‘VASUDHAIVA
KUTUMBAKAM’
– these two words capture a
deep philosophy. It means ‘the
world is one family’. This is an
all-embracing outlook that en-
courages us to progress as one
universal family, transcending
borders, languages, and ideolo-
gies. During India’s G20 Presi-
dency, this has translated into a
call for human-centric progress.
As One Earth, we are coming
together to nurture our planet.
AsOneFamily,wesupporteach
other in the pursuit of growth.
And we move together towards
a shared future - One Future -
which is an undeniable truth in
these interconnected times.
The post-pandemic world or-
der is very different from the
world before it. There are three
importantchanges,amongothers.
First, there is a growing reali-
sation that a shift away from a
GDP-centricviewoftheworldto
a human-centric view is needed.
Second, the world is recog-
nizing the importance of resil-
ience and reliability in global
supply chains.
Third, there is a collective
call for boosting multilateral-
ism through the reform of glob-
al institutions.
Our G20 Presidency has
played the role of a catalyst in
these shifts.
In December 2022, when we
took over the Presidency from
Indonesia, I had written that a
mindset shift must be catalysed
by the G20. This was especially
needed in the context of main-
streamingthemarginalizedaspi-
rations of developing countries,
the Global South andAfrica.
The Voice of Global South
Summit, which witnessed par-
ticipation from 125 countries,
was one of the foremost initia-
tives under our Presidency. It
was an important exercise to
gather inputs and ideas from the
Global South. Further, our Pres-
idency has not only seen the
largest-ever participation from
African countries but
hasalsopushedfortheinclusion
of the African Union as a per-
manent member of the G20.
An interconnected world
means our challenges across do-
mains are interlinked.This is the
midwayyearofthe2030Agenda
and many are noting with great
concern that the progress on
SDGsisoff-track.TheG202023
ActionPlanonAcceleratingPro-
gress on SDGs will spearhead
the future direction of the G20
towards implementing SDGs.
In India, living in harmony
with nature has been a norm
since ancient times and we
have been contributing our
share towards climate action
even in modern times.
Many countries of the Glob-
al South are at various stages of
development and climate ac-
tion must be a complementary
pursuit. Ambitions for climate
action must be matched with
actions on climate finance and
transfer of technology.
We believe there is a need to
move away from a purely re-
strictive attitude of what should
not be done, to a more con-
structive attitude focusing on
what can be done to fight cli-
mate change.
The Chennai HLPs for a
Sustainable and Resilient Blue
Economy focus on keeping our
oceans healthy.
Aglobal ecosystem for clean
and green hydrogen will
emerge from our presidency,
along with a Green Hydrogen
Innovation Centre.
In 2015, we launched the In-
ternational Solar Alliance.
Now, through the Global Bio-
fuels Alliance, we will support
the world to enable energy
transitions in tune with the ben-
efits of a circular economy.
Democratising climate action
is the best way to impart mo-
mentum to the movement. Just
as individuals make daily deci-
sions based on their long-term
health, they can make lifestyle
decisions based on the impact
on the planet’s long-term health.
Just like Yoga became a global
mass movement for wellness,
we have also nudged the world
with Lifestyles for Sustainable
Environment (LiFE).
Due to the impact of climate
change, ensuring food and nu-
tritional security will be cru-
cial. Millets, or Shree Anna,
can help with this while also
boosting climate-smart agricul-
ture. In the International Year
of Millets, we have taken mil-
lets to global palates. The Dec-
can High Level Principles on
Food Security and Nutrition is
also helpful in this direction.
Technology is transforma-
tive but it also needs to be made
inclusive. In the past, the ben-
efits of technological advance-
ments have not benefited all
sections of society equally. In-
dia, over the last few years, has
shown how technology can be
leveraged to narrow inequali-
ties, rather than widen them.
For instance, the billions
across the world that remain un-
banked,orlackdigitalidentities,
can be financially included
throughdigitalpublicinfrastruc-
ture (DPI). The solutions we
have built using our DPI have
now been recognised globally.
Now, through the G20, we will
helpdevelopingcountriesadapt,
build, and scale DPI to unlock
the power of inclusive growth.
That India is the fastest-
growing large economy is no
accident. Our simple, scalable
and sustainable solutions have
empowered the vulnerable and
the marginalised to lead our de-
velopment story. From space to
sports, economy to entrepre-
neurship, Indian women have
taken the lead in various sectors.
They have shifted the narrative
from the development of wom-
en to women-led development.
Our G20 Presidency is working
on bridging the gender digital
divide, reducing labour force
participation gaps and enabling
a larger role for women in lead-
ership and decision-making.
For India, the G20 Presiden-
cy is not merely a high-level
diplomatic endeavour. As the
Mother of Democracy and a
model of diversity, we opened
the doors of this experience to
the world.
Today, accomplishing things
atscaleisaqualitythatisassoci-
ated with India. The G20 Presi-
dency is no exception. It has
become a people-driven move-
ment. Over 200 meetings will
have been organised in 60 Indi-
an cities across the length and
breadth of our nation, hosting
nearly 100,000 delegates from
125 countries by the end of our
term. No Presidency has ever
encompassed such a vast and
diverse geographical expanse.
It is one thing to hear about
India’s demography, democra-
cy, diversity and development
from someone else. It is totally
different to experience them
first-hand. I am sure our G20
delegates would vouch for this.
Our G20 Presidency strives to
bridge divides, dismantle barri-
ers, and sow seeds of collabora-
tion that nourish a world where
unity prevails over discord,
where shared destiny eclipses
isolation. As the G20 President,
wehadpledgedtomaketheglob-

