About the Civil EngineeringDepartment
Civil Engineering as known is the oldest
branch of engineering which comprises of all
activities fulfilling the basic needs of the
human beings. It aims at providing food,
water, shelter, power and transportation.
Civil engineering problems involve physical,
mathematical, life, earth, social,
communication and engineering sciences. It
involves many other professional areas
including architecture, planning, law, public
health, management, sociology, finance and
other branches of engineering.
About NIRM
National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM)
is an autonomous Institute under Ministry of
Mines, Government of India. The Institute
has been developed as a Centre of
Excellence for Rock Engineering. Over the
period of last 35 years, the institute has
provided its expertise to various central,
state government agencies and public sector
undertakings in the field of mining,
hydroelectric projects, nuclear power
projects, oil and gas sectors and various
infrastructure projects including rail, road,
airports, hospital etc. The high quality
services provided by NIRM have found wide
acceptance in the industry. With modern
equipment and a coherent team of
experienced and dedicated scientists, NIRM
combines research activities and consulting
services to provide solutions for a wide
range of rock engineering problems.
About the Lecture Series
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava, NIRM is
organizing series of day-long lecture programs
on the topic, “Role of rock engineering in
nation building” under the theme "Atmanirbhar
Bharat". This lecture series is aimed at
explaining the activities of the Institute through
various flagship projects showcasing the
capabilities and contribution of the Institute in
the nation building exercise. This lecture series
started from March 2023 and will continue till
15th August 2023 with a view to target at least
75 colleges and 15000 students all over India.
Lectures are conducted in physical mode, in the
premises of a host institute with other
institutions joining on-line. Scientists from NIRM
deliver the expert lectures. Both theoretical and
practical aspects of investigations are explained
in this lecture series to make the participants
aware of the real time challenges.
Eligible Participants
Students of civil/ allied engineering disciplines
are eligible to register and participate in this
event. The session will be streamed via Webex
link for students from other Institutes, who are
invited to participate/ join this interactive
session. Each participating institution will be
shared with the Webex link. Students
participating in this lecture series should register
in advance (FREE OF COST) and certificates will
be issued to all participating students.

In 1972, PES was founded in Bangalore with
just over 40 students. Today, PES has more
than 18,000 students spread across four
different campuses in Karnataka and Andhra
Pradesh.
PES University, located in Bangalore is
country’s one of the leading teaching and
research university. The University is
committed to providing “navigation for the
real world” that inspires students to find their
true north. The students graduate with the
ability to adapt to an intellectually and
technologically changing environment. Over
the years, have accomplished this with the
participative efforts of the management,
staff, students and parents. PES University
emerged as the number one University under
the category of New Universities, under 5
years, in Karnataka State Universities Rating
Framework (KSURF) 2019 published. The
applicant universities of the state were
evaluated on the parameters of research
excellence, innovation, teaching excellence,
infrastructure, inclusiveness and social
impact.
