this includes good choices. Choices can be costly, but not in the way you would think.
Good choices that are costly create good character. I have learned this through a specific
life experience.
In sixth grade I began to bloom into the social flower I am today. There was a girl
who never socialized with others in our class. I began to watch her and realized that
absolutely no one talked to her. I felt extremely sympathetic for her and put my self in her
shoes. I would have wanted someone to reach out to me if I was lonely.
Gradually I began to talk to her. We found we had a plethora of things in
common. She was easygoing, intelligent and responsible. She slowly became my
confidante. I told her everything from home-life to crushes. My best friends began to say
I was neglecting them, but I still felt she was “lonely” and I was her only friend.
It was an unfortunate day when our friendship crumbled. The girl I had trusted
had betrayed me. All my secrets, all our quiet conversations were exposed. She told the
popular girls all my secrets so that they would befriend her. She had become a charlatan
in my eyes.
As I look back, I really don’t feel my decision to reach out to her was costly as it
was character-building. I don’t regret befriending her. Our friendship taught me two
valuable lessons I will never forget : Get to really know someone before you share your
secrets and People will do anything to be popular, even if it means hurting you. Costly
good choices build character and teach you lesson; they grow us.
