Research Paper On Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell Simon Cowell is one of the biggest names in the British Music industry today. He's
most well–known for his bitter personality, discovery of One Direction, and judging on various
talent reality shows. Cowell was born in London on October 7 in 1959. His father, Eric was a music
industry executive. Julie, his mother was a ballet dancer. In his early career, Cowell worked mainly
at EMI music publishing. Although he has produced many artists and television shows, most of
Cowell's success and recognition has come from judging on reality talent shows. Judges on TV
competitions play a big role in the show. Simon has judged on Pop Idol, American Idol, The X
Factor UK, Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor USA, and soon, America's Got Talent.

Rumors Essay
Neil Simon's farce, Rumors, gives readers an in–depth look at the lives of ten wealthy individuals
attending a dinner party. In an attempt to stay within the social crown, the characters start
unsubstantiated rumors about their friends in an attempt to make themselves look better. The hosts
of the party, Ken Gorman, and his wife Chris must cover up the fact that a friend of theirs, Charley
Brock, has been shot in the ear lobe. They do not know how he got shot, but they decide that he
must have tried to commit suicide, and thereby proceed to spread rumors about what they have
heard in an attempt to avoid a possible attempted suicide scandal. They first lie to Charley's personal

Lenny and Claire Ganz arrive at the party first. Coming straight from a car accident, the Ganz's ask
why Charley has not joined them for the party.
Ken Gorman explains that Charley has had a rough day and he decided to take a nap for a little
while. Lenny exclaims that he has not had a thing to eat since breakfast and wonders where Mai Li
the cook has put all of the food. Not wanting to explain that they have recently fired Mai Li, the
Gormans fabricate a story about her having to go back to Japan to visit her sick mother. Claire asks,
"But Mai Li is Chinese, isn't she?" The Gormans look at each other and then Chris
quickly says, "I know. Her mother was visiting Japan." As a result of this, they must ask
their friends to help them prepare dinner for their own party. They know that if they explain to the
Ganz's that they do not have enough money to keep her in service any longer, they will fall of out
favor with their friends.
For this reason, they find it necessary to fabricate stories to explain happenings in the house. As the
night progresses, they consistently dig themselves into a deeper hole of lies. The situation eventually
gets terrible when Ken tries to hide the gun so Charley can't find it to shoot himself again. On his
way to putting in the closet, Ken trips over Charley's slippers and discharges the gun

John Cage 's Theory Of Silence And Chance Operations
During the twentieth century, one composer in particular, John Cage, challenged the idea of music,
sound, and art. Because of a distinct style and the utilization of innovative mechanisms, Cage
proved to be one of the world's most original composers. He took music into a new direction
creating sounds and works that have never been performed before. Through his philosophy of
silence and chance operations, John Cage distinguished the difference between sound and music;
sounds possess the ability to stand independently while the creation of music depends on sounds and
their particular arrangement. On September 5, 1912, in Los Angeles, California, John Cage was
born. From the start, environments of "constant innovation, improvisation, and exploration" had
surrounded Cage, as his father was an inventor (Kozinn "John Cage"). Growing up, he studied and
learned how to play the piano. At the age of twelve, he had created his own weekly radio show in
which he would feature his own performances (Kozinn "John Cage"). After graduating from Los
Angeles High School, Cage began to study at Pomona College. Shortly after, he discontinued his
education at the institution, and saw the education he received as "a lack of original thinking"
("Music Is Everywhere: John Cage At 100"). This action first introduces how Cage lived life by his
own rules, and foreshadows how he would eventually bend the rules and traditions of music. In
1931, Cage began to study composition while under the

Cowell spent a few years working on this label then left by mutual agreement to attain other
ventures. He found success in the music industry over the next eight years when he worked for Lain
Burton at Fanfare records. Cowell helped build Fanfare into a successful pop music label when he
became partner. Although with much success, later in 1992 Public Company fell into financial
problems whom is Fanfare's parent company. BMG bought Fanfare's assets later that year, dragging
Simon Cowell into dept. About a year later he became an A%R consultant for BMG records. In
2002 he formed the great SyCo records, in which many contestants from The X Factor and
America's Got Talent are released on. In the upcoming years he signed on to be a judge on a few
seasons on many of the shows SyCo produces. On March 16, 2006, Cowell's next reality
competition show, American Inventor was on ABC. American Inventor had entrepreneurs from
across the U.S. present and compete their best inventions for a marketing prize of more than $1

Talent Shows Essay
The influence of talent shows on the music industry
In the recent years, talent shows have become some of the most lucrative and popular television
programmes all around the world. The charm of such contests is easy to fall for – wewatch average
people become stars virtually overnight and we root for them, often showing our support by
spending money on voting. While there are several kinds of talent shows, those most popular are
singing competitions, which aim to showcase talented singers and create viable musiccareers. While
those programmes thrive and enjoy immense popularity, they are also widelycriticised for the way in
which they impact the music business. In this essay I will try to presenthow talent shows affect the

JamesFoley, a music journalist, describes this influence as follows: "Does [
The X Factor
] impact on thesigning and release schedules of other labels? Of course it does. They will do
anything to avoid being up against JLS and Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis [all previous
The X Factor contestants], because they know they have automatic access to a promotions platform
that other labels don't have" (Addley, par. 10).To reiterate, talent contests have a great influence on
how the music industry operates andfrom the aforementioned effects, we can arrive to the
conclusion that their impact is mostlynegative. Though they provide the market with numerous
newcomers, few of those are able tocreate their own original image or sustain their careers for more
than a couple of months. While it ishard to dismiss the vast popularity that talent shows enjoy, it is
also important to remember that theymight be one of the many nails in the coffin of the present–day
music industry.Works cited:1. Addler, Esther. "Is The X Factor killing pop?".

