The Vietnam War And The Cold War
For a while there was really only one scene, the main scene. In some eyes, society had a way prior to the 60 's to fixate only on what certain people
thought were appropriate. Aspects such as the masculinity of America, white prowess, and the professional look, in a sense plagued America and
beyond. Also, the United State 's government was war hungry, after WW2 we put ourselves in conflicts: theKorean War, Vietnam War, and theCold
War. These were truly scary times for the people. Fast forward to the 70 's, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War is still taking a toll on our country.
Everyone was sick of this and the youth did not want a fight for simply just adding toll numbers to death. This influenced culture immensely and
while this was all happening a new breed of ideas were brewing. A new wave of substances became obtainable and people took a hold of these
which as we now know changed the face of that generation of people and further rippling out to others. The psychedelia wave arrived and forever
society norms changed, how people treated people changed, and Rock & Roll changed at a time that was screaming for change. In the beginning
there was LSD, the influence of this drug can be seen in many forms. Mainly LSD had the altering effect that can be seen, but, many other drugs had
its place among the groups of people. The LSD influences can be seen in music videos, can be listen to in music, and the idea of hippies was sure
shaped my LSD.

The Influence Of The Hippie Subculture
A new Identity for American Youth
– An essay on how the teenage ideology was influenced by the Hippie subculture
Born from the social turmoil, and the differing opinions of people during the Vietnam War. The Hippie movement first gained traction in American
Colleges and Universities. These young adults during the 1950s, are considered to be the very first pioneers of the hippie subculture. Through the
youths' rebellious nature against the main ideals of society, and the growing popularity of the hippie subculture, hippies, through the 50s up until the
80s, have managed to cultivate and solidify a new concept of social behavior in young adults: The teenager. This essay will show us how the hippie
subculture managed to change the old ideals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song helped bring awareness to the public –and teenagers
alike, about the values of the Hippies. Another influential song of the Hippie era is "Fortunate Son" by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. This
song is a protest against the United States' involvement in the Vietnam war, as the Hippies saw that the US Army's involvement in the war as a mistake.
"Fortunate Son" addresses the issue of the discriminating way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers– as they forced the poor
population to fight much more often than people who held more political power. As much as fifty–five percent of the fighting force belonged in the
working–class. The message this song sends, closely associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war. This song, also being very popular
to the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the government and societal norm, causing teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie
subculture (since rebelling against societal norms was one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who contributed to the change of impression in
teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. "For what it's worth" is another protest song written in 1966. Although the literal meaning of the song is about hippies
protesting a curfew at their favorite

What Is The Defiance Of The Hippie Generation
To what extent is the defiance of the hippie generation reincarnated into the lives of the youth of today?
Fifty–seven years ago the Hippie; "a young person who reject the mores of established society and advocates a non–violent ethnic" made a tremendous
amount of differences in the lives around them and within themselves. They brought change worldwide and stood risen for their beliefs – stood risen to
the point whereby many suggest that the defiance of the hippie generation has reincarnated into the lives of the youth today, still rising. Their ability to
openly resist against the government, and society itself left the world and mostly their elders in awe. In relation with the youth of today – it in is in a
crowd of thousands when you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This source gives some background to the 1960s movements and with close reference to today's youth, it is clear that although by means of violent
out breaks from occasion to occasion due to the frustration students are experiencing with regards to corrupt government. As the student protests make
headlines, it's like you can see the student protest from the 1960's in your head, a resemblance of young people who stand up for what they believe
in. Now although the matters being fought for in the two era's are completely different and whereby some might argue and say that what the youth is
fighting for today is not as serious to what the youth fought for in the 60's, but those must remember it is a different era, with different problems but
still the students rise up for what they believe in and stand tall, just like the hippies did. [Source A and Source B]
Now the defiance of the hippie generation; meaning the open resistance, the refusal to obey rules by this generation could be viewed in one way
or one could look deeper and further whereby one can not only look at how the hippies are reincarnated into the youth of today in terms of protests
and voices opinions but also in terms of breaking rules in the way on is expected to live. It was always said that one should keep ones sexuality
secret and it was in the 1960's when sexuality was no secret, woman did not care about whom they slept with and no one else really cared because it
was about happiness and freedom

