What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality
Today, the world is not doing as well as people would like: gender equality has yet to be achieved,
climate change is putting millions at risk, two–hundred million people are unemployed, and people
are more stressed than ever. Trying to solve these world challenges, people are working more and
more hours, yet little progress is being made. The solution is rather simple: work less.
Women around the world are under–represented in the workforce, making up less than 20% of CEO
positions, and, in America, fewer than 20% of Congressional positions are filled by women. Reasons
for this lack of representation may be due to prejudice, but it is important to recognize that women
are viewed as the primary child caregiver in most families. For this reason, many women take off
work for several months after childbirth and are often thwarted from higher positions because they
take leave. If both males and females had shorter work weeks, then both genders would be able to
devote more time to child care, allowing women to continue to work sooner and progress in their
fields. In addition, studies have shown that men who take paternity leave are more devoted to their
families and are 50% more likely to help their wives with domestic labor, such as cooking, cleaning,
and laundry. Thus, the shorter work week would lead to both equal representation in the work place
and at home, subsequently, breaking the barriers of gender inequality.
Shorter work weeks will not only benefit parents, but they

Factors Affecting Labor Productivity And Their Affect...
Q1. Factors affecting Labor productivity and their affect levels? Ans. The Factors that can affect the
labor productivity are discussed below:– 1. Overtime is the major factor that can affect the
productivity rate. Planning of expanded work days or weeks surpassing a standard eight–hour work
day or 40–hour work week brings down work yield and productivity through physical weariness and
poor mental demeanor. 2. Joint ownership: – This happens when work is booked using a similar
office or work range that must be shared or possessed by more than one specialty, and not foreseen
in the first offer or plan. 3. Beneficial occupancy:– This is an aftereffect of working over, around, or
in nearness to different specialties, proprietor 's faculty, or generation hardware, which may bring
about commotion confinements, tidy, or different risky hazard. This may likewise forestall or cause
get to limitations. 4. Errors and Omissions:– Increments in errors and omissions affect on work
profitability since changes are then ordinarily performed on a crash premise, out of grouping, cause
weakening of supervision, or whatever other negative effects. 5. Crew size inefficiency: – This is the
point at which the ideal group size is modified by including or erasing team individuals. At the point
when specialists are included or erased from a group, it separates the first collaboration and beat of
the team and results in loss of profitability. 6. Logistics:– Deficient or poor material handling,

Navy Uniforms Case Study
Financial Burden to Maintain Uniforms
Navy uniforms are some of the most striking and recognizable symbols of honor and tradition
around the world. Whether in dress blues, dress whites or khakis, the men and women who dawn the
Navy uniform wear it with pride and distinction. Senior Enlisted Leaders must be aware of available
organizational clothing and maximize Sailor usage to minimize the financial burden on members.
This paper will cover the background of the Navy's uniform requirements and the financial burden
required to maintain them, offer discussion on the impact it has on personnel and recommendations
for mitigating these impacts.
Problem
The U.S. Navy provides an initial issue of uniforms to all members upon accession into the service,
however the work schedule and working environment reduces wear life. The problem is Sailors are
forced to pay the high cost of maintaining and replacing uniforms required for daily use. The U.S.
Navy provides 3 sets of Navy Working Uniforms (NWU) and 2 sets of Navy Service Uniforms
(NSU) (NAVPERS 15665I). This allotment does not meet the daily use requirements nor are they
durable enough to endure the rigors of the work environment and required laundering. The next
topic will focus on a discussion about maintenance of the working uniforms attributing to the
financial burden our Service Members and their families incur.
Discussion
Navy manpower requirements are based on mission requirements and are set forth in OPNAVINST

Flexitime Essay
Nowadays many people manage to apply a broad methodology in running their own career under a
preferable time–frame. There are wider approaches on having an ideal working system that could
enable the best practice of working which leads toward an excellent outcome. Many industries
continue to the nine to five work hours whilst others prefer flexitime. The 9–5 job is still very
familiar with some industries. However, the balance in dealing with career and family life is an issue
that concerns both employees and industries. Employees who have a balance between career and life
are likely to be more satisfied with their life rather than those who only focus on work. Therefore,
work and life balance would greatly enable productivity and ensure an employment arrangement
that enables positive office morale. One of the best ways to enable employees to reach a good
balance between career and family life is through flexitime. Hawks explained flexitime as "a work
schedule that requires employees to be present for predetermined core hours but allows them the
flexibility to vary the rest of their schedule based on their needs and preferences" (2014, para. 2).
Flexible schedule originated in Germany in 1967 (Ministry of Manpower, 2001). It aimed to
mitigate the commuting issue and in 1972, being introduced to the United States by the Hewlett–
Packard Company (Stafco, 2014). Flexitime is widely known as a flexible work option. This system
involves 40 hours of a work week, but these hours

The Reasons Why Junior Doctors Are Striking
Seven days a week. More unsociable working hours. Extra premiums on weekends will be lowered.
These are the main reasons why junior doctors are striking. This is only a handful of the drastic
changes that the Secretary of Health, Jeremy Hunt has imposed since being appointed in 2012. It is
very transparent as to why junior doctors choose to strike however there are drawbacks to doctors
striking. This project will help to uncover how this new working contract is affecting junior doctors
to an extent where they feel as though striking is appropriate. There will be an evaluation of whether
the striking is worth taking part in and whether it is a dangerous to strike on working days. Finally, a
conclusion will be draw alongside a solution for both parties: the Government and junior doctors.
The primary issue of the newly proposed contracts is the increase in working hours and the cuts on
extra premiums. For instance, currently in the normal contract, sociable hours are 7am–7pm
Monday to Friday. The new proposal by the government extends sociable hours to Monday to
Friday 7am–8pm and on Saturday an additional 7am–5pm shift. Altogether that accumulates to 11
extra hours of work in one week. However, there has been an increase in basic salary by 13.5%.
Nonetheless, junior doctors believe that this has very little benefit to them. Rather the new contract
is making them feel more fatigued. Dagan Lonsdale who is a junior doctor believes, "tired doctors
make mistakes." He thinks

Why The Eight Hour Workdays Are Sufficient
Eight Hour Workdays Are Sufficient
I do not think they should change the law from an eight hour workday to six hour workdays.
Everyone is used to their usual 9–5 jobs(or whatever it may be). It has been the normal routine for
years. If you don't want to work a full 40 hour job then you should have a part–time job.
If workers could get all of the work done in the six hour shift then there should be no need for
overtime. I understand the issue of getting hours cut but, it is a plus for all workers to have more
time to spend doing what they want on their "free time". Companies should be willing to give the
option of either eight or six hours days. Whomever would wish to stay and make up the extra hours
and money should be able to do

Benefits Of Working A Four Day Work Week
The idea of only working a four–day work week sounds appealing to most people and I don't blame
them for liking the idea. The idea brings upon great benefits like, saving money on commuting
costs, companies will save money on operating expenses, and many more things that can catch your
attention. It all looks great on paper or when you hear it on a television special showing how people
are enjoying life in countries that have adapted this work ideology. For many of us that do work a
full time job, working an eight hour day is tough as it is. When asked to stay for a an hour , usually
you're not going to be as productive or carry a high morale as you did in the previous dreaded 8
hours of work. It's hard to imagine being able to enjoy doing that for four consecutive days a week
working a ten–hour workday. Like many things they seem great on paper, but only time and results
tell the dark truth of a doomed idea. Recession makes people think about how money is spent and
how certain budgets can be managed. The four–day work week in Oakland County which is right
outside of Detroit, MI was a plan in reaction to rising gas prices. About 450 employees signed on to
this idea to avoid a pay cut, they were also saving money on not having to commute a day out of the
week to work which is an environmental benefit also. Oakland was not the only place to try out this
idea. 17,000 state employees in Utah were scheduled to work a trial program which consisted of
them only working Monday

My Cashier Career
I really enjoy working at Dairy Queen. I complete many tasks throughout my shifts. We cashiers are
able to take orders, make ice–cream, clean up, and make sure that the customer area stays clean.
When I get to work, I clock in first and wash my hands at the hand washing sink. Next, I sign my
name in the "Red Book" and look at the daily chores that need to be completed. Before I start on the
chores, I check the screen to make sure that no ice–cream needs to be made. If I go straight to doing
the chores, I check the ice, make sure the candies are stocked, clean the customer area, and make
sure that the condiment station is stocked. Then, during my shift, I take orders and make ice–cream.