Summary Of 'The Tale Of The Plowman'
Canterbury Tales The tale of the Plowman July 12th 1392 The Boiling sun casts a blanket of heat
over the mile long fields, a faint voice can be heard in the peaceful atmosphere the calling repeats
and a man wearing an tabard smock raises his head from the line of crops to attend to the noise he
picks up the bucket of bruised vegetables and travels towards the voice as he gets closer it gets
louder and more audible the man slightly drained from the sun and work responds to the voice "Yes
dear?" it was his wife Alice she was a hard working woman from another part of the country they
met in a church when she was on a family vacation to see her sick mother to her at the time the man
was just considered his local name "The Plowman" but this soon changed after meeting frequently at
the lords house. Simon asked Alice to a date and they've been together since 1385. The Plowman or
Simon as relatives call him is a hardworking man of god he loves church and giving whenever
possible his great "brother" Parson plays a big part in Simons life Parson is the only person he trusts
with personal information. Alice responds to Simon's exhausted tone by saying "Dinners ready

Relationships Between Western And Western Culture
Intertextual relationships between texts exist to influence a reader's perception and add layers of
depth to the texts' meanings resulting in a heightened experience and a more significant
comprehension of the texts' ideas. Detecting such intertextual relationships between two wildly
different texts; Walt Disney's 1994 animated musical epic, The Lion King, and Studio Gainax's 2007
animated mecha television series, Gurren Lagann, has enriched my understanding of the differences
between the texts' representation on the cultural issues of the bildungsroman genre (coming of age
story). Despite the inherent differences between the two texts, originating from different countries,
identifying the similarities, differences and changes in cultural ... Show more content on

Both the two texts follow the 'The Hero's Journey' story structure (also known as a monomyth),
featuring the distinct departure, initiation and return phases and many of the twelve steps associated,
thereby establishing an intertextual link. Both main characters embark on a journey, witness the
death of a significant role model, mature as they encounter various trials and triumph over their
enemies, transforming into adults throughout the process. The Lion King's story of Simba's rise to
succeed his father as king reflects western attitudes towards growing up and how maturing from a
child into an adult is perceived: meeting the expectations of family and society, and accepting the
responsibilities associated with adulthood. Unlike The Lion King where the film ends when the
protagonist, Simba, has matured into an adult, Gurren Lagann follows its protagonist, Simon,
throughout his entire life detailing phases of growth a person experiences. Following his story well
beyond having matured into an adult, the show proceeds beyond his first major victory and shows
his struggles against an unideal future. This continuation and expansion of the story beyond
adulthood represents the eastern cultural attitude towards growing up that suggests a person's growth
doesn't end at adulthood but

Freddie Mercury Research Papers
Meet the boys from London, England in the United Kingdom that are going to inspire you to let it
all out with their infectious sound! This band is, of course, Queen! The members of Queen are fiery
Freddie Mercury on lead vocals and piano, polite and masterful Brian May on lead guitar, hot–
headed ladies' man Roger Taylor on drums, and shy bass guitarist John Deacon. While not officially
formed, members Mercury, May, and Taylor had known each other for years while May and Taylor
were in the band Smile which became future band Queen after Mercury joined. A little known fact
was that before Freddie Mercury was even in a band and pranced around in with his well– known
flamboyant persona, he had been the roadie for May's old band, 1984, named after George Orwell's
novel (Blake, p. 33). After officially forming in 1970, Queen went in and out of bassists until they
found John Deacon who was the perfect addition as a quiet–mannered musician to balance a hot
tempered band of friends that fought constantly (Blake, p. 111). The members seemed like a strange

The Graduate and Plastics Essay example
The Graduate and Plastics
The Graduate is a 1967 film directed by Mike Nichols who won an Oscar for his direction. This hit
of the 60's focuses on the development and the maturing of the ultra–naïve college graduate
Benjamin Braddock. This movie is about "just one word...Plastics." Mr. McQuire sums up this entire
movie when he tells Ben that there is "a great future in plastics." In this film the relationships,
except the one between Ben and Elaine, are like plastic because they are not real, they are molded,
and they are artificial.
The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Robinson is shaky at best. There is no love in their marriage;
in fact, the only reason there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robinson is the only one who recognizes the falsehood of the marriage. When Mr. Robinson
confronts Ben he tells him that he and his wife "are getting a divorce soon." Mr. Robinson acts as
though the affair is the only reason for the divorce, which may be true in his mind. We never know
the thoughts of Mr. Robinson he might truly love Mrs. Robinson but we can never know for certain.
Mr. Robinson, like Ben, is naïve to the world around him. He is in his own artificially created
world, a world made of plastic, created by plastic relationships.
When Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson he enters a world of plastic. Like plastic, this world is
capable of being shaped into the desired world of the manipulator. The manipulator in this instance
is the decadent and sardonic Mrs. Robinson. She holds the cards because she knows how to play the
game. Ben is young, naïve, and inexperienced. Mrs. Robinson spots these characteristics and
uses them to get her way. When Ben questions their actions, she insults his masculinity by claiming
this is his "first time" which leads to their first sexual encounter. Mrs. Robinson knows how to
control him so that he does take part in this affair because at the moment all she wants is him. I don't
think that Ben has any idea what he is doing; it is almost as though he has nothing better to do than
to have an affair with Mrs.

American Idol Essay
American Idol
"That rendition was impressive, but you do not look like an American Idol; however, we will give
you one more chance. Welcome to Hollywood!" A person with a mediocre voice that is not
stunningly attractive would have a harder time advancing to Hollywood on American Idol. As the
judges say, an American Idol should be a distinct person with an exceptionally fantastic voice.
Culture is the training or refining of intellectual faculties and the way of life for a particular people.

