Essay about The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar...
The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar Advertisement
The Takamine guitar advert can be viewed as an effective piece of media in an array of different
ways. The ways used play on a very unconventional style, which is not often used for a musical
instrument. For example most guitar advertisements would use such images as a lead guitarist of a
band standing tall whilst making his guitar scream out whilst he is backed by a huge amp or some
such and the other.
The first thing that this advertising piece has you drawn to is its picture, although on first sight you
can't actually see what it is trying to portray as it is a picture of a girl sitting and staring at a boy who
is playing to her in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The background of the image is distorted and blurred so as to show exactly where you should be
looking and so draws the attention to the couple and the guitar. Although, the guitar may be key to
this picture but the headstock that holds the company brand name is off the view of the lens, this
could have been a clever ploy as to make the viewer read on and find out what the brand is.
It is always an awfully easy thing to sell a guitar over any other instrument as it is a very glamorous
instrument (unlike a bass) and so the people used are also very young and attractive in themselves.
This gives a sense of youth to the company and would make them much more appealing to a buyer,
especially a first time buyer.
Now onto the text: the text used in this piece is very peculiar indeed and for the most of it the idea of
the guitar has shifted onto that of a partnering agency. Many of the words used such as "partner",
"right for you" and "wonderful" cast up totally different thoughts from that of a guitar and this is
where the adverts key selling point really delivers.
It leads on in such a way that you must read on to understand what is actually going on in the advert
and leaves you in complete shock at the end when they refer you to go to "Your local Takamine
trader" to

Guitar Industry Analysis Paper
Tone Woods
What's your first thought when you hear a mind–blowing guitar? For me I used to gravitate towards
the pickups, or the manufacturer. But after working on many guitars and building a few, I started to
gain a respect for the relationship between wood and tone. The overall tone of a guitar can often
times get overlooked. When deciding on your perfect guitar you need to consider every factor.
Here, at Halo Custom guitars, we realize the importance of not only building quality guitars but also
informing the customer on every aspect of a custom build. We want to provide the customer with the
essential information required to achieve the ultimate tone you're after. You design it, we build it.

The beefy mids and excellent lows help as well. Alder is commonly used around the industry for its
lightweight and complete sound. Tan in color with soft tight pores, Alder is visually ideal for solid
colors or sunbursts. Often associated with the tone of a Fender, being the main body wood used by
Fender since 1956.
Basswood was popular around the 80's and favored among shredders for its ability to produce
smooth sounds deprived of sharp edges. The light color and almost non–existent grain pattern make
this wood great for solid colors or backing a figured top. It is stiff, lightweight, and very stable
making it very popular among builders in the industry. Overall basswood is growly, with a warm
tone and nice mids.
Within the guitar industry there are two widely used types of Ash, there's Northern Ash and Swamp
Ash, Swamp ash typically comes from the Southern Parts of America. Their root systems grow
under water, ultimately lightening the wood and adding stiffness. Swamp Ash is highly resonate
with a mid–range roar. Northern Ash is very heavy, hard and dense creating sustain and bright tones.

Essay On Maestro Guitars
Maestro Guitars is Singapore's one and only brand that handcrafts its own guitars and ukuleles. It all
started in 2004, when founder Ho Zen Yong, a former Singapore Management University (SMU)
student decided to open his own shop in Peninsula Excelsior Hotel after learning his guitar making
skills from an English luthier Chris Horton, in Goa. Maestro Guitars was then born. The company's
name, Maestro was inspired by the Spanish word that means "master" in music. Maestro Guitars is
best–known for its custom–made guitars that are handcrafted in a 100% humidity controlled facility
to ensure its quality. The company has many partnerships with well known brands that manufacture
part of a guitar like Elixir, a world known brand for guitar strings of durable quality and beautiful

Comparison Essay: Guitar Vs Milkman
Guitar acts as Milkman's best friend, even though they both have completely different beliefs and
ideas. Despite being Milkman's friend, Guitar shows both the better and worse sides of Milkman,
being a supporting character that is used to build up Milkman's character, such as the name Guitar
suggests. All famous musicians don't just use a single guitar to write songs, they're normally paired
up with other instruments, vocalists, or even another guitar. Guitars are made to support music, and
even tho they can have their own solo, it's not the main attraction. MIlkman is the main attraction
and Guitar is his influential sidekick. Not only is his name shows his supportive role, but it also
shows how opposite of Milkman he is; Milkmen are boring,

The Classical Guitar: The History Of The Romantic Guitar
Introduction
The classical guitar, also referred to as "nylon string guitar" or "Spanish guitar" is a plucked
instrument with six strings from the instruments family called chordophones . The classical guitar is
known well for its right–hand technique that is comprehensive, and allows the soloist to perform
complex polyphonic and melodic material just like the piano . Typically, the instrument is
characterized by its strings with the 3–bass strings (E–A–d) hat are made of the nylon fiber and
wound by a metal thread, the treble strings (g–b–e) made of nylon. Despite the fact that strings of
the guitar are today made of nylon, from the old traditions, the animal strings are still available. The
paper will discuss the history of classical guitar where it will briefly discuss the medieval,

Modifications in the guitar during this period and the improved communication and transportation

Twentieth–century guitar to present
According to Schwarz & Haringer , three trends have shaped classical guitar history and classical
guitar development construction, its plating techniques and its repertoire. The first trend was
growing interest in music. Second is the trend of specialization among artists to be a performer or a
composer. The last trend has been a trend of long solo performances to large audiences or the
virtuosi players.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the paper discussed the history of classical guitar. Classical guitar has a long history
and has been in existence for many centuries. The development of guitar has changed from the
medieval period, renaissance, baroque era, the classical era, romantic era and finally in the twentieth

Acoustic Guitar Research Paper
So you've decided you want to buy your first beginner acoustic guitar. It can be frustrating trying to
figure out which one to buy. With this post I've tried to make the process a little easier by doing a lot
of research for you. All the beginner guitars reviewed for this post are from manufactures that have a
reputation for quality and have been around a long time.
I would advise against buying the cheapest guitar you can find. Even though you're beginning to
play the guitar you want a decent sound. You want a low action so it's easier to play and learn on.
Since the beginner guitar player is usually not going to go out and spend big money on a new
acoustic guitar I've taken a look at some guitars under $400 dollars.
They're all top sellers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Washburn D10S – If you compare this guitar to others in the price range the Washburn D10S
acoustic guitar is in the top of the class. This absolutely is a great beginner guitar or for someone
who wants a good sounding guitar but can't afford to break the bank. I read an article about the
Washburn D10S in Acoustic Guitar Magazine and they rated it the best guitar for under 500 bucks!
4. Seagull the Original S6 – This is another great beginner guitar. It's consistently a top seller at all
the online music stores and the Seagull S6 won the silver medal in Acoustic Guitar magazine's
player's choice awards for 2008. It won the gold for "best beginner guitar" in 2006.
The Seagull S6 cedar acoustic guitar is a great–looking a beginner guitar. It's an award winner that
has the perfect combination of precision and low price!
5. Yamaha F335 – This is a good guitar to start learning on and will be quite helpful for a beginner
guitar player because the action is low. Action refers to the space between the strings and the
fretboard and a low action is much easier to play for the beginner.

