FAMILY CHANGES SINCE 1960
I tend to agree with experts in their debate of the weakening of ties between families as the factor resulting in to a ‘rotten’ society. In the 1960’s, families were ran by both the man and the wife. Fathers took the responsibility of working while women took care of the young and family chores. (Pew Research Center 2010). Changes occurred when mothers started to work to support their families. Inner family residents dealt with single parenthood resulting from jailing of the father or death or from unwilling to support the family. This lead children to take care of themselves as mothers were busy looking for work as the economy had drastically changed. Divorces rocked most families that brought rifts between children and parents. Children needed their parental love but the parents tried to occupy their children. The children grew up with many problems. Mothers could keep up to 3 hubbies. Increase in income and the changing personalities among members of the family led to more and more changes. People had forsaken the old way of doing things (man at work, women at home taking care of the family) (Davis, 1991).
I am on the side of experts. Some of the things I would propose for stronger ties between families are love, loyalty, commitment, communication, laughter, leadership, spiritual wellness and time together. Other things to make the family stronger are working hard to make the best income for your family to be contented with what they have. Learning life in marriage, parenting, life and family are also a key factor to a happy family. Each member should keep the family priorities and values ringing in their minds. Most individual don’t realize the importance of a family thus see no need to better it leading to he break up of it.( James, 2008).
A successful family is made of good communication, appreciation, spending more time with ones family and reinforcing the commitments. Spiritual wellness has the good in that it enables individuals in a family cope up with crises; appreciate one another, seeing the importance of one spending time with his/her family and the commitments to each other. Good communication between children and paren5ts and between a husband and a wife is the key to a successful family. This would result to no problems to the society.

Audience participants will be able to:
(1) Articulate why a central role for families is needed for the effectiveness of clinical and research programs in Global Mental Health (GMH);
(2) Describe how health categories that focus solely on individuals can obscure awareness of relational, social, and cultural processes that contribute to health and illness.
Abstract:
From a family perspective, the Global Mental Health Movement appears as a regressive step to the usual Western health categories that focus on individuals as bearers of larger issues in the family, community, society and culture. These larger envelopes are addressed in the impersonal way of categories—e.g., child abuse, substance abuse, violence, and treatment gaps—rather than from the relational, social and cultural perspectives that define mental health and illness more fully, meaningfully, and realistically. These aspects of GMH may deepen the practitioners’ perception of public health and epidemiology and their international organizations as being removed from clinical concerns and from their meaningful relational contexts. Without such notions as attachment and belonging, ignoring the most significant of human relationships based on the family and community, GMH risks creating another disembodied field divorced from our lived experience as communal and relational beings.

He works with migrant children and families and the impacts of trauma. Two important factors to consider when preparing to talk with Seamus about his concerns are the potential reactions of his family and peers, as well as any previous struggle that Seamus has had with depression/anxiety or any other health matters (Ryan, 2010). I would want to know if Seamus has ever dealt with suicidal ideation or tendencies, which would drastically alter the treatment plan and necessitate more support for Seamus (Laureate Education, 2014c). Another important factor is how Seamus anticipates his family finding out which may cause additional stress and anxiety (Ryan, 2010).
One factor Seamus should consider before approaching his family is to know how accepting or rejecting his family is, which sometimes has a lot to do with religious beliefs (Ryan, 2010). It would be helpful for Seamus to create a support network in order to deal with his family once he has told them, as sometimes families can make things a lot more difficult and have negative life outcomes for children that are in the LBTQ community and do not have the support from their families (Ryan, 2010). The support group can either be family or friends, though studies have proven that extended members of families like cousins and uncles can also create a super supportive atmosphere which benefit the LBTQ teen (Ryan, 2010).
One strategy to reduce risk or bolster Seamus’ resilience in the face of possible negative consequences of his family would be to get a therapist for Seamus that he would see regularly (Laureate Education, 2014c). It would also be helpful to consult with an MFT in order to help the family cope with the news and learn to accept their child with this new information (Laureate Education, 2014c).

A factor that I would consider when preparing to speak with Seamus about his concerns is to help assure him that his sexual preference is absolutely fine. I would want him to be self confident and not change his sexual preference based on what his peers perceive him as. Another factor to be considered is to develop an understanding of homosexual males and the criticism that they receive on the daily. According to Roof (1992), science has scrutinized the homosexuality of males "objectively", which in return has produced evidence that revitalizes hackneyed beliefs in the "essentially" non-masculine nature of gay men.

