Since 2010
Planning vs. Opportunity
Our Objective

5. How are we going to manage over
1000 iPads in our school?

The role of the
learner profile
The original idea was incepted by Mr Michael Chian in 2010
Previously Fairview was in a growth stage, many things have changed, new campuses built. We now have the infrastructure to deliver this initiative
We must stay true to our objective, nothing is more important than the learning happening. If we must not lose site of this and always respect this. All of our planning and implementation must work towards this shared vision.
We are currently nearing the end of our preparatory phase, we have been building processes and infrastructure to support the pilot, including initial teacher testing.
We will enter the pilot in January with grades 5 & 6 affected. In Penang and Johor Bahru, only grades 5 and 6 will pilot the iPads, with the MYP rollout happening in August. Grade 4 and lower levels are not on this timeline, however this is being discussed within the leadership team.
Give context of video: We are showing you a clip of a school which successfully implemented 1-2-1 iPads in the UK. This will help you see a few of the benefits of iPad integration.

Recommended to cut off halfway to save time
First of three major questions which parents will ask
Hardware – Keys for locks on classroom door made available to teachers
Process letter for requesting lockers will come out at same time as iPad forms
Our MDM solution is Casper (refer to later video), it is a software which allows teachers to control the apps, documents or URL (websites) that their students visit. It also allows them to limit their access to games as well as only allowing them to download the apps we want them to download.
Digital citizenship is from the teachers – Key names: Howard Gardner and Will Richardson
The teachers will be responsible for teaching students what to do in the event of going to an illicit website by mistake, behaving responsibly online, preventing cyber bullying and making sure students are following the learner profiles whilst online.

Three methods of acquiring an iPad – PLEASE ENSURE parents understand that this is not compulsory as we are in a pilot phase, if they strongly feel that their child shouldn’t have an ipad for whatever reason, that is their choice to make
Important to mention they can bring from home, but has to go through IT dept to install Casper, recommended to back up because we will reset for educational purposes
Upsell the idea of purchasing from school
We can easily install Casper
It may be cheaper (approx RM 2000 for iPad Air 2 (aka iPad 6) Wifi, 64GB memory, we will match or undercut local prices)
Payment plan
Very important
Yellow box – We are living in a 21st century world, students need to be prepared to work with devices, not just use them for games
Red box – Schools showed massive engagement improvement, cite Hove park whose student engagement went up to over 80%, state the excitement of a child having an iPad in school
Green box – Data at our finger tips, wikipedia, google search, research capability. Mention the flipped classroom pedagogy and reiterate the need for teachers to teacher Digital Citizenship
Purple box – last but not least, improved feedback channels, easy and fast to give students formative assessment and feedback. Improved communication with parents.
Allow for questions, but make sure that parents write them down along with their email (make a quick exit card). Only answer questions verbally if you are 100% you have the correct information.
Your all done, great job with the presentation! ;)
