The document summarizes key passages from Hebrews 13:1-16 about how worship has been simplified under the new covenant in Jesus but remains meaningful. It discusses how the focus is now on relationships with God and others through acts like showing hospitality, caring for prisoners, honoring marriage, and sharing with others. Rituals like sacrifices have been replaced with continual praise and doing good works. The overall message is that true worship is about having an intimate relationship with God and loving others, not just external rituals or rules.
April 30, 2017 - Sunday service - Overcoming envy ... by: Ptr. Jerome TupeCatherine Lirio
This document discusses overcoming envy by living in the Spirit. It provides scriptural passages about crucifying the flesh and its passions, walking in the Spirit, and not becoming conceited or envying others. It then discusses understanding the negative effects of envy, such as hurting relationships and judging others. Finally, it offers three ways to overcome envy: by being content and grateful for blessings; focusing on heavenly rather than earthly things; and finding satisfaction in God's presence. The conclusion emphasizes that envy and joy or peace cannot coexist, and that while no one is immune from envy, God wants us to be free from the bitterness and emptiness that accompany envy.
This document summarizes and comments on a passage from Romans 13:11-14. It begins by noting that Paul is calling believers to live differently than unbelievers in light of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. Unbelievers are described as sleeping and walking in darkness, while believers should be awake and walking in the light. Paul urges believers to put aside sinful deeds and armor themselves with righteous living. The motivation is that salvation is near now that Jesus may return at any time.
Jesus has a conversation with a Samaritan woman at a well in Sychar. He tells her that if she knew who he was, she would ask him for living water that would become a spring inside her and give eternal life. She doesn't understand, so Jesus reveals that he knows details about her personal life, showing he is a prophet. The woman realizes Jesus may be the Messiah and goes to tell others in the town about him.
Cornelius was a Roman centurion who feared God and prayed regularly. He had a vision where an angel told him to send for Simon Peter. Peter came and shared the gospel, telling Cornelius that anyone who seeks God will find him, including those from other religions or backgrounds. God made sure Cornelius found the truth of Christianity, demonstrating that whoever is willing can be saved.
The document discusses the importance of abiding in Christ through obedience, meditation on his words, and reliance on him. It warns that failing to abide in Christ will lead to being "cast out" like a withered branch. Abiding in Christ results in fruitfulness, joy, answered prayers, experiencing his love, bringing glory to God, and demonstrating true discipleship. The key is to remain closely connected to Christ rather than being distracted or drawing from "false vines."

This document contains an analysis of Philippians 2:17-18. It examines how Paul's willingness to be "poured out like a drink offering" relates to the sacrifices and service of faith from the Philippians. The document explores biblical concepts of Old Testament sacrifices and priests being replaced by Christians as "living stones" in God's spiritual temple. It encourages readers to imitate Paul and Christ by being willing to sacrifice and suffer for their faith.
Jesus is the True Vine and we are the branches. The Father, as Vinedresser, has a purpose and expectations for each of us: we must bear fruit, abide in him and love one another.
Abiding in Jesus is vital to maintaining full joy in Him. In this passage John reminds us that we can be confident that we abide in Him because of two things God has done for us: 1) given us of His Spirit and 2) sent His Son as Savior; and two things we must do: 1) Confess Jesus is the Son of God and 2) abide in love.
This document discusses the importance of holy living according to God's commands. It covers several Bible passages that instruct believers to be holy as God is holy and to observe the Sabbath day of rest. The Ten Commandments are listed as the fundamental moral code for believers. Living wisely rather than foolishly and understanding God's will are emphasized. The Sabbath is presented as directly related to practical holiness through acknowledging God's presence through rest and quiet reflection.

This document discusses Jesus' statement in John 15:1-11 about being the "true vine." It explains that Jesus used the metaphor of a grapevine, which would have been familiar to Jews, to teach four main points: (1) Jesus is the source of life and sustenance for believers, (2) believers are called to abide in Christ to bear fruit, (3) God the Father prunes believers to encourage greater fruitfulness, and (4) fruitfulness is evidence of abiding in Christ. The key is for believers to remain in close fellowship with Christ through obedience, prayer, and Bible reading in order to bear the spiritual fruits of winning souls, holiness, and good works.
Peter had fished all night but caught nothing. Jesus told him to try fishing again during the day. Though discouraged, Peter agreed to try again at Jesus' word. When they did, they caught a huge number of fish and their nets began to break.