There are tears and screams as contestants, one by one, get through to the next round. Along the way
to fame, the contestants on American Idol receive mean, nasty and often degrading criticisms from
the judges. Those who are not the most attractive seep through the auditions based on fantastic
singing and have a much harder time pursuing their hopefully destined career compared to a
naturally attractive singer. The drama that is stirred up during the auditions and throughout the show
is why people tend to watch.
Image is a big factor on American Idol because whoever wins the competition receives a million
dollar contract with a well–known recording producer. A record producer would not want a less than
celebrity caliber person representing his or her label because image is a huge factor in our society
and they know for a fact that someone not photogenic would not sell. They want someone who has
some unique aspect to their appearance or personality that would attract people to buy their album.
Since the recording producer works for Simon, it is partly his duty to make good decisions about
who he says goodbye to, and who he puts though to the final thirty. Perhaps this is why Simon is so
critical and mean to people, but that is what America loves about him. Since America loves first
impressions and style, they will base their favorites on typically what they see from the show.
Different people in our society will enjoy different things about different

The Sunflower By Simon Wiesenthal Essay
Vince Lombardi, an American football player, and a coach, once said, "Leaders aren't born, they are
made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work." With these words, Lombardi
highlights that people are nurtured to become a leader and a follower. For instance, Lombardi asserts
that a person is trained, whether to be a leader, or a follower, through eagerness and determination.
The book, The Sunflower, written by Simon Wiesenthal, an author and a Jewish holocaust survivor,
who focuses on one of the most controversial topics during and after World War II, forgiveness. In
this book, Weisenthal talked about a questionable case in which Karl, an SS soldier who murdered
plentiful of people, asked Weisenthal for forgiveness for all the pain he had done towards all the
people that were affected by him. When it comes to the topic of whether people are born to become
leaders or followers or is one trained by the environment, most people will readily agree that people
are conditioned to become a leader or a follower, where this agreement usually ends, however, is on
the question of, "What makes a person a leader?" Whereas some are convinced that people are
natural born leaders. Becoming a leader consists with a few reasons such as developed leadership
skills, the bystander apathy, and the diffusion of responsibility.
Leadership is a honorary degree that contains many practices to which can truly affect his/her

Fifth Harmony Research Paper
It's been three years since the girl group from X–Factor stepped off the stage in third place with
plans to release an album and take the world by storm. While the girls made some noise with a few
singles ("Miss Movin' On", "Boss", "Sledgehammer"), an EP (Better Together), opening for some
big names (Cher Lloyd, Demi Lovato, Austin Mahone), and a couple headlining tours, their loyal
fan base (called Harmonizers) saw bigger things for the group. Even though talent reality shows are
supposed to prepare you for mainstream success and it's expected that an album and tour will
happen as soon as the show is over, sometimes it's good that an artist gets time to develop their
sound. Even though Fifth Harmony has five very talented singers (Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane,
Camila Cabello, Normani Kordei, Ally Hernandez), their family–friendly pop tunes they started
with wouldn't get them to the level of some of their girl group competition (Little Mix, HAIM) and

Simon Bolivar has been considered by many historians as the liberator of the Americas, he lead an
army that liberated Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia from the Spanish rule. Bolivar
dreamed in having these countries unified as one big country called "The Gran Colombia". These
countries would have shared a centralized government and would have had the city of Bogota as its
capital.
In this article I want to explore the reasons why he could not achieve this dream of unifying these
countries and if he had what economic and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With magnanimous sincerity, San Martin offered to place himself and his soldiers under Bolivar's
command if he would send the full Colombian army to drive the Spanish out of Peru. Unfortunately
for the patriot cause, Bolivar apparently regarded San Martin as a rival and an antagonist rather than
as a comrade–in–arms, an obstacle to be removed before his own fame and glory were compromised
by sharing them with another. Bolivar refused the incredibly selfless offer, saying that his "delicacy
would not allow him to command San Martin," and that "the Colombian Congress would not permit
him to leave Colombia to pursue the war in Peru." San Martin also indicated in an interview that he
"San Martin, a keen reader of men, immediately perceived the arrogance and raw ambition that lay
behind the mask of courtly civility and empty excuses. Years later, in 1840, while living in voluntary
exile in France, the general confided his candid assessment of Bolivar's character to a visitor,
Captain Lafond de Lurcy of the French navy:
At first sight his personal appearance prejudiced me against him. He appeared to have much pride,

A Very Brief Timeline of One Direction
In 2010, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson auditioned as
solo candidates for the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor.[4]
They failed to progress to the "Boys" category at "judges' houses" but were put together to form a
five–piece boy band at Wembley Arena, in London, England, in July 2010, during the "bootcamp"
stage of the competition,[5] thus qualifying for the "Groups" category. Nicole Scherzinger, a guest
judge,[4][6][7] and Simon Cowell have both claimed to have come up with the idea of forming the
band. In 2013, Cowell said that it "took him 10 minutes to put them together as a group".[8]
Subsequently, the group got together for two weeks to get to know each other and to practise.[9][10]
Styles came up with the name One Direction.[9] For their qualifying song at "judges' houses", and
their first song as a group, One Direction sang an acoustic version of "Torn".[11] Cowell later
commented that their performance convinced him that they "were confident, fun, like a gang of
friends, and kind of fearless as well."[12] Within the first four weeks of the live shows, they were
his last act in the competition.[13] The group quickly gained popularity in the UK.[12]
One Direction finished in third place and immediately after the final, their song "Forever Young",
which would have been released if they had won The X Factor, was leaked onto the internet.[14]
Shortly afterwards it was confirmed that One

Simon Cowell said that Zayn Malik's previous comments about why he left the band were "rude."
The music mogul, who mentored One Direction while they were on the X Factor has spoken with
The Mirror and reckoned that Malik's comments were "rude." Cowell also claimed that in due
course Zayn would rethink his opinion.
"I think once he has had a chance to reflect on everything he will probably reconsider what he's said
because it was a very, very democratic process in the band," Simon said. Adding, "It is a bit rude to
the people who wrote all the hits with them. And to the other band members. I mean they all wrote a
lot of the stuff."
Cowell then said he hasn't thought about the former 1D's departure since he left the band earlier this
year. And to add more cut with the injury, Simon said that since Malik left his bandmates, he wants
to make the boys understand that they could still continue with their success even without Zayn and
"they did," he added. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Biography of Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar was born July 24th, 1783 in Caracas, Venezuela. His family consisted of a slew of
wealthy Creoles, or those born in America but of European decent. However, early on in his life he
was faced with tragedy when first, his father died when he was three and then his mother soon
followed as he neared the age of only six. Although his parents' deaths seemed untimely and tragic
but, because of the wealth of the family, Bolivar had great access to two very important tutors who
would mold his later ideals of independence.
First was Andres Bello, who taught Bolivar about science and exposed him to Enlightenment ideas.
Next was Simon Rodriguez, a devote follower of Jean–Jacques Rousseau, a philosopher who greatly