The life that makes each of us believe that we have a purpose other than slaving over our careers.
We want the type of life that does not involve numbers, and clients. We want to replace those with
birthday parties and time with loved ones. Every hard working employed person looks forward to
their vacation, a time to relax and step away from the office. It does not mean that we are not
dedicated to our jobs, just that we merely need that down time to be human beings. However, we
continue to give our all to our employers, even at the expense of our family.
It is not necessary for Americans to work over a 40–hour workweek because if we were able to
spend more time with our families and have a better quality of life with a decrease in stress and
health problems, society would benefit greatly.
There is a good chance that we are all guilty of overworking. We often neglect our families, our
diets, our stress level, and most of all, our sanity. We are so tired that we do not have the energy to
keep up with our daily duties. Our laundry and dishes pile up, and we can't find that small amount of
time to take our kids to the park. We lost track of what a real vacation felt like, because if for some
small reason we actually took days off work, we spend them catching up on the areas we have fallen
behind in. The question is why? Why do we choose to over–do ourselves for work? It's simple, we
all want to feel and show that we are

Everyone Should Go Back To College
Everyone has busy lives especially those that daily, are juggling more than one task. Nowhere is this
more apparent than in the life of a college professional, or someone who attends a job while going to
college. Many struggle going to long work weeks to be able to afford their bills while they also
going to school for hope of a better future. This is something relatable to a great deal of young
Americans, and something that is becoming more common place in our older generations that later
in life are choosing to advance their education. Between the exams, essays, late nights and long days
how does one have time to forgo all these proceedings while simultaneously maintaining a social
life? As impossible as it may sound it is achievable with the right tools, mindset and dedication. I am

surmount such a task. There are many options available for those who wish to go back to school or
those students who need some extra cash. It is very important to use the resources that are provided
and to take every opportunity to be able to better ourselves. If we look to the past to see how others
have achieved their goals, we can learn to be able to accomplish such affairs ourselves. With a little
hard work a seemingly impossible task starts to become realistic with the outlook of a better future. I
consider going to school is important but shouldn't come with the sacrifices of always being broke
or never moving out. I would want to wish everyone the best of luck and to know that it is entirely

California. (Chase, Jacobs, and Aquilano, 2004) Large computer companies such as Apple and
Hewlett–Packard hire Circuit Board Fabricators to "make boards for prototypes of new products."
(Chase, et al., 2004) The case study suggests that Circuit Board Fabricators has a good business plan
established within the organization. CBF has implemented a largely automated process using
industry standard codes to produce the four circuit boards that have been developed to be able to
give quick and high quality service. There have been recent losses experienced by CBF, due to the

capacity of the process? The capacity of the flow process is at an imbalance. It takes nearly ¾ of an

What is the impact of losses in the process in Inspection and Final Test? The impact of the losses in

4-Day School Week
It's no secret that high school students abhor Mondays. The weekend is never long enough, and
often students don't feel refreshed by Monday morning. However, some schools across America are
giving students an extra day to their weekend – Mondays. Districts are giving students 3 day
weekends while giving teachers Monday to plan and attend meetings and workshops to improve
their classroom experience. All schools should switch to a 4–day school week because it gives
students more time for private studying and refreshing, as well as allowing teachers time to improve
their teaching skills and incorporate new things like technology into their lessons. Having Mondays

Advantages Of A 40 Hour Work Week
One hour a day, two days a week. Pitter Pitter Pitter. "Meet George Jetson...." Creators of the show
The Jetsons imagined that in the future, American workers such as George Jetson would hardly
work in a given week, even as little as one hour a day, two days a week. A less extreme prediction
by British economist John Maynard Keynes predicted in 1930 that in the year 2030, workers will
only only work about 15 hours per week. (Bregman) If asked whether they would want to work
longer hours or have more free time, most Americans today would want more free time. If a shorter
work week is so appealing, then why do we still put up with a 40 hour work week? Where is George
Jetson? As evidence from multiple other countries has shown, a shorter week could reduce
unemployment, improve productivity, and increase mental health standards, and the United States
should discard the current 40 hours a work system in exchange for a shorter, more practical one.
The current idea of a 40 hour work week has roots in American factories in the early 1900s. In
addition to their poor working conditions, American factory workers worked long hours. (Ortiz)
Workers formed labor unions, including the National Labor Union which advocated for "eight hours
for work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will." (Eberhardt) Even some businesses
agreed that the work week was too long, including the Ford Motor Company. In 1914, Henry Ford
scaled back his company's work week from 48 hours to 40 hours

people really opened up about why they were there. I mean, it does take something to open up about
your personal life to a group of people you barely know. As people spoke about serious issues like
self harm, mental health and depression as reasons for themselves, I began questioning my reason

Reflection Paper On Retreat
We trudged up the rigid, brown steps, knowing that the unknown was ahead. We were on our way,

know our new peer mentor partners, who we would work with once a month for the next year. 23
Birch Ridge Road, Hardwick, NJ was the destination. Camp Mason was the place that we'd spend
our next two days on Mother's Day weekend. The retreat has changed my life and I am better
because it allowed me to realize that nothing is ever as bad as I think it is and it can always be
worse. As we settled in on the campground that was filled with puddles and puddles of water all

suitcases off in the cabins and proceeded on to the main lodge, with no expectations for what was
next. The instructors split us up into two groups and then it began. Luckily, my friends Michael,
Justin, and Rupak were in my group with me. It started off with an ice breaker activity before, which
consisted of everyone trudging around the room, hoping that the activity would soon be over. Once
it finally ended, everyone prayed that the next activity would be at least slightly better. We started to

Black And Cuban Blood Runs Through My Veins Essay
There was once a time when I was naïve about stereotyping and racism. Up until my teenage years,

Living In A Small Town Essay
Living in a Small Town in a Big City
Everyone has a different opinion when they have to choose between live in a small town or a big
city. Some people think that living in a small town is peaceful because they feel much closer to the
nature, while the others choose to live in a big city because of its entertainment such as cinemas,
shopping centers, club, and concerts. Also, there are several similarities between small town and a
big city which is history, mission, vision, values, and goals to make their place become much better.
However, most people still do not know how to decide whether they want to live in a small town or
a big city and one of the ways to solve this is to compare them at several points.
Living in a big city can be very different from a small town. Since there are a lot of opportunities to
find a job in a big city, most people have their own variety of occupations. In the morning, people
are wake up and get ready to work. There are several occupations that most people in a big city

block out the natural noises that people would hear in a small town. It is not only the noise that is

means people in a small town are breathing healthier air than people in a big city. Unlike small

The Importance Of A Four Day Work
Introduction The definition of a four day work week varies depending who you are talking to. It can
refer to four eight hour days; four ten hour days; or even four twelve to fourteen hour days.
However all variations of a four day work week fall under the umbrella term "alternative work
arrangement." This term refers to any work schedule that varies from the standard five, eight hour
work day that the majority of the United States population is used to (Bird 1063). For the purposes
of this paper I will be talking about a compressed four day work week, not a shortened four day
work week or extended four day work week, this refers to a four hour work week I will be talking
about a schedule that consists of four, ten hour days, which is still a full forty hour work week. I will
be taking a close look at the benefits and drawback to both the employer and the employee when it
comes to working a four day work week. In addition to looking at the benefits to those directly
related, the employer and employee, I will also touch on some benefits to those who are indirectly
benefited; which refers to the general population. At first glance it would appear to many people that
a four day work week is not different than a standard five day work week; after all the same number
of hours are being work at weeks end. So, that begs the question why is it that only roughly 960,000
Americans, which is less than 1% of the labor force work a four day work week (Thank God it's
Thursday? 74)?

to–face challenges to people we knew to consider the ministry. I believe this attempt failed due in
part to most of the people that we knew were either already engaged in other ministries, or did not
wish to join one.
The next phases included requesting the Small Group Ministry to alert their Group Leaders of the
opportunity to serve the Church; both individually and/or as a small group. This was closely
followed by a similar request to both the Men's, Women's, and High School /Middle School Youth
ministries. I requested that if they were willing to get the word out to us to please make it an in–
person and personal appeal at their meetings (again, because general "we need help" emails tend to
be ineffective). I also made myself available to attend any event or presentation.
Small group ministries created a very nice write up. However, it eventually went out as an emailed
notice. This yielded no recruits. When I unofficially polled a few group leaders at a later training
event, no one recalled that

Css Northern Hospital, Technician Roster Essay
CSS NORTHERN HOSPITAL, TECHNICIAN ROSTER
RUSSELL STEWART, WILLIAM ZHI, BRENDAN ROSS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
The Northern Hospital has commissioned analysis work to be performed on its current and future
resource requirements. The Radiology Department requires an optimised four–week roster for their
CT scanner technicians. In particular, this study presents optimised rosters with minimal technicians
and minimal total hours worked.
The devised roster should satisfy the following requirements:
 The rosters cover 6am to 10pm of each day
 The shifts must be at least 4 hours and at most 8 hours
 There must be at least a 12 hour break between shifts
 In any week, no technician can work more than two shifts that finish after 6pm
 In any week, no technician can work on both days in the weekend
This study also investigates whether improvements can be made by lengthening shift durations to
between 6 and 9 hours.
DATA HANDLING
CT scanner allocations were retrieved from the Scanner Allocation Report . The scanner allocations
from 2015 to 2025 are shown below:

When I opened my eyes, it was just like any other day. The first thing I did, was close them again. I
had always loved to sleep in. I could never bare the thought of leaving the comfort of my bed to the
cold, harsh weather right away, yet alone to come to school. "I can only delay the inevitable" I
thought, as I regrettably rolled out of bed to begin the long day ahead. I made my way towards the
bathroom to brush my teeth, making sure to say hello to my dog, Gabe, as I passed by. Upon
entering the bathroom, I reached for my toothbrush and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror.
My brown hair was a mess as always, but I could barely tell without my glasses on. My hazel eyes
pierced the mirror, standing out like a bright light in the dark room, but they were slightly covered
by my glasses. I made note of my messy hair as I continued to brush my teeth, and once I was
finished, left the room. Upon leaving the bathroom, I went down the stairs to eat breakfast. I looked
thoroughly through the fridge, hoping for some easy to make leftovers, but unfortunately none were
left. I sighed, and went to make myself bacon and eggs for the morning. After letting the dog out and
washing my hands, I wolfed them down and went back upstairs to brush my hair. I checked to make
sure I had everything I needed for school, even though I had already checked the night before, and
grabbed my keys to drive to school. "Just another normal drive", I thought as I hit every red light on

Analysis Of Sylvia 's ' The Night '
Heat beating out for her chest Sylvia was running for her life. Her feet pounded on the ground as she
sprinted down the alleyway. Sylvia was trying to escape the darkshadow fast in pursuit when she
suddenly lost her footing on Thai place's trash. She hit the dingy pavement and turned to her
pursuer. The dark shadowy figures loomed over her.
Friday the 13th started out like any other Friday morning. Sylvia dragged herself out bed with the
little comfort knowing that it was finally Friday. The weekend would soon be at hand and she could
leave behind the struggles of school. She got dressed, putting on her favorite pair of dark blue jeans
with a simple black tee. Sylvia pulled back her long silvery hair into a rushed french braid. Then, as

"Hey, we were just trying to bring some life to this dead, dark morning." replied Loretta still getting
her laughter under control.
"I know but still it wasn 't funny, I thought you were someone else, something else" Sylvia said
looking a bit paranoid. This morning wasn 't the first time she thought she was being watched.
"Oh come on ,lighten up, it's Friday and the weekend will soon be at hand," said Nate jumping
around the parking lot heading into the school. "And I thought you said we were going downtown"
he added.
"We won 't be going anywhere if we don 't make it to first period," Rosalie said, grabbing Sylvia by
the arm and dragging her into the building, so they wouldn 't be late for first period.
First period was a utter drag per usual, Mr. Brimbin could put anyone to sleep why he dragged on

something was watching her. After that period of torture was over the day went by fairly quick.
Soon it was lunch and she was on her way to hang out with her friends in one of the less traveled
hallways. They all never much liked the lunchroom, so at lunch they took refuge in the hallway

made it to the hallway first and decided to make herself comfortable. Putting her bag down on the

Understanding Weaknesses Of The Four Day Workweek
Understanding Weaknesses of the Four–Day Workweek
Four–day workweek, like the name suggests, calls for replacing the five eight–hour days with four
ten–hour days without changes in hourly earnings or weekly earnings. Therefore, the same number
of hours of work and leisure are provided at the same earnings. The concept of a compressed
workweek is not new, even if it is not the norm for most jobs. Proposals to reduce weekly hours of
work, a major concern of American labor in the early years of century, are again a serious concern to
many people. The 2008 National Study of Employers, released by the Families and Work Institute,
found that 38 percent of US firms allow a compressed workweek for some employees. Eight percent
permit it for all or most employees (Gardner). When a growing number of employers are
considering converting to a compressed four–day workweek, it is important to understand positives
and negatives of the new work schedule, to analyze a specific example of company that have failed
in converting to the new policy, and to understand additional factors to consider before the
implementation of the new policy.
An advantage brought to employers is that the four–day workweek helps companies save money
incurred on daily operation. When employees cram 40 hours of work into four days, companies can
save energy bills by closing for an extra one day per week. For example, in 2009, Utah became the
first state to institute an official four–day workweek for all state

Why Do More Weekend Activities Are Necessary
Why More Weekend Activities are Necessary
When walking around campus on the weekends, whether the weather is nice or not, you encounter
very few people if any. You can't help wondering where everyone is. You ponder maybe they went
home or they are going off campus with their friends to go to the mall or party. It is not beneficial
that numerous people leave campus on the weekends. If students stay on campus, they are cooped
up in their dorm rooms all day not wanting to leave. A major aspect of college besides acquiring an
education is getting to be social and connect with your school and the people around you. That is not
even possible, despite the fact that you hardly ever run across a good deal of people. The fact is,
Walsh University does not provide nearly enough weekend activities to keep students on campus.
Weekend activities need to be provided not only for the social aspect, but for an abundance of more
reasons. Students can be creative and relieve some of their weeks stress through activities.
Furthermore, students can obtain some physical activity or even learn some leadership skills.
Having a movie night each Friday night, hosting parties that don't involve alcohol, or even putting
on a Dodgeball tournament in the gym, can help keep students on campus. Providing more activities
will help keep students on campus and involved; in view of the fact that, then there will be activities
to do and they will be kept busy while having fun. Walsh University needs to

Do You Ever Stop And Think About How Much Of Your Life Is...
Do you ever stop and think about how much of your life is actually yours? How many days of your
life do you get to choose what you get to do? Let's look at the average American's working life.
Most people start full time work at 22 years old and retire at 66. They work all day during the week
and usually are too tired after work to do much. So let's focus on the weekends. 2 days of the
weekend x 52 weeks a year, add on 10 days of vacation + 9 official government holidays. This
comes out to 123 days of your own life a year. If we multiply this by 44 years of working, this
equates to 5,412 days where you get to choose what you get to do. 5,412/365 days in a year is
approximately 15 years. 15 out of 44 years are yours. But if you're like most people, you probably
answer work emails on the weekends and are always connected. So that number of 15 years is even
lower. Does this sound good to anyone? (Pepper)
When I first read those numbers, it was a complete eye opener. It is absolutely unbelievable that so
much of our lives are spent away from our families and the things we love doing. What is even more
unbelievable is that spending so much time at work is unnecessary in the 21st century. 200 years ago
when one had to farm all day to provide for their family, sure, a 10 hour workday made sense. But
now? We have the technology to do many of the menial tasks that used to burden us. Not only is the
long work week unnecessary, it is damaging to our health and our

Going On Vacations In My Life
Going on vacation is supposed to a relaxing, stress–free experience, especially during a long
weekend when a monday away from school can be an indispensable time to relax and enjoy a break
from the grind of AP classes and 40–minute prompts. Therefore, my family and I decided it would
be great to spend the long Columbus day weekend in New Hampshire with my grandparents and
cousins. My family has made this voyage probably over a hundred times in the 17 years I've been
alive, enjoying weekends and school breaks with the rest of my family. The weekend kicks off with
a tedious five–hour journey up Route 93, speeding by the commotion of the bustling metropolis of
Boston and the endless lush plains of rural New Hampshire. We settle in for the night, spend time
with family, eat pizza, watch movies, and go to bed. Saturday consists of more of the same, doing
typical fall activities like apple picking and hayrides while spending time with my cousins and
uncles. The weekend is shaping up to be a completely normal fall family weekend and it was, at
least until sunday morning. Who knew that this weekend was about to go awry when I went to do
something as simple as take my dog for a walk? Our grandparents house is surrounded by miles of
pure forest, one of the most beautiful elements of autumn. Endless lengths of luxuriant, golden
leaves swallowed the canopy, lining the brilliant sunday morning sky and reflecting off the
immobile lakes clearer than the finest glass. The early autumn

American Dream Essay : Poverty And The American Dream
Poverty and the American Dream Elijah Travis Florida State University Position Statement The
notion that only twenty percent of Americans believe in the American dream should not be a big
surprise. The American dream in practice is dead, however this does not mean workers are lazy. It
isn't exactly a lack of faith that leads to the undermining of our democratic system, but it is the cold
fact that the American dream is impossible for most Americans. The concept that in our current
system the harder an individual works the less benefits they receive; therefore, they earn a lower net
income this leads to people being discouraged by our economic system. The idea of Alienation leads
to a social disconnect between laborers and their work, which can be disheartening and
misconstrued as laziness. In our capitalistic society, we have become incredibly efficient at
producing goods; so much so that the demand for work has decreased. This leads to a decrease in
wages and an increase in unemployment. These three reasons are why the American dream is
ceasing to exist. Evidence The current American economic system is one in which our economic
crises are not as in the past crises of shortage, but are in fact crises of surplus. Our society has
become so efficient at producing goods that it undermines the structure in which those goods were
produced and creates a collapse in the market. Our technology has become so incredibly efficient
that we do not need everybody to work. People are

