Mobility has broken the monopoly of large telephone companies by allowing multiple wireless carriers to compete. This opened the telecommunications network to innovation and blurred the boundaries between the network and connected devices. The dominance of companies with a "Big Bell dogma" that aimed to protect the status quo and centralized control is fading as mobility has fractured the market.