He went on to achieve rank as Colonel, then aided Miranda in the raid of Valencia in 1811. Soon
after this achievement he published his first book, Memorial to the Citizens of Nueva Granada by a

Next, leading a small army, he cleared the Magdalena River of enemies, then in February of 1813,
he took the Villa de Cucuta and the liberation of Venezuela began in May. However, in May of 1815,
Bolivar resigned his command to prevent the outbreak of a civil war due to the authority change and
political struggles in Caracas.
While in Carupano, Bolivar issued a decree of freedom to grant all slaves liberty. Then in 1817,
Bolivar returned to Europe where he created the State Council, the Government Council, the
Superior War Council, the High Court of Justice, the Trade Council, and created a newspaper. On
August 5th, Bolivar moved again to Angostura where he set up the Second Venezuelan Congress
and made a famous speech that outlined all his political beliefs. As well as a thought out speech, he
presented a written draft of the Constitution. Next, Bolivar made plans to liberate Nueva Granada.
His army fought a violent battle in Pantano de Vargas and Gameza where he then won the battle on
the Boyaca. When Bolivar returned to Angostura days later, Congress issued the Fundamental Law
of the Colombian Republic in December 1819. This created "The Great State" which encompassed

Integrity and Success
What is the line between cheating and just "helping out?" Is there a hierarchy of honesty which
places people into categories based on the extent of their cheating? Whether or not there are
different "levels" of dishonesty, people often sacrifice their integrity in order to succeed. However, is
this always the best method of getting ahead in life? While it may be easier to excel in the
professional world by cheating, Tom Hanks, Simon Cowell, and Malala Yousafzai have proven that
success can come from being honest, and that one does not have to sacrifice his integrity to achieve.
Actors and celebrities may enjoy the spotlight constantly surrounding them, but their massive fame
and success never come without a backstory of hard work and dedication. While sometimes, fame
comes easier by cheating, being dishonest, and using unfair advantages to get ahead, there are some
celebrities whose brutal honesty and integrity have helped them gain fame and respect from their
followers. One prime example would be actor Tom Hanks, whose success in movies cannot be
understated. Hanks was ranked number one on the Forbes' E–Score list of most trustworthy

Watching A Disappearing Number in Theater Essay examples
Choose one production that you have seen and which you particularly enjoyed and discuss the
aspects which made it so successful.
A Disappearing Number
I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed by Complicite
and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that the mixture
of maths and romance as well as the structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the
present together, was extremely successful.
The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the
rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to stoop beneath it in order to
enter and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology, including sound
effects, projections, pod casts and voice overs. The scene which stood out most for me, concerning
technology would be the scene where Al is trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he begins to look
through Ruth?s belongings of books, papers and passports. While he is doing this, actions too small
to be seen from the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto the whiteboard behind to
show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page from a book which has been
marked down and as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the same words, quietly at first and
as that gradually builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over
reading out the words from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the
performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his
own book.
We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first
but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical
terminology I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried on throughout the whole
performance, making it, from my point of view, the strongest link from the present to the past, as
Ruth was wanting to follow in the footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy.
One of the scenes which had the

called Made in The A.M., that was good, but not the same without Zayn. In January, He released his
first single as a solo artist it was called Pillowtalk which was a hit, then he dropped his album in
March called Mind of Mine. The remainder of the group decided to take a "break" and do solo
things in their life now. "Many months after Zayn had scored a chart–topper with
"Pillowtalk," Irish singer Niall Horan became the second 1D vocalist to reach the highest region as a
solo man. His first cut under his own name, the One Direction–soundalike "This Town," made it all
the way to No. 9 in the U.K., while it peaked slightly higher in his home country, stalling at No. 6.
Recent follow–up single "Slow Hands," which sees the singer going in a sexier direction, has yet to
grow to its full potential." (McIntyre) At the end of 2016 Louis released his first single and
dedicated it to the passing of his mother on the finale of Xfactor.

One Direction: A Victim Of Stereotypes
What are you listening to? One Direction? What are you, 12?
I can't even begin to tell you how many times people have given me judgemental expressions when
they found out that I like the band One Direction. Being in a fandom which is dominated by younger
female fans does bring a lot of judgement upon oneself. If you don't know what I'm talking about,
One Direction fans have been deemed by society 'desperate hormonal teenage girls without a good
taste in music'.
Yes, the band does have a huge following of young females. Yes, most of the fans are between the
ages of 12–16. Yes, some fans have done comparatively crazy things in order to get closer to the
band ... However does anyone realise that the whole fandom is not made up of these young
daredevils?