The Beginning and the End of the Weekend
The Beginning and the End of the Weekend.
Before the 1870's, the week end was just that. Week end. The week end was Saturday night, not
Sunday. Sunday was considered the first day of the week, not the week end, week–end or weekend.
It was not for work or fun, it was for worship, a day of rest. Now It's "week days and weekend", as
Rybczynski points out in Waiting for the Weekend (35). We call the first day of the week, Monday,
but it is in fact, Sunday.
There was no such thing as the weekend as we know it until the 1870's. Workers put in up to 16
hours a day, 7 days a week, according to Krissy Clark's, A Weekend History Lesson, labor
organizers worked with the government to get shorter hours and better working conditions and
better pay. These kinds of changes did not easily come back then, some protesters lost their lives for
publicly speaking about it and others in riots. Men were insisting on having time to do whatever
they wanted, whether it be with their families, get more education or just leisure according to
historian Michael Feldberg from Clark. Clark also points out a bumper sticker made by artist
Ricardo Levins Morales that says "The labor movement. The folks who brought you the weekend."
The weekend was actually brought about by several things: The unions coming in, pushing for what
history.com calls "a working man's holiday." In the 1870's there just happened to be a lot of Jewish
immigrants working in the factories as well and their day of the

Bulls, Bears and Golden Calves: A Thorough Overview With a...
John Stapleford's book, Bulls, Bears, and Golden Calves, provides a thorough overview with a
Christian perspective of economic and ethical analysis. He reviews the moral challenges of macro,
micro, and international economic issues. Stapleford covers a variety of important public policy
issues such as self–interest, economic efficiency, and private property rights. He begins the book by
laying a foundation of ethical thought and an analytical framework. Stapleford provides a Biblical
perspective on the practical issues facing our current society. For example, there are three billion
people in the world who live on less than $2 a day (Stapleford, 2009). The wealthy Americans
continue to get richer. The greed and lawlessness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains property rights, their practical need in our society, and the Biblical and ethical
implications. Stapleford places great emphasis on the blend of ethics and economics
In the beginning of the book, he says "ethics is inexorably intertwined with economic life and
analysis" (Stapleford, 2009). Stapleford presents a strong analysis of economic issues with a
Christian perception that aligns with Biblical truths. He urges his audience to avoid the temptation
of idolatry and materialism but to live a selfless life of sacrifice. Stapleford claims that "there is
sanctity in all of labor, and without God's involvement human labor is futile. In whatever we do,
Christians are to do it heartily as unto the Lord, for we do not labor for the food that perishes but for
the food that endures to everlasting life" (Stapleford, 2009).
The theme of overemployment is a current problem in the United States. Americans are overworked.
Workload has increased and society has experienced a loss of leisure. Overemployment and
overworked can be defined as negative effects that occur when individuals are required to work
more hours than they want to work. "Personal perceptions of workload are critical, as individuals
have diverse reactions to the number of hours worked depending on their needs, lifestyle,
expectations, and experiences. Individuals have different tolerances for demands and stress. While

The Summation Of Stress Occurrences Essay
Stress at work typically is not felt from a single occurrence. The summation of stress occurrences
lead to stressors. Stressors are defined as an event or context that elevates levels of adrenaline
forcing a physical or mental response. There typically is a "straw that broke the camels back"
philosophy that builds negative stress (Bauer and Erdogan page 138). Furthermore, our world is
rapidly changing. The world becoming a global economy, rapidly changing technology, and
increased competition between business is changing roles and expectations. Negative stress is often
the result of a combination of undefined roles, rapidly changing technology, group, family, and
social influences. As the global economy, technology, and business competition increase, our roles
and expectations are rapidly changing and evolving to accommodate these needs. Many changes
have been beneficial. Changes like these also have brought unintended consequences. More than
ever companies need to deliver goods are services leaner, have competitive advantage, and cheaper.
This need can blur the lines expectations and accountabilities. This can build into unclear
expectations which can grow role ambiguity. Having unclear defined expectations leads to who is
accountable for what role. This can grow role conflict. Having unclear expectations can lead to role
overload. Role overload is defined as having not enough time and resources to fulfill a given task.

It Is Shocking How Many Things We Take For Granted
It is shocking how many things we take for granted. We plan out our day, and don 't think twice
about how those plans can be taken away or changed in the blink of an eye. I never thought much
about it personally, until I was faced with the surprise, and undeniable truth of my friend's death. I
don 't think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with the dreadful news.
No one ever thinks that something that heartbreaking or shocking would happen to them; no one
really puts themselves in a catastrophic scenario. Losing someone who can't be replaced by anyone
else is probably the hardest thing a person has to overcome.

NHS After Strike: A Case Study
Can we really trust the NHS after the recent junior doctor strike? Dr Ethan Copeland explains.
It has been an ongoing problem for the last 3 years, and is continuing to make front page news. If
you haven't heard about the junior doctor's strike then you've either been living under a rock or
you're part of the BNP, who have still failed to recognise the issue. In total, there are over 55,000
junior doctors in England – representing a third of the medical workforce. So how can our NHS
possibly function when strike after strike is reducing our staff and as a result our patients care?
In credit of recent events, I spoke to Cambridge graduate and F2 medical student Ethan Copeland,
who has been a proud supporter of the strikes since 2014. During the interview I asked him his
thoughts on the current cutbacks, constant barrage of the NHS and the long hours that he fears are
putting junior doctors at risk.
Ministers and junior doctors are locked in an increasingly tense quarrel in England. But what exactly
is the row about?
For me, it is about the new contract that has been brought out. It's appalling and unjust to force us to

possibly the busiest weekend shifts are being overlooked. On top of that, most of us are annoyed as
our guaranteed pay increases related to time in the job are also going to be scrapped and replaced

Positive Effects Of Four Day Workweek
Work–life balance has been a popular topic for employees across all age and occupations for years,
representing a rising concern of contemporary human resource management and labor policies. This
topic has attracted the attention from the millennium generation, who is stepping into the market and
beginning to grow a career. Therefore considering the increasing demand, well–designed workforce
planning with diverse scheduling options offered to employees appears to be extra credits for most
companies. This research paper aims to communicate the positive effects of four–day workweek,
and providing support for why employers should adopt this schedule for employees and themselves
through 1) introducing background and history of four–day workweek as a work schedule option
and 2) demonstrating benefits of four–day workweek from both employer and employees'
perspectives.
Background and History of Four–day Workweek Schedule
Before introducing the workplace issues related to the development of four–day workweek, a clear
definition of this schedule is needed. According to Department of Labor (n.d.), "A workweek is a
fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 hours, or seven consecutive 24–hour periods. The
workweek does not have to coincide with the calendar week, but instead it may begin on any day of
the week and at any hour of the day." It might be the "four–day, 32–hour workweek – more leisure,
less work" (Wernette 1), or the "three–day, 40 hour, compressed work week" that Vega

A Research Conducted On Hope And The Workplace
Critique #1 Reichard, Avey, Lopez and Dollwet (2013) systematically reviewed empirical research
conducted on hope and the workplace. The studies that were incorporated in the meta–analysis
totaled 11,139 participants from 45 independent samples. The studies were collected by doing an
electronic search on academic databases and also by directly contacting journals and authors.
Selections were based on their quantitative measures between hope and work–related outcomes. A
coding protocol was developed and the r statistic was chosen as the effect size on determining the
correlation between hope and work outcomes. The results of the analysis indicated that hope had a
positive moderate correlation with job satisfaction (mean ρ = 0.37), organizational commitment
(mean ρ = 0.31), work performance (mean ρ = 0.27) and health and well–being (mean ρ = 0.44).
There was also a negative moderate relationship between hope and burnout and stress (mean ρ = –
0.35). Based on these observed correlations, there was a higher probability of employees
experiencing successful job performance and health and well–being when there were high levels of
hope. Therefore, the researchers recommended that organizations invest in the development of
employee hope because it was highly correlated to positive work outcomes (Reichard, Avey, Lopez,
& Dollwet, 2013). A limitation in this meta–analysis is that many of the studies involved mostly
Caucasian participants residing the United States. Hence, the findings

