Paul wrote to the Galatians to address those teaching a false gospel of works-based salvation. Some rejected Paul's authority, as he was not one of the original 12 apostles. In his letter, Paul establishes (1) his authority came from a revelation of Jesus Christ, not men; (2) he preached the true gospel of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus; and (3) he warned the Galatians against deserting the true gospel for a false one requiring works.