the “right country” at the “right time” to hold the G20

pay tribute to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership over

such global leadership. I am hugely proud of my

there is only one ‘Cap-

said that don’t be afraid.
May you unite with cour-

we all should help him.
We have to give this mes-

everyone will be happy

Kharge said, “BJP has
not been given the right

n the occasion of
Krishna Janmashtami,
as we submerge our-
selves in the bhakti of
our Supreme Lord, it
is a time to rejoice that
we live in Bharat
where Lord Krishna gave such teachings
to humankind that they have withstood
centuries and the test of time as Eternal
Wisdom. In fact, I feel that in the world of
today with all its tribulations as we live
surrounded by the chaos of the modern
era, the lessons of Bhagavat Gita can guide
us onto the path of bliss and eternal joy.
Remember, this joyful, blissful child
whom we adore as Kanha, Makhanchor
is also the Dwarkadheesh, Lord of the
Universe and the Protector of Dharma.
Till Lord Krishna was in Vrindavan, he
held the flute, looked after the cows and
wooed the Gopis but as Dwarkadheesh he
held the Sudarshan Chakra and protected
all those who prayed to him, each and
everyone who called to him be it Ruk-
mini, Sudama, Draupadi or Arjuna.
In Srimad Bhagvatam, he shows us the
path to attainment of God through the per-
fect amalgamation of the fourYogas- Kar-
ma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Rāja Yoga and
Jñāna Yoga- for the householder (the gra-
hasth) and the Monk (the Sanyasi).
Today, let us strive and promise to our-
selves, that we shall try and follow the
path shown by the Lord himself of selfless
service and sadhana.