Guitar Recital Essay
Guitar Recital This project was interesting to me because I really don't take the time to listen to
different types of music like classical guitar. This was my first time listening to this type of music
and it was pretty good. It showed me that there are more than a few types of music out there. The
CD I chose was the 2013 Guitar Recital by Philip Hemmo. The tracks that where on it are Ciaconna,
Introduction et Polonaise, Adagio, Caprice, Danza Mora, Julia Florida and Sevillana. My favorite
song was Adagio which homage to J. S. Bach. It was calm and was played a perfect speed. It slowed
down and sped up through the whole song. Also the volume of the guitar was quit and loud threw
the different parts of the song. It is also a very long song

Playing Guitar Research Paper
It may sound complicated, but with a little time and effort, playing guitar is actually a lot simpler
than it sounds. Playing guitar, like many other instruments, has many different components. You
need to be familiar with a guitar and its parts, and know how to properly hold it before playing. You
also need to know how to really get a good sound out. To build off of your guitar skills, you first
need to know chord shapes, strumming and picking patterns.
Before you can really start to play guitar, you have to be familiar with the parts. There is two main
parts of a guitar. The body and the neck. The body is the hollow base of the guitar with an opening
for the sound to echo in. This is where the strings are played. The neck is an extension from the
body, where the strings extend over the frets. This is where the chords are played. The frets of the
guitar are the raised lines along the neck of the guitar. These are used to ... Show more content on

First you need to hold the guitar against your body with the neck facing left, the body near your
abdomen, and the strings facing forward. For most people, the left hand controls the chords on the
neck of the guitar, and the right hand controls the playing of the strings. The left hand and arm
should go under the neck of the guitar so you can reach all of the strings with the left hand. The right
hang should rest on the top of the body of the guitar with the wrist and hand loosely above the
opening of the body. You should hold your hand and wrist somewhat loose to make strumming
easier. On your left hand, your first four fingers should be curled to the front of the neck of the
guitar and your thumb should stay on the back of the neck. When playing a string, you want to use
the tip of your finger to push down on the string, on the fret you want to play. You want to make

Lutherie; the art of crafting stringed instruments is a skill that dates back to antiquity. Since the
creation of the lyre, luthiers have developed many stringed instruments, such as the harp, the violin,
and the lute, but, considerably, one of the most important stringed instruments in modern times is
the guitar. Guitarists are responsible for shaping a sizeable bulk of modern music via their diverse
methods of playing. And this is because of how they are crafted. It truly is an art. What will it take to

The Popularity Of Guitar And The Phenomenal Success Of The...
The rise in popularity of guitar bands and the phenomenal success of the Guitar Hero video game
franchise has lead to more and more people picking up the guitar recently. Sales of guitars in the UK
has hit an all time high in the past three years and as more and more people are starting to play, the
guitar has surpassed the piano as the most widely learned instrument in schools.
With all these people learning I thought I 'd pass on some tips from my 10 years of experience
playing guitar and help point people in the right direction as they start learning their technique. In
this article I 've listed some things that I feel are very important to playing well but are often
overlooked by those just starting out. If you 're a seasoned player then there won 't be much here for
you, but if you 're new to playing guitar then hopefully I can help out and perhaps shed some light
on things you maybe hadn 't thought about before.
Theory
The one factor that has improved my guitar playing beyond any other was taking the time out to
learn the basics of music theory. Once you manage to break out of the pentatonic scales so overly
used by rock guitarists you 'll find that your song–writing and improvisation will come on in leaps
and bounds. Believe it or not, by learning the scales you 'll actually become far more free than when
you didn 't know them. Ironically, learning the rules of music has left me much more open to play
expressively than before. Don 't forget that once you know them,

If this isn't the case, turn the guitar the in other direction. Typically, a right–handed person will hold
the guitar so the headstock points to the left, whereas a left–handed person will hold the guitar so the
headstock points to the right. (NOTE: to play the guitar as a lefty would, you will need a left–
handed guitar.)When playing the guitar sitting down, the body of the guitar will rest on one of your
legs. In most styles of guitar playing, the guitar will rest on the leg farthest away from the
headstock. This means, a person playing the guitar in a right–handed fashion will typically rest the
guitar on his/her right leg, while someone playing the guitar in a lefty manner will rest it on their left
leg. (NOTE: proper classical guitarist technique dictates the exact OPPOSITE of the above, but for
this lesson, let's stick to our initial explanation) |
Next, concentrate on your "fretting hand" (the hand closest to the neck of the guitar, when sitting in
proper position). The thumb of your fretting hand should rest behind the neck of the guitar, with
your fingers in a slightly curled position, poised above the strings. It is extremely important to keep
these fingers curled at the knuckles, except when specifically instructed not to do so. | | | Part 5:

Research Paper On Fender Guitars
I bet everyone has heard of the famous Fender guitars. But who is the man behind all of the success
and the great guitars? Who renovated the whole music world?
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation – better known as Fender, was founded by Clarence
Leonidas "Leo" Fender in 1946. Originally the company was called Fender Electric Manufacturing
Company. As you may notice Fender's official name has been and still is quite long. That is why we
now know this famous company by its shorter name: Fender.
Like many other companies, Fender also started from the bottom. Leo Fender, the man behind all
the success, started his business by repairing radios, phonograph players, and amplifiers. This was
quite a successful business back then, but soon Leo Fender started to aim higher. After he started to

This deal obviously made Leo Fender rich, but he also gave up his years of hard work. Still, after

amazing instruments for people.
What is Fender nowadays? Fender is still known for its several instruments such as the guitars,
basses, ukuleles mandolins and the amplifiers. There is so much to talk about Fender and it's guitars,
but this time the focus is on the electric guitars and more specifically in Stratocaster.
Stratocaster, as I earlier mentioned, was first introduced in 1954. So what was then so special about
this guitar? Stratocaster was the first guitar with three pickups and a spring tension tremolo system.
This was also a first Fender guitar with a contoured body. Stratocaster had this double cutaway
design which made playing in the upper registers easier. This new design was quite a helpful to
musicians. Back then it could not be foreseen how popular this one guitar would someday

Physics of Electric Guitars Essay
Introduction
More than any other instrument, the electric guitar has shaped and redefined music in the last
century. Although popular culture did not pay much attention to it when it was first introduced in the
1930s, it has since become equated with the very essence of rock and roll music. On an international
level, the electric guitar is by far "the most famous instrument to come out of the United States"
(howstuffworks.com).
Background
Inventors have been playing with the idea of electrically powered musical instruments since the
1800s, but "the first attempts at an amplified instrument did not come until the development of
electrical amplification by the radio industry in the 1920s."