Key Club Research Paper
Hi, Ms. Hitchens!
I'm President of Chatfield's Key Club. At our last officer meeting, my fellow officers expressed
interest in setting up a booth for the bonfire to raise both awareness and money for the Eliminate
project. I'm extremely passionate about this project and can go on a rant about it, but I'll try my
absolute hardest to give you a quick little summary:
The Eliminate project is our main service project that Key Club International is focusing on this
year, and we have been dedicated to this project since it began five years ago. Kiwanis (who
sponsors Key Club) and UNICEF formed a partnership to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus
(MNT) from the face of the planet. Primarily in countries with poor birthing conditions, tetanus
spores (found in soil everywhere) may infect open wounds, infecting the umbilical cord and causing
the newborn to contract MNT. Known to be the seven–day death, the baby suffers from excruciating
convulsions and an extreme sensitivity to light, sound, and touch, preventing even a mother's
comfort. Every eleven minutes, a newborn dies from MNT. However, it only costs $1.80 to provide
the necessary vaccination that will protect a mother and all of her future children, saving a family
from being torn apart. Great progress has been made already. Key Club has helped Kiwanis and

Job Experience Essay
Nearly seven years ago, when I started working for the local DirecTV installation company, it wasn't
exactly a dream come true. I had the aptitude for it, having worked previously as a home theatre
installer back in Kansas City, but this job was much easier by comparison. What made this job less
than desirable were the hot attics, damp crawlspaces where I wasn't always the only thing crawling
around and the loose eaves near ideal dish mounting locations that were often home to swarms of
hornets.
Less than a week into the job I was offered a promotion of sorts. They needed inspectors to verify
that things were done correctly at several installation locations each week and they wanted someone
who hadn't been around long enough to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best part of this situation for me was the pay. I was making $12.50 per inspection. That's over
$1500 per week! Despite the great pay, I had been unemployed for nearly a month before starting
this job and because of tool costs to get started hadn't taken home much during my first week as an
installer. The first paycheck I received had an error in it. I was told by my Manager at the Paducah
Office to call the corporate office and talk to payroll directly and they would handle it. I regularly
heard new employees being told, "Call payroll and ask for an advance", not just due to pay errors,
but also to cover the startup costs of tools and ladders. This advice would soon lead to disaster.
For the first time in several months I was going to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my daughter for the
weekend. I had received one puny paycheck and one nice one, but had spent everything to get
caught up on bills that had accumulated during my unemployment. So, I did what experience and
observation had taught me to do, I called payroll and asked for a relatively small advance to cover
my weekend trip. Without incident a check showed up at the office the next day and my wife and I
were off for a fun weekend with my daughter. It wasn't until late the next week that all hell began to
break loose.

Working For A Business Or Starting A New One Essay
"Working for a business or starting a new one "is a debatable issue that has been raging for many
decades, with no end in sight. In the simplest form some people don't prefer to be controlled by
someone or routine work and some others can accept that! They don't prefer to take a risk of starting
their own businesses. Opposers suggest that you 'll actually consider the beginning of your startup to
a greater extent a side interest than a living, and you 'll be less inspired to sustain it to realization.
Instead of being inspired by the swim–or–sink nature of small size business, your well–being net
will keep you from completely rationally putting resources into your undertaking. Taking work at
your beginning can likewise negatively affect your execution at your full–time job. In the case that
you find yourself occupied with new thoughts or staying up throughout the night to finish some
tasks at some feature of the business, you won 't have the capacity to give your full thoughtfulness
regarding your occupation. In the end, your bosses will see, and you could end up losing your well–
being net out and out. Alternately, on the off chance that you can juggle both enterprise and a full–
time work, your family and individual lives might endure. All things considered, if your just time to
deal with your side business is on weeknights and weekends, when will you invest energy with
loved ones? It 's a noteworthy weight to tackle both without a moment 's delay. Numerous

