence of a
‘level playing field,’ prompting new industry entrants
seeking hands-on implementation support. The
automotive sector, especially in E-mobility faces rapid
transformation, necessitating recommendations that
endure disruption and stand the test of time.
Successful consultants must possess a blend of
essential skills. Akshay recommends cultivating deep
industry knowledge emphasizing specialization to meet
evolving client demands. Digital literacy is
indispensable, given the pervasive impact of
digitalization across sectors. He underscores the
importance of data analytics proficiency for informed
decision-making. Additionally, consultants play a vital
role in opportunity sizing and prioritization,
contributing to strategic business growth.
Effective communication and a client-centric mindset
remain paramount. As Akshay notes, these skills are
foundational for understanding clients’ unique
challenges and delivering tailored solutions. In the
evolving consulting landscape, professionals must align
with these skill sets to navigate industry nuances
successfully.
The Power Play
Akshay underscores the critical importance of battery
recycling amidst current developments, stating,
“Battery recycling may be most critical going forward.” The
potential demand surge in electric vehicles (EVs) poses
a risk of supply shortage for critical LiB materials
making recycling pivotal.
Additionally, the concentration of LiB materials in
specific regions calls for a diversified supply chain
favoring battery recycling for material sourcing and de-
risking. Potential export restrictions by material-
endowed countries further elevate the importance of
recycling.
Akshay anticipates that these challenges will drive
innovation in battery recycling economics, becoming
favorable in the coming decade. With the rise of circular
economy principles, emphasizing the 3R approach
(Recycle, Reuse and Reduce), primary material demand,
especially in EV emission life cycles, is likely to decrease
making battery recycling a key player in sustainable
resource management.
In the Automotive world, every design
tells a story of speed, style and
engineering.

Leadership in E-Mobility
According to Angela, the approach to leadership in the
realm of E-Mobility is not fundamentally different from
leadership in other domains. Leadership requires
individuals who can effectively guide their teams, and
there isn't a one-size-fits-all style that works
universally. Different leaders may have varying styles,
and what resonates with one person may not be as
effective for another.
Over the years, Angela has shifted her focus from
inspiring people to make the shift toward sustainable
practices to providing comprehensive reasons and
strategies that make sense. In the current landscape,
the conversation has moved beyond the why and what
of E-Mobility; it's now centered on the how.
Discussions need to address financial aspects, supply
chain considerations, and business models. Angela
emphasizes that if organizations are still contemplating
whether to invest in E-Mobility, they may face
challenges in staying competitive.
Driving Collaboration
Angela underscores the interconnected nature of
challenges in the sustainability and E-Mobility space,
emphasizing that meaningful progress cannot be
achieved in isolation. She recognizes the complexity of
the issues at hand and the need for collaboration across
the entire ecosystem. Angela sees her role as an
opportunity to facilitate collaboration and bring
together diverse stakeholders.

Bringing people together and guiding them toward the
right collaborative projects is a central aspect of
Angela's work. She emphasizes the importance of
engaging stakeholders from various sectors,
highlighting the need for a collective and
comprehensive approach to create real change. For
Angela, a successful day is one where she contributes to
fostering collaboration that leads to tangible and
positive transformations in the pursuit of sustainable
and electric mobility.
Learning and Listening
Angela emphasizes the value of continuous learning,
viewing knowledge as a valuable commodity. She
advocates listening more than speaking, recognizing
the importance of diverse perspectives. With two ears
and one mouth, Angela encourages active listening and
avoiding echo chambers. Acknowledging the
abundance of shared knowledge, she stresses the need
to explore opposing thoughts for a well-rounded
understanding, promoting a healthy and informed
approach to navigating the complex landscape of
sustainability.
Sustainable Mobility
In her leadership role, Angela seamlessly incorporates
environmental and social considerations into decision-
making. Prioritizing sustainability, e-mobility emerges
as a key solution for decarbonizing transport. While
acknowledging imperfections, Angela underscores the
need for green energy, addressing material emissions,
and tackling human rights issues related to batteries.
Despite existing challenges, she emphasizes the
imperative to invest, adopt, and scale e-mobility until a
more effective solution emerges. This approach aligns
with her commitment to advancing sustainability within
the complex landscape of mobility.