undi: A re-

t h r o w n
fresh light
on a rock
painting in Bundi claiming it
to be of the third century
BCE of the Vrishni heroes,
also referred to as Five He-
roes or “Pancha-Viras.” This
rock shelter at Naldah in
Bundi garners interest be-
cause it is the only depiction
related to Panca – Vrsni, Vi-
ras in India where the five
heroes are shown standing
side by side. Based on his-
torical research they have
been identified as Vāsudeva-
Krishna, Samkarsana Bal-
ram, Praduman, Samb and
Aniruddh.
“The most striking aspect
of the art is the representa-
tion of divinity with the help
of haloes over the heads of
two figures. Dating almost
2300 years ago, this is the
earliest representation of
‘Vṛṣṇis’ in any form of art,”
reads Dr Vinay Gupta a re-
search scholar with the Ar-
cheological Survey of India,
(ASI), published paper.
The fact that there is evi-
dence in the Bhagwata cult
of the Vrishni heroes and the
‘Vayu Puran’ wherein not
just Krishna but his brother
Balram, his son Samb and
Praduman and his grandson
Aniruddh were all wor-
shipped together also cor-
roborates the depiction of the
five heroes.
Located near village Ke-
wariya about an hour away
from Bundi city, the rock
shelter site is part of the
Greater Braj region and lies
on the route linking Mathura
with Tumain, and Ujjain in
Madhya Pradesh. The evi-
dence in the form of a rock
painting dates to the Mau-
ryan period and is nestled
along a small seasonal tribu-
tary, Mangli which merges
with the Mez River of the
Chambal. Undecipherable to
the common eye, this rock
painting was discovered by
an archaeology enthusiast,
Om Prakash alias ‘Kuki,’ a
name synonymous with pre-
historic rock art in the re-
gion.
The two figures in the rock
art on the extreme left and
right are properly shown
with haloes and can be iden-
tified as Vāsudeva-Kṛṣṇa
and Balarāma. Most of the
figures appear with their
hands held akimbo and they
are shown connected by a
long piece of cloth, running
like a rope. The one to the
extreme right either possibly
holds a chakra in his left
hand tied to a rope and can
be identified as Vāsudeva-
Kṛṣṇa whereas the one to the
extreme left either possibly
holds a ‘hala’(plough-share).
Besides. the three male
figures in between these two
deities can be identified as
Pradyumna, Sāmba and An-

The Vrsnis constitute one of the most important groups
in the saga of the Mahabharata, and Vrsni is the clan in
which the most famous of the Mahabharata characters,
Vasudeva-Krsna, was born. In ancient India, the Vrsnis is
were worshipped either as individual deities (heroes) or
in groups (triads, tetrads or pentads).

rishna Jan-
mashtami,
a joyous
celebration
of Lord
Krishna’s birth, graces us
with its presence once
again today. This auspi-
cious day holds a special
place in the hearts of mil-
lions across India and the
world. As we commemo-
rate this divine occasion,
one can’t help but notice
thecharmingsightoflittle
children, dressed as
Krishna and Radha,
adorning various events
and school programs.
Krishna Janmashtami,
often referred to as Jan-
mashtami or Gokulashta-
mi, is a festival that ex-
udes a vibrant aura of
spirituality and devotion.
It marks the birth of Lord
Krishna, the eighth incar-
nation of Lord Vishnu,
who is fondly known as
the “makhan chor” or the
butter thief. The story of
Krishna’s birth is inter-
twined with legends and
tales of his divine esca-
pades, making it a day of
immense significance.
One of the most en-
chanting aspects of this
festivalistheparticipation
of children, who trans-
form into adorable little
Krishnas and Radhas.
These young souls, with
their colorful attire and
playful demeanor, bring
the tales of Krishna to life.
From donning the iconic
peacock feather-adorned
crown to wielding a toy
flute, these children radi-
ate the charm and inno-
cence that Lord Krishna
himself embodied.
Schools play a vital
role in fostering this tra-
dition, organising spe-
cial programs and events
to commemorate Krish-
na Janmashtami. These
gatherings not only edu-
cate the younger genera-
tion about the rich cul-
tural heritage of India
but also instill values of
compassion, love, and
devotion that Lord
Krishna personifies.
Through skits, dances,
and recitations, students
pay homage to this di-
vine figure, immersing
themselves in the spirit
of the festival.
Yet, the celebration ex-
tendsbeyondtheconfines
of educational institu-
tions. Families, too, play
anintegralpartinkeeping
the tradition alive. Par-
entsenthusiasticallydress
their little ones as Krishna
and Radha, with intricate
attention to detail. Tiny
turbans, vibrant attire,
and even the little pot of
butter carried by these
pint-sized deities create
an atmosphere of joy and
reverence within homes.
It is heartwarming to
witness these young
Krishna and Radha ava-
tars, whose innocence
reminds us of the purity
of devotion. The essence
of Krishna Janmashtami
lies not just in rituals but
in the love and reverence
it inspires in people’s
hearts, young and old
alike.
As we cele-
brate this beau-
tiful day, let us
reflect on the
teachings of
LordKrishna,
his message
of righteous-
ness,duty,and
devotion. City
First embraces
the spirit of uni-
ty and love that this
festival symbolizes,
transcendingbound-
aries and bringing
people together in a
tapestry of cultures
and beliefs, with
some glimpses
shared with us
by our dear
readers!

