1. LI-FI is a technology that transmits data through illumination by using LED light bulbs that vary in intensity faster than the human eye can perceive.
2. Professor Harald Haas from the University of Edinburgh is widely recognized as inventing LI-FI. Initial research on visible light communication was funded from 2010-2012.
3. LI-FI provides an alternative to radio frequency wireless technologies by using the visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, which has not been fully utilized and has advantages of being more secure, having higher capacity, and avoiding issues with limited radio spectrum availability.
2. • LI-FI is transmission of data through illumination ,ie
sending data through a LED light bulb that varies in
intensity faster than human eye can follow.
DEFINITION
3. HISTORY
Professor harald haas, from the university of edinburgh in the UK, is widely recognised as the original
founder of li-fi.
The general term visible light communication (vlc), includes any use of the visible light portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum to transmit information.
The d-light project at edinburgh's institute for digital communications was funded from january 2010 to
january 2012.
Haas promoted this technology in his 2011 ted global talk and helped start a company to market it.
Pure lifi, formerly pure vlc, is an original equipment manufacturer (oem) firm set up to commercialize li-
fi products for integration with existing led-lighting systems.
By august 2013, data rates of over 1.6 gbit/s were demonstrated over a single colour LED.

12. LIFI Architecture
The novel architecture of Li-Fi technology is based on the MLU, AL and Li-Fi cloud.
The MLU is extended to the ALs where every AL has their own Li-Fi cloud to provide
internet and other services connectivity through light.
The main line is connected to the MLU and further it is extended to small nodes which are
LED bulbs or lamps e.g. AL1, AL2, AL3 and AL4

19. • Li-Fi may not be able to replace conventional radios altogether, but it could turbo charge the
development of wireless television and make it easier to throw a wireless signal across an entire
house.
• Large scale areas that are saturated with radio signals or that doesn’t permit them for security
reasons could use Li-Fi as an alternate high-speed wireless network solution.
• The possibilities are numerous and can be explored further, If this technology can be put into
practical use , every bulb can be used something like a Wi-Fi hotspots to transmit wireless
data.