Call for Comprehensive Collaboration
Angela emphasizes the need to consider regional
variations, pointing out that mobility differs not only
due to regulations but also in its definition. She notes
the prevalent focus on new car sales in the north-
western regions, highlighting the diverse nature of
mobility in many parts of the world, encompassing
various modes such as 2 and 3 wheelers, public
transportation, shared mobility, and informal
transportation.
While acknowledging the crucial role of e-mobility in
decarbonization, Angela stresses the importance of
collaboration, asserting that no single entity can tackle
the challenge alone. She calls for the collective efforts
of policy makers, the energy sector, cities,
infrastructure, real estate companies, the automotive
sector, consumers, the finance sector, and others to
address the entire system. Angela points out that the
complexity of the challenge goes beyond a simple
engine replacement, underscoring the necessity for a
comprehensive approach.
Advancing Women's Visibility in Transportation
Angela observes a positive shift with increased visibility
of women in the transportation industry, marking
progress from being often the sole woman in meetings.
While acknowledging the industry's male-dominated
nature, she emphasizes the importance of visibility for
aspiring women, recognizing the impact of role models.
Angela advocates for diversity, emphasizing its
inherent benefits in problem-solving. She values a
diverse team for the multitude of ideas it brings,
fostering collaboration to generate innovative solutions
to challenges, contrasting it with potential limitations in
a less diverse team.
Innovating for Tomorrow
Angela emphasizes the importance of staying inspired
and fostering a culture of innovation within the
Kearney team as they tackle the challenges and
opportunities presented by E-Mobility. The team
recognizes the urgent need to decarbonize mobility and
acknowledges that existing technologies can contribute
to this goal if they are scaled and adopted rapidly.
Moreover, Angela sees significant opportunities in
deploying new technologies to enhance the impact of
sustainability efforts. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is
identified as a transformative tool that can improve
vehicles, make transportation smarter, influence
behaviors, and ensure the integrity of supply chains
from a human rights perspective. Angela's forward-
looking approach includes remaining open to the
possibility that even better solutions than electric
vehicles (EVs) may emerge, and the team is ready to
pivot and deploy those solutions if they prove to be
more effective. This adaptive and innovation-driven
mindset positions Kearney to explore diverse
technological avenues for sustainable mobility.

turnkey solutions to remove the emission transition
headache and keep fleets on the road all while paving
the way for a sustainable future in transportation.
Towards Zero Emissions
“After advising on over 20,000 fleet vehicles from all
corners of the world, it became clear that the road to zero
emissions is fragmented, complicated and filled with many
roadblocks,” says Naeem. FleetZero was intentionally
designed to be the trusted advisor for fleets,
governments, utilities and capital providers.
“Our services span from advising on how to reduce
transportation emissions to supporting implementation,”
Naeem explains. “We serve as a liaison to address
infrastructure needs, connecting capital when needed and
providing maintenance process support, training, and
insulated tools.”
Naeem emphasizes that FleetZero’s focus is on
ensuring vehicles remain on the road in a safe and
sustainable manner. This is reflected in its slogan, ‘Zero
emissions, zero headaches.’
Sustainable Solutions
Naeem explains that taking fleets to zero emissions
involves systems change. What this means is that
different financial, technical, social and value systems

need to align to ensure fleet, infrastructure, facility,
stakeholders, environment, and economics are all
considered and calibrated to meet specific objectives.
“We call this the FleetZero Playbook (sm) and leverage
diverse skills, such as asset management, supply chains and
finance, to find the right pathway for fleets to navigate,”
Naeem states. “My diversified background and our team
approach bring these various perspectives and experience
under one roof to ensure our clients have the right experts
at the right time.”
Maintenance Matters
“My research has found that with each improvement in
vehicle emissions standard, there has been an increase in
vehicle maintenance costs,” reveals Naeem. This can
affect asset reliability as new technologies and vehicle
components make vehicles far more complex than with
previous models.
This insight has shaped how FleetZero develops
proprietary technologies to drill into asset lifecycle and
inform how low/zero-emission vehicle components
should be selected. Naeem explains that it also shapes
why FleetZero is very focused on working with fleets
throughout the transition, especially to develop
maintenance processes and standard operating
procedures when alternative propulsion technologies
are introduced.