  • 2. ‘VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM’ – these two words capture a deep philosophy. It means ‘the world is one family’. This is an all-embracing outlook that en- courages us to progress as one universal family, transcending borders, languages, and ideolo- gies. During India’s G20 Presi- dency, this has translated into a call for human-centric progress. As One Earth, we are coming together to nurture our planet. AsOneFamily, wesupporteach other in the pursuit of growth. And we move together towards a shared future - One Future - which is an undeniable truth in these interconnected times. The post-pandemic world or- der is very different from the world before it. There are three importantchanges, amongothers. First, there is a growing reali- sation that a shift away from a GDP-centricviewoftheworldto a human-centric view is needed. Second, the world is recog- nizing the importance of resil- ience and reliability in global supply chains. Third, there is a collective call for boosting multilateral- ism through the reform of glob- al institutions. Our G20 Presidency has played the role of a catalyst in these shifts. In December 2022, when we took over the Presidency from Indonesia, I had written that a mindset shift must be catalysed by the G20. This was especially needed in the context of main- streamingthemarginalizedaspi- rations of developing countries, the Global South andAfrica. The Voice of Global South Summit, which witnessed par- ticipation from 125 countries, was one of the foremost initia- tives under our Presidency. It was an important exercise to gather inputs and ideas from the Global South. Further, our Pres- idency has not only seen the largest-ever participation from African countries but hasalsopushedfortheinclusion of the African Union as a per- manent member of the G20. An interconnected world means our challenges across do- mains are interlinked. This is the midwayyearofthe2030Agenda and many are noting with great concern that the progress on SDGsisoff-track.TheG202023 ActionPlanonAcceleratingPro- gress on SDGs will spearhead the future direction of the G20 towards implementing SDGs. In India, living in harmony with nature has been a norm since ancient times and we have been contributing our share towards climate action even in modern times. Many countries of the Glob- al South are at various stages of development and climate ac- tion must be a complementary pursuit. Ambitions for climate action must be matched with actions on climate finance and transfer of technology. We believe there is a need to move away from a purely re- strictive attitude of what should not be done, to a more con- structive attitude focusing on what can be done to fight cli- mate change. The Chennai HLPs for a Sustainable and Resilient Blue Economy focus on keeping our oceans healthy. Aglobal ecosystem for clean and green hydrogen will emerge from our presidency, along with a Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre. In 2015, we launched the In- ternational Solar Alliance. Now, through the Global Bio- fuels Alliance, we will support the world to enable energy transitions in tune with the ben- efits of a circular economy. Democratising climate action is the best way to impart mo- mentum to the movement. Just as individuals make daily deci- sions based on their long-term health, they can make lifestyle decisions based on the impact on the planet’s long-term health. Just like Yoga became a global mass movement for wellness, we have also nudged the world with Lifestyles for Sustainable Environment (LiFE). Due to the impact of climate change, ensuring food and nu- tritional security will be cru- cial. Millets, or Shree Anna, can help with this while also boosting climate-smart agricul- ture. In the International Year of Millets, we have taken mil- lets to global palates. The Dec- can High Level Principles on Food Security and Nutrition is also helpful in this direction. Technology is transforma- tive but it also needs