* The vibrations of the strings can be quantified and calculated according to basic laws in physics.
These include certain relationships between velocity, wavelength, and frequency and equations that
describe the motion of a string fixed at both ends.
How Pick–Ups Work:
Electric guitar pick–ups work by employing "principles of magnetic induction." The pick–ups are
composed of small electromagnets (magnets that are wrapped with a coil of wire, thus allowing an
electric current to flow through them). Because of their close proximity to the strings, these magnets
induce a north and south pole on the strings. When the string is played, it begins to oscillate, or
move in a wave–like fashion. This affects the field surrounding the pick–up and causes a change in
the magnetic field. These changes, or fluctuations in the magnetic field are transmitted through the
wires connecting the pick–up(s) to the output jack and are thus relayed to the amplifier where they
are sent to the speaker and converted from electrical energy once again into motion energy (sound).
(Brain, n.p.)
Electromagnets can turn electrical energy into motion. Likewise the converse is true: they can turn
motion into electrical energy.
Such is the case with electric guitar pick–ups.
Waves on a String:
A guitar string is an example of "a string fixed at both ends which is elastic and can vibrate."

It is the most important part. When all is said and done, guitars that sound better are by default
better. The category of tone has been dominated by Fender and Gibson. The two guitars offer the
best sound at the best price. The key to good tone and sound is good pickups. Pickups are located
underneath the strings, by where the picking takes place. He pick up the electromagnetic waves
from the string and send them out of the guitar. Stats use three single coil pickups with the third one
slightly slanted. These type of pickups offer a very distinct sound only fender is capable of creating.
It is best described as twangy and crisp. They sound extremely bright and behave well in all genres
of music. The single coil pickups are sloppy and primitive, but that is all part of the Fender sound.
Gibson Les Pauls uses what are called humbucker pickups. These are essentially just two single
coiled pickups placed right next to each other. What this does is that all the background buzz and
feedback that the guitar picks up is killed. These pickups are better described as warm and soft, they
seem to fill the air better. But what makes Gibsons special is the way they behave using overdrive.
Distortion pedals give Gibsons a crunchy sound that is the staple of heavy

Essay on The Evolution of the Modern Guitar
The modern guitar can be easily acknowledged as one of the most influential and renown
instruments in the world. The guitar recognized today has been around for hundreds of years and it
is still leaving a legacy in the musical world. Some early iterations of the guitar dating back as far as
1400 BC have evolved into what is known as the modern guitar through design innovation. Before
the use of synthetic materials in the development of guitars, a guitar was defined as being an
instrument having "a long, fretted neck, flat wooden soundboard, ribs, and flat back, most often with
curved sides" (citation). The oldest known guitar–like instrument that displayed these features was

The four course guitar was popular throughout the lute dominated Europe. It was a small bodied
guitar and consisted of ten frets. Those frets were not the kind that of the fixed variety, but instead
were movable since they were made out of gut and tied around the neck. The back of the instrument
tended to be slightly rounded with a distinct ridge up the center like the hull of a boat. The achieved
the feat of phasing out the lute, even if it was only temporarily, but soon its popularity started to
decline giving way for the five course guitar. 16th century players and theorists believed that the
four course guitar had much musical limitations. The instrument underwent series of alterations to
lessen these limitations transforming it to the five course guitar. The first change was the addition of
the fifth course and tuned lower than the fourth course. Also the body of the guitar was enlarged to
accommodate a longer string from 55.5 cm to 63 cm, nearly that of a modern guitar. Its form
retained for the following 200 years. Although the five course guitar remained popular throughout
most of Europe, one instrument specifically renowned in Spain and Italy greatly influenced the
development of the guitar. The Spanish vihuela can be considered as the seminal influence in the
development of the guitar. The Vihuela consisted of six doubled strings made of gut and had a
guitar–like body. Its size was comparable to a classical guitar.

Device that Can Process the Output of a Guitar Pickup and...
The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar
pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the
projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from
the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together,
the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each
strings fundamental frequency. The tuning peg is then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a
microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which
utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency.
Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric
guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis and
problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other devices
out there such as Tropical Tune's Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our design has
proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual hardware, in this
case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. The copper wire design that
allows for multiple–string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a convenient, easy to carry
tuning device. The

Guitars have a long history, some types even dating back to 1500 B.C.! The modern guitar has been
played for many years, as far back as the 1920s to 1940s era of jazz. Guitars have also influenced
many genres around the world. Guitars have been a major part of popular music for many decades.
Guitars have many models, in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Some of the oldest guitar–like
instruments were the bowl harp and tanbur. Bowl harps were made of tortoise shells or calabashes as
resonators, or amplifiers, for their hollow shape. The neck was made of a bent stick, with strings

Before the 1920s, guitar music as more on the classical side with Spanish guitarists like Fernando
Sor and Francisco Tárrega. A new music style was born from spiritual music and old slave songs to
jazz and blues, which changed guitar music forever. During the 1920s, Kansas City bands played a
musical style with a 4 even ground beat. Traditional New Orleans jazz had a 2 ground beat. This has
been believed to have paved the way for modern jazz. Also in the 20s, Kansas City became the
wildest city in America, which was perfect for jazz. Charley Patton, or the "Father of Delta Blues",
"channeled the feelings and sounds of slave songs and spirituals into a new art form: the Blues."
(History of Modern Guitar Playing"). In the 1930s, swing music started taking a new meaning and
began to form into its permanent form. Also Jean "Django" Reinhardt invented "hot" jazz techniques
and influenced many bands of many different genres, including art–rock. In the 1940s, Woody
Guthrie brought more of a folk sound to blues and jazz. Also, T–Bone Walker became the 1st artist
to record blue on the electric guitar. In the 1950s, Les Paul signed with Gibson guitars. Although he
was a guitarist, he was remembered more for his guitar model with Gibson: the Gibson Les Paul.
The guitar was the 1st solid–body electric guitar that was for the to the public. The model was used
by the iconic Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. Also, Scotty Moore rewrote the role of the lead
guitarist of a band by placing it forward and in front of the bass and drum rhythm. B.B. King
introduced blues to style and fluidity and practically invented the guitar solo. Chuck Berry was one
of the very first people to combine blues styles with rock and roll styles, bringing a large audience.
Elvis was a huge icon in the 50s. His guitar style added to the rock and roll image he was creating
for himself. Like Elvis, Jimi Hendrix was n icon in the 60s and still is today.

but it implicitly sells sex and suicide.
Gibson guitars are directing this ad to older teenage and young male adults. The audience is young
enough that they are still debating on what career path that they want to go down. To some of this
audience, this ad would grab their attention by thinking this guitar should get them laid. This aspect
would be directed mainly towards young males. Also, some guitars give the sexy and spontaneous
impression, which in a young male's eyes, is a perfect career. The ad is also saying that if a person
doesn't get laid because of a guitar, they should just kill themselves. By analyzing the statement and
ad picture, music involves sex and

The Electric Guitar In The 1920's
Music reflects the cultural trends and artistic inspiration of that current time. Because of how rapidly
changing society is, music has shifted through different stages quickly and thus has had the need for
innovation. The electric guitar was born out of necessity to keep up with the musical trends of the
1920's and has since been a powerful influence in driving the music we have today. Contemporary
music has been strongly influenced by the Electric Guitar. It is staple instrument that is used in
nearly every genre and within every time period of the last century. Arguably, the Fender
Stratocaster has solidified its legacy as the most iconic instrument in contemporary music. In this
paper, I will argue that the success of the Electric Guitar was driven by technological, economical,
and cultural movements of the 20th century. . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the early 1800's Madrid was a thriving artistic centre which a huge emphasis on the arts. The
guitar was meant to be used as a tool for serious composers, Many notable composers such as
Ferandiere, Moretti, and Abreu were making music reflective of the political turmoil that was
happening in Europe at the time (Tyler 330). The modern guitar can be divided into the components
of the strings, the soundboard, and the soundbox. Overall, these components make up the system of
using a guitar. When a guitar string is plucked, it vibrates and creates a pressure wave consisting of
compressions and rarefactions. It is then transmitted by fluctuating air pressure. Because the strings
are attached to the soundboard, the sound is able to able to communicate the vibrations better. The
sound is then naturally amplified through the soundhole, which projects the vibrations to an audible