In Tune with Change
“I try to keep a pulse by using platforms like LinkedIn to
read updates from industry, clients and peers,” says Naeem.
In addition, he listens to podcasts like the Journal (by
WSJ) to stay on top of broader trends that can
influence zero-emission mobility.
Partnerships for Progress
“Listening is key to understanding what works, what doesn’t
and emerging potential pain points for clients and their
stakeholders,” emphasizes Naeem. This is crucial to
building trust. Often this means listening for what is not
said but can become a challenge.
For example, several clients have purchased battery-
electric buses and are now beginning to receive
vehicles into their fleet. Naeem elaborates, “At
FleetZero, we know that maintenance processes will need
to be modified and that staff must be given the appropriate
insulated tooling and personal protective equipment to be
kept safe while working around high-voltage systems.”
As a trusted advisor, Naeem works with clients to
identify these pending needs and craft solutions that
work for them. Naeem adds that additionally, FleetZero
is active in various industry organizations to share
knowledge and give back. One example is Partnerships
in Project Green in Toronto, where the work on
environmental mandates around tree planting along
with educating and training.
Investing in Knowledge
Education and upskilling are important in the future of
e-mobility. Naeem stresses, “We work to advance both
aims by partnering with different academic institutions to
conduct applied research as well as deliver unique learning
opportunities for students.”
FleetZero also develops and delivers custom training
for clients and the general public by participating in
industry-wide fleet-informed workshops. Naeem adds,
“Our goal is to ensure that individuals have the knowledge
and skills necessary to thrive in the evolving landscape of e-
mobility.”
Optimizing the Journey
Leadership is about seeing the bigger picture and
guiding others to do so as well. Naeem states, “I
encourage our staff to innovate and engage in out-of-the-
box thinking.”
In an evolving and fast-paced area such as
transportation decarbonization, Naeem believes it is
critical to question assumptions and look to alternative
disciplines for inspiration. Naeem also shares that this
enables the teams to be agnostic to different
propulsion technologies and focus on what is the
optimal solution for a fleet given its objectives and
constraints, whether it be battery electric, hydrogen
fuel cell, or another technology.
Learning from Experience
“I believe that creating a culture of learning is key to
developing and implementing innovative solutions,”

40
emphasizes Naeem. This involves learning from
research and industry through traditional means as well
as by learning through experience and immersion in
different fleet ecosystems.
“At FleetZero, I support a boots-on-the-ground approach
where our staff will regularly visit maintenance shops,
OEMs and different chargers or refueling stations to gather
real-world insights,” Naeem explains. He also instills a
stakeholder-centered approach where staff learn by
speaking and learning from individuals from a vast
array of disciplines, geographies and roles, whether it
be at the C-suite or the maintenance shop floor.
Naeem adds enthusiastically that one of the favorite
team-building activities is annual automobile and fleet
show visits to understand the transition to alternative
fuel vehicles by mainstream OEMs.
Innovating for a Greener Tomorrow
Thought leadership serves as a catalyst for broader
discussions within the zero-emission industry.
Naeem expresses, “I particularly like using it to connect
different concepts that many have yet to consider.”
For example, knowing the lead time to replace an
electric vehicle’s battery can affect the number of spare
vehicles, maintenance processes and the decision to
buy versus lease. Naeem explains, “I am working on a few
upcoming publications that dig into safety and
maintenance processes for battery-electric and hydrogen
fuel cell vehicle technologies.”
In its first year, FleetZero signed over 10 strategic
partnerships and launched offices in three countries.
Naeem proudly states, “Additionally, we were the
recipient of Canada’s EV Sales & Distribution award from
Plug’n Drive and Electrify Canada for 2023. We pride
ourselves on the associations we are a member of and
giving back to our community.”

Green on the Go
s the world faces increasing concerns about climate change and air pollution, the
Atransition to electric mobility (e-mobility) is emerging as a key solution to mitigate
environmental impacts associated with transportation. This article delves into the
environmental benefits of e-mobility, highlighting how electric vehicles (EVs) and other
forms of electrified transportation contribute to a cleaner, greener future.
