Himachal Pradesh is a northern
Indian state in the Himalayas. It's
home to scenic mountain towns and
resorts such as Dalhousie. Host to
the Dalai Lama, Himachal Pradesh
has a strong Tibetan presence. This
is reflected in its Buddhist temples
and monasteries, as well as its
vibrant Tibetan New Year
celebrations. The region is also well
known for its trekking, climbing and
skiing areas.
3. HISTORY
Himachal Pradesh was established in 1948 as a Chief Commissioner's
Province within the Union of India. The Himachal History The
province comprised the hill districts around Shimla and southern hill
areas of the former Punjab region. Himachal became a part C state on
26 January 1950 with the implementation of the Constitution of India.
Himachal Pradesh became a Union Territory on 1 November 1956. On
18 December 1970 the State of Himachal Pradesh Act was passed by
Parliament and the new state came into being on 25 January 1971.
Thus Himachal emerged as the eighteenth state of the Indian Union.
4. CULTIVATION
The chief food crops cultivated in
Agriculture in Himachal Pradesh
include wheat, maize, rice, barley, seed-
potato, ginger, vegetables, vegetable
seeds, mushrooms, chicory seeds, hops,
olives, and fig. Himachal Pradesh is also
known as the 'Apple State of India' for its
large-scale production of fruits.
5. WEALTH
At current prices, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of
Himachal Pradesh is estimated to reach Rs 1.82 trillion (US$ 26.04
billion) in 2020-21. The state’s per capita GSDP in 2019-20 was Rs
225,839 (US$ 3,203.85). GSDP will increase at a Compound Annual
Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.76 per cent between 2015-16 and 2020-21.
The tertiary sector witnessed the fastest growth at a CAGR of 12.02
per cent between 2011-12 and 2019-20.
6. DANCE AND MUSIC
Some of the dance forms of Himachal are
Losar Shona Chuksam (Kinnaur), Dangi
(Chamba), Gee Dance and Burah dance,
(Sirmour), Naati, Kharait, Ujagjama and
Chadhgebrikar (Kullu) and Shunto (Lahaul &
Spiti). People of the state generally prefer
folk music.
7. COSTUMES
They wear Ghaghris, Salwar-
Kameez and Cholis. Cholis are the shirts
which are worn on the upper part with a
long skirt and a lot of bangles.
Brahmin women also wear similar clothing
like salwar kameez and ghagra choli.
8. CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
These dances are very vital part of the
tribal life. It reflects the culture and the
tradition of Himachal Pradesh. Hardly any
festivity here is celebrated
without dancing. Some of the dance forms
like Dulshol, Dharveshi, Drodi, Dev
Naritya, Rakshas Nritya, Dangi, Lasa, Nati
and Nagas are danced all over the region.
9. TOURISM
Tourism in Himachal Pradesh relates to tourism in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This is
famous for its Himalayan landscapes and popular hill-stations. Many outdoor activities such as rock
climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, ice-skating, trekking, rafting,and heli-skiing are popular tourist
attractions in Himachal Pradesh.[1]
Until the British reign, tourism in Himachal Pradesh was very limited to a few places around the hills
and some spiritual destinations. The British developed hill stations during their reign one of them
being Shimla which they called The Summer Capital of India. After the British rule, tourism
in Himachal Pradesh was on the rise with the highest number of tourists in the mid 1980s and
1990s.[2]
Shimla, the state capital, is popular among tourists. The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a mountain
railway which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[3] Shimla is also a famous skiing attraction in India.
Other popular hill stations include Manali, Kinnuar, Kasol, Parvati Valley, Chamba, Kullu, Kinnar Kailesh,
and Kasauli.
Dharamshala, home of the Dalai Lama, is known for its Tibetan monasteries and Buddhist temples.
Many trekking expeditions also begin here.
The Ridge is a large road in Shimla which is the centre of most cultural activities of Shimla.

Hailing from a small village called Ghuggar in
the Palampur region of Himachal, he is the
brave army officer of our country who showed
his valour in the Kargil war, 1999. He was
awarded the highest bravery award of the
nation, the Param Veer Chakra posthumously.

personality, Anupam Kher has proved his

Tenzin Gyatso
The Noble Prize winner for peace, Tenzin
Gyatso is the 14th (and the current) Dalai
Lama. He is the highest monk of his
community and well known worldwide for his
advocacy of the Tibetan Buddhism, his
spirituality and his sincere interest in the
modern science.

14. FOOD
They too have lentil, broth, rice, vegetables and bread. As compared to other
states in north India non-vegetarian cuisine is preferred. Traditionally,
Himachali cuisine is dominated by red meat and wheat bread. Thick and rich
gravy, with aromatic spices, is used in abundance as the base of many dishes.