My Guitar Research Paper
Many new guitarists aren't sure of what kind of guitar they should buy when they decide to purchase
one. Myself, I spent months and thousands trying to find the right guitar. Five guitars later, I found
the right one and decided that nobody else should have to go through that ordeal. Here is a list of
things to look at when you are trying to decide which guitar is right for you.Tone This is probably
the single most important thing to look at in a guitar. Whether you are playing electric or acoustic,
country, rock, blues, or jazz, you need to have a tone that fits your musical genre. You wouldn't want
to play a guitar that is perfect for country music in a heavy metal band. Which guitars have the right

Well get ready to drown in a sea of confusing options like body styles, pickup choices, hardware
options, manufacturer differences and modeling capabilities just to name a few. If you walk into a
decent size music store these days you will be confronted with more options than what the latest
luxury SUV offers. Or you might be thinking about browsing an online music store. Now you have
even more choices than your local store.Fortunately, it is possible to group these choices together in
a list of options that you can bring to your music store salesperson. So, let's get started... STEP
ONE: IDENTIFY YOUR MUSICAL TASTE Do you want to rock? Are you into blues, jazz or
country? Answer this question and you'll greatly narrow down your choices. Certain types of guitars
are typically used for certain styles of music. (In the interest of maintaining a fair and objective
position on brand names and products I will refrain from mentioning specific brand names.) If it's
modern or classic rock you're into, you're going to want to find a solid–body guitar. For a thick, rich
tone you will want to select a guitar with "humbucking" pickups. For a brighter thinner tone choose
a guitar with "single–coil" pickups. If you're interested in those crazy 80's guitar tricks you might
want to find a guitar with a "floating tremelo" If not, go ahead and choose a standard bridge or a
fixed tailpiece. If you prefer a little country twang, you're probably going

History Development and Construction of a Classical Guitar
Carry out study of a Classical Guitar and write a report on its history, development and construction.
The classical guitar, sometimes called the Spanish or nylon strung guitar, consists of a hollow body
made with a top, back and sides constructed from thin pieces of wood carved and shaped to give the
familiar traditional figure of eight shape. A long narrow piece of wood, called the neck, is attached
to the body at one end and has, at the other end, a headstock to which are attached six tuning pegs,
each holds one of six nylon strings which it is able to tighten or loosen, for tuning the guitar. The six
nylon strings pass over the nut, a piece of bone inserted at the end of the neck to support the strings,

They are usually either Western Red Cedar obtained from the West Coasts of the USA and Canada
or Spruce sourced from many countries throughout Europe (The Art and Craft of Making Classical
Guitars, page 69).
The top–plate, cut to the traditional figure of eight shape, needs to be as thin as possible to allow it
vibrate freely, a thickness of between two and three millimetres is used (Guitarmaking, tradition and
technology, page104). Because it is a softwood it needs to be able to withstand the pressures exerted
on it by the strings and this is done by adding bracing. These are thin wooden struts, made from the
same wood as the top–plate, glued to the underside in a fan shape (see Figure 2), this bracing not
only adds strength but it also controls the way it vibrates and therefore has a big effect on the final
sound. A sound–hole is cut into the top–plate, in a position where it will intersect the end of the fret–
board at the nineteenth fret. A piece of binding is added around the inside of the sound–hole (called
a rosette) primarily to keep moisture out from the cut edge, although it has become very decorative
and its design can often identify the luthier (Harry Miller interview, September 1st 2011).
The neck, which needs to remain absolutely straight whilst under the pull of the strings, is
constructed from mahogany, a dense strong

Essay on The History of the Guitar
The Guitar is a stringed musical instrument with six or twelve strings that is played by either
plucking or strumming the strings. It is one of the most popular instruments in the world. If an
individual were asked to identify a guitar most people would answer the question correctly more so
than they would if they were asked about another instrument. When people think about famous
guitarists, they more than likely think of famous rock and roll guitarists and do not think about the
many other famous guitarists in other musical genres such as jazz or country. The guitar is a well–
known instrument that influences many musical genres including Country. The origins of the guitar
can be traced back to the Arabic oud. The Arabic oud is stringed ... Show more content on

The Guittern was shaped like a violin, played with a pick, and had the ability to be tuned in octaves
or in unison. This tuning ability was never used in other guitar instruments. Compared to the modern
day guitar, the Guittern lacked a movable bridge and a saddle. The Guittern was also the first
instrument to use wire strings instead the traditional gut strings used in stringed instruments (Kentor
Michael 4).
After the Guittern, the guitar's structure stayed the same and had little changes. One of the slightly
improved guitars was called the Ghitarra Battente. The Ghitarra Battente was the first guitarlike
instrument to use a saddle, a movable bridge, and led the trend towards metal frets (4). The Ghitarra
Battente helped the popularity of the guitar grow tremendously. This instrument somewhat slowed
down the development and improvements to the guitar until the 1500s. In the 1500s, the Vinuhela de
Mano was introduced to the world. The Vinuhela de Mano is the the largest guitar to date and set the
size for the modern guitar. This instrument had several soundholes on the top of the guitar, was
played using a pick, and used gut strings. The Vihuela de Mano resembles the modern twelve–
stringed guitars. The first publication of music for the guitar was published in 1564 and was called
"Tres Libros de Musica en Cifras para Vihuela." After the Vihuela de Mano, many forms of the

Guitar Meets the Piano
It has been a long time since I have challenged myself to fulfill something out of my customary
schedule. Bringing music closer into my life, would be something I would thank myself for in the
future. I have been playing the guitar since I was twelve, and when I was younger my brother had
taught me how to play the piano. However, I have had a piano sitting against a wall in my room, and
it has now been four years since I have played it. So, for the past twenty one days, I have challenged
myself to re–learn the piano. Throughout my process, I found many similarities and differences
between learning how to play the guitar and learning how to play the piano. The first obstacle I
encountered was trying to get access to the lessons. When I studied the guitar, I played by reading
sheet music. It was difficult and it acquired a lot of my time, since I did not know where the notes
were on the actual guitar. Then in high school, I took a guitar class and I was taught how to read
tabs. Tabs are an easy way to play the guitar, and they are especially useful for beginners. Tabs can
be simply described as a drawing of the guitar strings on paper. During that class, I was also driven