Most grow out of it, some sooner than others. We should be allowed to like and support something
that brings us happiness without being judged or labelled because of it!
That was the story of how I was a victim of stereotyping, but I would also like to elaborate on
another stereotype, one that withers my faith in humanity bit by bit: that people with a fairly high
amount of tattoos or piercings are labelled uneducated and unprofessional.
Before anything let me just ask you how a person's choice of getting a tattoo or a piercing affects
their level of intelligence? Majority consider that having a tattoo basically proves bad judgement
and a low intelligence level. I for one have never heard the fact that getting tattoos or piercings
magically hinders a person's learning capability!
Opportunities should not be hindered just because they have inked themselves. Many CEO's of
successful businesses nowadays have tattoos, some professors have inked themselves; even with
tattoos these people have excelled in their field of

The only thing that disturbed me in my opinion was the latter half of the movie, where it goes
through an enormous time skip and tries to take itself seriously, which in my opinion changed the
pacing drastically. The latter half also takes place after the death of the Spiral King and explains
what's going on in the world such as: politics, government and etc. It didn't suit the type of mentality
this show was providing and just gave me a "what happened?" type of vibe. This really dragged
down the movie until later in the film it decides to ditch the serious act and start blowing stuff up
again. In doing so they've created the most astounding climaxes in animation in my opinion. I would
really love to say that this movie was perfect from start to finish but the time skip and the show
decided to take itself seriously dragged on and was unnecessary. What I like about the characters in
Gurren Lagann were the characters how they were portrayed and developed. Though they do fill in
the standard anime tropes you see today, but what separates them from the stereotype is that they
actually have a lot of character development. Our main protagonist, Simon suits this quite well; he's
a weak, shy, and not someone who'd you typically root for to lead the fight. By the end however he's
become more mature, brave, and an overall great leader. Kamina, the epitome of manliness, plays

Taking a Look at Experimental Music
Experimental music is a term that refers to the music in the twentieth century that experiment with
components of music and creating new avenues for the composition of music. In the later part of the
essay, more shall be discuss on the area of experimenting sound and technique. Stylistic features of
each piece such as harmony, texture, timbre, form etc, will be presented alongside with the examples
of music to allow a better understanding towards experimental music.
Charles Ives is an American composer which could be called as one of the founders of experimental
music as he was one of the earliest composers to look in to this avenue. His inspiration for
experimental music was from his father whom teaches him theory and composition. He encourages
Ives to go on the route of experimenting with sounds. Ives explored new techniques regarding
harmony, rhythm and form. Innovations could be seen throughout his composing career but at the
same time, he preserves some of the traditional rules. In his early stage of composing, he wrote
several polytonal pieces which means the use two or more keys in different layers in his music. Ex.
Varations on America. Several new techniques that has been tried out by Ives includes the system of
using all possible chords from a single tonic note creating chords from intervals 2nd, 3rd 4th and so
on. Below is the example taken from Processional. Another of the new technique is the use of
rhythmic layers. Ex. Scherzo: All the way around and back.

presented to him. Konnor begins to stack up the Lego blocks separately according to the color; all
the blue blocks were stacked neatly in a separate stack, as well as the red blocks and so on. Konnor
shows maturation and according to Berger, maturation of the prefrontal cortex can be identified
through observing children play certain games such as Simon Says, and "the color game," which
was found that children were able to sort the cards out by their color. (234) Konnor shows
maturation because he was able to unstack the uncoordinated colored blocks to color coordinate
them, unlike a few children surrounding him who profusely stacked the blocks, regardless of the
color order. At 3 years and 8 months old, Konnor is within the norm for this development since it
appears at 3 years old (Berger, 234). Konnor picks up a tree branch that has fallen beside a tree, he
stares at it and looks up at the tree and back at the branch. With the branch still gripped firmly in his
hand, Konnor begins to lift his body to wrap his arms and legs around the tree. Hugging the tree
with his body, Konnor begins to ease his way up the tree by pushing his legs up first to scoot the
lower half of his body up, and then lifting his arms up further to scoot up his upper body as well.

2.3 Cluster Concept of Játékok Zongorára
The following discuss the related literature of György Kurtág, his Játékok Zongorára, and the
adapted cluster concept into other traditional teaching material.
2.3.1 Biography of György Kurtág
Játékok Zongorára is composed by György Kurtág, one of the most prominent Hungarian avant–
garde composer and pianist. Kurtág was born in "Lugoj, Romania in 1926" (Kennedy, Kennedy, &
Rutherford–Johnson, 2013, p. 471). He had witnessed the era of World War II (1939–1945), "lived
through Hungary's communist regime (1949–1989)" (Coelho, 2014, p. 1), and currently living in his
nineties. He was a "tutor at Bartok's music school" and Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary during
1958–1963, and a "coach of National ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Játékok Zongorára is well–known with its distinctive characteristics in terms of pedagogy approach,
structure of composition, and the purpose of each movement. The value of play is attached
important by Kurtág in this composition series as it involves the use of body as a whole approach to
play the piano (Junttu, 2008). In addition, many of the extended piano technique such as "glissandi"
and different types of clusters are introduced in a daring way through his pieces in Játékok
Zongorára as a "holistic" modern piano pedagogy approach (Loffredo, 2009, p. 8). For the structure
of composition, it could be three types in overall: original miniature pieces, original normal pieces,
reduction of past pieces from other composers. The idea of homage in writing a music composition
and the idea of keeping the impact of traditional notation in the contemporary piano technique are
remarkable (Johnson, 2002; Loffredo, 2009)
2.3.3 Three Types of Tone Clusters
According to Barelos (n.d.), the term of "tone clusters" can be defined as "large, dissonant chords"
or "can be as small as two adjacent keys played at the same time". The concept of the tone cluster as
one of the extended piano technique was invented by Henry Cowell (Barelos, n.d.; Kase, n.d.; Kase;
2001). It is said that this idea was inspired by a pianist named Leo Ornstein (1892–2002) who was

Simon Cowell Research Paper
Simon Cowell, a very successful man who grew up in London and has moved here to the United
States. He has developed 3 different hit TV shows. 1 airing in the U.K, and 2 airing in the United
States. Cowell is still a very successful man today, even though 1 of his shows have been canceled.
But how? How is Simon still such a successful? Simon Cowell was born October 7th, 1959 in
London, England. Cowell's father Eric Philip Cowell was an estate agent and a music executive. His
mother Julie Brett was a stay at home mother and a Ballet dancer. Julie loved to stay home with her
6 children. Cowell being the 4 child of the 6. Cowell had 4 brother and a sister, making him the
second oldest of them all. Cowell attended Radlett Prepatory school, but hated ... Show more