The document is a passage from the book of Malachi in the Bible. It discusses how the people of Israel had violated their covenant with God by being unfaithful to one another in their marriages and relationships. In particular, they had profaned the sanctuary of God by marrying foreign wives and adopting the practices of other nations, including divorce. The passage warns the people to remain faithful to their spouses and marriages, as God intended marriage to be a lifelong covenantal bond between a man, woman and God. It also criticizes the priests and leaders who had grown lax in their interpretation of the law to allow for divorce.

The document analyzes the biblical story in Judges 17 to identify 10 key events that show how a man named Micah established his own religious system against God's commands. These include Micah stealing money and setting up a house of gods with idols and appointing his son as a priest. A Levite traveling through is convinced to act as Micah's personal priest in exchange for payment. The summary concludes that man cannot recreate God or his righteousness through their own desires and works.
A prophet from Judah prophesied against Jeroboam's altar and was invited by the king to eat with him, but refused due to God's command. An old prophet from Bethel lied and said God told him to bring the prophet back, who then ate with him and was killed by a lion on his way home as judgment for disobeying God's command. The story teaches that we must obey God rather than men and will all give an account to God for our actions.

The document stresses starting prayer by focusing on God rather than our own concerns, and finding the best kind of happiness through salvation in Jesus Christ rather than always wanting our own way.
The warfare of the believer-Ephesians 4CstoneHampton
This document discusses the warfare of the believer according to Ephesians 4. It explains that believers are called to transform their human nature into God's divine nature through the Holy Spirit. Believers are called to walk worthily of their high calling in humility. They must endeavor to keep unity in the church and use their spiritual gifts to mature other believers. Believers are instructed to put off their old sinful nature and put on the new self through renewing their mind. They are to speak only what is helpful for building others up. Overall, the document provides guidance for believers on how to live according to their spiritual identity and calling through spiritual warfare and maturity.

The document discusses the nature of love according to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. It describes love as not being envious, boastful, proud, rude, self-seeking, easily angered or keeping a record of wrongs. Instead, love rejoices in the truth. The overall message seems to be defining love based on biblical scripture and encouraging exhibiting loving behaviors.
This document discusses the importance of father-son relationships in ministry according to biblical examples. It argues that moving away from this order is a departure from God. Key points:
- God's order is based on father-son relationships, as seen from Abraham to Moses. Breaking this order leads to disorder.
- Many modern churches lack true spiritual fathers, so they associate with larger ministries instead of having their own identity.
- Spiritual inheritance and blessings are only received through connection with the spiritual father, as the son of God.
- Examples like Elijah and Elisha demonstrate how the anointing flows from father to son. A father imparts value and desires the son to exceed

This document discusses love as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. It states that love is patient, kind, does not envy or boast, is not proud or rude. Love is not self-seeking, easily angered, or keeps track of wrongs. Instead, love rejoices in truth, protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. True love comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit.

This document provides encouragement for when times are dark or disappointing by highlighting examples from Jesus' life and teachings. It stresses that believers should let their light shine through persecution [Matthew 5:11-12], follow Jesus' example of remaining faithful even when angry or sad [Luke 19:45-48, 19:41], and overcome the world through faith in God's word [1 John 5:4-5; Matthew 6:19-21; Colossians 3:16]. It exhorts readers to stand firm through temptation by using God's armor and sword [Ephesians 6:10-18], remain faithful stewards of their heart, body, spirit, things, and service [1 Thessalonians 5

