9. Eric Cray Report via PATAFA
Was "in great shape and on track to meeting
qualifying standards for Tokyo 2020". Samantha
added that compared to previous seasons, Eric
was much stronger and consistent as "we put
more focus on his race pattern and speed
endurance."
Samantha noted the 50.21 secs time of Eric in
the December 2019 SEA Games while still
adjusting to his new race pattern and correcting
many technical lapses. Samantha believes that
winning time in the SEA Games easily translates,
after mastering all the adjustments to 49.8 secs
or a faster race "which is perfect for December
and put him on track for 48.5 secs or faster as
an early (US) outdoor opener (in March)". The
Olympic qualifying standard is 48.90.

10. Eric Cray Report
• During his first race in the 2020 outdoor season on February 13, 2020,
Eric ran a personal best of 47.8 in Albuquerque, New Mexico,
smashing his previous indoor personal best of 48.28 secs established
in 2015. This inducaed he was in extremely good shape heading into
the 2020 outdoor season. Samantha stated that, during practice, in
April or at the height of the pandemic, Eric timed 46.5 seconds.

11. Eric Cray Report
• As the Covid 19 numbers increased and facilities shut down, Eric trained at local
parks and in El Paso streets. However, once the Olympics were postponed to
2021, it was decided to keep Eric off the streets to reduce injury risk.
• While in good physical shape, the number of training venues became even more
limited and harder to access as Covid 19 numbers in Texas, one of the Covid
hotspots in the US continued to rise. In addition, understandable Covid 19 -
related delays in funding continued and the dangers of travel during the
pandemic prevented the attainment of ideal training and competition conditions.
Such delays have however been resolved through the close working relationship
between PSC and PATAFA.
• Training for 2021 continues and the plan is to join the 2020 Athletics National
Championship in the second week of December. If the 2020 championship pushes
through, it will be an Olympic qualifier which could trigger the participation of
some of the region's and the world's top athletes.