What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality

  • 1. What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality Today, the world is not doing as well as people would like: gender equality has yet to be achieved, climate change is putting millions at risk, two–hundred million people are unemployed, and people are more stressed than ever. Trying to solve these world challenges, people are working more and more hours, yet little progress is being made. The solution is rather simple: work less. Women around the world are under–represented in the workforce, making up less than 20% of CEO positions, and, in America, fewer than 20% of Congressional positions are filled by women. Reasons for this lack of representation may be due to prejudice, but it is important to recognize that women are viewed as the primary child caregiver in most families. For this reason, many women take off work for several months after childbirth and are often thwarted from higher positions because they take leave. If both males and females had shorter work weeks, then both genders would be able to devote more time to child care, allowing women to continue to work sooner and progress in their fields. In addition, studies have shown that men who take paternity leave are more devoted to their families and are 50% more likely to help their wives with domestic labor, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Thus, the shorter work week would lead to both equal representation in the work place and at home, subsequently, breaking the barriers of gender inequality. Shorter work weeks will not only benefit parents, but they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Factors Affecting Labor Productivity And Their Affect... Q1. Factors affecting Labor productivity and their affect levels? Ans. The Factors that can affect the labor productivity are discussed below:– 1. Overtime is the major factor that can affect the productivity rate. Planning of expanded work days or weeks surpassing a standard eight–hour work day or 40–hour work week brings down work yield and productivity through physical weariness and poor mental demeanor. 2. Joint ownership: – This happens when work is booked using a similar office or work range that must be shared or possessed by more than one specialty, and not foreseen in the first offer or plan. 3. Beneficial occupancy:– This is an aftereffect of working over, around, or in nearness to different specialties, proprietor 's faculty, or generation hardware, which may bring about commotion confinements, tidy, or different risky hazard. This may likewise forestall or cause get to limitations. 4. Errors and Omissions:– Increments in errors and omissions affect on work profitability since changes are then ordinarily performed on a crash premise, out of grouping, cause weakening of supervision, or whatever other negative effects. 5. Crew size inefficiency: – This is the point at which the ideal group size is modified by including or erasing team individuals. At the point when specialists are included or erased from a group, it separates the first collaboration and beat of the team and results in loss of profitability. 6. Logistics:– Deficient or poor material handling, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Navy Uniforms Case Study Financial Burden to Maintain Uniforms Navy uniforms are some of the most striking and recognizable symbols of honor and tradition around the world. Whether in dress blues, dress whites or khakis, the men and women who dawn the Navy uniform wear it with pride and distinction. Senior Enlisted Leaders must be aware of available organizational clothing and maximize Sailor usage to minimize the financial burden on members. This paper will cover the background of the Navy's uniform requirements and the financial burden required to maintain them, offer discussion on the impact it has on personnel and recommendations for mitigating these impacts. Problem The U.S. Navy provides an initial issue of uniforms to all members upon accession into the service, however the work schedule and working environment reduces wear life. The problem is Sailors are forced to pay the high cost of maintaining and replacing uniforms required for daily use. The U.S. Navy provides 3 sets of Navy Working Uniforms (NWU) and 2 sets of Navy Service Uniforms (NSU) (NAVPERS 15665I). This allotment does not meet the daily use requirements nor are they durable enough to endure the rigors of the work environment and required laundering. The next topic will focus on a discussion about maintenance of the working uniforms attributing to the financial burden our Service Members and their families incur. Discussion Navy manpower requirements are based on mission requirements and are set forth in OPNAVINST ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Flexitime Essay Nowadays many people manage to apply a broad methodology in running their own career under a preferable time–frame. There are wider approaches on having an ideal working system that could enable the best practice of working which leads toward an excellent outcome. Many industries continue to the nine to five work hours whilst others prefer flexitime. The 9–5 job is still very familiar with some industries. However, the balance in dealing with career and family life is an issue that concerns both employees and industries. Employees who have a balance between career and life are likely to be more satisfied with their life rather than those who only focus on work. Therefore, work and life balance would greatly enable productivity and ensure an employment arrangement that enables positive office morale. One of the best ways to enable employees to reach a good balance between career and family life is through flexitime. Hawks explained flexitime as "a work schedule that requires employees to be present for predetermined core hours but allows them the flexibility to vary the rest of their schedule based on their needs and preferences" (2014, para. 2). Flexible schedule originated in Germany in 1967 (Ministry of Manpower, 2001). It aimed to mitigate the commuting issue and in 1972, being introduced to the United States by the Hewlett– Packard Company (Stafco, 2014). Flexitime is widely known as a flexible work option. This system involves 40 hours of a work week, but these hours ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Reasons Why Junior Doctors Are Striking Seven days a week. More unsociable working hours. Extra premiums on weekends will be lowered. These are the main reasons why junior doctors are striking. This is only a handful of the drastic changes that the Secretary of Health, Jeremy Hunt has imposed since being appointed in 2012. It is very transparent as to why junior doctors choose to strike however there are drawbacks to doctors striking. This project will help to uncover how this new working contract is affecting junior doctors to an extent where they feel as though striking is appropriate. There will be an evaluation of whether the striking is worth taking part in and whether it is a dangerous to strike on working days. Finally, a conclusion will be draw alongside a solution for both parties: the Government and junior doctors. The primary issue of the newly proposed contracts is the increase in working hours and the cuts on extra premiums. For instance, currently in the normal contract, sociable hours are 7am–7pm Monday to Friday. The new proposal by the government extends sociable hours to Monday to Friday 7am–8pm and on Saturday an additional 7am–5pm shift. Altogether that accumulates to 11 extra hours of work in one week. However, there has been an increase in basic salary by 13.5%. Nonetheless, junior doctors believe that this has very little benefit to them. Rather the new contract is making them feel more fatigued. Dagan Lonsdale who is a junior doctor believes, "tired doctors make mistakes." He thinks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Why The Eight Hour Workdays Are Sufficient Eight Hour Workdays Are Sufficient I do not think they should change the law from an eight hour workday to six hour workdays. Everyone is used to their usual 9–5 jobs(or whatever it may be). It has been the normal routine for years. If you don't want to work a full 40 hour job then you should have a part–time job. If workers could get all of the work done in the six hour shift then there should be no need for overtime. I understand the issue of getting hours cut but, it is a plus for all workers to have more time to spend doing what they want on their "free time". Companies should be willing to give the option of either eight or six hours days. Whomever would wish to stay and make up the extra hours and money should be able to do ... • 13. Benefits Of Working A Four Day Work Week The idea of only working a four–day work week sounds appealing to most people and I don't blame them for liking the idea. The idea brings upon great benefits like, saving money on commuting costs, companies will save money on operating expenses, and many more things that can catch your attention. It all looks great on paper or when you hear it on a television special showing how people are enjoying life in countries that have adapted this work ideology. For many of us that do work a full time job, working an eight hour day is tough as it is. When asked to stay for a an hour , usually you're not going to be as productive or carry a high morale as you did in the previous dreaded 8 hours of work. It's hard to imagine being able to enjoy doing that for four consecutive days a week working a ten–hour workday. Like many things they seem great on paper, but only time and results tell the dark truth of a doomed idea. Recession makes people think about how money is spent and how certain budgets can be managed. The four–day work week in Oakland County which is right outside of Detroit, MI was a plan in reaction to rising gas prices. About 450 employees signed on to this idea to avoid a pay cut, they were also saving money on not having to commute a day out of the week to work which is an environmental benefit also. Oakland was not the only place to try out this idea. 17,000 state employees in Utah were scheduled to work a trial program which consisted of them only working Monday ... We cashiers are able to take orders, make ice–cream, clean up, and make sure that the customer area stays clean. When I get to work, I clock in first and wash my hands at the hand washing sink. Next, I sign my name in the "Red Book" and look at the daily chores that need to be completed. Before I start on the chores, I check the screen to make sure that no ice–cream needs to be made. If I go straight to doing the chores, I check the ice, make sure the candies are stocked, clean the customer area, and make sure that the condiment station is stocked. We want the type of life that does not involve numbers, and clients. We want to replace those with birthday parties and time with loved ones. Every hard working employed person looks forward to their vacation, a time to relax and step away from the office. It does not mean that we are not dedicated to our jobs, just that we merely need that down time to be human beings. However, we continue to give our all to our employers, even at the expense of our family. It is not necessary for Americans to work over a 40–hour workweek because if we were able to spend more time with our families and have a better quality of life with a decrease in stress and health problems, society would benefit greatly. There is a good chance that we are all guilty of overworking. We often neglect our families, our diets, our stress level, and most of all, our sanity. We are so tired that we do not have the energy to keep up with our daily duties. Our laundry and dishes pile up, and we can't find that small amount of time to take our kids to the park. We lost track of what a real vacation felt like, because if for some small reason we actually took days off work, we spend them catching up on the areas we have fallen behind in. The question is why? Nowhere is this more apparent than in the life of a college professional, or someone who attends a job while going to college. Many struggle going to long work weeks to be able to afford their bills while they also going to school for hope of a better future. This is something relatable to a great deal of young Americans, and something that is becoming more common place in our older generations that later in life are choosing to advance their education. Between the exams, essays, late nights and long days how does one have time to forgo all these proceedings while simultaneously maintaining a social life? • 23. 