2. INTRODUCTION
• Is the infections that caused by trichomonus
vaginalis.
• It is sexual transmitted disease.
• About 5% of pregnant women carry the
infection.
3. Clinical features
• Vaginal discharge
– Profuse , extreme frothy, yellowish or greenish and
at time foul smelling.
• Itching and irritation extending to the thigh.
• Urinary symptoms may occur.
5. Treatment
• Metronidazole is first line
– Dose PO single dose of 2g or 500mg two times
for 7days.
• Tinidazole (single dose 3g) for resistant
trichomonas vaginalis.
7. Preventions
• Limiting the number of sexual partners decreases the risk of
trichomoniasis.
• Sexual partners of patients infected with trichomoniasis
must be treated to prevent re-infection.
• Abstinence from sexual intercourse until both the patient
and partner has completed therapy and are asymptomatic.
• Consider empirical treatment of other sexually transmitted
infections that frequently co-exist with trichomoniasis such
as gonorrhoea, Candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis.
• Male condoms can protect against the transmission of
trichomoniasis. Although the efficacy of female condoms is
undefined, they may also provide some protection.
• Diaphragms have been shown to protect against
trichomoniasis but should not be used as the primary source
of protection against HIV