The Role of Family Dynamics in Teenage Suicide
Worldwide, every 20 seconds a person takes their own life, accounting for 1.4% of all deaths (Bilsen, 2018). While statistically, suicide ranks as the fifteenth leading cause of deaths, for adolescents it ranks as the second leading cause of death (Bilsen, 2018). That fact is of significant concern for mental health service providers focusing their work on adolescents. Recognizing warning signs, and suicide prevention geared towards children and youth, is likely the most important function of counselors, both inside and outside of the school setting. I, having personally been touched by one successful suicide attempt, and one unsuccessful attempt, by teenagers within the small community I grew up in.
As a high school student, one of the members of my cheerleading squad committed suicide, by overdosing on medications. In retrospect, many of us were aware of the discontent she often talked about concerning her step-father, and his strict expectations for her. Ivy was an outstanding student, very gifted academically, beautiful, talented, super friendly and easy-going. Yet, regardless of all of these positive attributes, Ivy and her step-father could not seem to understand the needs of the other. The constant stress and demand of not seeming to meet expectations, at a time in her life when she was engaged in making critical life-choices concerning college choices, finally led her to remove herself from the situation in the only manner she knew how. Adolescents are “often confronted with high expectations, sometimes too high, from significant relatives and peers. Such situations inevitably provoke a certain degree of helplessness, insecurity, stress and a sense of losing control (Bilsen, 2018).
Poor communication within the family is also found in many cases of suicide, not only with the child or about the child's problems, but in general between family members. Direct conflicts with parents have a great impact, but so do the absence of communication and neglect of communication needs (Bilsen, 2018). While these factors were present in the case of Ivy’s suicide, they were also present, in combination with other risk factors, in the attempted suicide of a teenage relative. Keith is the youngest of four. His older siblings had either all married within the past three years, or were in college, while he had just graduated high school. His parents were in the process of divorce. Keith and his dad were never close, and never really communicated with each other without arguing. The structure that high school had provided had been an important support for Keith. Faced with all of the upheaval within his family, at the same time his support network had been removed, was more than he could withstand. Luckily, Keith’s attempt to slash his wrists were not successful, and he was institu.

Worldwide, every 20 seconds a person takes their own life, accounting for 1.4% of all deaths (Bilsen, 2018). While statistically, suicide ranks as the fifteenth leading cause of deaths, for adolescents it ranks as the second leading cause of death (Bilsen, 2018). That fact is of significant concern for mental health service providers focusing their work on adolescents. Recognizing warning signs, and suicide prevention geared towards children and youth, is likely the most important function of counselors, both inside and outside of the school setting. I, having personally been touched by one successful suicide attempt, and one unsuccessful attempt, by teenagers within the small community I grew up in.
As a high school student, one of the members of my cheerleading squad committed suicide, by overdosing on medications. In retrospect, many of us were aware of the discontent she often talked about concerning her step-father, and his strict expectations for her. Ivy was an outstanding student, very gifted academically, beautiful, talented, super friendly and easy-going. Yet, regardless of all of these positive attributes, Ivy and her step-father could not seem to understand the needs of the other. The constant stress and demand of not seeming to meet expectations, at a time in her life when she was engaged in making critical life-choices concerning college choices, finally led her to remove herself from the situation in the only manner she knew how. Adolescents are “often confronted with high expectations, sometimes too high, from significant relatives and peers. Such situations inevitably provoke a certain degree of helplessness, insecurity, stress and a sense of losing control (Bilsen, 2018).
Poor communication within the family is also found in many cases of suicide, not only with the child or about the child's problems, but in general between family members. Direct conflicts with parents have a great impact, but so do the absence of communication and neglect of communication needs (Bilsen, 2018). While these factors were present in the case of Ivy’s suicide, they were also present, in combination with other risk factors, in the attempted suicide of a teenage relative. Keith is the youngest of four. His older siblings had either all married within the past three years, or were in college, while he had just graduated high school. His parents were in the process of divorce. Keith and his dad were never close, and never really communicated with each other without arguing. The structure that high school had provided had been an important support for Keith. You should refer to supporting material and examples from class readings, discussions, and research, with proper citations. The essay should not be a summary of the readings but examination of their meanings in systems of belief and reason. You should analyze the claims of authors and their implications. You should also develop an argument, or thesis, based on the synthesis of class readings.