4-Day School Week It's no secret that high school students abhor Mondays. The weekend is never long enough, and often students don't feel refreshed by Monday morning. However, some schools across America are giving students an extra day to their weekend – Mondays. Districts are giving students 3 day weekends while giving teachers Monday to plan and attend meetings and workshops to improve their classroom experience. All schools should switch to a 4–day school week because it gives students more time for private studying and refreshing, as well as allowing teachers time to improve their teaching skills and incorporate new things like technology into their lessons. • 25. Advantages Of A 40 Hour Work Week One hour a day, two days a week. Pitter Pitter Pitter. "Meet George Jetson...." Creators of the show The Jetsons imagined that in the future, American workers such as George Jetson would hardly work in a given week, even as little as one hour a day, two days a week. A less extreme prediction by British economist John Maynard Keynes predicted in 1930 that in the year 2030, workers will only only work about 15 hours per week. (Bregman) If asked whether they would want to work longer hours or have more free time, most Americans today would want more free time. If a shorter work week is so appealing, then why do we still put up with a 40 hour work week? Where is George Jetson? As evidence from multiple other countries has shown, a shorter week could reduce unemployment, improve productivity, and increase mental health standards, and the United States should discard the current 40 hours a work system in exchange for a shorter, more practical one. The current idea of a 40 hour work week has roots in American factories in the early 1900s. In addition to their poor working conditions, American factory workers worked long hours. (Ortiz) Workers formed labor unions, including the National Labor Union which advocated for "eight hours for work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will." (Eberhardt) Even some businesses agreed that the work week was too long, including the Ford Motor Company. In 1914, Henry Ford scaled back his company's work week from 48 hours to 40 hours ... • 27. Narrative Essay On Sooulsca Place This weekend was one of the best weekends I've had in College. This weekend I attended something called SOULscape, a 2 day program about your life; purpose, vulnerability and gratitude. SOULscape took place at Minnowbrook Conference Center, near Blue Mountain Lake. I first heard about SOULscape through a friend of mine. She sent me a link to the application and it seemed amazing, so I applied. A few days ago, I got an email saying that spots this year were full, but I was placed on the alternate list. I wasn't sad or upset about it because I hadn't really given it much thought. On Thursday, October 20th, I received an email saying that a few spots had opened up and if I was still interested in going. I went through the e–brochure and website ... As people spoke about serious issues like self harm, mental health and depression as reasons for themselves, I began questioning my reason for being there. It made me come closer with reality. It made me realize that things like violence, abuse, self harm that I read about are actually real issues that people struggle with. That moment I realized that, that experience was going to be extremely enriching. I wasn't afraid to open up about why I was there, I spoke about anxiety and how I sometimes struggled with anxiety. In his book, Student Ministry and the Supremacy of Christ, Richard Ross states "the goal of student ministry is students who, for the glory of the Father and in the power of the Spirit, spend a lifetime embracing the full supremacy of the Son, responding to His majesty in all of life, inviting Christ to live His life through them, and joining Him in making disciples among all peoples." • 31. Reflection Paper On Retreat We trudged up the rigid, brown steps, knowing that the unknown was ahead. We were on our way, traveling down the empty highways to northwest New Jersey. It was a mandatory retreat to get to know our new peer mentor partners, who we would work with once a month for the next year. 23 Birch Ridge Road, Hardwick, NJ was the destination. Camp Mason was the place that we'd spend our next two days on Mother's Day weekend. The retreat has changed my life and I am better because it allowed me to realize that nothing is ever as bad as I think it is and it can always be worse. As we settled in on the campground that was filled with puddles and puddles of water all over the ground, we all realized that we had a long weekend ahead of us. We dropped all of our suitcases off in the cabins and proceeded on to the main lodge, with no expectations for what was next. The instructors split us up into two groups and then it began. Luckily, my friends Michael, Justin, and Rupak were in my group with me. It started off with an ice breaker activity before, which consisted of everyone trudging around the room, hoping that the activity would soon be over. Once it finally ended, everyone prayed that the next activity would be at least slightly better. We started to walk out, but before we could leave we passed by another one of the groups. As expected, everyone tried to procrastinate for as long as possible, discussing how terribly their days started. We talked for as long as we could before the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then one weekend, I came face–to–face with the disgusting monsters, rearing their hateful heads; capable of momentarily depleting love within a blink of the eye. Because of my shocking encounter, I am now cognizant of the ignorance that persists in the world. A valuable yet life–changing lesson in racism and the effects of stereotyping influenced the way I approach the world today. However, still optimistic and waiting impatiently for the day when the human race becomes accepting of one another... the hurtful lessons learned will always remain. "Oh sorry honey, Mommy's got some important things to sort through at work today." She leaned down and kissed her young daughter on the cheek before quickly exiting the day care center and rushing to her SUV, ready to start another long day at work. Margot looked around at all the children. They were rushing to the toys scattered across the room, unknowingly running away from their parents who were blowing kisses and saying goodbye for the day. She felt a faint jolt of jealousy pinch her heart. She never even had the chance to run toward the toys, away from her mom who would be blowing kisses. Her mom had always ran away first before she had the chance. "Okay gather around children! The skies were beautiful this weekend! What did you all do?" Ms. Anissa beamed at the children gleefully. "Oh! Oh! Ms. Aneeza!" Little Bradley began, mispronouncing their day care leader's name, as usual. "Daddy took me out to the park! Some people think that living in a small town is peaceful because they feel much closer to the nature, while the others choose to live in a big city because of its entertainment such as cinemas, shopping centers, club, and concerts. Also, there are several similarities between small town and a big city which is history, mission, vision, values, and goals to make their place become much better. However, most people still do not know how to decide whether they want to live in a small town or a big city and one of the ways to solve this is to compare them at several points. Living in a big city can be very different from a small town. Since there are a lot of opportunities to find a job in a big city, most people have their own variety of occupations. • 39. The Importance Of A Four Day Work Introduction The definition of a four day work week varies depending who you are talking to. It can refer to four eight hour days; four ten hour days; or even four twelve to fourteen hour days. However all variations of a four day work week fall under the umbrella term "alternative work arrangement." This term refers to any work schedule that varies from the standard five, eight hour work day that the majority of the United States population is used to (Bird 1063). For the purposes of this paper I will be talking about a compressed four day work week, not a shortened four day work week or extended four day work week, this refers to a four hour work week I will be talking about a schedule that consists of four, ten hour days, which is still a full forty hour work week. I will be taking a close look at the benefits and drawback to both the employer and the employee when it comes to working a four day work week. In addition to looking at the benefits to those directly related, the employer and employee, I will also touch on some benefits to those who are indirectly benefited; which refers to the general population. At first glance it would appear to many people that a four day work week is not different than a standard five day work week; after all the same number of hours are being work at weeks end. So, that begs the question why is it that only roughly 960,000 Americans, which is less than 1% of the labor force work a four day work week (Thank God it's Thursday? 74)? ... With the Elders continually being overtaxed with duties, this slowly transitioned to recruited lay– men. Criteria in hand, I developed a multiple–month strategy aimed at attracting new members. Past precedent and best practices with volunteers indicated that that simply putting out bulletin messages was not an effective recruitment tool. Thus, our team's first step was the initiation of several face– to–face challenges to people we knew to consider the ministry. I believe this attempt failed due in part to most of the people that we knew were either already engaged in other ministries, or did not wish to join one. The next phases included requesting the Small Group Ministry to alert their Group Leaders of the opportunity to serve the Church; both individually and/or as a small group. This was closely followed by a similar request to both the Men's, Women's, and High School /Middle School Youth ministries. I requested that if they were willing to get the word out to us to please make it an in– person and personal appeal at their meetings (again, because general "we need help" emails tend to be ineffective). I could never bare the thought of leaving the comfort of my bed to the cold, harsh weather right away, yet alone to come to school. "I can only delay the inevitable" I thought, as I regrettably rolled out of bed to begin the long day ahead. I made my way towards the bathroom to brush my teeth, making sure to say hello to my dog, Gabe, as I passed by. Upon entering the bathroom, I reached for my toothbrush and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My brown hair was a mess as always, but I could barely tell without my glasses on. My hazel eyes pierced the mirror, standing out like a bright light in the dark room, but they were slightly covered by my glasses. I made note of my messy hair as I continued to brush my teeth, and once I was finished, left the room. Upon leaving the bathroom, I went down the stairs to eat breakfast. I looked thoroughly through the fridge, hoping for some easy to make leftovers, but unfortunately none were left. I sighed, and went to make myself bacon and eggs for the morning. After letting the dog out and washing my hands, I wolfed them down and went back upstairs to brush my hair. • 49. Understanding Weaknesses Of The Four Day Workweek Understanding Weaknesses of the Four–Day Workweek Four–day workweek, like the name suggests, calls for replacing the five eight–hour days with four ten–hour days without changes in hourly earnings or weekly earnings. Therefore, the same number of hours of work and leisure are provided at the same earnings. The concept of a compressed workweek is not new, even if it is not the norm for most jobs. Proposals to reduce weekly hours of work, a major concern of American labor in the early years of century, are again a serious concern to many people. The 2008 National Study of Employers, released by the Families and Work Institute, found that 38 percent of US firms allow a compressed workweek for some employees. Eight percent permit it for all or most employees (Gardner). When a growing number of employers are considering converting to a compressed four–day workweek, it is important to understand positives and negatives of the new work schedule, to analyze a specific example of company that have failed in converting to the new policy, and to understand additional factors to consider before the implementation of the new policy. An advantage brought to employers is that the four–day workweek helps companies save money incurred on daily operation. When employees cram 40 hours of work into four days, companies can save energy bills by closing for an extra one day per week. For example, in 2009, Utah became the first state to institute an official four–day workweek for all state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Do More Weekend Activities Are Necessary Why More Weekend Activities are Necessary When walking around campus on the weekends, whether the weather is nice or not, you encounter very few people if any. You can't help wondering where everyone is. You ponder maybe they went home or they are going off campus with their friends to go to the mall or party. It is not beneficial that numerous people leave campus on the weekends. If students stay on campus, they are cooped up in their dorm rooms all day not wanting to leave. A major aspect of college besides acquiring an education is getting to be social and connect with your school and the people around you. That is not even possible, despite the fact that you hardly ever run across a good deal of people. The fact is, Walsh University does not provide nearly enough weekend activities to keep students on campus. Weekend activities need to be provided not only for the social aspect, but for an abundance of more reasons. Students can be creative and relieve some of their weeks stress through activities. Furthermore, students can obtain some physical activity or even learn some leadership skills. Having a movie night each Friday night, hosting parties that don't involve alcohol, or even putting on a Dodgeball tournament in the gym, can help keep students on campus. Providing more activities will help keep students on campus and involved; in view of the fact that, then there will be activities to do and they will be kept busy while having fun. • 53. Do You Ever Stop And Think About How Much Of Your Life Is... Do you ever stop and think about how much of your life is actually yours? How many days of your life do you get to choose what you get to do? Let's look at the average American's working life. Most people start full time work at 22 years old and retire at 66. They work all day during the week and usually are too tired after work to do much. So let's focus on the weekends. 2 days of the weekend x 52 weeks a year, add on 10 days of vacation + 9 official government holidays. This comes out to 123 days of your own life a year. If we multiply this by 44 years of working, this equates to 5,412 days where you get to choose what you get to do. 5,412/365 days in a year is approximately 15 years. 