Exploring the
of
Environmental Benefits
E-Mobility
www.ciolook.com | March 2024 |
42
Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions:
One of the primary environmental benefits of e-mobility is
the significant reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions compared to traditional internal combustion
engine vehicles. Electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe
emissions during operation, leading to lower carbon
dioxide (CO2) emissions and mitigating the transportation
sector's contribution to global warming and climate
change.
Improving Air Quality:
Electric vehicles contribute to improved air quality by
eliminating harmful pollutants emitted by conventional
vehicles, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate
matter (PM), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). By
reducing air pollution, e-mobility helps to protect public
health, reduce respiratory illnesses, and enhance overall
environmental quality in urban areas.
Minimizing Noise Pollution:
Electric vehicles are quieter than traditional vehicles
powered by internal combustion engines, leading to
reduced noise pollution in urban environments. The
absence of engine noise from EVs contributes to quieter
streets, less traffic-related noise disturbance, and
improved quality of life for residents living near busy
roads or highways.
Conserving Natural Resources:
E-mobility promotes resource conservation by reducing
dependence on finite fossil fuels and minimizing the
environmental impacts associated with extracting,
refining, and transporting petroleum-based fuels. By
utilizing electricity from renewable energy sources such
as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, electric vehicles
help to conserve natural resources and promote energy
sustainability.
Enhancing Energy Efficiency:
Electric vehicles are inherently more energy-efficient
than internal combustion engine vehicles, with electric
drivetrains converting a higher percentage of energy from
the grid into propulsion compared to gasoline or diesel
engines. Improved energy efficiency in e-mobility
translates to reduced energy consumption, lower

43
operating costs, and decreased reliance on fossil fuels
for transportation.
Supporting Renewable Energy Integration:
The adoption of electric vehicles facilitates the
integration of renewable energy sources into the
transportation sector by providing a flexible and
scalable demand-side resource for grid balancing and
energy storage. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure
can be intelligently managed to align with periods of
high renewable energy generation, maximizing the
utilization of clean power sources.
Fostering Sustainable Urban Mobility:
E-mobility plays a crucial role in fostering sustainable
urban mobility solutions, including electric public
transit, shared electric mobility services, and
micromobility options such as electric bicycles and
scooters. By electrifying transportation modes in cities,
e-mobility initiatives contribute to reducing traffic
congestion, improving accessibility, and promoting
multimodal transportation systems.
Driving Innovation and Technological Advancement:
The transition to e-mobility drives innovation and
technological advancement in the automotive industry,
spurring research and development into battery
technology, electric drivetrains, charging
infrastructure, and smart mobility solutions. By
investing in e-mobility technologies, manufacturers,
startups, and policymakers contribute to a more
sustainable and resilient transportation ecosystem.
Mitigating Urban Heat Island Effect:
Electric vehicles contribute to mitigating the urban
heat island effect by reducing the heat generated from
vehicle exhaust and engine operation in urban areas.
With fewer internal combustion engine vehicles
emitting heat, cities experience lower temperatures
and decreased heat retention, leading to cooler and
more comfortable urban environments.
Promoting Environmental Justice and Equity:
E-mobility initiatives have the potential to promote
environmental justice and equity by reducing exposure
to air pollution and noise in underserved communities
disproportionately affected by transportation-related
environmental hazards. By prioritizing electrification
efforts in environmental justice areas, policymakers can
address disparities in environmental health and
advance social equity goals.
Creating Green Jobs and Economic Opportunities:
The transition to e-mobility creates green jobs and
economic opportunities in manufacturing, research and
development, infrastructure deployment, and related
industries. Investments in electric vehicle production,
battery manufacturing, and charging infrastructure
construction stimulate economic growth, create
employment opportunities, and drive innovation in
clean transportation technologies.
Encouraging Active Transportation and Healthy
Lifestyles:
E-mobility initiatives encourage active transportation
and healthy lifestyles by promoting walking, cycling,
and other forms of non-motorized transportation
alongside electric vehicles. Electric bicycles, scooters,
and shared micromobility services complement electric
vehicles, providing environmentally friendly
alternatives for short-distance travel and reducing
reliance on fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
Supporting Wildlife Conservation and Biodiversity:
The transition to e-mobility supports wildlife
conservation and biodiversity by reducing habitat
fragmentation, wildlife mortality from vehicle
collisions, and noise disturbances associated with
conventional vehicles. Electric vehicles contribute to
preserving natural landscapes, protecting wildlife
habitats, and fostering coexistence between human
activities and ecosystems.