Rock N Roll Counterculture
Rock n' roll and punk have often been pitted against each other to determine which is the superior genre of music. Persons of the respective parties
can be found in groups debating whether or not punk or rock n' roll is the superior genre; most subscribers to these genres become quick masters of all
things punk or rock n' roll. Both will sit around with various alcoholic beverages strewn about, naming bands in quick succession and ticking them off
on their fingers as if doing so adds some sort of validity to their argument. To survive in such a paramount argument one must learn the lingo of each
subculture, including but not limited to the history, surrounding culture and style, and the content of a live–show and a band's previous records.... Show

It is argued over whether rock n' roll is a counterculture or not because it was widely popular amongst children and adults alike at it's prime and
ultimately did not present any radically different ideas, but what can't be argued is rock n' roll's seniority and perfected tone. While there is much to
be said about the bands that proudly wear the label punk or rock n' roll as a button on their acid washed jean vests, something has to be said for the
history and subculture that defines each respective genre. Punk refutes social attitudes that have been perpetuated through willful ignorance of human
nature, and rock n' roll is just a trend that people followed because of it's attractive ideal. If it were not for punk, voices as strong and influential as
Billie Joe Armstrong or Sid Vicious would never had made an impact on millions of angry citizens who were surfeited of systematic oppression and
capitalistic ideals. Counterculture has always been political and driven by the underground, whether it be the Lolita girls of Japan, the Kontrkul'tura
movement in Russia, the Nambassa lifestyle in New Zealand, or the Basque Radical Rock movement in Spain, but nothing quite compares to the raw
grit and blood that goes into being punk, the ultimately universal counterculture. At it's heart punk is anti–society and anti–normalcy. Because human
nature yearns for acceptance, and punk objects such assimilation, it is the only true

The Hippie Counterculture
The Hippie Counterculture
The Hippie Movement changed the politics and the culture in America in the 1960s. When the nineteen fifties turned into the nineteen sixties, not
much had changed, people were still extremely patriotic, the society of America seemed to work together, and the youth of America did not have
much to worry about, except for how fast their car went or what kind of outfit they should wear to the Prom. After 1963, things started to slowly
change in how America viewed its politics, culture, and social beliefs, and the group that was in charge of this change seemed to be the youth of
America. The Civil Rights Movement, President Kennedy's death, new music, the birth control pill, the growing illegal drug market, and the ... Show

The flower children held love–ins to celebrate their rights, spoke out publicly, formed protest groups with the slogan: Hell no, we won't go!, burned
flags, and tore up draft slips" (Buchholz 858). Many hippies tried to avoid the draft; they did not believe that they should be forced to fight in a war
that they did not believe in. Many said that they were gay, or claimed that they were insane just to stay away from Vietnam. Even though many
members of the hippie's families were being drafted they continued to protest, and many of these protests were at America's colleges. "Protests began
in Columbia University and Berkley University, California. A demonstration against Nixon's decision to invade Cambodia led to violence at Kent State
University; the National Guard killed four students. Finally, the University of Virginia, founded by America's forefather of freedom Thomas Jefferson,
was raided by two hundred baton–waving policemen who arrested sixty–eight students" (Thompson 66–8). The greatest voice of the Hippie Movement
was their music.
Rock and roll was their inspiration. "Led by Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and the Beatles, rock and folk music overtook the
airwaves"(Manning 102). At the forefront of the musical change was Bob Dylan. "In a civil rights march in 1963, he sang the following lyrics: How
many years can some people exist before their allowed to be free? The answer, my friend, is