to be made inclusive. In the past, the ben- efits of technological advance- ments have not benefited all sections of society equally. In- dia, over the last few years, has shown how technology can be leveraged to narrow inequali- ties, rather than widen them. For instance, the billions across the world that remain un- banked, orlackdigitalidentities, can be financially included throughdigitalpublicinfrastruc- ture (DPI). The solutions we have built using our DPI have now been recognised globally. Now, through the G20, we will helpdevelopingcountriesadapt, build, and scale DPI to unlock the power of inclusive growth. That India is the fastest- growing large economy is no accident. Our simple, scalable and sustainable solutions have empowered the vulnerable and the marginalised to lead our de- velopment story. From space to sports, economy to entrepre- neurship, Indian women have taken the lead in various sectors. They have shifted the narrative from the development of wom- en to women-led development. Our G20 Presidency is working on bridging the gender digital divide, reducing labour force participation gaps and enabling a larger role for women in lead- ership and decision-making. For India, the G20 Presiden- cy is not merely a high-level diplomatic endeavour. As the Mother of Democracy and a model of diversity, we opened the doors of this experience to the world. Today, accomplishing things atscaleisaqualitythatisassoci- ated with India. The G20 Presi- dency is no exception. It has become a people-driven move- ment. Over 200 meetings will have been organised in 60 Indi- an cities across the length and breadth of our nation, hosting nearly 100,000 delegates from 125 countries by the end of our term. No Presidency has ever encompassed such a vast and diverse geographical expanse. It is one thing to hear about India’s demography, democra- cy, diversity and development from someone else. It is totally different to experience them first-hand. I am sure our G20 delegates would vouch for this. Our G20 Presidency strives to bridge divides, dismantle barri- ers, and sow seeds of collabora- tion that nourish a world where unity prevails over discord, where shared destiny eclipses isolation. As the G20 President, wehadpledgedtomaketheglob- al table larger, ensuring that eve- ryvoiceisheardandeverycoun- try contributes. I am positive that wehavematchedourpledgewith actions and outcomes. City First greets all its readers on the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami and pray that each one us receives blessings from the Lord and eternal bliss and peace pervades within us and the world Anita Hada anita.hada@ firstindianews.com n the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, as we submerge our- selves in the bhakti of our Supreme Lord, it is a time to rejoice that we live in Bharat where Lord Krishna gave such teachings to humankind that they have withstood centuries and the test of time as Eternal Wisdom. In fact, I feel that in the world of today with all its tribulations as we live surrounded by the chaos of the modern era, the lessons of Bhagavat Gita can guide us onto the path of bliss and eternal joy. Remember, this joyful, blissful child whom we adore as Kanha, Makhanchor is also the Dwarkadheesh, Lord of the Universe and the Protector of Dharma. Till Lord Krishna was in Vrindavan, he held the flute, looked after the cows and wooed the Gopis but as Dwarkadheesh he held the Sudarshan Chakra and protected all those who prayed to him, each and everyone who called to him be it Ruk- mini, Sudama, Draupadi or Arjuna. In Srimad Bhagvatam, he shows us the path to attainment of God through the per- fect amalgamation of the fourYogas- Kar- ma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Rāja Yoga and Jñāna Yoga- for the householder (the gra- hasth) and the Monk (the Sanyasi). Today, let us strive and promise to our- selves, that we shall try and follow the path shown by the Lord himself of selfless service and sadhana. O