Empowering Community Engagement and
Participation:
E-mobility initiatives empower community engagement
and participation in shaping sustainable transportation
solutions that meet the needs and preferences of local
residents. Community-led initiatives, participatory
planning processes, and stakeholder engagement
forums enable communities to influence decision-
making, advocate for sustainable mobility options, and
contribute to the transition to e-mobility.

  • 12. kshay Prasad is an emerging key player in the Aever-evolving landscape of management consulting—a seasoned Senior Engagement Manager at Arthur D. Little who considers strategic prowess paramount standing at the crossroads of growth, cost reduction and transformative change. Akshay steps in here armed with a wealth of experience spanning close to 10 years of work experience in management consulting covering traditional mobility and new mobility services such as Electric vehicle, decarbonization strategy, and alternate fuel study. Akshay excels in Business Model Benchmarking, Competitor Analysis and Go-to-Market Strategy. His expertise in Opportunity Assessment and Feasibility Analysis reflects a commitment to sculpting strategies for enduring success in today’s dynamic corporate landscape. Let’s explore the nexus of growth and transformation, where Akshay is crafting success stories for businesses in collaboration! Revolutionizing Mobility Akshay shares insights into his diverse project portfolio spanning both new and traditional mobility. He notes, “I’ve tackled projects covering the entire value chain, be it in the realm of new mobility or the conventional one.” In the dynamic landscape of new mobility, he emphasizes the significance of initiatives related to Electric Vehicles (EV), decarbonization, circular economy, and alternate fuel strategies. Delving into a specific project, Akshay illuminates the challenges faced during the commercial and business due diligence of a local LiB OEM in Southeast Asia. He observes a growing trend of regionalization in the LiB battery supply chain posing hurdles for new entrants. Akshay highlights the difficulty of penetrating a market dominated by established players, especially in the mobility sector. Reflecting on a particularly challenging experience, Akshay recounts the struggle to convince the target company to adjust their original business plan. “It wasn’t just about convincing them of their ‘aggressive plan, but also offering a viable alternate strategy,” he remarks. The proposed strategy involves a focus on customized mobility and niche applications along with leveraging non-price differentiators to gain market traction. The project’s success lies in the client’s acceptance of key recommendations, marking a rewarding experience for Akshay. He stresses the importance of strategic planning, foresight and risk management in navigating such complex scenarios. As he succinctly puts it, “The learning was multiple but broadly around strategic planning and foresight and risk management.” Collaborative Mantra Akshay is a professional, navigating diverse industries and finds intellectual stimulation in the convergence of topics. He shares, “It allows me to see client issues from a different perspective and gain insights into adjacent industries.” Tackling these ‘convergence topics’ demands an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach fostering learning from colleagues across practices. Akshay emphasizes, “I rely on a collaborative mantra to address complex client problems.” The key is maintaining clarity on client issues and engaging relevant experts, both within and outside the firm for effective brainstorming and optimal solution identification. This collaborative ethos not only enhances problem-solving but also contributes to ongoing professional development. Akshay’s approach serves as a practical guide for those navigating complex challenges in the dynamic landscape of diverse industries. “My involvement with the Automotive industry at Arthur D. Little keeps me updated on E-Mobility through projects and internal seminars.”