The Rock–n–Roll movement in the nineteen fifties planted the seeds of the Hippie Movement, but Kennedy's assassination, and the Vietnam War really
is what sparked this social change in America.
President Kennedy saw the Vietnam situation as America's fight to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy, who was young and well liked by the
American people, did not really see much protest from the American people. He wanted equality in America, and supported open–mindedness in his
country; at his assassination in 1963 only 15,000 troops were in Vietnam. His successor, Lyndon B. Johnson greatly increased the number of troops
that went to Vietnam, reaching 500,000 in 1966. Television allowed the American public to see what these soldiers were facing and that this was a
senseless war. Too many men were coming home in American flag draped coffins, causing many Americans to rebel and move to the new hippie
counterculture.
'The hippie movement germinated in San Francisco, with the Vietnam War at its core. The movement eventually spread to the East Coast as well,
centralized in New York's East Village in addition to the Haight
–Asbury district of San Francisco and Sunset Strip of Los Angeles" (Buchholz 858).
Many hippies were angry over the conformist lifestyle that Americans were living in, and wanted to live how they wanted to live not how their
employer or television wanted them to live. Hippies also took a political

Hippies– known for their love of drugs and sex, they often misguided the common folk of their intentions. In their minds, what they were doing was
guilelessly standing up for themselves and what they considered was theirs; what they believed in. They believed in their rights, and they wanted to
do what they pleased; not to conform to the requirements of living in the average society of the time. They wanted to create a culture where spiritual
awareness was highly regarded (sometimes through psychedelic drugs), where everything was given freely, where everyone (even strangers) were
thought of as one's brother, where everyone valued peace, and where rights were given freely to everyone. (Express Thyself. (n.d.)) These rights would

But many of the upper and middle class did not like this outlook on life. In a world where the upper classes were on top, and they had everything they
wanted, they saw no reason for change in society. The movement started with a few small groups of rebellious citizens, and it then grew into something
much bigger which led to a counterculture movement across the entire country. The Americanhippie movement of the 1960s was strengthened by the
increase of youth population. Many believe the official beginning of this cultural event started with the youth of the 1960's but it really started with
their parents. In the late 1930s and early 1940s America was just coming out of a disheartening depression.(About the Great Depression.) America's
unfortunate fate led them into another unlucky situation, World War II. Many youthful men and women joined the service, in fact over an estimated
sixteen million total were sent into the war.( GI Bill History – U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs. ) In the late 1940s soldiers coming back at the end
of the war were now onto the next stage of their lives and made families. This is what started the baby boomers. After so many hardships and losses the
last thing anyone expected was an approximately seventy–six million babies born between baby boomer era of about ten to fifteen years. (BBHQ:
Boomer Statistics. ) Many of these children had strict parents who had become disheartened from losing childhood

Consumerism In The Hippie Movement
The 1960s Hippie movement was a major point in the American history. In the 1960s a certain class of young people associated their lifestyles
with the ideas of freedom, peace, and love. Hippies acted against white upper middle class lifestyle because they thought it was based on the wrong
ideology. Hippies were against consumerism and American suburban life of the late 1950s and early 1960s was embodied in itself the idea of
consumerism. Hippies, on the other hand, felt better about communal life with equal distribution of social goods. Traditional "bigger share" and
consumerist greed as concepts of American society were despised by Hippies. White middle class suburban America with its traditional values and
financial prosperity of baby boom generation was ideologically unfit for the energetic American youth. Seeing half of the world starving (Africa, India,
China) Hippies considered it highly inappropriate to bath in economic prosperity and technological progress with half of the world being deprived of
basic human needs. That way Hippies alienated them from their parents presenting an alternative lifestyle to that of consumerism. Traditional
business–like lifestyle of white middle class in America was based on financial success and economic prosperity as the features of happiness. Hippies
claimed that happiness does not come from money but goes along with peace, love, and unity (Moretta, 45). While typical American family built a
house and occupied a huge territory

Contrasting the Contemporary Hipster with the Classical...
Professor: Peter Barnes Student: Isaac Coriat Date: September 29, 2013 Comparative Essay: Contemporary Hipsters and Classic Hippies Throughout
the years people always had the need to express their individuality, and the way its been done has constantly varied in multiple dimensions. Of course
time has played a key role but it's not been the only determinant. It seems for societal changes to occur on a prolific wave–like manner, infecting
people, giving them a sense of identification with the current wave of expression. Although somewhat consistent, the unstructured nature of the act
allows for individual creativity to take place and perhaps be distinguished enough to influence other people in the same circle; characters who... Show