The purpose of this collaborative writing exercise is to create an origin myth story of your own imagination. Using the examples from the origin myths in the DBR 200 iBook-create your own origin myth! What was there before the beginning of time? Of space? What does the universe look like in your imagination? Is there a “Creator” in your story? Or multiple “entities” that act like creators or instigators or accidents of nature? What do these “beings” or entities look like? How do they act? Are you telling the story from the perspective of ancient, primitive imaginations? Or is this story a translation or recital of the “original story” told by the “creators” or “first beings or entities?” What about the origins of humankind? How will you describe those events? What sort of relationship do those creatures have with the world or universe?
Step One-Try to address some of the issues I’ve raised above in your group discussions. Begin to sketch in some of the details you might like to include as a kind of framework or outline to your story.
Step Two-Continue to try to collect images or sounds that might be included in a multimedia representation of the story. You should immediately consider the restrictions/limitations to the kind of media that you can post on Tumblr. That will affect your choice of materials and how they are presented.
Step Three-Create the First draft version of the myth and use it to expand/contract depending on how the group wants the version to be received or understood/listened or viewed by your readers. You might even post it up and ask for feedback from “followers” on your Tumblr blogs.
Step Four-Post your final version on Tumblr. Each student in the group should post the same/group’s version of the origin story. I will reblog the final versions to everyone. Recognizing warning signs, and suicide prevention geared towards children and youth, is likely the most important function of counselors, both inside and outside of the school setting. I, having personally been touched by one successful suicide attempt, and one unsuccessful attempt, by teenagers within the small community I grew up in.
As a high school student, one of the members of my cheerleading squad committed suicide, by overdosing on medications. In retrospect, many of us were aware of the discontent she often talked about concerning her step-father, and his strict expectations for her. Ivy was an outstanding student, very gifted academically, beautiful, talented, super friendly and easy-going. Yet, regardless of all of these positive attributes, Ivy and her step-father could not seem to understand the needs of the other. The constant stress and demand of not seeming to meet expectations, at a time in her life when she was engaged in making critical life-choices concerning college choices, finally led her to remove herself from the situation in the only manner she knew how. Adolescents are “often confronted with high expectations, sometimes too high, from significant relatives and peers. Such situations inevitably provoke a certain degree of helplessness, insecurity, stress and a sense of losing control (Bilsen, 2018).
Poor communication within the family is also found in many cases of suicide, not only with the child or about the child's problems, but in general between family members. Direct conflicts with parents have a great impact, but so do the absence of communication and neglect of communication needs (Bilsen, 2018). While these factors were present in the case of Ivy’s suicide, they were also present, in combination with other risk factors, in the attempted suicide of a teenage relative. Keith is the youngest of four. His older siblings had either all married within the past three years, or were in college, while he had just graduated high school. His parents were in the process of divorce. Keith and his dad were never close, and never really communicated with each other without arguing. The structure that high school had provided had been an important support for Keith. Faced with all of the upheaval within his family, at the same time his support network had been removed, was more than he could withstand. Luckily, Keith’s attempt to slash his wrists were not successful, and he was institu.

A synthesis is a written discussion that draws on one or more sources. In an academic synthesis, you make explicit the relationships that you have inferred among separate sources, make judgments, draw conclusions and critique individual sources to determine the relationship among them. You should refer to supporting material and examples from class readings, discussions, and research, with proper citations. The essay should not be a summary of the readings but examination of their meanings in systems of belief and reason. You should analyze the claims of authors and their implications. You should also develop an argument, or thesis, based on the synthesis of class readings.

The purpose of this collaborative writing exercise is to create an origin myth story of your own imagination. Using the examples from the origin myths in the DBR 200 iBook-create your own origin myth! What was there before the beginning of time? Of space? What does the universe look like in your imagination? Is there a “Creator” in your story? Or multiple “entities” that act like creators or instigators or accidents of nature? What do these “beings” or entities look like? How do they act? Are you telling the story from the perspective of ancient, primitive imaginations? Or is this story a translation or recital of the “original story” told by the “creators” or “first beings or entities?” What about the origins of humankind? How will you describe those events? What sort of relationship do those creatures have with the world or universe?
Step One-Try to address some of the issues I’ve raised above in your group discussions. Begin to sketch in some of the details you might like to include as a kind of framework or outline to your story.
Step Two-Continue to try to collect images or sounds that might be included in a multimedia representation of the story. You should immediately consider the restrictions/limitations to the kind of media that you can post on Tumblr. That will affect your choice of materials and how they are presented.
Step Three-Create the First draft version of the myth and use it to expand/contract depending on how the group wants the version to be received or understood/listened or viewed by your readers. You might even post it up and ask for feedback from “followers” on your Tumblr blogs.
Step Four-Post your final version on Tumblr. Each student in the group should post the same/group’s version of the origin story. I will reblog the final versions to everyone. Describe the important aspects of sexuality (such as arousal and response, intimacy, contraception, etc.) that Nadia and Steve need to discuss.