This document discusses how Christians should view their work and careers. It begins by noting that most people spend a significant portion of their lives working to pay bills and support their families. However, the author argues that a radical change is needed in how Christians approach work. The document then discusses the Parable of the Talents from the Bible, noting that Christians should use their careers and jobs to further God's kingdom, not just focus on financial gain. It encourages Christians to pray for coworkers and clients, start prayer groups at work, help others financially, and openly share their faith. The overall message is that Christians' "marketplace" is also their mission from God and they should seek to change the world through their work.
Paul challenges believers to live in a way that honors their status as members of the body of Christ. As God's representatives on Earth, Christians should demonstrate unity, humility, and moral/ethical behavior. Specifically, believers are instructed to reject sinful nature, speak truthfully, manage anger properly, use constructive language, and forgive others as God forgives. The goal is for Christians to please the Holy Spirit with their conduct and bring people to Christ through their example.
The document outlines a mission to love God and others through discipleship, evangelism, equipping others, and promoting family. Following Jesus' command, the mission aims to make disciples of all nations by baptizing them and teaching them to obey God's commands until they are mature in Christ. The mission will also serve the poor through compassion to extend God's grace. Led by the Holy Spirit, the ultimate goals are to advance God's kingdom and pass the faith to future generations.
authoring a hero's journey: finding meaning through storyJoyce Hostyn
We live, learn, and remember through story. Our brains weave each experience into the overall narrative that shapes who we are. Yet seldom do we step back to examine or consciously shape the overall story of our lives. As designers, many of us have a desire to change the world. And yet, as Leo Tolstoy said, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” If design is change, if we want to use design to effect change, shouldn’t we first think about changing ourselves by designing our own story? For the stories we tell ourselves can change the way we see the world and, by extension, change the world itself.
The document discusses rediscovering one's inner child. It asks the reader to reflect on when they last engaged in childlike activities like reading for pleasure, being in nature, playing, and allowing others to care for them. It describes the inner child as holding the key to well-being, creativity, and wisdom. Rediscovering and embracing the inner child is important for being fully human and healing by making oneself whole again.
The document discusses how baptism truly changes everything. It summarizes that through baptism we are changed into Jesus' image as we are transformed to be conformed to his likeness. Baptism changes our relationships, attitudes, and directions in life as we become new creations in Christ, putting on Christ and putting off our old sinful nature.
The document is a welcome message for the Jackson Street Church of Christ. It includes a Bible passage, an introduction titled "The Best News Ever", and a presentation on "The Gospel". The presentation defines the gospel as the good news of what Jesus has done, including that He died for sins and rose again. It states that the gospel is for anyone, as it provides an ultimate makeover by making one a new creation in Christ, takes care of the past by forgiving sins, and introduces a new future guided by God's word. The document encourages obeying the gospel to become a new creation in Christ.
This passage from Luke describes Mary Magdalene and other women discovering Jesus' empty tomb on the first day of the week. They find the stone rolled away from the entrance and Jesus' body missing. Two angels appear and tell the women that Jesus is not dead but has risen, as he had foretold. The women remember Jesus' words and go to share the news with the disciples.
The document discusses the concept of "the unknown" from a biblical perspective over five sections:
1. The Unknown Development - discusses how a person is spiritually "dead" before salvation but called to consider themselves "dead" after salvation.
2. The Unknown Director - emphasizes that one must choose to serve God rather than sin.
3. The Unknown Deceiver - warns about being deceived by sin and corrupted by evil influences.
4. The Unknown Disappointment - notes that not all who strive will receive rewards and success is not guaranteed in spiritual life.
5. The Unknown Declaration - stresses the importance of self-examination to avoid being "reprobate" and facing rejection from