Through the years, hipsters became more nuanced and alive in society, more connected through a shared sense of music (unknown indie bands),
developed a particular style (single–gear bicycles), and eventually their own attitudinal characteristics (typically ironic). The following quote from
writer Mark Grief portrays some key physical traits of Hipsters and the common roles they play in society: "The hipster is that person, overlapping with
the intentional dropout or the unintentionally declassed individual–the neo–bohemian, the vegan or bicyclist or skatepunk, the would–be blue–collar or
postracial twentysomething, the starving artist or graduate student–who in fact aligns

The Vietnam War And The Cold War

  • 1. The Vietnam War And The Cold War For a while there was really only one scene, the main scene. In some eyes, society had a way prior to the 60 's to fixate only on what certain people thought were appropriate. Aspects such as the masculinity of America, white prowess, and the professional look, in a sense plagued America and beyond. Also, the United State 's government was war hungry, after WW2 we put ourselves in conflicts: theKorean War, Vietnam War, and theCold War. These were truly scary times for the people. Fast forward to the 70 's, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War is still taking a toll on our country. Everyone was sick of this and the youth did not want a fight for simply just adding toll numbers to death. This influenced culture immensely and while this was all happening a new breed of ideas were brewing. A new wave of substances became obtainable and people took a hold of these which as we now know changed the face of that generation of people and further rippling out to others. The psychedelia wave arrived and forever society norms changed, how people treated people changed, and Rock & Roll changed at a time that was screaming for change. In the beginning there was LSD, the influence of this drug can be seen in many forms. Mainly LSD had the altering effect that can be seen, but, many other drugs had its place among the groups of people. The LSD influences can be seen in music videos, can be listen to in music, and the idea of hippies was sure shaped my LSD. Prior to the Psychedelia ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Influence Of The Hippie Subculture A new Identity for American Youth – An essay on how the teenage ideology was influenced by the Hippie subculture Born from the social turmoil, and the differing opinions of people during the Vietnam War. The Hippie movement first gained traction in American Colleges and Universities. These young adults during the 1950s, are considered to be the very first pioneers of the hippie subculture. Through the youths' rebellious nature against the main ideals of society, and the growing popularity of the hippie subculture, hippies, through the 50s up until the 80s, have managed to cultivate and solidify a new concept of social behavior in young adults: The teenager. This essay will show us how the hippie subculture managed to change the old ideals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song helped bring awareness to the public –and teenagers alike, about the values of the Hippies. Another influential song of the Hippie era is "Fortunate Son" by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song is a protest against the United States' involvement in the Vietnam war, as the Hippies saw that the US Army's involvement in the war as a mistake. "Fortunate Son" addresses the issue of the discriminating way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers– as they forced the poor population to fight much more often than people who held more political power. As much as fifty–five percent of the fighting force belonged in the working–class. The message this song sends, closely associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war. This song, also being very popular to the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the government and societal norm, causing teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie subculture (since rebelling against societal norms was one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who contributed to the change of impression in teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. "For what it's worth" is another protest song written in 1966. Although the literal meaning of the song is about hippies protesting a curfew at their favorite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is The Defiance Of The Hippie Generation To what extent is the defiance of the hippie generation reincarnated into the lives of the youth of today? Fifty–seven years ago the Hippie; "a young person who reject the mores of established society and advocates a non–violent ethnic" made a tremendous amount of differences in the lives around them and within themselves. They brought change worldwide and stood risen for their beliefs – stood risen to the point whereby many suggest that the defiance of the hippie generation has reincarnated into the lives of the youth today, still rising. Their ability to openly resist against the government, and society itself left the world and mostly their elders in awe. In relation with the youth of today – it in is in a crowd of thousands when you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This source gives some background to the 1960s movements and with close reference to today's youth, it is clear that although by means of violent out breaks from occasion to occasion due to the frustration students are experiencing with regards to corrupt government. As the student