Q: Q: Does the Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 upgrade over existing 11.0.x?
10.2.2?
A: Yes, it is installed over 11.0.x.
Q: How do we install Cognos Transformer?
A: Transformer install has not changed from version 8/10/11.
Q: In 11.0.x, some client tools are 32 bit and some are 64 bit. How is
this handled Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: All Cognos client tools are 32 bit with the exception of DQM and
Dynamic Cubes. There is no change in 11.1.1.
Q: What are the server system requirements for Cognos Analytics
11.1.1?
A: Server requirements can be found in this article: https://www-
01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ibm10735235.

Q: We are on Linux, is the Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 installation process
similar?
A: The install is the same for Linux. Client tools are Windows only, so
you will only be able to install the server software. In addition, check
out our Linux vs. Windows for Cognos Analytics blog at:
https://www.senturus.com/blog/windows-vs-linux-whats-best-with-
cognos-analytics/.
Q: How can we install a ZIP file in Linux, we usually have LIB files?
A: Installer is a BIN file for Linux. You will then select the path and
file for the server software.
Q: Is there a rollback option to/from Cognos Analytics 11.0.8 to
11.1.x?
A: No, make sure you back up your content store and cogstartup.xml.

Q: Is Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 expected to have the constant releases
the same way 11.x did?
A: Yes, the release pattern should be similar.
Q: Are the standard samples and audit a separate download for
Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: Samples are now downloaded from the website and can be found
at:
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSEP7J_11.1.0/
com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.ig_smples.doc/c_install_cog_samples.html.
Q: Can SAML (shibboleth) be used for SSO?
A: We have not tested it, but it should be supported.
Q: Is Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 available for download on-premise now?
A: Yes, Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 was released in late November 2018
for on-premise.

Q. We use Cognos Analytics 11.0.x on-premise, when should we
upgrade to 11.1.1? Sometimes it’s recommended to wait months until
upgrading, how much time would you project it takes to upgrade from
11.0.x to 11.1?
A: If the new features and capabilities are something that you would
like to use today, then we recommend you install it today in a
sandbox to test it. Other than the new Discovery feature, most of the
capabilities are similar to what is in 11.0.X.
Q: What is recommended Windows server operating system version,
and the recommended number of CPUs on the server we should have
to use Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: Windows 2016 would be our recommendation as it is the newest
version. CPU sizing would depend on several factors. Please contact
us at 888 601 6010 ext. 1 if you need help sizing your environment.

Q: Do we need an additional license to use the Watson functionality?
A: No.
Q: Are there any specific features in the admin panel that were
changed in Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: Yes, there are many changes to the admin panel. See our webinar
recording, which discusses this specific topic:

Q: Can we still use jdbc42 driver for SQL server with 11.1.1?
A: Yes, that would be the recommended driver for SQL Server.
Q: Do we need to install SQL Server client on the app server? We have
a different server for content store.
A: Yes, all servers except ones that are gateway only, need database
drivers/clients installed.

Q: Do we need to upgrade Framework Manager if we already have the
FM from the previous 11.0.x?
A: It is always recommended to keep FM updated with the version of
server.
Q: Do the new features in Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 require additional
licenses? And do we need to upgrade our packages for new exploration
feature?
A: No.
Q: It was tough to find what to download for Cognos Analytics 11.1.1,
how do I find the client tools ZIP file and the ZIP file for configuring
IIS?
A: You need the installer, the server ZIP, and client ZIP files.
Q: Can we use CQM packages on Cognos Analytics 11.1?
A: Yes, CQM is still available.

Q: The report and template styles still show as 11.4 style, is there one
available for 11.1.x?
A: Not that we are aware of.
Q: Can we use AS, QS, ES in 11.1?
A: Yes, the legacy tools are still available in 11.1.
Q: Does PowerPlay 11 work with Cognos Analytics 11.1?
A: Yes, you can configure PP to run with CA 11.1.
Q: Is there a way to set permissions to use the exploration feature in
A: It can be disabled in the services area in Cognos configuration or in
the capabilities menu.

Q: I downloaded Cognos Analytics 11.1.1, but I do not see the install
software, just four folders, could you provide me with guidance as to
what to do next?
A: It sounds like you need to download the installer as well, not just
the server ZIP file.
Q: Are there street-level mapping upgrades in Cognos Analytics
11.1.1?
A: There is mapping that can provide street level detail. If you need
help with specific mapping features, please contact us at 888 601
6010 ext. 1.
Q: Do you have any tips for distributed installation in Cognos Analytics
11.1.1?
A: There are many ways to configure this. Please contact us at 888
601 6010 ext. 1 to setup a time to discuss this.