The Significance of Being A Christian - Saved To ServeRick Peterson
Saved To Serve is the sixth in a series of lessons on, "The Significance of Being A Christian." I found the outlines for this series of lessons at: http://executableoutlines.com/sig.htm
John 1:14 Christ became flesh for us, He became poor for us, he became obedient to the point of death for us, He became sin for us, He became the author of eternal salvation for us, He became the firstfruits of those who had died for us, He became the chief cornerstone for us, He became wisdom from God for us. He became all of these things for us so that we might become a new creation for Him.
The document discusses what it means to truly know God. It argues that merely claiming to know God is not enough; one must demonstrate knowledge of God through obedience to his commands. True knowledge of God does not come through human wisdom but through faith in Jesus Christ. To know God is to love God and others, as God first loved us. The ultimate purpose of knowing God is to gain eternal life through a relationship with both God the Father and Jesus Christ his son. The document encourages the reader to evaluate whether they truly know God and Jesus or if it is merely an intellectual belief.
Paul was testifying before King Agrippa about his former life persecuting Christians and his conversion experience on the road to Damascus. He saw a bright light and heard Jesus say "Why do you persecute me?" realizing that in persecuting Christians he was persecuting Jesus. Paul was once a persecutor of Christians but was now a believer in Jesus as the Messiah.
1 John 2:3-10 Tests reveal where we are compared to where we should be in specific areas. Do you really know God? Do you obey God? Do you walk like Jesus walked? Do you love your brethren?
The document discusses Jewish wedding traditions and draws parallels between them and God's relationship with His people. It notes that in a Jewish wedding, the bride circles the wedding canopy (chuppah) seven times, representing the seven promises God made to the Israelites. Under the chuppah, the bride and groom exchange vows alone before God, as God offers a new covenant of forgiveness and a changed nature through His Holy Spirit. The traditions of blessing wine, reading the ketubah legal document, and the seclusion of the bride and groom after the ceremony mirror spiritual realities of communion, God's commands, and intimacy with God.
This document contains the text of a sermon given at the Jackson Street Church of Christ. The sermon discusses making good decisions by looking at examples from the life of Moses as described in Hebrews 11. It outlines four fundamental decisions that Moses made that led to a good life: 1) Choosing God's plan over his own. 2) Choosing authenticity over prestige. 3) Choosing self-denial over pleasure. 4) Choosing heavenly rewards over earthly riches. The sermon encourages the congregation to make similarly wise decisions in their own lives by following God's will rather than their own desires.
The Powerpoint outlines for this series of lessons on The Great Commission were downloaded from the Duluth, GA Church of Christ website at: http://www.churchofchristduluthga.org/sermons.php
This document is a sermon outline from the Jackson Street Church of Christ discussing the importance of maintaining a clear conscience. It begins by welcoming attendees and asking them to turn off cell phones. The main points made are:
1) All people have sinned and can feel guilt, but through confession and faith in God our consciences can be cleared.
2) We should desire a clear conscience and can know it is clear if we pray honorably and remember others in prayer. Suffering may be required to maintain a pure conscience.
3) Our consciences are not always a safe guide, as they can become hardened or defiled. We should never violate our own conscience or cause others to st
1) The document provides an overview and analysis of chapter 3 verses 1-21 of Paul's letter to the Philippians.
2) Paul's priority in the letter was to safeguard the joy of the church by warning them about those who threaten their joy in Christ, and by explaining that true joy comes from knowing Christ rather than earthly accomplishments or status.
3) Paul contrasts those who are enemies of Christ, with earthly minds and destruction as their destiny, from believers whose citizenship and hope is in heaven and who will receive glorious resurrected bodies.
Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons are not considered true Christians based on their beliefs about Jesus and God. Jehovah's Witnesses believe Jesus was created and not God himself, contradicting the Bible which says Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. Mormons believe humans can become gods like Jesus, but the Bible says there is only one God and nothing created can become God. Key verses used by JWs to argue Jesus is not God are taken out of context and contradicted by other verses, showing Jesus as the creator and sustainer of all things, proving his divinity.
This document contains the sermon notes from the Jackson Street Church of Christ. The sermon focuses on having an abundant life according to scripture. It discusses having a clear conscience through confession of sins. It also emphasizes commitment to serving God and his cause, having confidence through difficult times, maintaining cheerfulness, finding companionship in God and others, embracing challenges to grow closer to God, and developing strong character. The sermon encourages examining these seven aspects to determine if one is truly living an abundant life.
The document outlines 10 ways that Christians are described in the Bible:
1. Sons of God - Those who believe in Jesus have the right to become children of God.
2. Saints of God - Christians are called and sanctified to be saints of God.
3. Servants of God - Christians are servants and stewards of God's mysteries.
4. Sharers of God - Christians are called to make disciples and share their faith.
5. Soldiers of God - Christians must endure hardship as good soldiers of Christ.
6. Stewards of God - Each Christian has received gifts from God to minister to others.
7. Salt of God - Christians are called to
Genesis 47:13-15 Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. 14 And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house. 15 So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed." There are a number of reasons that money fails.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

2. Deuteronomy 15:15-17 You shall
remember that you were a slave in the
land of Egypt, and the LORD your God
redeemed you; therefore I command you
this thing today. 16 And if it happens that
he says to you, 'I will not go away from
you,' because he loves you and your
house, since he prospers with you,
17 then you shall take an awl and thrust it
through his ear to the door, and he shall
be your servant forever. Also to your
female servant you shall do likewise.
3. I WANT TO BE A SLAVE
A. Exodus 21:2-6 If you buy a Hebrew servant, he
shall serve six years; and in the seventh he shall go
out free and pay nothing. 3 If he comes in by
himself, he shall go out by himself; if he comes in
married, then his wife shall go out with him. 4 If his
master has given him a wife, and she has borne him
sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall
be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
5 But if the servant plainly says, 'I love my master,
my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,'
6 then his master shall bring him to the judges. He
shall also bring him to the door, or to the doorpost,
and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and
he shall serve him forever.
B. Deut 15 & Exodus 21 describe the responsibilities of
slaves and masters pertaining to the year of jubilee.