The Introduction of the Electric Guitar
According to the Smithsonian Institute, "electronic amplification is one of the most successful
innovations brought around at the end of the 1930s." The 1920s had a rise in the popularity of dance
music, and the recording industry was getting started. This was also the start of the Big Band Era
(guitaristsource.com). Guitar makers started experimenting to develop a new, louder, guitar.
Electrical amplification was developed by the radio industry in the 1920s (howstuffworks.com). In
1931, George Beauchamp and Adolf Rickenbacker would go on to develop an electromagnetic
pickup they would later use to create the electric guitar. This first model would go on to be called
the "Frying Pan", because of its resemblance to the cookware. This first model was often played flat
on the lap (howstuffworks.com). Eventually, electric guitars began commercial production in the
1930s (Goertzen 435). In 1939, Les Paul, an acoustic guitarist, developed a new type of electric
guitar by placing the old pickup on a solid block of wood. This new solid body guitar didn't have the
feedback problems that the hollow–bodied electric guitars had. Also, it had a greater sustain than
earlier models (howstuffworks.com). In order for an electric guitar to work, it needs a pickup and an
amplifier. Pickups are electro–magnetic pieces on the guitar's body, and they are usually found on
the guitar's body in between the bridge and the fretboard. These electro–magnets create magnetic
fields, which then

Guitar History
The guitar is a fretted, stringed instrument, and is a member of the lute family. It originated in Persia
and reached Spain during the twelth–century, where it¹s versatility as both a solo and accompanying
instrument were established. The theory of the guitar was discovered in the early centuries. They
found that the sound of a bowstring could be enhanced by attaching a resonating chamber –most like
a tortiseshell– to the bow. From the bow came essentially three main types of stringed instruments:
the Harp family, which was the sound of plucked strings indirectly transmitted to an attached sound
box. The second was the Lyre family, which was strings of a fixed pitch are attached to the directly

The first half of the 19th century was a time of great experimentation for the guitar. And many of the
innovations that were credited to 20th century makers were actually tried a century earlier. Some of
them included: The peghead with all six tuners on one side and scroll shape at the top, which is now
common of the fender guitars was tried in the 1800¹s by Staufer. Gibson came out with the raised 4
fingerboard in 1922. Actually it was done exactly 100 years earlier by Staufer and Ertel. In 1988
Fender introduced a scalloped fingerboard on one of it¹s models. Again this had been done in the
first half of the 1800¹s. Artist endorsement models like the Les Paul, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Chet
Atkins model¹s, which were of huge success had already been thought of and done like the Luigi
Legnani model by Staufer in 1820. In the early 20th century guitars began to develop into what we
know today. In 1903 the first Gibson catalog assured that instruments would be made of woods with
the most durable, elastic and sonorous qualities such as maple, mahogany, vermilion, and suitable
woods. They settled on maple but only the high–end mandolins were made of maple. It wasn¹t until
the mid–to–late1920¹s, when they finally began to make

The guitar, has its own realm of music and sound effects. This instrument is considered as Rock n

their hands can't make the big stretches that playing guitar sometimes requires. They mistakenly
think that their hand are too small to play guitar well. For most people, the issue is not hand size, but
hand and finger flexibility. This latter, is the first and the most important, phase in guitars world. All
the hard work should be aimed on getting flexible hands and fingers. It's is the key to success.

Cologne Guitar Town
Sponsored by The Gibson Foundation, Guitar Town is a famous event where a town is filled with
huge guitar sculptures replicas of Gibson most famous models. The event also includes special
concerts, workshops, lectures and get–together with guitar legends. So far, this event only once
came to Europe, was in London 2007.
After the exhibition of the guitars, they enter in an auction and the money generated is given to
social causes.
Gibson wishes to do such a program in Cologne. The need to enter and gain customer proximity in
the European market makes this an excellent choice and so, Gibson is seeking a partnership with
Music Store in order to bring the event to Cologne. Also, is important to state that joining both
brands in such invent is a way to Gibson generates a strategic position near a major retailer in
Europe.
Special Productions
As previous stated, although Music Store has in its catalogue several products from Gibson, truth is,
Gibson isn't in the best sellers list. The main reason identified for that is probably the premium
position that Gibson has. Their Guitars are priced above the regular and most sold guitars in the
store.
In order to invert this tendency, it may be possible to create a special line just for Europe and have
the launching fully dedicated to Music Store for a pre–determined set of time. This way it could be
price controlled, targeting an European Market that is investing less in premium

Electric Guitar Research Paper
With the increased pressure to "go electric," many artists who played the guitar at the height of the
Rock n Roll movement switched their acoustic instruments to electric versions. Unlike bass guitars,
which can often be converted into electric basses, a purely electric guitar will not produce melodic
sounds without the help of an amplifier which carries the tune produced through an electronic
current. Electric guitars also allow the player to partially manipulate the sound coming to the
amplifier through equalizing, distorting, and other methods.
If you want to teach yourself the electric guitar, you are going to first have to choose which type you
want to play. Many versions exist and it is up to you to decide which one fits your style or how
much dedication you really want to put into your practice. If you want to learn using classical

The next simplest instrument is the piano. Now, the piano can be quite tricky. There are so many
keys, it can be quite confusing. Also, the piano allows for the most complex chords of any
instrument. However, to play a simple melody, it is straightforward enough. On a piano, there are
black keys and white keys. On a regular piano, each key is a different note, one half–step apart from
the next, just like each fret on a bass or guitar. However, there is only one row of notes, unlike the
aforementioned bass or guitar, which (usually) has four and six rows respectively, because of the
different strings. The white keys on a piano are called "natural notes". Notes like A, E, and G are
natural notes. The keys are the sharps and flats. Notes like A# are what sounds when a black key is
pressed. Now, there are a few key (no pun intended) elements to playing piano if you have no idea
what you are doing. The first is only play one note at a time. The piano is capable of create some
quite beautiful and interesting chords if played correctly. But if you go and start combining notes
together at random, it makes for an unpleasant noise most of the time. If you play only one note at a
time, you only have to deal with the intervals (spaces between notes) that each note makes when
used in succession with another, rather than the intervals that are required to make lovely chords.
Next, don't play too many notes. If you keep the tempo (speed of the music) slower, and

specific design qualities to make the neck more accessible at higher frets and the strings more

My Desire For An Electric Guitar
Ever since I was younger I had this urge to play various instruments. No one in my family played an
instrument so there was no influence there for me. The only muse I had was from music and the
television shows that I watched. Moreover, from that influence I thought all the people who knows
how to play an instrument are remarkably nifty. The quality of sounds that the musicians are able to
produce made me feel like I was put into a trance. The intense passion that the musicians produced
gave me an itch to recreate the same feeling for myself to ignite something within me. Thus, the four
instruments that I have acquired over time, but haunts me from being left untouched for a prolonged
time.
Around the age of seven, my family and I went to the mall that included a music store. I would roam
all around the store to experiment with almost every instruments that were put on display. This led
to the first instrument that I got, which was an electric guitar. I would continually beg my mother for
it, promising that I will be the most exceptional child ever. Now I don't fully recall as to why I had a
desire for an electric guitar, but I do remember there was a time in my life that my brothers and I
wanted to form a band. Which was a ridiculous idea because neither of us knew how to play an
instrument or how to sing, so our "band" would have been a tremendous fiasco. I was ecstatic with