protests make headlines, it's like you can see the student protest from the 1960's in your head, a resemblance of young people who stand up for what they believe in. Now although the matters being fought for in the two era's are completely different and whereby some might argue and say that what the youth is fighting for today is not as serious to what the youth fought for in the 60's, but those must remember it is a different era, with different problems but still the students rise up for what they believe in and stand tall, just like the hippies did. [Source A and Source B] Now the defiance of the hippie generation; meaning the open resistance, the refusal to obey rules by this generation could be viewed in one way or one could look deeper and further whereby one can not only look at how the hippies are reincarnated into the youth of today in terms of protests and voices opinions but also in terms of breaking rules in the way on is expected to live. It was always said that one should keep ones sexuality secret and it was in the 1960's when sexuality was no secret, woman did not care about whom they slept with and no one else really cared because it was about happiness and freedom ... • 4. Rock N Roll Counterculture Rock n' roll and punk have often been pitted against each other to determine which is the superior genre of music. Persons of the respective parties can be found in groups debating whether or not punk or rock n' roll is the superior genre; most subscribers to these genres become quick masters of all things punk or rock n' roll. Both will sit around with various alcoholic beverages strewn about, naming bands in quick succession and ticking them off on their fingers as if doing so adds some sort of validity to their argument. To survive in such a paramount argument one must learn the lingo of each subculture, including but not limited to the history, surrounding culture and style, and the content of a live–show and a band's previous records.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is argued over whether rock n' roll is a counterculture or not because it was widely popular amongst children and adults alike at it's prime and ultimately did not present any radically different ideas, but what can't be argued is rock n' roll's seniority and perfected tone. While there is much to be said about the bands that proudly wear the label punk or rock n' roll as a button on their acid washed jean vests, something has to be said for the history and subculture that defines each respective genre. Punk refutes social attitudes that have been perpetuated through willful ignorance of human nature, and rock n' roll is just a trend that people followed because of it's attractive ideal. If it were not for punk, voices as strong and influential as Billie Joe Armstrong or Sid Vicious would never had made an impact on millions of angry citizens who were surfeited of systematic oppression and capitalistic ideals. Counterculture has always been political and driven by the underground, whether it be the Lolita girls of Japan, the Kontrkul'tura movement in Russia, the Nambassa lifestyle in New Zealand, or the Basque Radical Rock movement in Spain, but nothing quite compares to the raw grit and blood that goes into being punk, the ultimately universal counterculture. At it's heart punk is anti–society and anti–normalcy. Because human nature yearns for acceptance, and punk objects such assimilation, it is the only true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Hippie Counterculture The Hippie Counterculture The Hippie Movement changed the politics and the culture in America in the 1960s. When the nineteen fifties turned into the nineteen sixties, not much had changed, people were still extremely patriotic, the society of America seemed to work together, and the youth of America did not have much to worry about, except for how fast their car went or what kind of outfit they should wear to the Prom. After 1963, things started to slowly change in how America viewed its politics, culture, and social beliefs, and the group that was in charge of this change seemed to be the youth of America. The flower children held love–ins to celebrate their rights, spoke out publicly, formed protest groups with the slogan: Hell no, we won't go!, burned flags, and tore up draft slips" (Buchholz 858). Many hippies tried to avoid the draft; they did not believe that they should be forced to fight in a war that they did not believe in. Many said that they were gay, or claimed that they were insane just to stay away from Vietnam. Even though many members of the hippie's families were being drafted they continued to protest, and many of these protests were at America's colleges. "Protests began in Columbia University and Berkley University, California. A demonstration against Nixon's decision to invade Cambodia led to violence at Kent State University; the National Guard killed four students. Finally, the University of Virginia, founded by America's forefather of freedom Thomas Jefferson, was raided by two hundred baton–waving policemen who arrested sixty–eight students" (Thompson 66–8). The greatest voice of the Hippie Movement was their music. Rock and roll was their inspiration. "Led by Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and the Beatles, rock and folk music overtook the airwaves"(Manning 102). At the forefront of the musical change was Bob Dylan. "In a civil rights march in 1963, he sang the following lyrics: How many years can some people exist before their allowed to be free? The answer, my friend, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rock–n–Roll movement in