15 out of 44 years are yours. But if you're like most people, you probably answer work emails on the weekends and are always connected. So that number of 15 years is even lower. Does this sound good to anyone? (Pepper) When I first read those numbers, it was a complete eye opener. It is absolutely unbelievable that so much of our lives are spent away from our families and the things we love doing. What is even more unbelievable is that spending so much time at work is unnecessary in the 21st century. 200 years ago when one had to farm all day to provide for their family, sure, a 10 hour workday made sense. But now? We have the technology to do many of the menial tasks that used to burden us. Not only is the long work week unnecessary, it is damaging to our health and our ... Therefore, my family and I decided it would be great to spend the long Columbus day weekend in New Hampshire with my grandparents and cousins. My family has made this voyage probably over a hundred times in the 17 years I've been alive, enjoying weekends and school breaks with the rest of my family. The weekend kicks off with a tedious five–hour journey up Route 93, speeding by the commotion of the bustling metropolis of Boston and the endless lush plains of rural New Hampshire. We settle in for the night, spend time with family, eat pizza, watch movies, and go to bed. Saturday consists of more of the same, doing typical fall activities like apple picking and hayrides while spending time with my cousins and uncles. The weekend is shaping up to be a completely normal fall family weekend and it was, at least until sunday morning. Who knew that this weekend was about to go awry when I went to do something as simple as take my dog for a walk? • 57. American Dream Essay : Poverty And The American Dream Poverty and the American Dream Elijah Travis Florida State University Position Statement The notion that only twenty percent of Americans believe in the American dream should not be a big surprise. The American dream in practice is dead, however this does not mean workers are lazy. It isn't exactly a lack of faith that leads to the undermining of our democratic system, but it is the cold fact that the American dream is impossible for most Americans. The concept that in our current system the harder an individual works the less benefits they receive; therefore, they earn a lower net income this leads to people being discouraged by our economic system. The idea of Alienation leads to a social disconnect between laborers and their work, which can be disheartening and misconstrued as laziness. In our capitalistic society, we have become incredibly efficient at producing goods; so much so that the demand for work has decreased. This leads to a decrease in wages and an increase in unemployment. These three reasons are why the American dream is ceasing to exist. Evidence The current American economic system is one in which our economic crises are not as in the past crises of shortage, but are in fact crises of surplus. Our society has become so efficient at producing goods that it undermines the structure in which those goods were produced and creates a collapse in the market. Our technology has become so incredibly efficient that we do not need everybody to work. People are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. The Beginning and the End of the Weekend The Beginning and the End of the Weekend. Before the 1870's, the week end was just that. Week end. The week end was Saturday night, not Sunday. Sunday was considered the first day of the week, not the week end, week–end or weekend. It was not for work or fun, it was for worship, a day of rest. Now It's "week days and weekend", as Rybczynski points out in Waiting for the Weekend (35). We call the first day of the week, Monday, but it is in fact, Sunday. There was no such thing as the weekend as we know it until the 1870's. Workers put in up to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, according to Krissy Clark's, A Weekend History Lesson, labor organizers worked with the government to get shorter hours and better working conditions and better pay. These kinds of changes did not easily come back then, some protesters lost their lives for publicly speaking about it and others in riots. Men were insisting on having time to do whatever they wanted, whether it be with their families, get more education or just leisure according to historian Michael Feldberg from Clark. Clark also points out a bumper sticker made by artist Ricardo Levins Morales that says "The labor movement. The folks who brought you the weekend." The weekend was actually brought about by several things: The unions coming in, pushing for what history.com calls "a working man's holiday." Stapleford places great emphasis on the blend of ethics and economics In the beginning of the book, he says "ethics is inexorably intertwined with economic life and analysis" (Stapleford, 2009). Stapleford presents a strong analysis of economic issues with a Christian perception that aligns with Biblical truths. He urges his audience to avoid the temptation of idolatry and materialism but to live a selfless life of sacrifice. Stapleford claims that "there is sanctity in all of labor, and without God's involvement human labor is futile. In whatever we do, Christians are to do it heartily as unto the Lord, for we do not labor for the food that perishes but for the food that endures to everlasting life" (Stapleford, 2009). The theme of overemployment is a current problem in the United States. Americans are overworked. Workload has increased and society has experienced a loss of leisure. Overemployment and overworked can be defined as negative effects that occur when individuals are required to work more hours than they want to work. Stressors are defined as an event or context that elevates levels of adrenaline forcing a physical or mental response. There typically is a "straw that broke the camels back" philosophy that builds negative stress (Bauer and Erdogan page 138). Furthermore, our world is rapidly changing. The world becoming a global economy, rapidly changing technology, and increased competition between business is changing roles and expectations. Negative stress is often the result of a combination of undefined roles, rapidly changing technology, group, family, and social influences. As the global economy, technology, and business competition increase, our roles and expectations are rapidly changing and evolving to accommodate these needs. Many changes have been beneficial. Changes like these also have brought unintended consequences. More than ever companies need to deliver goods are services leaner, have competitive advantage, and cheaper. This need can blur the lines expectations and accountabilities. This can build into unclear expectations which can grow role ambiguity. Having unclear defined expectations leads to who is accountable for what role. This can grow role conflict. Having unclear expectations can lead to role overload. This topic has attracted the attention from the millennium generation, who is stepping into the market and beginning to grow a career. Therefore considering the increasing demand, well–designed workforce planning with diverse scheduling options offered to employees appears to be extra credits for most companies. This research paper aims to communicate the positive effects of four–day workweek, and providing support for why employers should adopt this schedule for employees and themselves through 1) introducing background and history of four–day workweek as a work schedule option and 2) demonstrating benefits of four–day workweek from both employer and employees' perspectives. Background and History of Four–day Workweek Schedule Before introducing the workplace issues related to the development of four–day workweek, a clear definition of this schedule is needed. According to Department of Labor (n.d.), "A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 hours, or seven consecutive 24–hour periods. The workweek does not have to coincide with the calendar week, but instead it may begin on any day of the week and at any hour of the day." It might be the "four–day, 32–hour workweek – more leisure, less work" (Wernette 1), or the "three–day, 40 hour, compressed work week" that Vega ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. A Research Conducted On Hope And The Workplace Critique #1 Reichard, Avey, Lopez and Dollwet (2013) systematically reviewed empirical research conducted on hope and the workplace. The studies that were incorporated in the meta–analysis totaled 11,139 participants from 45 independent samples. The studies were collected by doing an electronic search on academic databases and also by directly contacting journals and authors. Selections were based on their quantitative measures between hope and work–related outcomes. A coding protocol was developed and the r statistic was chosen as the effect size on determining the correlation between hope and work outcomes. The results of the analysis indicated that hope had a positive moderate correlation with job satisfaction (mean ρ = 0.37), organizational commitment (mean ρ = 0.31), work performance (mean ρ = 0.27) and health and well–being (mean ρ = 0.44). There was also a negative moderate relationship between hope and burnout and stress (mean ρ = – 0.35). Based on these observed correlations, there was a higher probability of employees experiencing successful job performance and health and well–being when there were high levels of hope. Therefore, the researchers recommended that organizations invest in the development of employee hope because it was highly correlated to positive work outcomes (Reichard, Avey, Lopez, & Dollwet, 2013). A limitation in this meta–analysis is that many of the studies involved mostly Caucasian participants residing the United States. Hence, the findings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Key Club Research Paper Hi, Ms. Hitchens! I'm President of Chatfield's Key Club. At our last officer meeting, my fellow officers expressed interest in setting up a booth for the bonfire to raise both awareness and money for the Eliminate project. I'm extremely passionate about this project and can go on a rant about it, but I'll try my absolute hardest to give you a quick little summary: The Eliminate project is our main service project that Key Club International is focusing on this year, and we have been dedicated to this project since it began five years ago. Kiwanis (who sponsors Key Club) and UNICEF formed a partnership to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the face of the planet. Primarily in countries with poor birthing conditions, tetanus spores (found in soil everywhere) may infect open wounds, infecting the umbilical cord and causing the newborn to contract MNT. Known to be the seven–day death, the baby suffers from excruciating convulsions and an extreme sensitivity to light, sound, and touch, preventing even a mother's comfort. Every eleven minutes, a newborn dies from MNT. However, it only costs $1.80 to provide the necessary vaccination that will protect a mother and all of her future children, saving a family from being torn apart. Great progress has been made already. Key Club has helped Kiwanis and UNICEF eliminate MNT from over twenty countries. If you want to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initiative. Each letter is assigned to each month in the school year, starting in September with "Educate." Chatfield's Key Club officers were hoping we could set up a booth at the bonfire to educate our community about this project and to begin to raise money to save lives. At our next Key Club meeting on September 15, we plan to create a committee to prepare and run the booth. Our Vice President, George Beckwith (who I copied into this email) will lead this ... • 75. Job Experience Essay Nearly seven years ago, when I started working for the local DirecTV installation company, it wasn't exactly a dream come true. I had the aptitude for it, having worked previously as a home theatre installer back in Kansas City, but this job was much easier by comparison. What made this job less than desirable were the hot attics, damp crawlspaces where I wasn't always the only thing crawling around and the loose eaves near ideal dish mounting locations that were often home to swarms of hornets. Less than a week into the job I was offered a promotion of sorts. They needed inspectors to verify that things were done correctly at several installation locations each week and they wanted someone who hadn't been around long enough to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best part of this situation for me was the pay. I was making $12.50 per inspection. That's over $1500 per week! Despite the great pay, I had been unemployed for nearly a month before starting this job and because of tool costs to get started hadn't taken home much during my first week as an installer. The first paycheck I received had an error in it. I was told by my Manager at the Paducah Office to call the corporate office and talk to payroll directly and they would handle it. I regularly heard new employees being told, "Call payroll and ask for an advance", not just due to pay errors, but also to cover the startup costs of tools and ladders. This advice would soon lead to disaster. For the first time in several months I was going to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my daughter for the weekend. I had received one puny paycheck and one nice one, but had spent everything to get caught up on bills that had accumulated during my unemployment. So, I did what experience and observation had taught me to do, I called payroll and asked for a relatively small advance to cover my weekend trip. Without incident a check showed up at the office the next day and my wife and I were off for a fun weekend with my daughter. It wasn't until late the next week that all hell began to break loose. I was on the road somewhere in Southern Illinois when I received an angry call from the district manager inquiring why I had "bypassed" him and gone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Working For A Business Or Starting A New One Essay "Working for a business or starting a new one "is a debatable issue that has been raging for many decades, with no end in sight.