That was quite a failure. This company impacted the U.K., by giving them a good show to entertain
them, and many loved it through the 2 seasons it lasted. In the year 2002, Cowell created yet another
show called American Idol. This show would air in the United States, and have the same rules as
Pop Idol. The show would hold auditions for people who believed they had a talent in singing. There
were 3 judges, Cowell being one. Then, the people who were at home watching, would send in their
vote, and that would decide who won the show. The only difference was that, the overall winner
would get 1,000,000 dollars toward a record deal, instead of only having one option, like pop idol.
Also, the finalist who did not win, would also get a record deal, but this was only for the runner up.
American has been around for 14 years, and still going strong. The net worth of the company at the
start of the show is unknown, but it is said that, American Idol made $836 million dollars just in ad
revenues in the year 2014. The 2 biggest sponsors of the show are coke–a–cola and Ford, which
bring in $10 million dollars each season. A big challenge that the show faced was the loss of Simon

Technology and the American Dream
Technology and The American Dream
The idea that no matter where you start in life you have opportunity to work hard and gain
prosperity and success, is also known as the American Dream. Which nowadays seems to be an
almost dying if not already totally dead concept. Something seen only in fairy tales and movies and
not really so much in real life. In these days and times it seems as though it does not matter how
hard you work, but rather the people you know, that decide whether you will have the opportunity to
be successful or not. But if you are just an everyday person how exactly are you supposed to go
about making those connections with people that really matter? The ones that can really help you? It
almost seems like if you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His dream finally began to come together in 2009 when his videos captured the interest of a
manager who then contacted him and helped him in the process of meeting the right people. He met
with Usher who took him to meet L.A. Reid and then got him signed to Island Def Jam Recordings.
He then released his first album, and went platinum just two months later. Using technology Justin
was able to broadcast his talent to the world, get discovered, and to create a fanbase. These things
were eventually the foundations for his fame. To this day his original fans continue to be his biggest
supporters and they help to keep him successful. Not only was he blessed in his rise to fame, but the
speed in which he achieved it all is remarkable as well.
Without the Internet and technology his probability of ever getting the chance to meet any of those
big name record labels would have been next to zero and his fanbase would probably have never
have achieved the size that it is now.
Perhaps an even greater example of technology's influence on the music industry is told with the
story of the british boyband One Direction. They were first introduced to the world when they
appeared as individual contestants on the U.K.'s The X Factor, but as individual contestants they
didn't make it very far in the competition. Their first lucky break from even being

Carry On By Rainbow Rowell After The Success Of Her Book
Carry On was written by Rainbow Rowell after the success of her book Fangirl –– a novel in which
the main character, Cath, in a fanfiction writer for Simon Snow (the character by which this book
was based on) –– this book is about the fanfiction that Cath was writing throughout the whole story
that would later only be finished by some means of writing therapy. This book central theme is of
sacrifice. Each character must sacrifice something within them to boost the plot and find the
resolution. For example, Louise has to sacrifice her life to save Simon and Simon has to sacrifice his
own magical abilities in order to save the mage world. The setting of this book is Simon's school,
Watford, and the grounds around it. The whole school includes sleeping quarters for boys and girls
separate, a chapel, a football pitch (soccer in America), and a Great Lawn which is all watched over
by a very high wall and moat. The school is extremely safe but before the book takes place lots of
creatures are sent to the school by the book's main villain, the Humdrum. The Humdrum has been
tormenting Simon since he first got to the school and the Mage even asks Simon if he wants to be
tutored somewhere far away to hide. Simon refuses this offer, not wanting the school –– which he
always looked forward to attending –– to be taken away from him by the Humdrum like so many
people were. The main character of this book is (obviously) Simon, an orphan who is the most
powerful mage in

Personal Narrative: One Direction
"You can think of hinge joints as doors," my Anatomy and Physiology teacher explained, "They
move in one direction." As if on cue, every single eye in the classroom was trained on me.
Throughout my four years of high school, dating even farther back to the dreadful years of middle
school, the phrase "One Direction" was practically synonymous with my own name. Everyone knew
that was the group I loved, and there was little I could do to change it; reputations stick. One
Direction has been a colossal part of my life ever since 2012, and I have grown immensely as a
person because of them. During the first three years of being a fan, I learned about passion. The
lyrics intuitively stuck in my head, and their journeys naturally became a part of ... Show more

As soon as the second anniversary of Zayn leaving came around, I quietly took down posters,
deleted albums, and unfollowed accounts. One of the greatest mistakes I made that year was taking a
huge part of my life out of the picture, simply because I wanted my opinions to mirror the rest of the
world's. Whenever a teacher would mention the words "One Direction" in class, people would cease
their glances at me. My previously impeccable lyric recollection was starting to diminish. I
continued through junior year with a fervent attitude, convinced that they had been an impediment
to my overall ability to do well in school. It's true that my junior year was one of the best times for
my academic career, but what you won't find on my transcript was the desolation I felt inside.
Seeing 100's on my tests never brought me as much joy as listening to their music. Getting honors
and recognition never seemed to give me as much of a rush as attending concerts did. I tried
rewiring my One–Direction obsessed brain in an effort to reconstruct who I was. It didn't