the nineteen fifties planted the seeds of the Hippie Movement, but Kennedy's assassination, and the Vietnam War really is what sparked this social change in America. President Kennedy saw the Vietnam situation as America's fight to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy, who was young and well liked by the American people, did not really see much protest from the American people. He wanted equality in America, and supported open–mindedness in his country; at his assassination in 1963 only 15,000 troops were in Vietnam. His successor, Lyndon B. Johnson greatly increased the number of troops that went to Vietnam, reaching 500,000 in 1966. Television allowed the American public to see what these soldiers were facing and that this was a senseless war. Too many men were coming home in American flag draped coffins, causing many Americans to rebel and move to the new hippie counterculture. 'The hippie movement germinated in San Francisco, with the Vietnam War at its core. The movement eventually spread to the East Coast as well, centralized in New York's East Village in addition to the Haight –Asbury district of San Francisco and Sunset Strip of Los Angeles" (Buchholz 858). • 7. Essay The Hippie Movement of 1960s America Hippies– known for their love of drugs and sex, they often misguided the common folk of their intentions. In their minds, what they were doing was guilelessly standing up for themselves and what they considered was theirs; what they believed in. They believed in their rights, and they wanted to do what they pleased; not to conform to the requirements of living in the average society of the time. They wanted to create a culture where spiritual awareness was highly regarded (sometimes through psychedelic drugs), where everything was given freely, where everyone (even strangers) were thought of as one's brother, where everyone valued peace, and where rights were given freely to everyone. (Express Thyself. (n.d.)) These rights would include... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But many of the upper and middle class did not like this outlook on life. In a world where the upper classes were on top, and they had everything they wanted, they saw no reason for change in society. The movement started with a few small groups of rebellious citizens, and it then grew into something much bigger which led to a counterculture movement across the entire country. The Americanhippie movement of the 1960s was strengthened by the increase of youth population. Many believe the official beginning of this cultural event started with the youth of the 1960's but it really started with their parents. In the late 1930s and early 1940s America was just coming out of a disheartening depression.(About the Great Depression.) America's unfortunate fate led them into another unlucky situation, World War II. Many youthful men and women joined the service, in fact over an estimated sixteen million total were sent into the war.( GI Bill History – U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs. ) In the late 1940s soldiers coming back at the end of the war were now onto the next stage of their lives and made families. This is what started the baby boomers. After so many hardships and losses the last thing anyone expected was an approximately seventy–six million babies born between baby boomer era of about ten to fifteen years. • 8. Consumerism In The Hippie Movement The 1960s Hippie movement was a major point in the American history. In the 1960s a certain class of young people associated their lifestyles with the ideas of freedom, peace, and love. Hippies acted against white upper middle class lifestyle because they thought it was based on the wrong ideology. Hippies were against consumerism and American suburban life of the late 1950s and early 1960s was embodied in itself the idea of consumerism. Hippies, on the other hand, felt better about communal life with equal distribution of social goods. Traditional "bigger share" and consumerist greed as concepts of American society were despised by Hippies. White middle class suburban America with its traditional values and financial prosperity of baby boom generation was ideologically unfit for the energetic American youth. Seeing half of the world starving (Africa, India, China) Hippies considered it highly inappropriate to bath in economic prosperity and technological progress with half of the world being deprived of basic human needs. That way Hippies alienated them from their parents presenting an alternative lifestyle to that of consumerism. Traditional business–like lifestyle of white middle class in America was based on financial success and economic prosperity as the features of happiness. Hippies claimed that happiness does not come from money but goes along with peace, love, and unity (Moretta, 45). While typical American family built a house and occupied a huge territory ... Professor: Peter Barnes Student: Isaac Coriat Date: September 29, 2013 Comparative Essay: Contemporary Hipsters and Classic Hippies Throughout the years people always had the need to express their individuality, and the way its been done has constantly varied in multiple dimensions. Of course time has played a key role but it's not been the only determinant. It seems for societal changes to occur on a prolific wave–like manner, infecting people, giving them a sense of identification with the current wave of expression. Although somewhat consistent, the unstructured nature of the act allows for individual creativity to take place and perhaps be distinguished enough to influence other people in the same circle; characters who...