Your Page JAIPUR, THURSDAY | SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 10 firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia undi: A re- cent revela- tion, has t h r o w n fresh light on a rock painting in Bundi claiming it to be of the third century BCE of the Vrishni heroes, also referred to as Five He- roes or “Pancha-Viras.” This rock shelter at Naldah in Bundi garners interest be- cause it is the only depiction related to Panca – Vrsni, Vi- ras in India where the five heroes are shown standing side by side. Based on his- torical research they have been identified as Vāsudeva- Krishna, Samkarsana Bal- ram, Praduman, Samb and Aniruddh. “The most striking aspect of the art is the representa- tion of divinity with the help of haloes over the heads of two figures. Dating almost 2300 years ago, this is the earliest representation of ‘Vṛṣṇis’ in any form of art,” reads Dr Vinay Gupta a re- search scholar with the Ar- cheological Survey of India, (ASI), published paper. The fact that there is evi- dence in the Bhagwata cult of the Vrishni heroes and the ‘Vayu Puran’ wherein not just Krishna but his brother Balram, his son Samb and Praduman and his grandson Aniruddh were all wor- shipped together also cor- roborates the depiction of the five heroes. Located near village Ke- wariya about an hour away from Bundi city, the rock shelter site is part of the Greater Braj region and lies on the route linking Mathura with Tumain, and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. The evi- dence in the form of a rock painting dates to the Mau- ryan period and is nestled along a small seasonal tribu- tary, Mangli which merges with the Mez River of the Chambal. Undecipherable to the common eye, this rock painting was discovered by an archaeology enthusiast, Om Prakash alias ‘Kuki,’ a name synonymous with pre- historic rock art in the re- gion. The two figures in the rock art on the extreme left and right are properly shown with haloes and can be iden- tified as Vāsudeva-Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma. Most of the figures appear with their hands held akimbo and they are shown connected by a long piece of cloth, running like a rope. The one to the extreme right either possibly holds a chakra in his left hand tied to a rope and can be identified as Vāsudeva- Kṛṣṇa whereas the one to the extreme left either possibly holds a ‘hala’(plough-share). Besides. the three male figures in between these two deities can be identified as Pradyumna, Sāmba and An- iruddha with no differentiat- ing or identifying marks ex- cept for the fact that some stylization is done over their heads, possibly indicating their divine nature,” reads Dr Gupta research. Rachna Singh cityfirst@firstindia.co.in The Vrsnis constitute one of the most important groups in the saga of the Mahabharata, and Vrsni is the clan in which the most famous of the Mahabharata characters, Vasudeva-Krsna, was born. In ancient India, the Vrsnis is were worshipped either as individual deities (heroes) or in groups (triads, tetrads or pentads). B Bundi rock RockArtInBundi
  • 12. Event JAIPUR, THURSDAY | SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 11 firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia rishna Jan- mashtami, a joyous celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth, graces us with its presence once again today. This auspi- cious day holds a special place in the hearts of mil- lions across India and the world. As we commemo- rate this divine occasion, one can’t help but notice thecharmingsightoflittle children, dressed as Krishna and Radha, adorning various events and school programs. Krishna Janmashtami, often referred to as Jan- mashtami or Gokulashta- mi, is a festival that ex- udes a vibrant aura of spirituality and devotion. It marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incar- nation of Lord Vishnu, who is fondly known as the “makhan chor” or the butter thief. The story of Krishna’s birth is inter- twined with legends and tales of his divine esca- pades, making it a day of immense significance. One of the most en- chanting aspects of this festivalistheparticipation of children, who trans- form into adorable little Krishnas and Radhas. These young souls, with their colorful attire and playful demeanor, bring the tales of Krishna to life. From donning the iconic peacock feather-adorned crown to wielding a toy flute, these children radi- ate the charm and inno- cence that Lord Krishna himself embodied. Schools play a vital role in fostering this tra- dition, organising spe- cial programs and events to commemorate Krish- na Janmashtami. These gatherings not only edu- cate the younger genera- tion about the rich cul- tural heritage of India but also instill values of compassion, love, and devotion that Lord Krishna personifies. Through skits, dances, and recitations, students pay homage to this di- vine figure, immersing themselves in the spirit of the festival. Yet, the celebration ex- tendsbeyondtheconfines of educational institu- tions. Families, too, play anintegralpartinkeeping the tradition alive. Par- entsenthusiasticallydress their little ones as Krishna and Radha, with intricate attention to detail. Tiny turbans, vibrant attire, and even the little pot of butter carried by these pint-sized deities create an atmosphere of joy and reverence within homes. It is heartwarming to witness these young Krishna and Radha ava- tars, whose innocence reminds us of the purity of devotion. The essence of Krishna Janmashtami lies not just in rituals but in the love and reverence it inspires in people’s hearts, young and old alike. As we cele- brate this beau- tiful day, let us reflect on the teachings of LordKrishna, his message of righteous- ness, duty, and devotion.