The Origin Of The Guitar
History of the Guitar There are many theories on the origin of the guitar. Varying types of stringed
instruments are noted in the history of Babylon, Egypt, and the Middle East, as well as in Italy,
Greece, Turkey, and the North East. All of their instruments had some sort of sound box and a long
neck. This is the same for the modern guitars of today. Strings or cords (usually made of animal
tissues) were stretched down the neck and over the sound box. Players used one hand to strum or
pluck the strings, and the other hand (fingers) to press down the strings at various points along the
neck which could produce a wide variety of notes and if the notes were played rapidly it will make a
combination of notes. Early guitar like instruments have been around for centuries. Some of the
earliest guitars appeared in Spain during the 1500 's, and their instruments share some basic
characteristics with modern guitars today. The earliest guitars were subject to considerable local
designs and different types of construction. By the late 1800 's guitars began to become more
standardized in construction and materials. Two of the earliest names for guitar like instruments
used in Spain and Italy are likely direct links with the modern guitar. The two names are Chitara,
and Ghiterra. Early Egyptian drawings show stringed instruments that resemble lyres or harps.
Ancient Rome was heavily influenced by Egyptian culture and so spread versions of these stringed
instruments around the Roman

The guitar is made up of three main parts the body, the neck, and the head. The body is the largest
part of the guitar, where the vibrations of the strings echo through the hollowed inside to produce
beautiful music. The neck is the portion of the guitar that stretches between the body and head and
this is where chords are played. The head of the guitar is at the end of the neck, where the tuners are
located on each side to keep the strings in tune. The guitar is divided into frets, the metal bars
running vertically down the neck, moving an octave higher every fret towards the base. Once you

The Modern Day Guitar : The Invention Of The Guitar
The guitar is one of the most iconic instruments of all time and understandably so, the instrument
has gone through many reinventions and has created endless possibilities in terms of new sounds.
The modern day guitar is the result of thousands of years in the making, the oldest known depiction
of a "guitar" dates back to the ninth century. However the guitar has not always had the iconic name,
before guitars had a standard to be held to, many guitar like instruments were referred to as
chordophones, a generalization for instruments with strings. Many people are under the impression
that the only 2 notable happenings in the world of the guitar, the invention of the acoustic and then
the electric. However these are simply the most recent happenings to the guitar, and there is far more
to the story of the legendary instrument.
Even though the first known depiction of the guitar dates back to the ninth century, the notable
beginnings start in spain, around the twelfth century. The very early development has been lost for
the most part, however it is clear that the lute and the oud played a large role in the birth of the
guitar as we know it. The lute is typically a fretted or unfretted instrument with a large round back,
the lute is also known for having a unique head which in most lutes is bend backwards at almost
ninety degrees. The oud is somewhat similar to the lute with a pear shaped body and a similar
slanted head. The oud typically has eleven or twelve strings and

decision to learn how to play guitar. The guitar has truly changed my life, as well as take all my
money. I have become obsessed with the instrument that has been one of the center pieces of music
history. From blues music in the early 1900s to pop music of today and everywhere in between the
guitar has influenced music almost as much as those singing it. I have been determined to learn as
much about the instrument as I can since I picked up in the 7th grade. I have gone from struggling to
play basic chords on a cheap acoustic guitar to being able to play some of the famous blues "licks"
and rock and roll hooks that have dominated music for so long. The guitar brings me a certain joy
that I very rarely feel when I am not playing. Hopefully one day I am able to hold my own with the
legendary guitarists that fill my spotify playlists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the past three years I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to play guitar in the youth
worship band at Double Oak Community Church. This has both challenged me and has been an
amazing outlet for the music that fills my head. I have grown both as a musician and spiritually from
this experience. Every time I step on stage in the small youth center I get the feeling that I am
helping someone else come closer to God, maybe for the first time. Leading worship is something I
would suggest to any guitarist if they are looking for a way to play somewhere outside of their

Physics of an Acoustic Guitar Essay
Physics of an Acoustic Guitar
I have been watching my husband play the guitar in a band for five years and he has made it look so
easy to make such beautiful music. Most guitar players have progressed with the technology of
electric guitars, but when my husband picks up an acoustic guitar and starts to play a song for just
me, I hear his love for me in the sounds that he produces. Imagine my surprise when a physics class
conveyed to me that there was much more to his playing than I had imagined.
The sound that a guitar makes is easily recognizable to many people because the physics of the
acoustic guitar is mostly universal. The noticeable distinctions are the result of various wavelengths
and the harmonics that are created by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An antinode is present at the furthest amplitude above the string and at the furthest amplitude below
the wave. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at
both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the
length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by "whole number multiples of the
fundamental wavelength."3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be
generated with nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and
have two nodes and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a
wavelength to the string.
The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies
from the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is
set up as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u § l .
Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz,
depending on the individual.
The various frequencies formed on a guitar are attributed to the difference in the strings on the
guitar. The strings, in order from the bottom to the top, are: E, B, G, D, A, and E. Their fundamental
frequencies are listed respectively as: 329.6Hz, 246.9Hz, 196Hz, 146.8Hz, 110Hz, and

Essay About The Effectiveness Of The Takamine Guitar...

