Colin Powell's Life and Career as a Four-Star General and Secretary of State
1. Colin
Powell
I'm doing an essay on Colin Powell. He is a four star general who has
retired. His job was to work for the president as the 65th Secretary of
State. I wrote this paper,so I will tell you about Colin Powell's life as a
general and a soldier. He earned two Purple Heart awards and a
soldier medal by stepping on an punji stick, and for saving a man from a
helicopter crash.
Colin Powell was born in Harlem, New York April 5, 1937. He knew
his parents were Jamaican immigrants, Luther and Maud Powell. He
had gone to New York College. While he was there he learned
Geology, where he found the calling to be in the ROTC (reserved
officers training corps). He also attended a lot of public schools. His
neighborhood had a lot of White people in it.
He wanted to become the first Black President, but every time he
brought it up, someone would say, "When a Negro becomes president,
what do you do? You would call it the "Black House." They would say
Colin didn't like that at all, so he stayed quiet.
I chose Colin Powell because he was a soldier who would save lives.
He was a man who would risk his life to save America. If I could meet
him I would salute with pride. He impacted my life so I can be more like
him.
In Colin's life, he wanted to take a break from soldiering, so he
retired. From then on, he got married and had three lovely little kids. He
died at the age of 76. His children are still alive and his legacy lives on
in their hearts.