  • 9. John Cage 's Theory Of Silence And Chance Operations During the twentieth century, one composer in particular, John Cage, challenged the idea of music, sound, and art. Because of a distinct style and the utilization of innovative mechanisms, Cage proved to be one of the world's most original composers. He took music into a new direction creating sounds and works that have never been performed before. Through his philosophy of silence and chance operations, John Cage distinguished the difference between sound and music; sounds possess the ability to stand independently while the creation of music depends on sounds and their particular arrangement. On September 5, 1912, in Los Angeles, California, John Cage was born. From the start, environments of "constant innovation, improvisation, and exploration" had surrounded Cage, as his father was an inventor (Kozinn "John Cage"). Growing up, he studied and learned how to play the piano. At the age of twelve, he had created his own weekly radio show in which he would feature his own performances (Kozinn "John Cage"). After graduating from Los Angeles High School, Cage began to study at Pomona College. Shortly after, he discontinued his education at the institution, and saw the education he received as "a lack of original thinking" ("Music Is Everywhere: John Cage At 100"). This action first introduces how Cage lived life by his own rules, and foreshadows how he would eventually bend the rules and traditions of music. In 1931, Cage began to study composition while under the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Talent Shows Essay The influence of talent shows on the music industry In the recent years, talent shows have become some of the most lucrative and popular television programmes all around the world. The charm of such contests is easy to fall for – wewatch average people become stars virtually overnight and we root for them, often showing our support by spending money on voting. While there are several kinds of talent shows, those most popular are singing competitions, which aim to showcase talented singers and create viable musiccareers. While those programmes thrive and enjoy immense popularity, they are also widelycriticised for the way in which they impact the music business. JamesFoley, a music journalist, describes this influence as follows: "Does [ The X Factor ] impact on thesigning and release schedules of other labels? Of course it does. They will do anything to avoid being up against JLS and Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis [all previous The X Factor contestants], because they know they have automatic access to a promotions platform that other labels don't have" (Addley, par. 10).To reiterate, talent contests have a great influence on how the music industry operates andfrom the aforementioned effects, we can arrive to the conclusion that their impact is mostlynegative. Though they provide the market with numerous newcomers, few of those are able tocreate their own original image or sustain their careers for more than a couple of months. While it ishard to dismiss the vast popularity that talent shows enjoy, it is also important to remember that theymight be one of the many nails in the coffin of the present–day music industry.Works cited:1. Relationships Between Western And Western Culture Intertextual relationships between texts exist to influence a reader's perception and add layers of depth to the texts' meanings resulting in a heightened experience and a more significant comprehension of the texts' ideas. Detecting such intertextual relationships between two wildly different texts; Walt Disney's 1994 animated musical epic, The Lion King, and Studio Gainax's 2007 animated mecha television series, Gurren Lagann, has enriched my understanding of the differences between the texts' representation on the cultural issues of the bildungsroman genre (coming of age story). Despite the inherent differences between the two texts, originating from different countries, identifying the similarities, differences and changes in cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the two texts follow the 'The Hero's Journey' story structure (also known as a monomyth), featuring the distinct departure, initiation and return phases and many of the twelve steps associated, thereby establishing an intertextual link. Both main characters embark on a journey, witness the death of a significant role model, mature as they encounter various trials and triumph over their enemies, transforming into adults throughout the process. The Lion King's story of Simba's rise to succeed his father as king reflects western attitudes towards growing up and how maturing from a child into an adult is perceived: meeting the expectations of family and society, and accepting the responsibilities associated with adulthood. Unlike The Lion King where the film ends when the protagonist, Simba, has matured into an adult, Gurren Lagann follows its protagonist, Simon, throughout his entire life detailing phases of growth a person experiences. Following his story well beyond having matured into an adult, the show proceeds beyond his first major victory and shows his struggles against an unideal future. This continuation and expansion of the story beyond adulthood represents the eastern cultural attitude towards growing up that suggests a person's growth doesn't end at adulthood but ... This band is, of course, Queen! The members of Queen are fiery Freddie Mercury on lead vocals and piano, polite and masterful Brian May on lead guitar, hot– headed ladies' man Roger Taylor on drums, and shy bass guitarist John Deacon. While not officially formed, members Mercury, May, and Taylor had known each other for years while May and Taylor were in the band Smile which became future band Queen after Mercury joined. A little known fact was that before Freddie Mercury was even in a band and pranced around in with his well– known flamboyant persona, he had been the roadie for May's old band, 1984, named after George Orwell's novel (Blake, p. 33). After officially forming in 1970, Queen went in and out of bassists until they found John Deacon who was the perfect addition as a quiet–mannered musician to balance a hot tempered band of friends that fought constantly (Blake, p. 111). This hit of the 60's focuses on the development and the maturing of the ultra–naïve college graduate Benjamin Braddock. This movie is about "just one word...Plastics." Mr. McQuire sums up this entire movie when he tells Ben that there is "a great future in plastics." In this film the relationships, except the one between Ben and Elaine, are like plastic because they are not real, they are molded, and they are artificial. The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Robinson is shaky at best. There is no love in their marriage; in fact, the only reason there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robinson is the only one who recognizes the falsehood of the marriage. When Mr. Robinson confronts Ben he tells him that he and his wife "are getting a divorce soon." Mr. Robinson acts as though the affair is the only reason for the divorce, which may be true in his mind. We never know the thoughts of Mr. Robinson he might truly love Mrs. Robinson but we can never know for certain. Mr. Robinson, like Ben, is naïve to the world around him. He is in his own artificially created world, a world made of plastic, created by plastic relationships. When Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson he enters a world of plastic. Like plastic, this world is capable of being shaped into the desired world of the manipulator. The manipulator in this instance is the decadent and sardonic Mrs. Robinson. She holds the cards because she knows how to play the game. Ben is young, naïve, and inexperienced. Mrs. Robinson spots these characteristics and uses them to get her way. When Ben questions their actions, she insults his masculinity by claiming this is his "first time" which leads to their first sexual encounter. Mrs. Robinson knows how to control him so that he does take part in this affair because at the moment all she wants is him. I don't think that Ben has any idea what he is doing; it is almost as though he has nothing better to do than to have an affair with Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A person with a mediocre voice that is not stunningly attractive would have a harder time advancing to Hollywood on American Idol. As the judges say, an American Idol should be a distinct person with an exceptionally fantastic voice. Culture is the training or refining of intellectual faculties and the way of life for a particular people. There are tears and screams as contestants, one by one, get through to the next round. Along the way to fame, the contestants on American Idol receive mean, nasty and often degrading criticisms from the judges. Those who are not the most attractive seep through the auditions based on fantastic singing and have a much harder time pursuing their hopefully destined career compared to a naturally attractive singer. The drama that is stirred up during the auditions and throughout the show is why people tend to watch. Image is a big factor on American Idol because whoever wins the competition receives a million dollar contract with a well–known recording producer. A record producer would not want a less than celebrity caliber person representing his or her label because image is a huge factor in our society and they know for a fact that someone not photogenic would not sell. They want someone who has some unique aspect to their appearance or personality that would attract people to buy their album. Since the recording producer works for Simon, it is partly his duty to make good decisions about who he says goodbye to, and who he puts though to the final thirty. Perhaps this is why Simon is so critical and mean to people, but that is what America loves about him. Since America loves first impressions and style, they will base their favorites on typically what they see from the show. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work." With these words, Lombardi highlights that people are nurtured to become a leader and a follower. For instance, Lombardi asserts that a person is trained, whether to be a leader, or a follower, through eagerness and determination. The book, The Sunflower, written by Simon Wiesenthal, an author and a Jewish holocaust survivor, who focuses on one of the most controversial topics during and after World War II, forgiveness. When it comes to the topic of whether people are born to become leaders or followers or is one trained by the environment, most people will readily agree that people are conditioned to become a leader or a follower, where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of, "What makes a person a leader?" While the girls made some noise with a few singles ("Miss Movin' On", "Boss", "Sledgehammer"), an EP (Better Together), opening for some big names (Cher Lloyd, Demi Lovato, Austin Mahone), and a couple headlining tours, their loyal fan base (called Harmonizers) saw bigger things for the group. Even though talent reality shows are supposed to prepare you for mainstream success and it's expected that an album and tour will happen as soon as the show is over, sometimes it's good that an artist gets time to develop their sound. Even though Fifth Harmony has five very talented singers (Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane, Camila Cabello, Normani Kordei, Ally Hernandez), their family–friendly pop tunes they started with wouldn't get them to the level of some of their girl group competition (Little Mix, HAIM) and their supposedly male counterpart, One Direction. A Very Brief Timeline of One Direction In 2010, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson auditioned as solo candidates for the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor.[4] They failed to progress to the "Boys" category at "judges' houses" but were put together to form a five–piece boy band at Wembley Arena, in London, England, in July 2010, during the "bootcamp" stage of the competition,[5] thus qualifying for the "Groups" category. Nicole Scherzinger, a guest judge,[4][6][7] and Simon Cowell have both claimed to have come up with the idea of forming the band. In 2013, Cowell said that it "took him 10 minutes to put them together as a group".[8] Subsequently, the group got together for two weeks to get to know each other and to practise.[9][10] Styles came up with the name One Direction.[9] For their qualifying song at "judges' houses", and their first song as a group, One Direction sang an acoustic version of "Torn".[11] Cowell later commented that their performance convinced him that they "were confident, fun, like a gang of friends, and kind of fearless as well."[12] Within the first four weeks of the live shows, they were his last act in the competition.[13] The group quickly gained popularity in the UK.[12] One Direction finished in third place and immediately after the final, their song "Forever Young", which would have been released if they had won The X Factor, was leaked onto the internet.[14] Shortly afterwards it was confirmed that One ... A Disappearing Number I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed by Complicite and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that the mixture of maths and romance as well as the structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the present together, was extremely successful. The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to stoop beneath it in order to enter and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology, including sound effects, projections, pod casts and voice overs. The scene which stood out most for me, concerning technology would be the scene where Al is trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he begins to look through Ruth?s belongings of books, papers and passports. While he is doing this, actions too small to be seen from the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto the whiteboard behind to show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page from a book which has been marked down and as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the same words, quietly at first and as that gradually builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over reading out the words from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his own book. We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical terminology I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried on throughout the whole performance, making it, from my point of view, the strongest link from the present to the past, as Ruth was wanting to follow in the footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy. Five individual guys audition not knowing what the next couple of weeks will bring. Season 7 started off and all five members Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis kicked it off by going to boot camp. Through boot camp they had to learn how to dance and team up with other people to go to the next round. I can't even begin to tell you how many times people have given me judgemental expressions when they found out that I like the band One Direction. Being in a fandom which is dominated by younger female fans does bring a lot of judgement upon oneself. If you don't know what I'm talking about, One Direction fans have been deemed by society 'desperate hormonal teenage girls without a good taste in music'. Yes, the band does have a huge following of young females. Yes, most of the fans are between the ages of 12–16. That was the story of how I was a victim of stereotyping, but I would also like to elaborate on another stereotype, one that withers my faith in humanity bit by bit: that people with a fairly high amount of tattoos or piercings are labelled uneducated and unprofessional. Before anything let me just ask you how a person's choice of getting a tattoo or a piercing affects their level of intelligence? Majority consider that having a tattoo basically proves bad judgement and a low intelligence level. I for one have never heard the fact that getting tattoos or piercings magically hinders a person's learning capability! Opportunities should not be hindered just because they have inked themselves. The only thing that disturbed me in my opinion was the latter half of the movie, where it goes through an enormous time skip and tries to take itself seriously, which in my opinion changed the pacing drastically. The latter half also takes place after the death of the Spiral King and explains what's going on in the world such as: politics, government and etc. It didn't suit the type of mentality this show was providing and just gave me a "what happened?" type of vibe. This really dragged down the movie until later in the film it decides to ditch the serious act and start blowing stuff up again. In doing so they've created the most astounding climaxes in animation in my opinion. I would really love to say that this movie was perfect from start to finish but the time skip and the show decided to take itself seriously dragged on and was unnecessary. What I like about the characters in Gurren Lagann were the characters how they were portrayed and developed. Though they do fill in the standard anime tropes you see today, but what separates them from the stereotype is that they actually have a lot of character development. Our main protagonist, Simon suits this quite well; he's a weak, shy, and not someone who'd you typically root for to lead the fight.
