Table tennis originated in England in the 1880s and has been a Summer Olympic sport since 1988. It is governed by the International Table Tennis Federation and can be played as either a singles or doubles game. Players use different grips and spin on the ball to score points against their opponent over a table divided by a net. China has historically dominated the sport, winning numerous Olympic gold medals and world championships over the years.
