them.
 Build on strength.
 Take a holistic approach.(complete approach)
 Join with the family members as a partner.
 Tailor services to the family.
 Set and monitor specific goals.
 (done by social scientist, mental health
professionals; also known as Home study)
 Questionnaire, interview are used.
 It is a technique used for assessing about the
families.
 A good a family assessment requires good
observation skills and ability to be an active
listener.
 Family functioning assessment and safety
assessment is two functional components within a
safety intervention system.
 In comprehensive functional family assessment,
dept of human services provides a checklist for
assessing family interaction, parental capabilities,
the home environment and a child's wellbeing.
 Purpose is to evaluate and understand a family
 Family functional services identifies families that
are in need of child protective services’
Basic tenants
 Child safety as paramount.
 Permanency as an integral part of child safety.
 Rights ad respect.