  • 1. Essay about The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar... The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar Advertisement The Takamine guitar advert can be viewed as an effective piece of media in an array of different ways. The ways used play on a very unconventional style, which is not often used for a musical instrument. For example most guitar advertisements would use such images as a lead guitarist of a band standing tall whilst making his guitar scream out whilst he is backed by a huge amp or some such and the other. The first thing that this advertising piece has you drawn to is its picture, although on first sight you can't actually see what it is trying to portray as it is a picture of a girl sitting and staring at a boy who is playing to her in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The background of the image is distorted and blurred so as to show exactly where you should be looking and so draws the attention to the couple and the guitar. Although, the guitar may be key to this picture but the headstock that holds the company brand name is off the view of the lens, this could have been a clever ploy as to make the viewer read on and find out what the brand is. It is always an awfully easy thing to sell a guitar over any other instrument as it is a very glamorous instrument (unlike a bass) and so the people used are also very young and attractive in themselves. This gives a sense of youth to the company and would make them much more appealing to a buyer, especially a first time buyer. Now onto the text: the text used in this piece is very peculiar indeed and for the most of it the idea of the guitar has shifted onto that of a partnering agency. Many of the words used such as "partner", "right for you" and "wonderful" cast up totally different thoughts from that of a guitar and this is where the adverts key selling point really delivers. It leads on in such a way that you must read on to understand what is actually going on in the advert and leaves you in complete shock at the end when they refer you to go to "Your local Takamine trader" to ... But after working on many guitars and building a few, I started to gain a respect for the relationship between wood and tone. The overall tone of a guitar can often times get overlooked. When deciding on your perfect guitar you need to consider every factor. Here, at Halo Custom guitars, we realize the importance of not only building quality guitars but also informing the customer on every aspect of a custom build. Tan in color with soft tight pores, Alder is visually ideal for solid colors or sunbursts. Often associated with the tone of a Fender, being the main body wood used by Fender since 1956. Basswood was popular around the 80's and favored among shredders for its ability to produce smooth sounds deprived of sharp edges. The light color and almost non–existent grain pattern make this wood great for solid colors or backing a figured top. It is stiff, lightweight, and very stable making it very popular among builders in the industry. Overall basswood is growly, with a warm tone and nice mids. Within the guitar industry there are two widely used types of Ash, there's Northern Ash and Swamp Ash, Swamp ash typically comes from the Southern Parts of America. Their root systems grow under water, ultimately lightening the wood and adding stiffness. Swamp Ash is highly resonate with a mid–range roar. Northern Ash is very heavy, hard and dense creating sustain and bright tones. Great when paired with a transparent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite being Milkman's friend, Guitar shows both the better and worse sides of Milkman, being a supporting character that is used to build up Milkman's character, such as the name Guitar suggests. All famous musicians don't just use a single guitar to write songs, they're normally paired up with other instruments, vocalists, or even another guitar. Guitars are made to support music, and even tho they can have their own solo, it's not the main attraction. MIlkman is the main attraction and Guitar is his influential sidekick. • 21. Acoustic Guitar Research Paper So you've decided you want to buy your first beginner acoustic guitar. It can be frustrating trying to figure out which one to buy. With this post I've tried to make the process a little easier by doing a lot of research for you. All the beginner guitars reviewed for this post are from manufactures that have a reputation for quality and have been around a long time. I would advise against buying the cheapest guitar you can find. Even though you're beginning to play the guitar you want a decent sound. You want a low action so it's easier to play and learn on. This was my first time listening to this type of music and it was pretty good. It showed me that there are more than a few types of music out there. The CD I chose was the 2013 Guitar Recital by Philip Hemmo. The tracks that where on it are Ciaconna, Introduction et Polonaise, Adagio, Caprice, Danza Mora, Julia Florida and Sevillana. My favorite song was Adagio which homage to J. S. Bach. It was calm and was played a perfect speed. It slowed down and sped up through the whole song. • 29. Playing Guitar Research Paper It may sound complicated, but with a little time and effort, playing guitar is actually a lot simpler than it sounds. Playing guitar, like many other instruments, has many different components. You need to be familiar with a guitar and its parts, and know how to properly hold it before playing. You also need to know how to really get a good sound out. To build off of your guitar skills, you first need to know chord shapes, strumming and picking patterns. Before you can really start to play guitar, you have to be familiar with the parts. There is two main parts of a guitar. The body and the neck. The body is the hollow base of the guitar with an opening for the sound to echo in. This is where the strings are played. The neck is an extension from the body, where the strings extend over the frets. This is where the chords are played. The frets of the guitar are the raised lines along the neck of the guitar. These are used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The right hang should rest on the top of the body of the guitar with the wrist and hand loosely above the opening of the body. You should hold your hand and wrist somewhat loose to make strumming easier. The rise in popularity of guitar bands and the phenomenal success of the Guitar Hero video game franchise has lead to more and more people picking up the guitar recently. Sales of guitars in the UK has hit an all time high in the past three years and as more and more people are starting to play, the guitar has surpassed the piano as the most widely learned instrument in schools. With all these people learning I thought I 'd pass on some tips from my 10 years of experience playing guitar and help point people in the right direction as they start learning their technique. In this article I 've listed some things that I feel are very important to playing well but are often overlooked by those just starting out. If you 're a seasoned player then there won 't be much here for you, but if you 're new to playing guitar then hopefully I can help out and perhaps shed some light on things you maybe hadn 't thought about before. Theory The one factor that has improved my guitar playing beyond any other was taking the time out to learn the basics of music theory. Once you manage to break out of the pentatonic scales so overly used by rock guitarists you 'll find that your song–writing and improvisation will come on in leaps and bounds. These include certain relationships between velocity, wavelength, and frequency and equations that describe the motion of a string fixed at both ends. How Pick–Ups Work: Electric guitar pick–ups work by employing "principles of magnetic induction." The pick–ups are composed of small electromagnets (magnets that are wrapped with a coil of wire, thus allowing an electric current to flow through them). Because of their close proximity to the strings, these magnets induce a north and south pole on the strings. When the string is played, it begins to oscillate, or move in a wave–like fashion. This affects the field surrounding the pick–up and causes a change in the magnetic field. These changes, or fluctuations in the magnetic field are transmitted through the wires connecting the pick–up(s) to the output jack and are thus relayed to the amplifier where they are sent to the speaker and converted from electrical energy once again into motion energy (sound). (Brain, n.p.) Electromagnets can turn electrical energy into motion. Likewise the converse is true: they can turn motion into electrical energy. Such is the case with electric guitar pick–ups.

