COURSE DESCRIPTION:
To educate nurses, social workers and health care
professionals regarding needs in caring for clients with
psychiatric issues.
PROPOSED COURSE OBJECTIVES:
 Articulate the incidence and prevalence of sexual
abuse in the United States.
 Develop a proactive plan for breaking the silence
around issues of abuse.
 Discuss community resources for victims of sexual
abuse.
 Discuss financial constraints within Louisiana in
relation to caring for psychiatric patients.
 Describe the social, familial, and economic
impact of schizophrenia.
 Identify challenges in finding schizophrenia
susceptibility genes.
 Explain the implications of genetic research for the
care of people with schizophrenia.