are consequences to his choices.
E. Jesus made the decision to become a slave -
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which
was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the
form of God, did not consider it robbery to be
equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no
reputation, taking the form of a bondservant,
and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being
found in appearance as a man, He humbled
Himself and became obedient to the point of
death, even the death of the cross.
5. I. THE SUBMISSION OF A SLAVE
F. The decision to become a slave of Christ.
1. There are many people today who claim
to belong to Jesus.
2. Yet their lives are direct contradictions of
what He has commanded in His Word.
3. The slave of Christ is one who lives with
an eternal perspective rather than an
earthly one.
G.The slave lives for the master - Luke 9:23
Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires
to come after Me, let him deny himself, and
take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

anyone comes to Me and does not hate his
father and mother, wife and children, brothers
and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot
be My disciple.
I. The will of the master comes first - Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,'
shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who
does the will of My Father in heaven.
J. Jesus makes it clear that becoming a slave to
Him requires submission. Have you done that?
K. 1 Corinthians 6:19b-20 … you are not your
own? 20 For you were bought at a price;
therefore glorify God in your body and in your
spirit, which are God's.

A. Deut 15:16b “Because he loves you and your
house.”

Christ or slaves of Satan - Romans 6:16 Do you
not know that to whom you present yourselves
slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom
you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of
obedience leading to righteousness?
8. II. THE AFFECTION OF A SLAVE
D. We are slaves either way. The difference is in the
master.
E. Serving Christ is far better - Romans 6:20-
23 For when you were slaves of sin, you were
free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did
you have then in the things of which you are
now ashamed? For the end of those things is
death. 22 But now having been set free from sin,
and having become slaves of God, you have
your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting
life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift
of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
9. II. THE AFFECTION OF A SLAVE
F. Being a slave of Christ is not a difficult
task when you consider all that He has
done for us.
1. He has delivered us from bondage,
2. secured our salvation and given us a
new life.
3. He has provided us with eternal life and
promised us a home in Heaven.

6. We have a close intimate relationship
with Him.

through his ear to the door.”

the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear
with an awl.”
C. This ceremony signified the slaves' submission to
his master.
D. Our public confession and baptism is what signifies
our becoming slaves of Christ. - Romans 6:3-4 Or
do you not know that as many of us as were
baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His
death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through
baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we
also should walk in newness of life.
11. III. THE IDENTIFICATION OF A SLAVE
E. Our life then becomes a public testimony
of our being His slave - Romans 12:1-2 I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable
to God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that you may prove what is that
good and acceptable and perfect will of
God.
12. III. THE IDENTIFICATION OF A SLAVE
F. When someone examines your life, when they
see how you live... they should immediately
know "that man or that woman belongs to Jesus
Christ.

men, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in heaven.
2. Philippians 2:14-15 Do all things without

shine as lights in the world,

Christ till death.
1. Revelation 2:10 Do not fear any of those things
which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is
about to throw some of you into prison, that you
may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten
days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you
the crown of life.
2. Revelation 12:10-11 Then I heard a loud voice
saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength,
and the kingdom of our God, and the power of
His Christ have come, for the accuser of our
brethren, who accused them before our God day
and night, has been cast down. 11 And they
overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by
the word of their testimony, and they did not love
their lives to the death.

convenient for them.

spoiled brat!

1. Too many people want the benefits of a
relationship with Jesus without serving Him.
2. It doesn't work that way.
3. John 14:15 "If you love me, keep my
commandments.“
17. DO YOU WANT TO BE A SLAVE?
D.If we are His slaves, we should have the
mindset of the Hebrew slave.
1. We are to submit to our Master.
2. We are to love our Master.
3. We are to be devoted to our Master.
4. We are to be identified as slaves of our
Master
5. We are obligated to serve our Master.
E. Does that describe you? If not.... let today
be the day that you surrender to Him!!