The achieved the feat of phasing out the lute, even if it was only temporarily, but soon its popularity started to decline giving way for the five course guitar. 16th century players and theorists believed that the four course guitar had much musical limitations. The instrument underwent series of alterations to lessen these limitations transforming it to the five course guitar. The first change was the addition of the fifth course and tuned lower than the fourth course. Also the body of the guitar was enlarged to accommodate a longer string from 55.5 cm to 63 cm, nearly that of a modern guitar. Its form retained for the following 200 years. Although the five course guitar remained popular throughout most of Europe, one instrument specifically renowned in Spain and Italy greatly influenced the development of the guitar. The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together, the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. The tuning peg is then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis and problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other devices out there such as Tropical Tune's Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our design has proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual hardware, in this case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. After the Guittern, the guitar's structure stayed the same and had little changes. One of the slightly improved guitars was called the Ghitarra Battente. The Ghitarra Battente was the first guitarlike instrument to use a saddle, a movable bridge, and led the trend towards metal frets (4). The Ghitarra Battente helped the popularity of the guitar grow tremendously. This instrument somewhat slowed down the development and improvements to the guitar until the 1500s. In the 1500s, the Vinuhela de Mano was introduced to the world. The Vinuhela de Mano is the the largest guitar to date and set the size for the modern guitar. This instrument had several soundholes on the top of the guitar, was played using a pick, and used gut strings. The Vihuela de Mano resembles the modern twelve– stringed guitars. The first publication of music for the guitar was published in 1564 and was called "Tres Libros de Musica en Cifras para Vihuela." After the Vihuela de Mano, many forms of the guitar emerged that improved the structure of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 94. Guitar Meets the Piano It has been a long time since I have challenged myself to fulfill something out of my customary schedule. Bringing music closer into my life, would be something I would thank myself for in the future. I have been playing the guitar since I was twelve, and when I was younger my brother had taught me how to play the piano. However, I have had a piano sitting against a wall in my room, and it has now been four years since I have played it. So, for the past twenty one days, I have challenged myself to re–learn the piano. Throughout my process, I found many similarities and differences between learning how to play the guitar and learning how to play the piano. The first obstacle I encountered was trying to get access to the lessons. When I studied the guitar, I played by reading sheet music. It was difficult and it acquired a lot of my time, since I did not know where the notes were on the actual guitar. Then in high school, I took a guitar class and I was taught how to read tabs. Tabs are an easy way to play the guitar, and they are especially useful for beginners. Tabs can be simply described as a drawing of the guitar strings on paper. During that class, I was also driven watch some of my classmates, whom knew how to play, and learn from them. Learning to play the piano doesn't have as much variety. I had to either read sheet music or watch someone else play. The only access for me was YouTube, since there is no one close who can teach me. All I had to do was continuously ... • 98. The Introduction of the Electric Guitar According to the Smithsonian Institute, "electronic amplification is one of the most successful innovations brought around at the end of the 1930s." The 1920s had a rise in the popularity of dance music, and the recording industry was getting started. This was also the start of the Big Band Era (guitaristsource.com). Guitar makers started experimenting to develop a new, louder, guitar. Electrical amplification was developed by the radio industry in the 1920s (howstuffworks.com). In 1931, George Beauchamp and Adolf Rickenbacker would go on to develop an electromagnetic pickup they would later use to create the electric guitar. This first model would go on to be called the "Frying Pan", because of its resemblance to the cookware. This first model was often played flat on the lap (howstuffworks.com). Eventually, electric guitars began commercial production in the 1930s (Goertzen 435). In 1939, Les Paul, an acoustic guitarist, developed a new type of electric guitar by placing the old pickup on a solid block of wood. This new solid body guitar didn't have the feedback problems that the hollow–bodied electric guitars had. Also, it had a greater sustain than earlier models (howstuffworks.com). In order for an electric guitar to work, it needs a pickup and an amplifier. Pickups are electro–magnetic pieces on the guitar's body, and they are usually found on the guitar's body in between the bridge and the fretboard. These electro–magnets create magnetic fields, which then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It originated in Persia and reached Spain during the twelth–century, where it¹s versatility as both a solo and accompanying instrument were established. The theory of the guitar was discovered in the early centuries. They found that the sound of a bowstring could be enhanced by attaching a resonating chamber –most like a tortiseshell– to the bow. From the bow came essentially three main types of stringed instruments: the Harp family, which was the sound of plucked strings indirectly transmitted to an attached sound box. The second was the Lyre family, which was strings of a fixed pitch are attached to the directly to a sound chamber. And the third was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first half of the 19th century was a time of great experimentation for the guitar. And many of the innovations that were credited to 20th century makers were actually tried a century earlier. Some of them included: The peghead with all six tuners on one side and scroll shape at the top, which is now common of the fender guitars was tried in the 1800¹s by Staufer. Gibson came out with the raised 4 fingerboard in 1922. Actually it was done exactly 100 years earlier by Staufer and Ertel. In 1988 Fender introduced a scalloped fingerboard on one of it¹s models. Again this had been done in the first half of the 1800¹s. Artist endorsement models like the Les Paul, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Chet Atkins model¹s, which were of huge success had already been thought of and done like the Luigi Legnani model by Staufer in 1820. In the early 20th century guitars began to develop into what we know today. In 1903 the first Gibson catalog assured that instruments would be made of woods with the most durable, elastic and sonorous qualities such as maple, mahogany, vermilion, and suitable woods. They settled on maple but only the high–end mandolins were made of maple. It wasn¹t until the mid–to–late1920¹s, when they finally began to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Electric Guitar Research Paper With the increased pressure to "go electric," many artists who played the guitar at the height of the Rock n Roll movement switched their acoustic instruments to electric versions. Unlike bass guitars, which can often be converted into electric basses, a purely electric guitar will not produce melodic sounds without the help of an amplifier which carries the tune produced through an electronic current. Electric guitars also allow the player to partially manipulate the sound coming to the amplifier through equalizing, distorting, and other methods. If you want to teach yourself the electric guitar, you are going to first have to choose which type you want to play. Many versions exist and it is up to you to decide which one fits your style or how much dedication you really want to put into your practice. However, not everyone wants to invest the time (and money) to learn an instrument. If you don't play an instrument, fear not, for there is hope still. Here are the three instruments, that, in my opinion, are the easiest to pick up and play with little or no instruction. (Be warned, however, as there is a massive difference between playing a little tune, and being truly good at an instrument. No instrument is easy to master.) Going from in order of increasing ease, first off is the bass guitar. Now, in no way is the bass guitar "easy" to be good at. However, when compared to similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next simplest instrument is the piano. Now, the piano can be quite tricky. There are so many keys, it can be quite confusing. Also, the piano allows for the most complex chords of any instrument. However, to play a simple melody, it is straightforward enough. On a piano, there are black keys and white keys. On a regular piano, each key is a different note, one half–step apart from the next, just like each fret on a bass or guitar. However, there is only one row of notes, unlike the aforementioned bass or guitar, which (usually) has four and six rows respectively, because of the different strings. The white keys on a piano are called "natural notes". Notes like A, E, and G are natural notes. The keys are the sharps and flats. Notes like A# are what sounds when a black key is pressed. Now, there are a few key (no pun intended) elements to playing piano if you have no idea what you are doing. The first is only play one note at a time. The piano is capable of create some quite beautiful and interesting chords if played correctly. But if you go and start combining notes together at random, it makes for an unpleasant noise most of the time. If you play only one note at a time, you only have to deal with the intervals (spaces between notes) that each note makes when used in succession with another, rather than the intervals that are required to make lovely chords. • 135. The Origin Of The Guitar History of the Guitar There are many theories on the origin of the guitar. Varying types of stringed instruments are noted in the history of Babylon, Egypt, and the Middle East, as well as in Italy, Greece, Turkey, and the North East. All of their instruments had some sort of sound box and a long neck. This is the same for the modern guitars of today. Strings or cords (usually made of animal tissues) were stretched down the neck and over the sound box. Players used one hand to strum or pluck the strings, and the other hand (fingers) to press down the strings at various points along the neck which could produce a wide variety of notes and if the notes were played rapidly it will make a combination of notes. Early guitar like instruments have been around for centuries. Some of the earliest guitars appeared in Spain during the 1500 's, and their instruments share some basic characteristics with modern guitars today. The earliest guitars were subject to considerable local designs and different types of construction. By the late 1800 's guitars began to become more standardized in construction and materials. Two of the earliest names for guitar like instruments used in Spain and Italy are likely direct links with the modern guitar. The two names are Chitara, and Ghiterra. The Modern Day Guitar : The Invention Of The Guitar The guitar is one of the most iconic instruments of all time and understandably so, the instrument has gone through many reinventions and has created endless possibilities in terms of new sounds. The modern day guitar is the result of thousands of years in the making, the oldest known depiction of a "guitar" dates back to the ninth century. However the guitar has not always had the iconic name, before guitars had a standard to be held to, many guitar like instruments were referred to as chordophones, a generalization for instruments with strings. Many people are under the impression that the only 2 notable happenings in the world of the guitar, the invention of the acoustic and then the electric. However these are simply the most recent happenings to the guitar, and there is far more to the story of the legendary instrument. Even though the first known depiction of the guitar dates back to the ninth century, the notable beginnings start in spain, around the twelfth century. The very early development has been lost for the most part, however it is clear that the lute and the oud played a large role in the birth of the guitar as we know it. The lute is typically a fretted or unfretted instrument with a large round back, the lute is also known for having a unique head which in most lutes is bend backwards at almost ninety degrees. An antinode is present at the furthest amplitude above the string and at the furthest amplitude below the wave. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by "whole number multiples of the fundamental wavelength."3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be generated with nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and have two nodes and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a wavelength to the string. The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies from the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is set up as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u § l . Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, depending on the individual. The various frequencies formed on a guitar are attributed to the difference in the strings on the guitar. The strings, in order from the bottom to the top, are: E, B, G, D, A, and E.
