This document describes a study that investigated the effects of acetate supplementation and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) on stress levels and blood glucose in immobilized rats. Rats were subjected to immobilization stress for 28 days. Some rats were treated with fluoxetine (an SSRI), glyceryl triacetate (GTA/acetate supplement), or a combination. Stress levels were assessed using open field and hole board tests. Blood glucose and adrenal gland weight were also measured. Results showed acetate and SSRI treatment reduced stress levels and blood glucose compared to untreated stressed rats.