Q: Is single sign on supported in Cognos Analytics 11.1.1? If so, are the
steps same as 10.x?
A: SSO is supported in CA 11.1 but has changed since 10.X. Please
contact us at 888 601 6010 ext. 1 if you need help configuring SSO.
Q: Does the current CAFE work with Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: We believe it should, but we have not tested it.
Q: Is there a script available for Apache on Linux configuration similar
to IIS?
A: There are Apache sample files in the Cognos installation directory
on Linux.
Q: Can we customize the entire home screen in Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: Yes, welcome screens and extensions can be configured as they were in
Cognos 11.0.

Q: We’d like to do a distributed install; do we still need to edit the
configuration? The auto install never got the setting correct, i.e. 100
ports between 9300 and the new confusing config group setting.
A: The configuration is never 100% complete when using the expand
and config group settings. We always review and make sure ports and
server names are correct.
Q: Is it better to use physical servers or are virtual server installations
ok with Cognos Analytic 11.1.1?
A: Physical is always faster, but virtual provides many benefits. Please
contact us at 888 601 6010 ext. 1 if you would like to have a more
detailed discussion.

Q: Have any features been deprecated in Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?

Q: Please explain the difference between Cognos Analytics 11.0.13
(long-term support) and 11.1.1 (the latest release).
A: 11.0.13 is the final release of the major build of Cognos 11.0. All
new features such as Discovery and the enhancements to reporting
and dashboarding require an upgrade to 11.1.1.
Q: Do you know whether Metric Server is coming back to Cognos
Analytics?
A: This tool was depreciated and is not coming back based on what we
have heard.
Q: With Cognos Analytics 11.1.1, is there a way to assign the
permissions? The properties are blank for a package.
A: Package properties should be available to customization. Please
contact us at 888 601 6010 ext. 1 if you need help with this.

Q: I see SDK with Cognos Analytics 11.0.10 on the IBM download site,
but I don't see sdk_win64_11.1.1. Do you have a recommendation?
A: We do not have SDK information at this time.
Q: Is there a new event manger with at least the same functionality in
Cognos Analytics 11.1.1? We can’t upgrade without it.
A: Are you referring to Event Studio? If so, this tool is still a legacy
tool, but we heard a new version with a C11 UI is being reviewed.
Q: Is there a deprecation date for the studio tools such as PowerPlay?
Q: Can we download 11.1.1 and install just for testing purposes? Does
it require licenses?
A: Cognos downloads require an IBM account. You can request a cloud
demo from IBM. We are not sure if this is available for on-premise.

Q: Do you have any suggestions to successfully migrate content from
Cognos Analytics 10.2.1 to 11.1.1?
A: There are many things to consider and plan for when moving from
Cognos 10 to 11. Please contact us at 888 601 6010 ext. 1 for help
with this topic.
Q: Is bursting supported in Cognos Analytics 11.1?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you know when Cognos Analytics 11.1.2 will be available?
A: We expect it in Q1 2019.
Q: I understand Motio CI is integrated with Cognos Analytics 11.1.1? Is
this combined in the license?
A: Motio products are now free for 30 days to IBM Cognos customers
to assist with upgrades and testing.

Q: Which tool is better for upgrading and testing, Motio CI or PI Pro?
A: Motio CI will provide testing and migration features that can make
your upgrade project easier. PI is more of an admin tool that can
provide batch capabilities to save time and provide capabilities
missing out of the box. We recommend both for a Cognos 11 upgrade.
Q: There's a known issue of "BISecurityFilter" error in the
cognosserver.log in 11.0.x. Do you know if this has been fixed in
A: We are not aware of this issue. Please contact us at 888 601 6010
ext. 1 if you need any assistance.
Q: Can I install Cognos Analytics 11.1.1 on the same server where
10.2.2 is installed but in a different folder? Do I need to change
defaults ports? Or is it better to install it on a completely different
server?
A: Yes, you will need a new directory and ports. A new server is
always preferred if possible but existing servers are not a problem.

Q: Do we need to buy enough PVUs to cover the number of cores on
our physical box? Since this is the largest portion of our Cognos costs,
can Cognos run with just named licenses and do away with the
expense of PVUs?
A: PVU will give you unlimited users but limit your hardware. If you
are using physical servers, you will need to make sure your PVU
counts match your processor type and count. You can carve out
smaller servers using VM’s, but you will need to run the ILMT tool to
make sure it is being logged. Named users is easier to use, but can
become cost restrictive when the user base gets large.
Q: Is report performance improved in Cognos Analytics 11.1.1?
A: We have not had a chance to perform any performance
comparisons in 11.1.1 yet. We will try to write a blog post in the
future on this topic.
