Animal models are necessary tools for solving the most serious challenges facing medical
research. In aging and neurodegenerative disease studies, rodents occupy a place of
choice. However, the most challenging questions about longevity, the complexity and
functioning of brain networks or social intelligence can almost only be investigated in
nonhuman primates. Beside the fact that their brain structure is much closer to that of
humans, they develop highly complex cognitive strategies and they are visually-oriented
like humans. For these reasons, they deserve consideration, although their management
and care are more complicated and the related costs much higher. Despite these caveats,
considerable scientific advances have been possible using nonhuman primates. This
review concisely summarizes their role in the study of aging and of the mechanisms
involved in neurodegenerative disorders associated mainly with cognitive dysfunctions
(Alzheimer’s and prion diseases) or motor deficits (Parkinson’s and related diseases).

WHY DO WE NEED ANIMAL MODELS?
The simplest answer to this question is to increase our general
knowledge, to experimentally test theories. Animal model use-
fulness is manifold, from the study of physiological processes to
the identification of disease-causing mechanisms. Indeed, phys-
iopathological studies are of the utmost importance for develop-
ing diagnostic and therapeutic approaches based on the discovery
of new, more sensitive and specific biomarkers, the identifica-
tion of the mechanism of action of drugs, the establishment of
pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic parameters, the toxic-
ity analysis of new compounds or the assessment of clinical drug
regimens.
Many different animal models, ranging from unicellular
organisms (bacteria, yeast) to invertebrates (the roundworm

NIRS-BASED CORTICAL ACTIVATION ANALYSIS BY TEMPORAL CROSS CORRELATION
In this study we present a method of signal processing to determine dominant channels in near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). To compare measuring channels and identify delays between them, cross correlation is computed. Furthermore, to find out possible dominant channels, a visual inspection was performed. The
outcomes demonstrated that the visual inspection exhibited evoked-related activations in the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) after stimulation which is consistent with comparable studies and the cross correlation study discovered dominant channels on both cerebral hemispheres. The analysis also showed a relationship between dominant channels and adjacent channels. For that reason, our results present a new
method to identify dominant regions in the cerebral cortex using near-infrared spectroscopy. These findings have also implications in the decrease of channels by eliminating irrelevant channels for the experiment.

3.Glia cells are non-neuronal cells in the central nervous system and do not produce electrical impulses. Glia cells maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and provide support and protection for neurons. Glia cells are divided into two groups, microglia cells and macroglia cells; Macroglia cells can be further divided into astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. Microglia cells act as a primary immune defense of the central nervous system, travel and remove damaged substances, pathogens, or other foreign substances. Glia cells also play a role in neurotransmission and synaptic connections and the physiological processes of breathing. Astrocytes are star-shaped glia cells with many functions, including providing nutrient support to the neurons, helping repair damaged nervous system tissue, regulating communication between neurons, and maintaining blood-brain barriers. Oligodendrocytes are responsible for axonal regulation and the generation and maintenance of the myelin sheath that surrounds axons (Hooper & Pocock, 2020)

This study found that 22% of healthy adult Chinese participants exhibited a pattern of low-latency reflexive eye movements, known as "express saccades", in a task designed to inhibit such responses. Animal models are necessary tools for solving the most serious challenges facing medical
research. In aging and neurodegenerative disease studies, rodents occupy a place of
choice. However, the most challenging questions about longevity, the complexity and
functioning of brain networks or social intelligence can almost only be investigated in
nonhuman primates. Beside the fact that their brain structure is much closer to that of
humans, they develop highly complex cognitive strategies and they are visually-oriented
like humans. For these reasons, they deserve consideration, although their management
and care are more complicated and the related costs much higher. Despite these caveats,
considerable scientific advances have been possible using nonhuman primates. This
review concisely summarizes their role in the study of aging and of the mechanisms
involved in neurodegenerative disorders associated mainly with cognitive dysfunctions
(Alzheimer’s and prion diseases) or motor deficits (Parkinson’s and related diseases).

WHY DO WE NEED ANIMAL MODELS?
The simplest answer to this question is to increase our general
knowledge, to experimentally test theories. Animal model use-
fulness is manifold, from the study of physiological processes to
the identification of disease-causing mechanisms. Indeed, phys-
iopathological studies are of the utmost importance for develop-
ing diagnostic and therapeutic approaches based on the discovery
of new, more sensitive and specific biomarkers, the identifica-
tion of the mechanism of action of drugs, the establishment of
pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic parameters, the toxic-
ity analysis of new compounds or the assessment of clinical drug
regimens.
Many different animal models, ranging from unicellular
organisms (bacteria, yeast) to invertebrates (the roundworm

NIRS-BASED CORTICAL ACTIVATION ANALYSIS BY TEMPORAL CROSS CORRELATION
In this study we present a method of signal processing to determine dominant channels in near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). To compare measuring channels and identify delays between them, cross correlation is computed. Furthermore, to find out possible dominant channels, a visual inspection was performed. The
outcomes demonstrated that the visual inspection exhibited evoked-related activations in the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) after stimulation which is consistent with comparable studies and the cross correlation study discovered dominant channels on both cerebral hemispheres. The analysis also showed a relationship between dominant channels and adjacent channels. For that reason, our results present a new
method to identify dominant regions in the cerebral cortex using near-infrared spectroscopy. These findings have also implications in the decrease of channels by eliminating irrelevant channels for the experiment.

Astrocytes are star-shaped glia cells with many functions, including providing nutrient support to the neurons, helping repair damaged nervous system tissue, regulating communication between neurons, and maintaining blood-brain barriers. When thinking of purchasing and buying, one may think that the terms mean the same thing. Purchasing, however, is significantly different from buying in that the process refers to buying specific goods or services that will be used by the organization (Benton, 2014). Conversely, buying refers to “procuring items for resale” (Benton, 2014, p. 141). The typical steps in the purchasing cycle are as followed:
1. Identifying the need
2. Specify how much and when the product is needed by
3. Write the purchase order
4. Obtain financial approval
5. Research suppliers
6. Chose the supplier
7. Establish price and terms
8. Place the order
9. Receive the order
10. Approve and pay
11. Update inventory

Last year, I was involved in an RFP process to determine a new vendor for our relocation program. Each of the steps listed above were apparent throughout the process. The need for the new vendor came from declining service from our then current vendor. We determined that we wanted the new vendor to start providing service in the first quarter of 2020. Relocation vendors were researched and after presentations, a new vendor was identified. The new vendor then supplied a contract with SLA’s and pricing. Once the contract was approved, the vendor started providing the services.
Through this process, I worked with a procurement manager. She used software called Scout to research vendors, initiate the RFP, and collect responses. The software was helpful in making the process easier and more efficient.