  • 13. Elevating the Future Passionate about Automotive and New Mobility, particularly E- Mobility, Akshay emphasizes, “Decarbonization efforts are crucial, given the transport sector’s significant contribution to emissions (24% as per IEA in 2019).” As economic growth and urbanization surge, the demand for ‘mobility/travel’ rises, making E-Mobility and alternate fuel strategies pivotal for sustainable progress on a societal and national level. To stay abreast of industry advancements, Akshay employs a multifaceted approach. “My involvement with the Automotive industry at Arthur D. Little keeps me updated on E-Mobility through projects and internal seminars,” he shares. Regular reading on automotive topics, active participation in industry communities on LinkedIn and the publication of thought leadership further enrich his knowledge. Actively engaging in E-Mobility conferences across Southeast Asia, Akshay ensures he’s at the forefront of the latest developments connecting with industry experts and policymakers for invaluable insights. Akshay’s commitment showcases a comprehensive strategy for staying informed and contributing to the dynamic landscape of E-Mobility. Swift and Strategic Recalling a notable project, Akshay reflects, “We supported a new entrant in Southeast Asia’s electric two-wheeler market, a challenging task due to specific client needs.” The client aspired to collaborate with a battery-swapping market leader driven by a B2B ride-hailing agreement. However, the proposed arrangement proved unprofitable and time constraints ruled out in-house development. Akshay’s solution? “I recommended procuring full electric two- wheeler kits from China—an affordable and timely alternative aligning with the end consumer’s needs.” The revised business case not only ensured a swift market entry but also promised a positive ROI from project commencement, a stark contrast to the original plan’s prolonged
  • 14. timeline. Akshay’s strategic recommendation showcases the adaptability crucial for success in the ever-evolving landscape of electric mobility providing a valuable lesson for industry enthusiasts and decision- makers alike. Innovative Approaches In the service and knowledge industry, Akshay notes, “Our contribution to the client is led by discussions determining the scope of work.” Market analysis varies based on this scope and client needs emphasizing the identification of key segments, their size, growth potential, and customer and competitor insights. In E- mobility, regulatory analysis is crucial due to dynamic regulations. Akshay underscores, “Risk analysis is imperative for uncertain topics like E-mobility.” When advising clients, he prioritizes a comprehensive understanding of their requirements. “The foremost area is focusing on understanding client needs for customized recommendations.” This approach ensures tailored solutions, a pivotal factor in the landscape of service and knowledge industries. Akshay’s insights provide a clear guide for professionals navigating diverse client landscapes emphasizing adaptability and a client- centric approach in delivering effective recommendations. In addition to this, other aspects to consider are: Ÿ Tailor-made approach: This has become extremely important as each client is different having their own requirements and differences in terms of readiness hence one size fits all approach doesn’t exist. Ÿ Long to mid-term perspective: Developing strategies with a slightly long-term perspective or at the very least few months beyond the project. Ÿ Stakeholder engagement and buy-in: It is extremely important to engage with different stakeholders from the client side and not only the immediate counterpart. In such cases, Akshay usually volunteers to present the Project findings not only to the immediate team but to other members so that a general alignment and consensus exist within the client. Ÿ Pilot/market testing: If possible, one should also consider a pilot testing or success-based fee approach if feasible in the project to ensure a ‘skin in the game’ approach to the client. Building Trust, Delivering Value In the realm of strategy consulting, Akshay asserts, “Building and maintaining strong client relationships is paramount.” Strategies employed include a blend of strategic acumen, effective communication and a general commitment to exceeding client expectations. This approach proves essential, especially when engaging with high-level client counterparts. Akshay’s concise wisdom encapsulates the key pillars for success in strategy consulting—strategic insight, clear communication and a commitment to client satisfaction. To ensure they over-deliver client expectations, some steps taken include: Ÿ Understanding Client Needs: As previously mentioned, a thorough understanding of client business, industry, objective, and needs is essential. This is usually done with comprehensive discussion, stakeholder interviews, etc. Sometimes it does happen that a project is conceived but the client also does not understand their ‘key requirement’. In such cases communication is key. Ÿ Clear communication: Effective communication is at the core of client relationships. Akshay always tries to be transparent with my clients throughout the engagement ensuring clients are informed about project progress, challenges and updates. “I try to build a collaborative environment where the client counterpart and team feel like a valued partner in developing the story of their solution.”
  • 15. Ÿ Regular Check-ins: As part of the project plan, we do have ‘regular check-ins’ which are crucial to keeping clients in the loop and gathering feedback. These interactions go beyond project updates providing Akshay an opportunity to understand evolving client priorities and adjust the work accordingly. Ÿ Anticipation of Needs: These direct interactions with clients through regular check-ins not only benefit getting project feedback but also a deeper understanding of client ‘real issues’ and ‘requirements.’ This in turn helps to anticipate client needs on a more proactive basis. He is always sharing news, articles and ideas with the clients even outside or beyond the project so that clients can always recall he remembered them.
