Welcome back to term 2!

We hope that you had a lovely
break and enjoyed some special
family time.

We are impressed with the way
the children have settled back
into their classroom routines
and their learning.

School hats do not need to be worn this
term.
!
Plain black shoes need to be worn. Please
do not send your child to school wearing
socks and sandals.
!
Children can wear the grey undershirt.
This can be worn with or without the polo
shirt.
!
Girls may wear black tights (not footless)
or knee-high black socks, during the
winter terms.
!
Hair that reaches the shoulders should be
tied back. This applies to both girls and
boys. Any hair ties, head bands or hair
clips are to be in the school colours of
black, red, white or brown.
!
No fingernail polish is to be worn to
school.

2. What are we
learning about
this term?
Topic

There is a real Science
flavour to this term.
Each classes inquiry is
focussed on our science
theme ‘Planet Earth and
beyond’.
!
The children will display
a celebration of their
learning in the School
Hall on the 2nd June.
!
Please come and look at
their learning.
!
Mathematics
!
Our mathematics
programmes are
continuing with
numeracy knowledge and
strategies, mainly
addition and
subtraction. The
children will also be
learning about shapes
(2D and 3D) and
algebra (patterns).

Writing
!
The children will
continue to ‘write to
instruct’. They will look
at following instructions
and writing instructions
based around our topic.

The children will also
be writing to recount
about personal
experiences that they
have had.
!
Matariki
!
Matariki is the Maori
New Year. This
celebration will be
happening late June.
!
During Matariki your
child will learn:

•the feasts of Matariki
•Maori musical
instruments
•cloaks of Matariki
•guardians of Matariki

MR MCGEE AND THE
BITING FLEA
On Monday the 23rd of June the
children are going to see this book
being dramatised on stage at the
Vodafone Events Centre.
